The Earl Teaser 1

Excerpt #1
Zenobia was at her writing desk, quill between fingers more accustomed to pen than sewing needle,    spectacles perched on the bridge of her nose, and head bent to her latest pamphlet when, in an ominous  voice, Franklin announced, “The Earl of Egremoor.”

Twitching a blank sheet over her work, she arose.

There in her parlor doorway he stood, dwarfing her footman. Color from the brisk day without dusted his cheekbones, but otherwise he was exactly as he had been in Edinburgh months earlier: elegant, understated, and utterly perfect. From his cravat carved of Italian marble to his boots that shone like the blade of a sword, there was no hue that jarred or angle that displeased. Motionless and severe and entirely focused on her, he was a strong, magnificent creature of impeccable noble blood surveying her like a hawk hunting from far above and judging her paltry prey.

An unnerving silence stretched across the room. That he did not speak at once buoyed her courage; he must be at least as unhappy as she with this meeting.

“You needn’t have come,” she finally said. “I would have been content with a letter from your secretary.”

It could not be a smile causing the slight shadow about his mouth. This man did not smile. He bowed gorgeously, however, without excess or flourish but with glorious control. The hat and riding crop still in his grasp were props to reveal the sinews and long fingers of his hands, and they made it clear that he did not intend a lengthy call.

“Good day, my lady.” His voice was as smooth and deep as it had been in Scotland in the spring when he had barely spoken to her despite their attendance at the same wedding. “I trust you are well?”

“Oh, please,” she said crisply. “You don’t care if I am well or not. And I don’t care for empty social conventions, so let us dispense with small talk. I have heard about your father’s death and I am very sorry. You have my sincere sympathy.”

“Do I?” He moved into the parlor and she had the most disturbing impulse to seize a fireplace poker and brandish it. But he halted in the middle of the room.

“Yes, you do,” she said. “So now you may go.”

Something sharp flashed in his eyes and she felt it in her stomach like a little shock.

“I have only just arrived,” he said.

“And that is really about all of this call I can bear,” she said. “Good day, my lord.”

“Emily.”

He said it unremarkably. But the sound of her name upon his tongue did something horrible to her insides: it twisted them into a knot of very old and unwanted pain.

“I go by Zenobia,” she said before he could continue. “For several months now.”

“I see.” He advanced another step.

“Halt.” She thrust out her palm. His eyes were the most beautiful shade of blue, so dark, and so familiar. At one time she had thought that the warmest smile in the world rested in those eyes. “I have offered my sympathies and said good-day, and truly I meant both.” She was not, after all, a woman to fall to pieces over a pair of dark eyes. “Please go.”

“I cannot yet.” His jaw was just as Clarice and Shauna rhapsodized: taut and handsome and at this moment engaged in an intriguing little dance of muscular tension. “I must say something first.”

She frowned and tried not to stare at the flexing muscle. “Say it, and then leave.”

His shoulders seemed to set even more firmly in place. “My lady,” he said in quite a fearsome voice, “will you do me the honor of becoming my bride?”

For all of his experience in cowing people he wished to cow, Colin had never actually seen the color drain from a person’s face as swiftly and entirely as it now did from Emily’s. If he needed confirmation that she had dreaded this moment, here it was in the parchment white of her cheeks and brow. Even her lips paled—admirable lips, pink and shapely and formed to suggest laughter rather than the astonishment that parted them now. Her eyes widened too, brilliant emerald behind lenses of gold-rimmed spectacles. Her chin was a pixie’s, not soft and rounded but slightly sharp, and her features fine. Her hair had not changed in twenty years, except that now the pale wisps were confined in a simple queue rather than tangled with pine needles and mismatched ribbons. Dressed soberly in muted blue, she was the portrait of a reclusive maiden and clearly astonished, and he had never so powerfully wanted an interview to end quickly.

“You have got to be jesting,” she said into the thick silence.

“I do not jest.”

“Well then, you have gone mad.”

“On the contrary.”

“Oh.” A delicate V darted the bridge of her nose above the gold wire. “You are required to offer for me, aren’t you? By the terms of your father’s will.”

She was intelligent and perceptive, and forthright in a manner that would embarrass most other women. She hadn’t a care for what others thought of her. She never had.

“I am,” he said because he had always been honest with her. Except once.

“You needn’t have come here. You might have written to my father at Willows Hall.”

“The will specified the manner in which I was to make the offer.”

“Did it? How loathsome of your father.”

“I am—”

He found the unprecedented need to clear his throat. “I am also required to await your response.”

“This could not be more idiotic, could it? No, I won’t marry you. Now you can leave.” She turned to her desk, then looked over her shoulder, her lashes spread wide. “You are not actually required to marry me in order to inherit Maryport Court, are you? That could not possibly be legal. The estate is entailed.”

He actually felt his spine stiffen, the vertebrae aligning in a perfect column.

“Why?” He should leave. Immediately. Before he said something he would regret. “If I were, would your answer differ?”

“Of course not.” She paused and alarm sparked in the candid emeralds. “Is it the case?”

“No.” But the requirement that he marry her in order to maintain control of extensive unentailed properties in the West Country, as well as his mother’s jewels, was. “You are correct. The estate is bound to the title.”

“That must be a relief for you,” she said, turning her back to him again and sitting before a small writing table. “I would not have wished you to be separated from all you hold dear.” She reached for a pen. “I imagine the stipulation, even as it is, could not be held up to law. You might have contested it.”

“I chose not to.” To protect the privacy of their parents’ agreement. To protect his privacy. And hers.

“Well, now your devotion to duty is satisfied.” She dipped the pen in ink. “Good day.”

A hard, hot discomfort settled between his ribs. He was unaccustomed to being dismissed. And, for all that he had not looked forward to this meeting, he had not wanted it to go quite like this.

“Good-bye, Emily,” he said to her straight shoulders and glossy hair.

She did not reply or even lift her head. He turned to the door and for the last time walked away from the girl who had once been his best—his only—friend.

Synopsis
Gabriel Delvin is three things: a problem, a liar and irresistible. Elijah Beasley’s known that for years. He knew before they slept together, and he knew when he walked away from Gabe, unwilling to put up with more lies. The problem is he keeps going back.

Elijah Beasley is three things: a cop, a fucking problem, and Gabe’s. Gabriel Delvin’s known that for as long as he can remember. It’s why they fell into bed together, and why Gabriel stayed in Green County, when all sense said to get out.

But as the underbelly of crime in Green County comes boiling to the surface, Gabe is forced to chose between the man he’s always loved, and the family who never abandoned him.

Love has never been the problem, for these two.

It just might not be enough, this time…

A Note From N:
Gabe was never a planned character. He showed up in the first chapter of Dirty Sexy Secret, and made himself at home. He dug under my skin while I wrote Dirty Stolen Forever, this mischievous background character that was begging me to tell his story. I wasnt going to. Remi was next. And I was so excited to share his story. But. Gabe was here first and patient. So here is. You can read a tiny bridge short story from Gabes POV now, and make sure to grab SWEET UGLY LIES on release day!

Excerpt
I make a cake for a man who may never show up.

That’s the thing. The bitch of it all. I’m waiting. And he fucking knows it. And I can’t make myself stop.

I texted him earlier, and got the standard response.

We need to talk.

Which I then ignored because whatever the fuck else we are, talking isn’t something Elijah Beasley and I have ever done.

I see no reason to change that now.

The simple truth of it all–the one I sure as hell won’t admit to my baby brother sitting drunk and picking at the chocolate cupcake he’s holding, or Elijah or fuck, even Hazel–is that I miss him.

I miss Eli.

He’s cooled things off between us, has hidden behind his sister and his fucking badge and I should let him.

Fuck, I know I should let him. Getting involved with Eli had only ever been a bad idea.

Doesn’t mean I’ve ever considered walking away. Doesn’t mean I don’t want him. If anything, it makes the whole fucked up mess more tempting.

Aiden is humming morose questions into my shoulder and I kinda want to shove a cupcake in his face just to shut him up. There is a knock on the door and I sit up. I hadn’t heard that ridiculous Roadrunner that Eli sometimes borrowed from Archer.

Maybe it was Colt, come to further screw over my brother.

And that was just an infuriating thought.

It’s not though. Well. It is. But if Colt is standing there with wide worried eyes and a hopeful twist to his lips, so is Eli, his face blank and his big hands shoved into his pockets. Watching silently.

I hate him for his impassive stare. For the way he never seems affected by anything.

Well, except when I’m riding him and he’s cursing and pouring filth down my ear like a fucking porn star.

I don’t even look at him as Aiden takes Colt by the wrist and leads him away, and if my baby brother pulling a Marine around like a bad puppy isn’t amusing, nothing is or ever will be.

I turn without looking at him. I need coffee.

Eli huffs a little, trailing me into the house. His fingers find my hips when he comes up behind me in the kitchen.

He’s so fucking big. Six foot and some change, with shoulders so broad they make me itch to rake my fingers over them. To dig my nails in them while I fuck him and lick a path down between them.

I roll my hips, still in his hands, into his dick and he laughs. A strangled noise that tells me I’m getting to him.

Didn’t come here for sex, Gabe,he says, his voice breathy and low against my skin. I shudder and he groans, pushing into me.

Whatdya want then?

I want you to talk to me, Gabe,he murmurs and I freeze.

Talk.

About those two days and those ice cold bastards. About being held by the twins and Hanna.

All the things I wish I could tell him and I can’t. The words stick in my throat and I shake my head. I feel his huff of annoyance and I twist in his grip. Cmon, Gigantor. Talking is overrated.I smear a little frosting from his cake on my finger and lick it clean while he watched, his eyes going dark.

You can’t avoid this forever, Gabe.

It’s been almost three weeks since I fucked him. Since before I was kidnapped and Aiden arrived in my house and Eli started treating me like spun glass.

So fuck talking. I lick my finger clean and then grab him by the shaggy long hair that is just a little ridiculous and so fucking hot I can’t stand it.

Use it to drag him down until I can kiss him and lick the taste of sugar and spice and pecans into his mouth.

And it works.

Because whatever else we are. Whatever fucked up ugly lies are between us.

This is true. This is our center.

He groans into my mouth and hitches me up, until my ass hits the counter and the cake pushes across it, smearing frosting as he fucks into mouth with long wet strokes of his tongue.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow well talk. And I’ll lie to him. But tonight.

Tonight there is only this sweet truth.

Excerpt #3
I ran through miles upon miles of trees, not even stopping to rest when the need came upon me. My legs throbbed and my feet burned. It had been so long since I’d been active like this. I went through two pairs of shoes and my leggings did nothing to protect me from bushes and other prickly plants grabbing hold and leaving stinging cuts on my flesh. My legs became shredded, and the bottoms of my feet bloodied and blistered. The sun’s rays burned my skin, and my eyes watered from the bright light. I vomited bile and whatever else had lodged in my throat. Blood covered my hand as I wiped my mouth.

The trees went on forever. The sun dipped. I wished for relief from the heat as every part of my body sweated. It never came. The stilted air slowed me down, so I rested a few minutes to refresh myself. Soon the water ran out.

The sun continued to descend and shadows formed between the trees and along the forest floor. The sounds of those hidden animals grew, and the sky became cloudier. My legs throbbed and cramped, causing me to limp and sob in pain.

I talked aloud, pretending Nonnie or Emma Marie was with me. I wouldn’t think of Nathan Alexander because then I’d think of him.

My side cramped and the shooting pains moved down my hips and stabbed deeply in my knees. I needed to sit. I slid down next to a tree and, with a deep sigh, I sat back against the rough bark and closed my eyes for a short rest.

A piercing shriek came shattered the air. My eyes snapped open, and I shivered as two bright-red dots appeared a short distance in front of me. It was too early for the animals to come out. It had to be! I squinted, trying to place the twin lights. A drop of liquid landed on my hand. It had started to rain.

Day disappeared, and night moved in. Horrible tremors overtook my body, and the rain fell in heavy drops. I began sprinting. How could the day go by so fast?

The sense of impending doom froze me in my tracks. My drenched dress clung to me as the temperature dropped and the night came alive. A sound I’d never heard before met my ears. It was a combination of a loud boom and a screech.

Fear of death pushed me to move. I wouldn’t wait for it to find and kill me. I had gotten this far after so much and wouldn’t go down without a fight. Even as the horrid animals with their glowing eyes shifted around me, I scoured for a place to hide. There was no cave to take cover in or a low hanging tree to climb in. Only seconds remained.

My sluggish steps brought me to another tree, but this one bigger than the ones I’d passed. Piles of leaves covered the high tree roots rising from under the forest floor. Resting my forehead on the bark to think, I noticed the space between the roots and the leaves were big enough for me to fit in.

A chill slashed down my spine, which could have been from either the freezing rain or the sudden realization I had been given another chance at survival.

There was another ear-splitting howl. I quickly slid under the big tree root and pulled the leaves all around me to cover my hiding place. I peeked through a small opening in the homemade wall of leaves, muddy water dripping down my face.

The storm grew worse, and the trees shook. The world looked like it was going to end. The green misty film appeared and circled around in a frenzy, covering everything within reach.

I closed my eyes and waited, my heartbeat echoing in my ears and panic claiming my body. I cried silent tears, pleading and praying to the Almighty the mist wouldn’t find his wayward bride.

******

I lay on my stomach, watching the mist rage, shaken to my very core. I had horrible cramping in my limbs and, to keep from moaning, I bit down on my hand so hard I drew blood. I made sure to lick at the broken skin so the mist couldn’t sniff me out.

The howling wind and the crying animals, along with the destruction from the storm, continued for hours. Trees broke in half from the lightning strikes. Leaves flew everywhere as I witnessed the mutilation of the weaker animals by the mist and the larger animals. The smell of oozing mud and wet, dead leaves made me sick, and a few times I couldn’t hold back my gagging. Even covering my mouth to quiet these sounds and whimpers was grueling as the mist lifted things high in the air then let them drop. Small animals screamed in agony as they were torn to pieces and devoured.

I would never be safe, in truth. Even if I found my people and hid far, far away where the mist couldn’t find me, I would be haunted until the day I died. It would follow me to the ends of the earth until I was his again.

His. I would always be his.

As the night moved along, my eyes drooped. I slept, covered in muck.

The stillness of the morning woke me. I took in a deep gasp of air but couldn’t catch my breath. My heart sped up as I let out deep hacking coughs. Through my bleary, crusted eyes, everything was calm once again. I had survived the wicked storm and the rage of the mist.

Moving out from u my hiding space, I stumbled, falling face first in the mud. I lay there sobbing.

What was the point?

I was doomed….

Somehow, I found the will to stand. I lived, at least in body if not in spirit. The Almighty must have heard my prayer. With the waterlogged bag empty, I licked the dew-covered leaves.

I was so, so thirsty.

The muddy puddles called me to drink from them, even if the water was poisoned. I had taken enough chances already, and if I fell sick and couldn’t find another place to hide for the night, being ill would be the least of my worries.

The last of the battered fruit and soggy bread settled my queasy stomach, and I started on my journey once again. I moved much slower this time. The damaged bag was thrown away to the side and quickly forgotten. My legs were stiff from the mud and my lack of movement from the night before. For once, I welcomed the pain. It made me feel alive. Pain and suffering had become my life.

The forest appeared empty except for more trees, dead leaves, and rocks on the ground. So many boulders lay scattered around. What would it feel like to lie upon those and drift to sleep? Probably a great deal of pain with the rough, jagged rocks digging in my back and cutting my tender skin to pieces.

As I limped past a shrub with many holes and no leaves, I spotted a brown bird with a small head and a flat tail fluttering. I laughed and reached out to touch it, but my foot twisted out from under me, and I tripped on the shrub. The bird flew away, and long bleeding scratches rose from my arms. I’d failed to notice the sharp thorns in the bush.

Blood dripped down to my elbows, like sweat from my brow, combined with my tears falling in rivulets on my cheeks.

The sun blazed high in the sky. How I wanted to take off my dress because of the heat. The fabric itched and chafed my body. Also, my face and the top of my head burned. Somewhere along the way, I lost my hat. Perhaps the mist found it rolling around and took it back. It no longer mattered. I hiked, one foot in front of the other, until I couldn’t any more. When I toppled to the ground again, my cheek met the forest floor and a cackle echoed in my ears.

The Bound Teaser 1

Excerpt
Staggering down the hallway, she didn’t even look up when she heard her name.

“Hmm?” she asked.

“Cyrene, there you are!”

Someone grabbed her shoulders, and she tipped her head to look up into the most beautiful face. She smiled and felt a renewed burst of energy flow through her.

“Hey,” she whispered.

“Hey,” he said, threading his fingers through hers. A shiver ran up her back. He glanced around the empty hallway and then tugged her away from the main corridors. She turned a corner, and he pressed her back into a darkened alcove. His mouth was only inches from hers.

Her exhaustion was wearing off from the excitement of being with him.

“I was really worried about you,” he breathed.

“You don’t have to worry about me,” she said, trapped in his gaze. She teetered on her tiptoes and nearly brushed their lips together. Her heart was racing ahead of her. This felt almost better than reaching for her magic. Definitely better than moving one drop of water at a time all day.

“You’re wrong.” Then, he softly dropped his mouth down on hers. His lips were tender and slow as they caressed hers. “I will always worry for your safety.”

Cyrene’s cheeks heated, and she sighed, leaning back against the hard stone of the alcove. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”

His hands pushed up through her hair and tilted her head back up to look at him. She closed her eyes and sighed. She was so tired, and just the feel of his fingers was lulling her to sleep.

“That feels good.”

His mouth found hers, and despite her exhaustion, she pushed back against his lips with more force. She refused to let the fact that she was tired get in the way of her time with him.

“Whoa,” he said, pulling back from her. He rested his forehead against hers, and she could tell he was breathing heavily. “As much as I want this, and I do, I want to make sure you’re okay. This didn’t scare you away?”

She shook her head. “This, most certainly, does not scare me.” Then, she kissed him again for good measure.

He laughed. “Good. Because I’ve been wanting to kiss you since I first met you.”

“You have not!” she insisted.

“Are you kidding? A gorgeous, feisty woman who wasn’t afraid to put me in my place the first time she met me? I mostly certainly have.”

Synopsis
“I can’t shake the feeling that somebody’s watching me.”

One second Ella Leighton’s life was normal—the next, not so much. A social media maven who made her living saving sea turtles, the decision to join a reality TV show was a good one for the cause. But for her… the adjustment wasn’t easy.

Her publicist used phrases like online personality. An overnight celebrity. Everyone explained that was why she couldn’t shake the feeling. But none of their excuses could explain the letters. The pictures. And then her stalker crossed the line, triggering the demand for security.

Bishop O’Kane didn’t expect to come face-to-face with his ex-girlfriend when Titan sent him on bodyguard duty. The woman he once loved, the same one he walked away from years ago, was now his responsibility. Opposites in every way, they couldn’t be more different, but maybe they had never needed each other more.

With the FBI falling short in their investigation, the Titan team must rally around the woman with millions of followers, protecting her from her own as Bishop and Ella forge a path of second chances and forgiveness, unburying the past in order to survive.

 —————————————————————————-

Bishop's Queen Teaser 1

 —————————————————————————-

Excerpt
Ella watched her past walk into the room, and time froze. All of a sudden, she was just a college kid who could stare into those green eyes and feel safe. Too much time had passed, but in a breath of a second, she recalled what it had felt like to run her fingers along the scruff of his jaw. She remembered how he would rub her bare back, walking his fingers up and down her spine until she drifted to sleep in the pillow of his chest, their naked legs tangled.

They had history heavy enough to make a moonless night moan. Their baggage was deep and devastating. Pain had forced them apart. She had agonizingly ignored the tears in his words and in her heart, until she never saw him again.

Her chest ached for one quick second as he leveled her with the same shocked stare. The glance hit so fast and so hard, slamming so deep and true, that she couldn’t breathe. Her mouth fell open, but words abandoned their purpose and wouldn’t form.

Bishop O’Kane stood large and broad. Life looked as though it had been as good to him as it had been hard. He’d roughened, hardened. But those eyes, the poignant greenness, were a well to his soul, counteracting the attitude that rolled off him.

He was the same type as the Titan men who’d swept into Tara’s office— machine-like, mountain-like, with muscles made of boulders, and a corded neck. Long ago, Ella had touched and kissed those same spots, never noticing even the tendons that demanded her attention now.

Everything was noticeable as he stood in front of her, stunned— the veins on his arms; the way he hulked.

“Eloise?” Boots planted to the bathroom floor, Bishop stood his ground, showing a flash of uncertainty as though he needed permission to be in the ladies’ room.

“Bishop.” Was he as confused about the situation as she was about him? Likely so. Because the last time he’d seen her, she’d simply been a kid.

She’d been a kid who hadn’t dealt with trauma and loss well, who had panicked, who had hurt him. Because when they’d ended— no, they’d never ended. They had simply stopped. Ella had walked away because she was too broken-heartened, unable to deal with life. She just couldn’t…

He snapped out of his trance before she did and stepped forward in a way that smacked of menace and anger. “Who the hell is Ella Leighton?”

Synopsis
Junior year is supposed to be tough. Exams, term papers, homework, college tours, and participation in extra-curricular activities can all add up to non-stop stress. But Melinda Banner has goals to achieve and dreams to make real. This year, she’ll be unstoppable. But even over achievers need a break.

While walking in the woods to take a break from the stress of it all, Melinda meets a boy named Connor. After a few more run-ins, the two settle into an uneasy friendship, if you can even call it that.

But Connor’s closed and mysterious. Whenever Melinda asks too many questions, he suddenly has to go or is no longer interested in talking. When they’re together, she’s torn between wanting him to open up and running away as fast as she can. Still she can’t seem to shake her budding interest in him.

Connor has his own way of looking at the world, and his views often conflict with Melinda’s practical nature. Can you like someone and loathe them at the same time? Is he even worth the emotional tug on her heartstrings or distraction from all things Junior year?

And, as if she needs another project right now, Melinda starts to obsess over the abandoned estate she passes on the way to school each day. Between Connor and the old estate, Melinda’s beginning to think she’s taking on too much.

But Melinda’s smart. She finds a way to indulge her interest in the estate and fulfill her obligations. She will uncover the truth behind the aging edifice for an epic article in the school newspaper.

But when her investigation reveals a connection between Connor and a tragedy long-since forgotten, Melinda has a choice: put off her junior year achievements to save a local landmark and a boy who constantly pushes her away or put them both out of her mind for good and focus on making the grade.

Excerpt #2
Late-summer humidity beads on my skin as last remnants of daylight dissipate, giving way to a bright silver moon. I drink in the scent of wildflowers along with the hum of voices mixing with a choir of cicadas in the woods behind me. When I turn to continue on, I sense a swift movement in the overgrown brush to my left. A branch snaps.

“Who’s there?” My heart ricochets around my chest. I tense my legs, prepped to run at the first sign of danger while my eyes dart along the bottom of the thicket, hoping to find a small animal. Very small. Preferably not a skunk, though.

Another snap, followed by footsteps.

“Just me,” says a male voice. Someone about my size steps out from behind a wide oak tree, hands raised. I give him the once-over, covertly searching for weapons. Dark hair, faded jeans, ratty gray T-shirt, and lace-up combat-style boots. He takes a step forward. We exchange suspicious glances.

“Thinking about calling the cops?” he asks in a low voice.

“Why? Are you a criminal?”

With a shrug, he turns his attention toward the backyard party. “Huh. Another big bash at the Martins. They hire a ten-piece band just for cocktails.”

I scoff. “Why not hook up an iPod and some speakers?”

A smile appears on his moonlit face. “Wireless speakers don’t have enough juice for a yard that size. Plus, nothing’s better than live music when you’re schmoozing with the rich and famous. Do you come here often?” He grimaces. “Man, that sounded cheesy.”

Admittedly, this is an odd time and place for pickup lines. “Actually, I’m a first-time offender. I’m the new kid on this enormous block, which is more like a small city. My mother married Brian Welsh.”

His expression blanks. “Oh.”

“I live about four houses down.” I point in the general direction. Then I second-guess myself. Should I have given this random guy in the woods so much information? He looks about my age, but all sorts of scary. And from the smell of him, he could use a long, hot shower.

He sticks out his hand. “Welcome to the neighborhood. I’m Connor.”

“Mel.” I keep my hands at my sides.

His arm remains extended. “Nice to meet you.” Our eyes meet and hold. Against my better judgement, I offer my hand, allowing his warm fingers to wrap around mine. A crash of drums, followed by laughter, directs our attention back to the party.

Synopsis
A girl desperately tries to avoid the boy she was voted most likely to marry by her senior classmates. To prove senior superlative votes are meaningless, she and her best friend create their own list of awesome high school achievements to be completed by graduation.

It’s the final semester of senior year, and everyone at Harmony High can’t wait to find out the results of the Senior Superlative votes! But the balloon bursts in Sadie’s face when she discovers she’s been voted “Most Likely to Get Married” to Andy – a boy she’s never dated or ever thought of as a potential boyfriend. Completely and utter mortification sets in.

To prove high school means something more than a Senior Superlative award, Sadie and her best friend Jana decide to create their own list of awesome non-academic achievements to be completed before graduation.

Yet, the harder Sadie works to show everyone she’s not the least bit attracted to Andy, the more appealing he becomes. Typical for the girl who can’t seem to achieve anything important, even the completion of one lousy college application.

When senioritis kicks in and the school year dwindles down to mere weeks, Sadie decides to risk her good girl reputation to prove that an Awesome Achievement means much more than any Senior Superlative vote. By the time Sadie realizes her epic screw-up, she just might have lost her chance at the prom date of her dreams.

Synopsis
In places where the sun can hide, the darkest betrayals are made.

Violet Gallucci and Kazimir Markovic have grown up in the same city, but on opposite sides of the game they call life—Violet, an Italian principessa della mafia, and Kaz, a Russian Bratva heir. Lines have been drawn, and they know not to cross them.

Their paths crossed once, a long time ago, but when they meet again, the territory and rules set out by their families that have kept them separated seem to bleed away.

She’s more than her last name … He’s more than a Russian …

But secrets from the past—and the people determined to keep them hidden—have other plans for Violet and Kaz. Rival families. One city. Star-crossed lovers. They should be enemies. It could mean war. This is just the beginning …

From authors Bethany-Kris (The Chicago War) and London Miller (Volkov Bratva) comes a thrilling, sexy new series—Seasons of Betrayal. Where the Russians and Italians clash in culture, mafia … and love.

Excerpt #1
“What did she take?”

Violet clenched her teeth. “I don’t know. That’s why we were leaving.”

“Does she need a hospital?”

“She needs a bed and water,” Nicole interjected.

“You need stitches,” he said, glancing down at Nicole’s arm. “You’re bleeding all over my couch.”

Nicole just glared.

Violet held back her grin, knowing it wasn’t the time.

“We’re really sorry,” Violet said, hoping to appease to the guy so he would let them go without any more trouble. “We just wanted a good time—this club is supposed to be the hottest thing on Coney right now, and someone must have spiked our friend’s drink. We don’t want problems. We really don’t want the cops involved, so if that’s what you’re worried about, don’t be.”

The man’s lips drew into a thin, grim line as he looked the girls over. “I will make sure you all get home safe and sound.”

Violet didn’t like that idea at all. She could still hear her father in the back of her head, repeating his warnings. Keep out of Coney Island, don’t go too deep into Brooklyn, and stay the hell away from Russians.

It was more likely that whoever this guy was didn’t have anything to do with the kinds of Russians her father demanded she stay away from, but Violet knew where the lines were drawn with Alberto Gallucci. She often tested them, occasionally even jumping over them when her father wasn’t looking.

Russians were not one of them.

“We can take a cab,” Violet said. “We took one here.”

The man didn’t look all too impressed with that idea. He opened his mouth to speak, but the office door opened from behind Violet, stopping whatever he was going to say.

“Everything good, brat?”

Violet turned fast on her heel at the new voice.

And froze.

He was tall—over six feet—and built like he ran a ten-K every day. The black suit he wore hugged his frame, but the jacket was left unbuttoned, showcasing a white silk dress shirt that was pulled taut across his chest.

The man was cut.

Violet swallowed hard and met the man’s stare.

Gray eyes, like the other man’s but more intense, looked her up and down with a slow, predatory fashion. His face was framed by a strong jaw dotted with a couple days’ worth of scruff and sharp cheekbones. His lips, full enough to draw in her attention, curled up at the edges into a grin of sorts.

She thought it looked more like a smirk.

He raised a hand and ran it through his short, dark hair that was tapered at the sides but a little longer down the middle.

But it wasn’t so much the action that caught her attention, but the black ink marked on his hand. An upturned spider that looked to be crawling up under the sleeve of his suit jacket rested upon a web.

Her gaze cut back to his when he dropped his hand back to his side.

He looked familiar. She was sure that she should know him, but in her semi-drunken state, she was coming up with nothing.

The man’s smirk quickly faded into a mask of cool, calm nothingness. He looked past her to the man behind her and said one word that chilled her entirely.

“Gallucci.”

Excerpt #2
The car display lit up. Ringing filled his car. He glanced from the bumper-to-bumper traffic to the caller I.D., Miklós Kiss.

Édes apa.

His father.

“Where are you, Max?” His dad’s tone was belligerent. One deep breath. Two. Three. Then he spoke.

“I’m in my car on my way to work.”

“I can’t get the stove to work. I want toast for breakfast!”

“Dad. Turn off the oven.”

“What?”

“Make sure all the knobs line up. The word ‘off’ should be at the top of all five knobs.”

“Hold on.”

Max held on. He was out of sick days. Out of personal days. Family leave required planning. There was no way he could rush up to Santa Clarita to check on the gas stove at his father’s house. He was going to have to manage this from his car. And hope his father didn’t blow himself and the entire neighborhood to kingdom come.

“Dad? Apa!”

Clattering of plastic receiver against the wall. His dad was using the hardwired phone his parents had installed nearly forty years ago.

“It’s off. I double checked. How do I get toast? You haven’t answered that one.”

“Use the toaster I bought you two months ago,” he said before he could filter the exasperation from his voice.

“Toaster?”

“Look on the left side of the kitchen,” he said, swerving around some guy who looked like he was reading a magazine. Angelenos had taken multi-tasking to a whole new level. “Next to the drain board.”

“God damn it. Why didn’t you tell me about this before?”

Max resisted the urge to yell back. Of course he’d told his father about the toaster. He’d stood with Miklós in the kitchen reviewing the instructions. He’d watched his father make and eat that first batch of toast.

“You know now, Dad. Get the bread from the fridge. There’s butter on the counter.”

“Where’s the kenyérszalonna?”

The Hungarian bacon without a hint of bacon in it was hard to get in California’s health-obsessed markets. “That’s not an American food, Apa. I’ll look a little harder. But for now there’s butter, okay?”

“Fine. I’m hungry enough to eat this,” Miklós said before the phone clattered in the bracket.

Looking at the watch helped calm Max. He wouldn’t let his dad or the morning’s traffic snarl make a dent in his mood today because the 1960 Rolex Oyster Date was keeping time like a champ.

With no further calls from his father, he knew he’d dodged a bullet today. He could kick the can of part-time or round-the-clock care down the road a little bit further.

Maybe the watch had brought him a little bit of good luck. He’d made it in early for his shift, no problem.

“You want to switch routes?” Carl Fonseca asked when he got to MTA’s depot in Sun Valley.

Carl had one of the most coveted routes, not because it was the prettiest or safest, but because the layover at the corner of Van Nuys and Moorpark was right next to an In-n-Out Burger. It was what Carl had gotten with a ton of seniority and serious maneuvering.

“I’m good,” Max said, trying not to think about the fresh made-to-order burger he’d be missing. Instead he was focused on the extreme unlikelihood he’d see Zoe again. The sliver of a chance had him banking on the forgettable lunch options of his regular route. He’d trade the burger for the chance of a little bit of sunshine Zoe could bring to his day. He’d been caring for his parents for so long that he’d forgotten what it was like to have a little bit of a crush on someone. To be a bit eager for a glimpse of an attractive woman. “I like the chicken wraps from the place on Sunset fine,” he said in response to Carl’s perplexed look.

“Just wanted to say thanks for covering for me when my wife was sick.”

“Make me the offer again in a couple of weeks,” Max said, sure he’d be more appreciative when Zoe faded from his memory. Or when he needed to switch for an appointment with the gerontologist he’d found for his dad.

Synopsis
LIAM O’SHEA, bestseller author of the SciFi saga, Eiloe.

All I knew was pain – a childhood filled with cruelty and villains who used and abused.

Until Éolie.

I first heard her sweet, angelical voice in the dark of night, when I lay bathed in my own impending death. Seventeen years later, it’s not the nightmare she pulled me out of that haunts me, but the glimpse of Happily Ever After she revealed just before disappearing.

They said she was a figment of my boundless imagination. A wish. A dream. Until I had no choice but to believe them, cherishing my imaginary savior the only way I knew how – in fiction and lore.

But fantasy has a way of transforming reality. When I finally tire of being a citizen of the world, I take an impromptu sabbatical as a professor at a small college on the coast of Maine. And there I see her, the girl with the sea-green eyes and angelic voice.

My world turns upside down. Turns out my girl is for real, and the pull between us is anything but imaginary.

Happily Ever After has a story … and this one is mine.

Q&A

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born and raised in Montréal (Québec), the world’s second-largest French-speaking city (ever heard of Paris by any chance?;). Want to explore Montréal? http://caen-keepexploring.canada.travel/places-to-go/montreal#/?galleryItemId=200010105

Montréal is a pretty cool city. However, back in those years, I admit to existing through the winter months only to come truly alive in the summer time (La Belle Saison), running free at a lake cottage up in Les Laurentides, where I now live full time.

Happily Ever After. No longer winter challenged. Virtually hugging trees every morning.

THE FAVORITES? (Oh, no. Do I have to?)

What is your favorite book?
You mean… I only get to pick one? That’s just… so cruel.

I have lots of favorite books and authors within my favorite genre, ANYTHING ROMANCE. In an ever-growing list that took on a life of its own.

I’m not kidding. For a short and sweet sampling, visit Mes Coups de Coeur (http://www.sylvieparizeau.com/mes-coups-de-coeur-indie/) whenever you feel like it.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been a bookworm. The shy one, the quiet one. I have older siblings and by the time I came around, I fortuitously had access to an extensive library already. Books fascinated me from then on, and even though I couldn’t read any of them yet, I used to get lost in stories I made up just from the images for hours on end.

Add to it that my favorite Saturday afternoons in the winter time were spent at the public library, in a tête-à-tête with shelves upon shelves of books, and voilà. You have me in a nutshell.

And then… E-books happened.

Browsing anytime, on my time? Downloading books in just one click? Even from under my rock, on top of a mountain, in a forest, in the middle of nowhere? With a full library of my beloved neatly following me wherever I go? With minimal imprint on trees I virtually hug every morning? And here I am, revolutionized.

Anticipation? Character building.

Instant book gratification? Decadent bliss.

Les favorites en vrac :
favorite color : blue, from the lightest azure to the darkest navy, and all the nuances in between.

favorite dish:  anything pasta.

favorite time of the day: cuddling time.

favorite snack: aaaaah! Keep me far away from Cheetos. Bad Sylvie.

favorite keyboard keys: Ctrl,S.

favorite flowers: wild myosotis,  lavender, echinacea, wild daisies.

favorite day of the week: Saturday.

favorite plants: ferns, moss.

favorite mood: happy.

favorite people: romance book readers.

WHAT IS YOUR WRITING RITUAL LIKE?
I have a writing/reading nook upstairs with a window seat, and a view of the forest. A view I’m more than happy to share en direct from my winter wonderland on my home page.

It’s a quiet room. A peaceful room. When I step into that room, I step into an alternate universe, and it puts me in the frame of mind needed. I let the surrounding beauty infuse me.

Sometimes, depending on my mood, I plug in headset earphones to immerse myself in background music. Mostly without lyrics, otherwise, I get lost into the story unfolding within the song.

Beyond that, I don’t require much else to keep me going for hours on end. I get by with only a shot of organic guarana caffeine once in a while (okay, maybe more than once in a while. I’ll never tell.).

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Life. Love. Laughter.

The written words.

Art, in its many forms.

Man’s creative genius.

The Earth’s abundant, natural wonders.

Breathing in the moment, letting it seep, blending into it.

Synopsis
Tempting Tristan is a stand-alone M/M romance featuring two sexy, lovable alpha heroes.

TRISTAN AND ALEX

Fresh off the heels of yet another bad relationship, Tristan Brewer is taking a break from men to try to figure out where he keeps going wrong. He knows his biggest fault—he leads with his heart, not his head—and that’s never going to change. But after several introspective weeks, he’s beginning to get a handle on things. That is, until badass heartthrob Alex Wells walks into his bar…

Alex has spent eight years in the army, months in a hospital bed, and far too long hiding his sexual identity. He’s guilt-ridden, damaged, pissed off, and up for a Silver Star for the incident that nearly cost him his life—and kept him from his grandmother’s funeral. But all he wants to do is live the life he’s always dreamed of and forget his stint with the institution that allows but doesn’t necessarily accept.

The chemistry between Tristan and Alex ignites from the moment they meet, and the more time they spend together, the hotter the flames burn. But the closer they become, the more Alex’s walls go up, and when the two walk onto a military base, Tristan finds out Alex’s physical scars aren’t the ones that run the deepest.

Excerpt
We step forward at the same time, and he presses his rough hand to my cheek. “I don’t know what kind of pussies you went out with before, but I wanted to fucking claim you in there.”

He slides a hand around my waist, tugging our bodies together. I feel every hard inch of him, and he’s got me so hot I’m sure we’re going to combust.

“I’ve spent almost nine years hiding who I am, and I’m not willing to do it anymore,” he says through clenched teeth. “Not here, where I came to start over. Where I came to live on my terms without the goddamn military hanging over my head.”

“I have no interest in hiding,” I assure him.

“You’re sure? Because I really want to kiss you right now, and I don’t care who sees us.”

I respond by pulling his mouth to mine, my break from men long forgotten. We stumble backward, crashing into the railing, fighting for dominance as we did yesterday morning. The passion between us has a life of its own. My hands claw over his ass, up his back. I want to strip him down and take all of him. I want to discover why he’s so rough and learn what about those shadows that are lurking behind his gorgeous eyes. Instead I take, and give, and take more of the angry kisses. When we finally tear our mouths apart, my body’s still reeling, and we both curse under our breaths.

“Okay?” he pants out.

I nod, knowing if I open my mouth, I want to fuck you, is going to come out.

Excerpt #3
So his little show was just to press my buttons? Press his buttons? Fine, I’d play along with that game and press all the buttons.

Slow and deliberate, I turned my head. My cheeks burned with what I was about to do. I swallowed the sudden lump of nervous giggles and daring. I shrugged my shoulders once. My dress slid over my arms, my breasts, until it caught on my hips. I gave the fabric a little push over my curves, and it fell into a pool of silk and sequins at my feet.

I stepped over the fabric, and gave Sterling an eyeful of my delicate panties and rump. This moment made it worth every bit of chafing suffered on account of the thong’s sequins and beads. I paused so Sterling could get a second helping, then sauntered into the bathroom for my shower.

I had to suppress giggles. Naughty giggles, nervous giggles, giggles that half expected him to storm in after me and put his hands all over the flesh that I had just paraded before him. I removed my bra and panties, tossed them outside the shower and waited to see what happened.

Buttons pushed. With both hands.

Sterling appeared about two minutes after I had taken up residence under the delightfully hot water. The giggles had passed, and the burst of maidenly nerves as well. Now I was just smug. So smug. So the brave Alpha hadn’t known what to do, hmm? He thought he got to call all the shots, hmm?

He started it, now it was his move.

The steam carried his scent. He smelled of desire, frustration, the musk of competitive spirit and rankled anger. I closed my eyes, inhaled deeply and took fierce pleasure in having provoked him so completely. The consequences were going to be hard to complain about.

“I can smell your smugness,” his tone was rough.

I laughed. “Oh, can you now, dear Alpha?”

His shadow moved outside the steamy glass. I turned my head just as he yanked open the shower door. He was not naked, but in his robe. His eyes remained rooted above my neckline, and his neck muscles ticked as they struggled to keep his gaze above my shoulders.

I smirked and taunted him, “You can look.”

He made a noise somewhere between laughter, frustration, and a curse. Then he slammed the door. It throbbed on its hinges.

“Am I too intimidating, Alpha?” I called over the water, then collapsed into snickers.

“You are taking too long,” he informed me with raw dignity. “I will shower in the guest room.”

“How cold a shower will it be, dear Alpha?!”

He slammed the bathroom door behind him.

They must battle for Pandora’s daughter’s heart, a girl lost to the human world and unaware of her hidden heritage. For four hundred years Marcus and Nicolas have only been allowed to touch the edge of their soul mate’s dreams, but the time of the prophecy has come.

For Samantha, life has been nothing more than a series of misfortunes and heartbreaks. For years, she has kept her heart locked away, but change is rolling in like a tidal wave. She is now forced to discern the thin line between love and lie, myth and reality, and it would seem that time is running out …

Sam finished putting on what little make-up she wore and walked to her first period class, calculus. Taking her seat, someone’s stare began burning a hole in the back of her head. She turned to her left about ninety degrees to meet eyes with Kenneth Bradley. Ken, as most of his friends called him, was basketball-tall and two hundred pounds of lean muscle. He had sandy brown hair, light brown eyes and a deep, strong voice. A voice that Sam had heard him use at both ends of the spectrum when watching him instruct the basketball team while in practice and on the courts for a game. He was a work of art on the courts. I’ve never seen anything more graceful and powerful than his layups, or his dunks, or his … Sam faded out, still staring.

Ken waved a hand back and forth in front of her.

“Good job out there this morning, Business.” Ken smiled. “If for some ungodly reason we don’t see your name posted, then Coach Miller’s an idiot. However, that would mean you could play for the guys’ team, which would allow you the opportunity to ride the bus with us for away games.” His smile deepened and turned into something very promising.

She was used to boys and girls alike wanting to push her into the popular cliques, to get her to come and join the party or go out on a date, but she wasn’t interested. It was kind of odd, in a depressing way. Sure, there was the hormonal side to her, but acting on that would inevitably lead to heartbreak.

Sorry, not today, Sam thought.

“Thanks for the offer, Ken, but I think I’m stuck hoping to make the girls’ team. Last time I checked my anatomy deemed it so.” Sam smiled.

Why not play the game? If you can’t get hurt because you’re unwilling to stick around for overtime, then why not at least enjoy the popcorn and soda up until that point? Sam thought. Life should have some pleasure to it.

“Can’t deny that. I’d love to take you out, if you’d only give me the chance.” Ken lifted an eyebrow inquisitively. “You’ve put up a wall that I’ve been trying to tear down for a year. Maybe I need a bulldozer. Or have you not noticed, Samantha?”

“It’s Sam, not Samantha.” She winked back at him. “No one denies you, right, Ken? I mean, you’re king of the school. I guess you must think of me as the ice princess your charms can’t seem to melt?”

“I wouldn’t say—” Ken started to respond, but was interrupted.

“Samantha, Kenneth, is there something you’d like to share with the class?” Mr. McGreer asked, bringing the class’s full attention to their private conversation. Sam whipped her head around, blood rushing to her cheeks for the second time that day.

“No, sir, Mr. McGreer, sorry for the interruption,” Sam apologized.

“Mr. Bradley, anything to add?” Mr. McGreer said, looking down at Ken. Everyone knew he didn’t think too highly of Ken, but word on the street was that most of the teachers didn’t. Ken had looks, status and lots of money. It didn’t help that he didn’t appear to be intimidated by anyone, especially not the faculty.

“No, Mr. McGreer,” Ken retorted. “I was just trying to get my date on, but I’ll hit Sam up after your class. I apologize for the interruption.”

Sam ducked her head as a few people snickered at Ken’s bluntness. Even Mr. McGreer seemed taken aback by the comment.

“Well, I think that there is a place and time for you to, as you so eloquently put it, ‘get your date on’ and this isn’t it. Pay attention, both of you, or I’ll see you after school for detention.”

Tru Blue Teaser 3

 —————————————————————————-

Excerpt
TRUMAN GRITT LOCKED the door to Whiskey Automotive and stepped into the stormy September night. Sheets of rain blurred his vision, instantly drenching his jeans and T-shirt. A slow smile crept across his face as he tipped his chin up, soaking in the shower of freedom. He made his way around the dark building and climbed the wooden stairs to the deck outside his apartment. He could have used the interior door, but after being behind bars for six long years, Truman took advantage of the small pleasures he’d missed out on, like determining his own schedule, deciding when to eat and drink, and standing in the f**king rain if he wanted to. He leaned on the rough wooden railing, ignoring the splinters of wood piercing his tattooed forearms, squinted against the wetness, and scanned the cars in the junkyard they used for parts—and he used to rid himself of frustrations. He rested his leather boot on the metal box where he kept his painting supplies. Truman didn’t have much—his old extended-cab truck, which his friend Bear Whiskey had held on to for him while he was in prison, this apartment, and a solid job, both of which were compliments of the Whiskey family. The only family he had anymore.

Emotions he didn’t want to deal with burned in his gut, causing his chest to constrict. He turned to go inside, hoping to outrun thoughts of his own f**ked-up family, whom he’d tried—and failed—to save. His cell phone rang with his brother’s ringtone, “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars.

“F**k,” he muttered, debating letting the call go to voicemail, but six months of silence from his brother was a long time. Rain pelleted his back as he pressed his palm to the door to steady himself. The ringing stopped, and he blew out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d trapped inside. The phone rang again, and he froze.

He’d just freed himself from the dredges of hell that he’d been thrown into in an effort to save his brother. He didn’t need to get wrapped up in whatever mess the drug-addicted fool had gotten himself into. The call went to voicemail, and Truman eyed the metal box containing his painting supplies. Breathing like he’d been in a fight, he wished he could paint the frustration out of his head. When the phone rang for the third time in as many minutes, the third time since he was released from prison six months ago, he reluctantly answered.

“Quincy.” He hated the way his brother’s name came out sounding like the enemy. Quincy had been just a kid when Truman went to prison. Heavy breathing filled the airwaves. The hairs on Truman’s forearms and neck stood on end. He knew fear when he heard it. He could practically taste it as he ground his teeth together.

“I need you,” his brother’s tortured voice implored.

Need me? Truman had hunted down his brother after he was released from prison, and when he’d finally found him, Quincy was so high on crack he was nearly incoherent—but it didn’t take much for f**k off to come through loud and clear. What Quincy needed was rehab, but Truman knew from his tone that wasn’t the point of the call.

Before he could respond, his brother croaked out, “It’s Mom. She’s really bad.”

Excerpt – Chapter 2
Skye changed direction and instead of heading south for the warm waters of the gulf, she flew northwest. Her mind tried to make sense of what just happened. Her anger for Everett had turned into fear of what was to come. Everett would have the answers. But she might not like the answers he gave.

She certainly didn’t like the consequences of his last answer. To never love again. That was the cost of removing the seal to Sid. She gladly gave it up. But now. Now something was missing and she ached to love again.

After an hour she flew over Yellowstone and marveled at the fact that she wasn’t dead. That meant Sid and Aspen were still alive as well. Perhaps Aspen had become queen. Skye hoped so. She liked her. Plus, if the prophecy was fulfilled, Sid would be the right leader for the job.

She flew over Sid’s house and faltered for a second. Rowan was asleep in there. Sweet Rowan. He’d become her best friend. Her heart tightened at the thought of never seeing him again. It was strange how the ache she often felt disappeared when she was around him. He made her feel human.

She didn’t know what would happen when she found Everett. But if she was a king and the prophecy was being fulfilled, she’d be too caught up in the dragon wars to even think about her human friends. She supposed it couldn’t hurt to stop and say goodbye. She owed him that. After all, he’d been there for her when no one else had been.

She dove for the house before she talked herself out of it. She wanted to feel human again, if only for a minute.
