Synopsis
Owen Shaw and his “brothers” lost everything, their entire existence erased. Science had robbed he and all the Lost Boys of their memories and their past, but not their future. Hunted by every intelligence agency in the world, they are focused on two goals: find a cure for what was done to them and ensure that the technology that ruined their lives doesn’t get out into the world. Rebecca Walsh might be the key to achieving both. Owen has been studying her closely, living in her building, and he cannot resolve how such a beautiful, giving woman could have helped design the evil process that destroyed his past.

Dr. Rebecca Walsh has dedicated her life to researching the secrets of the mind. Her atmospheric rise in her field was fueled by the horror of watching her mother’s agonizing journey into madness at the hands of a disease with no cure. She vowed to never rest until she finds it. But obsession takes a heavy toll, and when Owen moves into her building she realizes how much of her life she has missed out on. Owen opens her eyes to a whole new world, filled with joy, laughter, and possibly love.

Owen and Rebecca grow closer, unraveling more about each other and the mysteries surrounding her connection to Hope McDonald. As the sinister forces working against the Lost Boys descend on Toronto, secrets long buried are uncovered that could shatter the bonds holding the Lost Boys together and cost Rebecca her life.

“You know helping her, it won’t change what you did,” he says, his voice softening.

Lifting my chin, I nod. “I know it won’t. But maybe God will give me a couple points for trying to be a better fucking human.”

“The fact that you want in her panties has no bearing on your decision either?” he asks, lifting a brow.

Chuckling, I punch him lightly in the arm. “It don’t hurt,” I shrug. “Learned a lot about opportunities and feelings when I was locked up. I got a feeling about her the second I laid eyes on her, and it wasn’t only in my dick. She needs me, Wyatt. I think that maybe, I need her, need both of them, too,” I shrug.

He shakes his head. “Don’t fuck her over. She’s a good kid in a fucked up situation, but a good kid nonetheless.”

“She don’t look like a kid where I’m sittin’,” I wink.

“You’re such a fucking horny bastard.”

Leveling him with a gaze, I lift my eyebrow. “Locked up for five-years with nothin’ but my hand. You would be horny as fuck too, but that’s not the sole reason I’m doing this. She really does need me. Even if I don’t end up in bed with her, I’m willing to help her.”

Slate Solis went from being a guy that people went to in times of need to an ex-con that people crossed the street to avoid being too close to.

He knows he’s done wrong, but out of all of his sins, only one really bothers him—coveting thy neighbor’s wife.

Harleigh Belle—the cute little lady that never gives him a second glance.

After seeing her for the first time while he was in prison, she’s stayed on his mind for three long years. Each time she comes in to visit with her friend on family day, he can’t help but stare.

Then the day comes that he’s set free, and he’s almost disappointed that he’ll never see her again.

Except fate has different plans.

He hasn’t been back in his house for more than three hours when he sees her.

Harleigh Belle in all her glory…oh, and her husband that is everything Slate isn’t.

He tells himself that her being fifty feet away from him, all day every day, is a complete coincidence. One that he shouldn’t take advantage of. The more time passes, the harder it gets to stay away. Until one day, and one very ill-timed thunderstorm, ruin everything.

Synopsis
Everyone we love, everything we know, is going away… and only an autistic boy can stop it.

Alex knows exactly how many steps it takes to get from his home to Mason Middle School. This is normal.

Alex knows the answers in AP math before his teacher does, which is also normal.

Alex knows that something bad is coming out of the big screen in his special needs class. It’s pushing images into his head, hurting him, making him forget. Alex pushes back, the screen explodes, and nothing is normal any more.

Giant screen televisions appear all over the city. The programming is addictive. People have to watch, but Alex cannot.

Sophie, the sentient machine behind all this, sees the millions and millions of eyeballs glued to her and calls it love. To Sophie, kids like Alex are defective. Defectives are to be fixed…or eliminated.

Excerpt #3
Chapter Ten: Alex

Even inside the abandoned old house, we smelled the fires. Sara and I would go out walking, early in the morning, before the Calliope Guardians started patrolling. Yesterday at 7:38 AM, I saw three firemen in the fire station on the boulevard, sitting on a red GMC 3500 EMS truck, watching a Calliope television broadcast on the wall. Sixty-one meters down the street, smoke was coming from the front windows of a little white and blue house. This was normal now.

Later that afternoon, Sara and I walked the four hundred and five steps down to the little convenience store, which was still open. We pulled down our baseball caps when we passed under the big Calliope screen on the roof, which has video surveillance in it. I felt it, probing, looking, but it mostly doesn’t bother me now, unless I get too close. Sara just walks faster. I think she’s dealing with it better than me.

“…incidents of vandalism have decreased markedly, according to reports from across the country. The President, seen here at a Rose Garden press conference, announced today that he intends to lift the state of emergency as soon as next week.”

There was no one in the store, and almost nothing on the shelves. We found two overripe apples and a squished package of bread. I wanted to leave some money, but Sara looked at me with her right eyebrow raised, which I knew meant I’m acting stupid or crazy. We went back to the old house. On the porch of the yellow house at the corner, a woman in a black tee-shirt was sitting on one of the raggedy easy chairs, looking at a picture book, then looking up. She saw us walk by, but didn’t say anything. Like me and like everyone, she was probably trying to remember who she was, who she used to be. This was also normal now.

When it got dark, Sara lit candles and the one lantern we have, because the electricity goes off a lot. We each ate one apple and I had two slices of bread. Then Sara locked the doors and fell asleep on the couch. I laid down on the cot. I dreamt that I was flying, and I heard a woman’s voice that sounded like my mom. “It’s time to come home.”

The next morning, there was an engine noise outside on the street, and I peeled back the newspapers that covered the front window to look. A white van with the Calliope logo moved slowly down the block. I woke Sara and we went out the back door and down the alley.

We walked on the dirt middle section of the boulevard where the trolley tracks used to be. It’s twelve blocks, which is three thousand four hundred sixty-seven steps away from the house. The red brick library, which I had been to a few times, was closed. The broken glass front doors had plywood on them, where someone had spray-painted, “Help Us.” Above the doors was a giant Calliope video screen, ten meters tall, eighteen meters wide. I pulled down my blue baseball cap with the New York Yankees logo and looked down at the cracked sidewalk; Sophie was looking for me.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the giant screen.

“The Melonian army is four parsecs away, and traveling at twice light.”

“That doesn’t give us much time, Jim. We’ve got to move the fleet now.”

Fifteen people stared up, gape-jawed, watching. When I looked at it, the images dissolved into colored lines and shapes coming at me, washing over me, trying to make me forget. I looked away.

A gray-haired man, wrapped in a dirty green blanket, walked toward us, playing a sad tune on a soprano saxophone hanging from a colored strap around his neck. A pony-tailed man turned away from the screen and frowned. He put his finger to his lips and made a shushing sound. The old man ignored him, walking closer. Other people turned away from their dreams to look.

“Quiet!” someone said. The old man stopped playing, picked up a piece of asphalt, and hurled it at the screen. The asphalt bounced off, leaving a square of dark black pixels in a bottom corner of the screen. People yelled, dodging the rock as it fell to the ground. The old man stood in front of the screen and began to play his sad tune.

The movie stopped and a card appeared on the screen: ATTENTION. A woman’s voice said: “Attention. Public safety violation. Public safety violation. Under Emergency Order 56, you are required to stay where you are. Remain calm.”

We walked away.

A white van screeched to a stop at the curb. Two men wearing black jump suits got out, grabbed the old man, took the saxophone from him, and threw it in the street. They tossed him in the back. The van drove off. Another white van pulled up and two men stepped out of it, holding shiny black devices with antennas. They were looking for me and Sara.

We ran.

I am trying to remember who I am. I am Alex. I am Alex.

Excerpt #1
The door to the bathroom opened a crack. Ava poked her head out, fingers curled tight around the door. “Sorry. Could you pass me a towel, please?”

Dominic started. So much for getting his overactive imagination under control. Her wet hair was dripping water onto the floor and her naked shoulder taunted him like a fourteen-year-old boy.

“Of course.” He went over to Ava’s bag and pulled out a towel. He grabbed his while he was at it, and fresh boxers and a t-shirt to sleep in.

He held the towel out so she could take it. “Here you go.”

She let go of the door to grab the towel but the damn thing started to swing open. Dominic stuck his foot to stop it.

God. Even the idea of seeing her naked was stirring his blood. Dammit. “If you’re finished in there, how about you get dried and dressed out here while I grab a shower?”

“Good idea. Just give me a second.” She came out wrapped in a towel that hit mid-thigh. Her shoulders were bare. Perfect collarbones emphasized a long, slender neck and pointed chin. She was brushing her wet hair completely unaware that she looked absolutely stunning. “It’s all yours.”

If only.

Dominic hated himself for being turned on by this woman, this junior agent. But there was nothing he could do about it right now except not get involved. They were stuck with each other.

He went inside the tiny bathroom, stripped off and turned on the cold water before stepping under the freezing spray. Anything to get his body under control and his blood cooled.

Synopsis
The Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs series continues with a couple fighting to keep what they thought they had and gain what they didn’t know they needed.

Roxie Montgomery met her soul mate when she least expected it. When he asked her to marry her, she thought her happily ever after was only just beginning. Then, she found that walking into the sunset was much harder than her favorite books made it out to be. After a crushing loss, she feels as though she doesn’t know her husband anymore, or rather…she doesn’t know herself.

Carter Marshall has loved Roxie since the first time he saw her. But as the days pass between them, so does the distance. He doesn’t know how to show her that he’s all in, and honestly doesn’t know if she’s in at all. When an accident changes everything, they’ll have to decide if what they have can be salvaged, or if starting over is the answer. Or even possible.

Without fighting, without a true new beginning, sometimes, the remnants of what was lost can leave anyone jagged, shells of what they were before. It will take more than the idea of forever for Roxie and Carter to find themselves again, but as the Montgomerys know, nothing worth fighting for is easy..

 —————————————————————————-

 —————————————————————————-

Excerpt
They still had a couple of hours before bed, but neither of them commented on that. They were just going to go their separate ways, a prelude to what would happen as soon as Carter was completely healed.

Roxie gave him a tight nod and then went upstairs. He did his best not to look at her. Because when he looked at her, he ached.

Because he missed his wife. He missed her smile, he missed everything about her.

He missed the way she would laugh at something inane and then bury her face in her hands because she knew that it was silly to laugh at it.

He missed her touch, her taste. Yeah, he missed sex, but it wasn’t like they’d had sex recently. They used to have their hands on each other all the time.

And then she’d stopped talking.

She’d stopped smiling.

And he couldn’t figure out how to make her do either of them again. He’d tried, but it hadn’t worked.

And then, eventually, he’d stopped trying altogether.

And she hadn’t done anything about it.

So, this was his fault. Because he had tried, and he’d failed. It would always be his fault.

Always.

Synopsis
He’s hoping to bury the past. She’s ready to settle the score.

The Sterling Ranch’s season opening isn’t going so smoothly. With the ranch’s lodge full of guests and a Montana blizzard threatening, Will Sterling needs help—and he needs it fast. So when his childhood friend Poppy Carmichael agrees to lend a hand, he’s grateful for a second chance…and more enticed by the woman she’s become than he cares to admit.

For Poppy, it was supposed to be a retreat full of horse rides and hoedowns—with a side of showing Will what he’s been missing all these years. But as the snow deepens outside, the guests’ suspicion and mistrust turn sinister inside, catching Will and Poppy in the crosshairs.

Weathering the storm in each other’s arms is all too easy for Will and Poppy, but will a confrontation with a killer mean their reunion is short-lived?

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author B.J. Daniels starts her Sterling’s Ranch series off with a bang in this suspenseful story of romance and revenge.

Excerpt
He groaned. “You aren’t making this any easier.” He was already short-staffed. Normally the guest ranch didn’t take guests this early in the season. Late spring and summer were the guest ranch’s busiest times, with a fall season for hunters. But a friend of their father’s had made a special request for Will to open for four days in March.

Big Jack Hanson owned a small fly-fishing vest company outside of La Quinta, California, called On the Fly. Big Jack wanted to hold a retreat for some of his employees at Sterling Montana Guest Ranch, a place from his youth. He’d been uncompromising on when.

Although anxious to get his first season running the guest ranch alone started, Will had tried to talk him out of it, reminding him what the weather could be like this time of the year in the mountains of Montana. Also that they would be short-staffed. Which meant that the guests would be making their own beds each day and taking care of the housekeeping in their cabins. Dorothea would be helping in the kitchen and making sure their guests had everything they needed from daily treats in their cabins to clean towels.

“Sounds perfect,” Big Jack had said. “Won’t hurt them a bit to do for themselves for what time we’re there.”

A charismatic, large man with red hair like a fireplug, blue eyes and a talent for hyperbole, Big Jack had offered to pay extra. “My crew needs this. I need this. You don’t have to roll out the red carpet or go to any trouble.” Spoken like a man who knew nothing about hosting guests. But Will had given in since, at one time, Big Jack had been like family. He knew his father would have wanted him to do whatever was necessary to accommodate Big Jack and his employees.

At the sound of the shuttle van arriving from the airport down in the valley, Will knew he couldn’t be choosy about a cook. His guests would be expecting dinner tonight and since neither he nor Dorothea could do more than boil water…

He called information for Poppy Carmichael’s number and was put right through. The moment she answered, he hesitated, reminding himself of why this was a bad idea on so many levels. He and Poppy had a history—and not a good one. True, it was twenty years ago, but still…

Through the front window, he saw his guests begin to pile out of the van. They were all wearing what appeared to be new matching navy winter jackets with an On the Fly logo on the back and matching stocking caps. They looked tired from the long trek from the airport up into the mountains outside of Whitefish, Montana. They also already looked hungry.

“Poppy?” He cleared his voice. “It’s Will. Will Sterling. Up at the Sterling guest ranch.”

“Will.”

The sound of her voice threw him for a moment. It was soft, refined, his name spoken on almost an amused breath.

He plunged on. “My cook, Buckshot Brewster, broke his leg and I’m desperate, as I have guests arriving as we speak. Is there any way—” Dorothea was shaking her head and mumbling again about bad luck and this whole retreat already being cursed.

“How long?” Poppy said on the other end of the line.

“Four days starting today, Sunday. The guests leave Wednesday afternoon. If there is any way you can fit it into your schedule…”

A soft laugh. “So you need me.” There was a small hesitation before she said, “Right away.”

“Yes! I have nine guests that have to be fed tonight. I’m sorry for such short notice. If you can swing it, I’ll pay your going rate and a bonus at the end of the four days. What do you say? Buckshot brought most of the supplies up already and my brothers just delivered the rest, so I think we have everything you’ll need to cook up here. We have our own supply of beef, bison and elk, and plenty of canned goods. We just need a…cook.”

An amused chuckle. “I see.”

I mean, Chase is just her stand-in boyfriend. Nothing could go wrong. Right?

 THE STAND-IN BOYFRIEND Teaser

Excerpt
“What’s wrong? Everything going okay with you and Jessie?”

“I don’t know where he is.” My eyes flash around the room, but he’s not in here either. Where the hell did he go? He wouldn’t just leave would he?

“I’m sure he’s around. He must have gotten stuck talking to someone.”

I shake my head. For some reason, I have a bad feeling about this, but I don’t know why. I mean, yeah, I was gone for half an hour so of course he’s not just going to stand there on his own and wait for me, but there were a lot of people in the kitchen—he could have just joined them, and he said he’d wait for me. We had a connection, didn’t we? He wouldn’t just walk away. “Have you seen him?”

Sophie shakes her head. Her eyes narrow in concern and she takes a step closer to me. Anyone else would laugh and tell me I’m being stupid, but Sophie knows me too well for that. She knows I’m getting anxious and panicky. “Should I come look for him with you?”

I shake my head, glancing behind her at Mark and Jackson, who have been joined by more of their crowd. “No, no. You’re right, he’s probably back in the kitchen by now and I just missed him.” I force a smile then back out of the room. I turn back in the direction I came from, intent on returning to the kitchen and even trying subtly to do some of those breathing exercises the child psychologist I saw in middle school told me to do when I start to get anxious. I walk past the huge spiral staircase in Aaron’s hall.

I pause, my heartbeat hammering my chest, and I don’t know what makes me do it but I step up onto the first step, and then the next, and the next, until I’m heading upstairs with my eyes locked ahead of me. I know what goes on in the upstairs bedrooms at these parties. Every Monday morning, the Grove Valley High rumor mill is in full swing talking about who hooked up with who.

But Jessie was waiting for me!

Jessie was looking at me like I was special, like he was finally seeing me differently and something was definitely happening, but that doesn’t stop the sickening feeling in my gut. Despite the fact that my heart is pounding and I can feel my hands shaking, I know I need to rule this out.

I get to the top and look down the hall just as a girl in my trig class emerges from the first bedroom on the right with a boy I don’t recognize. She smiles sheepishly as she passes me, the cocky grin on the guy’s face making it clear what they’ve been up to. I force myself to smile, ignoring the dead weight in my stomach as I take a couple of steps farther along the hallway.

I suddenly feel stupid. What the hell am I going to do now that I’m up here? I’m certainly not going to go knocking on any doors just to check if Jessie is behind one of them. The thought alone makes me blush bright red. He’s probably downstairs in a corner talking about his latest video game obsession and I’m stalking the halls of Aaron’s mansion. I almost laugh out loud at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation. I decide to try to find a bathroom now that I’m up here, hoping it’s obvious from the outside that it’s a bathroom and not a bedroom, and continue walking, assuming the bathroom will be at the end of a hallway. I take a right at the end (seriously, that’s how big Aaron’s house is—the hallway leads onto another), and that’s when I stop dead.

That’s when I feel my heart crack in two.

That’s when I find Jessie.

With Courtney. Making out against the wall.

Somehow I manage to not say a word as I watch them kissing…as I watch his hand under her top, groping at her body…as she makes these ridiculous noises like she’s in some sort of adult film, dropping her hands to his belt buckle and starting to undo it.

I feel like I’m going to throw up.

I start to back away, tears already in my eyes, and I swear, I swear Courtney looks my way for a split second and a smirk covers her face when she sees me standing here. Then Jessie reaches for the handle of the door she’s leaning up against and they both tumble into the room, slamming the door behind them.

I am so stupid. I am so, so fucking stupid. My body starts shaking and fresh tears roll down my face. How could I think tonight was going to be it? How could I be dumb enough to think Jessie might actually like me back? I swipe away at the tears, heartbroken that he’s just dismissed me after what felt like a new beginning, but at the same time angry at myself. I should have known. I should have known better than to think I might actually get what I want, and I can’t cover up the sob that escapes from my throat.

“Uh…” I jump out of my skin at the voice behind me. “Are you okay?”

I whirl around to see Chase Mitchell standing there, looking the most awkward I’ve ever seen anyone look. I turn my back to him and swipe at my face, trying to get rid of the tears, which won’t stop falling.

“Yeah,” I reply. “I’m fine.” It’d be more believable if my voice wasn’t cracking as I speak. I wait to hear his footsteps back away, sure the sight of a crying girl is enough to make him run for the hills, but instead he steps around me while I stare at my feet.

“Livy.” I shake my head frantically. I can’t look up. I can’t face anyone right now, not when it feels like I’ve just had my heart ripped in two. “Livy,” he says again softly, and something about his voice, the way there’s no mocking lilt and the concern in his tone make me look up at him. He’s standing by the door opposite the one Courtney and Jessie are in, and he pushes it open. “Come in here. It’s Aaron’s room—no one will see you in here. It’s been locked so there’s no one inside.”

I nod, because honestly what else can I do at this point? My body won’t stop shaking and I’m having no luck stopping the tears. I just need to sit down for a couple of minutes and pull myself together before I have to face the party again.

Once inside the room, I sink down onto Aaron’s bed and look down at my hands, twisting my fingers together in a desperate attempt to stop them from shaking. I can’t believe how stupid I am. I can’t believe I let Sophie convince me this time might actually be different. I’m in here feeling like my world has ended while Jessie is across the hall having sex with his ex.

“Are you okay?” Chase asks again.

I startle slightly at his voice. I wasn’t expecting him to stick around. I wish he’d disappear; I don’t want anyone seeing me like this.

I force a smile and look up, but it wobbles as fresh tears tumble down my cheeks at the memory of Courtney looking at me. She must have been at the party all along and seen me with Jessie in the kitchen. She clearly took my absence as her opportunity, and Jessie certainly didn’t look like he had any objections.

“Honestly, I’m fine. Something happened earlier at home and I was just thinking about it,” I lie.

Chase doesn’t look away from me. “I saw Stephenson go into that bedroom with Courtney,” he tells me.

And there it is. My humiliation is complete. Chase Mitchell is witnessing my meltdown after watching my best friend hook up with his ex.

I look away, swiping my hand across my face. God knows what I look like right now. My makeup is probably running everywhere. I let out a sigh and feel my shoulders sag even farther.

“He doesn’t see you, Livy.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I whisper. “I told you, I was just thinking about something that happened earlier.”

“Liv—”

“Chase, please,” I plead, another errant tear streaking down my face. “Just leave me alone, okay? I can’t deal with anyone seeing me like this.”

He doesn’t reply as I squeeze my hands and try to focus on pulling myself together, but after what feels like an eternity, I hear the door open then click shut behind him. I burst into tears all over again because not only is Jessie back with Courtney, now everyone in school will know what a pathetic loser I am.

Ordinary women like me know we shouldn’t fall for beautiful men like Travis Zehler, one of the hottest cover models in romance fiction. But, sometimes, we can’t help ourselves.

Renae has always loved reading, and in third grade, she wrote her first poem where she learned she might have a knack for this writing thing. Lara remembers sneaking her grandmother’s Harlequin novels when she was probably too young to be reading them, and since then, she knew she wanted to write her own.

When they met in college, they bonded over their love of reading and the TV show Charmed. What really spiced up their friendship was when Lara introduced Renae to romance novels. When they discovered their first vampire romance, they knew there would always be a special place in their hearts for paranormal romance. Synopsis
In the first of a Montgomery Ink spin-off series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, a broken man uncovers the truth of what it means to take a second chance with the most unexpected woman…

Graham Gallagher has seen it all. And when tragedy struck, lost it all. He’s been the backbone of his brothers, the one they all rely on in their lives and business. And when it comes to falling in love and creating a life, he knows what it’s like to have it all and watch it crumble. He’s done with looking for another person to warm his bed, but apparently he didn’t learn his lesson because the new piercer at Montgomery Ink tempts him like no other.

Blake Brennen may have been born a trust fund baby, but she’s created a whole new life for herself in the world of ink, piercings, and freedom. Only the ties she’d thought she’d cut long ago aren’t as severed as she’d believed. When she finds Graham constantly in her path, she knows from first glance that he’s the wrong kind of guy for her. Except that Blake excels at making the wrong choice and Graham might be the ultimate temptation for the bad girl she’d thought long buried.

Excerpt
When the game started, and the Avs took the ice, Graham kept his attention on the players rather than the very sexy woman beside him. His team needed his head to be in the game and not on Blake’s curves. And, yes, he might be a little superstitious, but whatever.

At the face off, Toronto took possession of the puck, and Blake let out a little cheer— not loud enough for others to hear, but just those on either side of her. Holy hell, had Austin sent a traitor into their midst? A freaking Toronto fan at a home game for the Avalanche? What the hell was that Montgomery thinking?

He growled at her as she quietly cheered the first Maple Leaf goal and met Derek’s eyes. Why the hell was the other man laughing? Couldn’t he see that Blake was cheering for the wrong team? She lived in freaking Denver for God’s sake, and considering that her family’s ancestral home was here, she had to be a native. And yet, she cheered for Toronto? It was as if she were trying to annoy him.

After the first period, he got up, his hands fisting at his sides. “I need another beer.”

Owen, who had been quiet the entire time since he was apparently answering emails on his phone, looked up. “Grab me a soda, will you? I need some caffeine, and since I’m driving us home, I’ll let you drink.” He winked toward Blake. “I think you’re going to need alcohol tonight.”

Graham grunted and stomped his way through the aisle and up the stairs so he could get a beer. Since everyone and their mother got up during intermission, he’d have to wait in line, but maybe that would help him cool off. He was just so freaking pissed that she would dare root for another team. And that made no sense. Why could she get under his skin so easily?

“Hey, Graham, wait up,” Derek said as he jogged up behind him.

“I don’t know what you did to piss Blake off, but I should probably let you know she’d rooting for Toronto just to needle you.”

Graham turned. “Excuse me?”

He must have looked like he wanted to rip someone’s arm off because a few people moved back in the line and Derek held up his hands. “She’s a diehard Avs fan. Even owns a signed Sakic jersey and keeps a spare she can wear during games. The signed one only comes out during the playoffs. It’s got to be killing her to root for the other team, and it must be because of you.”

That little witch. “How do you know it’s not because of you?” he asked, intrigued and pissed off all at the same time that she would do something like that.

“Because we’re friends, not close ones, but friends. This isn’t a date or anything, just to let you know. I think she’s single, but since my girlfriend up in Seattle would skin me if I even dared to look at Blake that way, I’m just fine as I am. Anyway, I thought you should know that she’s just trying to piss you off. Bro code and all that.”

Graham clenched his teeth. “Bro code.” He ordered his beer, Owen’s soda, and paid for Derek and Blake’s drinks since Derek had been so helpful.

“What are you going to do about Blake?” Derek asked as they made their way back to the entrance and showed their tickets.

“Don’t know yet.” And that was the problem. He never knew about anything where it came to this woman. She could intrigue him, turn him on, and piss him off all in the span of ten minutes. That had to be a record.

He handed Owen his drink and sat back down, studying Blake as he did so.

“What?” she asked, brows raised.

“Nothing,” he said softly. “Not yet anyway.”

She blinked and opened her mouth to say something, then froze as people started to chant, “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” around them.

Graham slowly looked up at the huge screen on top of the ice and cursed. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”

Blake laughed. “No way. No fucking way.”

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”

He was pretty sure Owen was yelling the loudest, and Graham was going to have to kick his brother’s ass when this was over.

“Fuck it,” Graham growled and gripped the back of Blake’s head and crushed his mouth to hers. They both froze a moment as cheers erupted around them before he sank deeper into the kiss. He didn’t open his mouth, wouldn’t let his tongue touch hers, but the moment of lips against lips left him breathless.

He pulled back, his eyes wide, Blake’s even wider.

“What the hell was that?” Blake gasped, her cheeks slashed with red.

“I…” He cleared his throat. “Just watch the game. And you can cheer for your precious Avs. Don’t hurt yourself going for Toronto.”

He turned away from her and gulped half his beer down in one go.

He could feel Blake’s eyes on him before she turned away, and see her hands shaking out of the corner of his eye.

“Dude,” Owen whispered. “This is going to be fun.”

“Fuck you,” Graham growled and drank the last of his beer.

He didn’t know what had come over him, but that had to be the last of it. There was no way he was going to go there. If he were this unraveled and tense at the same time with just one kiss, with just one look, he wouldn’t make it if he had her in his arms. In his bed.

Blake wasn’t for him, and damn it, he didn’t want her to be.

The Kiss Cam could go straight to hell.

Excerpt
I’m still mulling my career prospects when a new shape catches my eye. I suck in a deep, trembling breath.

There. It’s him.

The driver’s side door of the lead SUV opens, and even the way the door opens reminds me of those meticulous, careful movements, like he’s aware constantly that his own body is a blade and with the slightest wrong movement, he could destroy an innocent bystander.

It’s an instant slug to my gut. Something between hate and sad and longing.

Even dressed for the weather in black gloves and a thick jacket over his suit, he’s neat and crisp and so perfectly put together. That subtle air of menace around him always reminds me exactly why girls always love those sinister, elegant, wickedly sadistic movie villains.

It’s not just that he looks like he could kill a man with his pinky finger.

It’s that he looks like he could twist your body up into a million knots without even trying, and then smile in that slow, serpentine way he has as you explode into stars everywhere and completely fall apart. He could be Lucifer himself, fallen angel and master of hell. Or maybe just the quintessential bad boy.

Unfortunately for me, the way my lungs pull tight and the heat in the pit of my belly, tells me far too well how true that is.

James Nobel is dangerous in more ways than one.

He’s a complete and utter demon in bed, and he’ll make you develop kinks you didn’t realize were possible. My toes scrunch and I’m instinctively biting my lip.

I had no idea, until one fateful night on a training mission, that I apparently have a thing for lying naked and vulnerable under a fully-dressed man in a three-piece suit, while he strokes every inch of my body, slips his fingers inside me, works me into a fever, and then leaves me breathless and hovering on the edge.

Refusing to bring me over the edge until I admit in broken, gasping whispers that I need him, crave him, can’t live another second without his fire.

He’s got such sensitive hands, too. Hands that can play a woman’s body the same way he plays piano keys…and he used them ruthlessly.

Until I came completely undone. Always after I thought I’d gotten under his skin and broken his control.

Instead, I’d only learned he was just as good at controlling my body as he is at controlling his own.

Oh God, I can’t be thinking about this right now.

Excerpt #3
“This is my first live game,” I shared. “I’m so excited. Thank you so much for bringing me here.”

He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and curled me into his body before he pressed a kiss to the top of my head. “I wanted to bring you to the game because I knew you’d have a good time, but I had another motive,” he admitted.

I looked up at him, waiting for another explanation.

“Rocco’s looking forward to meeting you.”

My jaw dropped. “He knows about me?”

Lorenzo nodded.

I didn’t say anything for a long time as I processed the information that he’d spoken to his brother about me already. It wasn’t long before I noticed Lorenzo started to worry, so I quickly set his mind at ease.

“Do you think he’ll sign my jersey?” I wondered.

At that, my big guy burst out laughing. A couple hours later, we’d watched warm-ups, celebrated two goals, and were nearing the end of the second period.

But we were down by two.

I was pacing.

I was angry.

I was going to be absolutely devastated if my first experience at a live game ended in a loss.

Just then, I watched as Rocco got slashed on a breakaway toward the net. The ref missed it and I couldn’t control what came over me.

“Get off your knees ref, you’re blowing the game!!” I shouted.

I looked to Lorenzo and found him laughing. “Relax, baby. It’s okay.”

“What?” I shrieked in horror and disbelief. “Are you kidding me?  These guys have missed half a dozen calls.”

“I know, but you’re so worked up. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait until we get back to your place to do something about it.”

Thankfully, five minutes later, I’d mellowed out a touch because we scored. There was nothing like a Summits’ goal celebration. By the beginning of the third period, though, I was right back to feeling frustrated. Lorenzo knew it and came up behind me. His hands squeezed my shoulders, trying to relieve some of my tension. It helped a little having him close, but then the ref made another bad call, put the opposing team on the power play, and I lost it.

With each word I yelled, my voice got louder and louder. “I wonder if this ref’s wife knows he’s fucking us!” I shouted.

Lorenzo’s body shook with laughter behind me. He squeezed my shoulders in response and his mouth came to my ear. “Jolie, you’ve got a filthy mouth when you’re pissed.”

A whistle blew and I was shocked to find that a penalty was called on the opposing team. It was about time. We were going to be on our first power play of the game, which was great for us. The Summits were second in the league on the power play, largely due to Rocco’s slapshot. He didn’t have the fastest one in the league, but he was precise. His accuracy was off the charts.

I couldn’t sit, but I couldn’t stand still either.

During the last ten seconds of the power play, Rocco got a killer pass from his defenseman and rocketed a shot to the back of the net. I jumped up in celebration and turned toward Lorenzo. Throwing my arms around his neck, we celebrated the goal along with the rest of the fans in the arena.

“He’s so good,” I gushed. “You’ve got to be so proud of him, boss.”

Grinning huge, Lorenzo replied, “I am.”

Excerpt #1
THE FIRST STEP OF MANY

The screech-like cry of the seagulls rent the air.

“They laugh at me,” Witon remarked acerbically, shading his eyes with his hand as he followed the flight of the ocean fowl above the glittering sea.

“No, My Lord, they send ye a bon voyage,” said Persky, looking up at Witon, the adoration blatant in his slanted eyes.

The sun sparked off the ocean, the wind playfully nipping at it, making small, lively waves upon its surface. The pungent, briny scent of it invaded Witon’s nostrils and his adrenaline soared with the promise of the quest.

He stood at the very edge of the long dock, unable to move his gaze from the beautiful vessel bobbing gently upon low waves.

“She’s not big, sir, but she’s quite beautiful,” Persky said as if reading Witon’s mind.

Witon turned his dazzling smile to the small creature. Choosing Persky as his first mate was one of the easiest decisions Witon had ever made.

They made an interesting sight standing together; one fairly small, the other slightly more than six and three, but in each burned the same loyalty… to each other and the beliefs and dreams that bound them.

Witon turned his smile back to the ship his father’s legacy had helped to build. The sailing craft, a three-masted schooner about one hundred and twenty-five feet long, was constructed of mostly square timbers. The ship’s design served multiple purposes; to bring them to their destination, to return and guide the second ship onward, and, once there, to be dismantled and the wood used to erect temporary housing in their new world.

“A new world,” Witon intoned, as if he prayed.

“You have never looked at me so longingly.” The soft, seductive feminine voice broke Witon’s contemplation. With a hearty chuckle and a hitch in his breath at the recollection of last night’s perusal of her, he turned to see his Belamay approaching, resplendent in her form-fitting purple bliaut, the gold chain resting on her hips marking their sensual sway.

“My longing for you is always here.” He placed a hand upon his heart. Leaning down, he brushed his lips upon hers, his eyes never leaving her bright face, one he swore looked more beautiful than the day he had first seen it.

Where would I be without her?

Belamay reached up and pushed a stray strand of white hair from Witon’s face. He felt her gaze warm upon his cheeks. Pulling back, but only a smidge, she laughed with almost comic delight.

“Do I amuse you so?” Witon did his best to look brutish; smoothing any smile from his sun-drenched skin, forming a straight line with his full lips. A futile attempt.

“Your eyes are aglow like a boy’s, one ready to grab a sword for the first time,” Belamay chortled.

Her laughter died away and in her pitch-dark eyes, Witon saw what he felt, the heartbreak of leave-taking.

“It will not be long, I swear it to you,” Witon said as if reading her mind. “If the maps are correct, we shall reach land in just four days. As soon as we do, I shall send the ship back to lead yours.”

“If the maps are correct… if you don’t encounter a storm… if…”

“If you worry so much, you cannot see to our work.” Witon entwined her arm in his and led her to the edge of the dock. “I need you to reassure the others, keep them from changing their minds. They will feel the same fear as you. You must keep them strong.”

Belamay commanded what they called the ship of love, for when the first vessel made land, they would follow, the families of those who charted the course, who dared go before all others, into the unknown. She would bring their loved ones and, with them, the new land would be full of the love required for a world to be born.

She shook her head with a smile and Witon knew she shook off her fears. She became, once more, that fiery, ferocious warrior he had met on the battlefield.

“I will keep myself, and them all, strong.” Belamay squeezed his arm.

In tune as always, their twin gazes danced out upon the sea, pulled out to the ocean’s horizon.

“Look, Bel, do ye see it?” His voice came as naught more than a whisper, a faint breeze.

Belamay strained her eyes to search the gently undulating water.

“See what, Witon?”

“Our future,” he said, gifting her with his dazzling smile. “I see our future free of hatred and bigotry, a peaceful and serene life, where we can raise dozens of children without constant worry, without losing them to endless battles and war.”

Belamay’s jaw dropped, unhinged, her eyes popped, bulging.

“D… dozens?” she croaked, shooting a sly look from the corner of her eyes.

Witon gave her hip a slight nudge with his.

“Tease,” he chirped, delighted.

Witon turned and raised the hand he held in his. With his gaze locked upon hers, he lifted the cuff of her glove, and, with the softness of a feather’s caress, brushed his lips on the underside of her wrist where the skin was thin and the blood rushed so close to the surface. “We will have as many children as you wish, my dear.”

He smiled as he watched her skin ripple with pleasure.

“Now who is the tease?” she said, her voice low and husky.

“We will have to…”

“My Lord, My Lord!” Persky ran toward them, calling loudly, waving his arms. “They’re coming!”

Witon’s eyes popped; he clutched the hands in his.

“They’re coming!” Witon whispered, his voice prayer-like once more. With a parting squeeze of his lover’s hands, he spun round to follow Persky.

Belamay smiled as she watched him hurry away. No longer the seductive rogue, but a boy again, Witon shimmered, brilliantly alive with the promise of what lay ahead. She quickened her own step. This historic moment would not happen without her.

Excerpt #1
“I would be in your debt.” He squeezed the receiver of the landline in the kitchen. To say that the guest ranch was remote was putting it mildly. There was no TV, no internet, no cell phone service. The lodge had three landline phones with outside access, one of them large and black and possibly original to the ranch. It was located in the lodge lounge. Guests always got a kick out of it since anyone under about thirty had never used a phone with a dial.

“Seriously, I apologize for calling at such late notice,” he said, closing his eyes as he made a wish that this would work out. “I’ll understand if you really can’t do it.” There was no reason this woman would agree to this given the way he’d treated her when they were young.

Another bemused chuckle. “How about I pick up a few things and see you in a couple of hours.”

Will couldn’t believe it, telling himself that no matter what Dorothea said, their luck had changed. He let out a relieved breath. At the back of his mind, though, there remained a sliver of unease about hiring Poppy given their history. He hoped he wasn’t making a mistake.

He watched his younger brother leave the kitchen to go outside to welcome the guests. Shade was more of a natural at this than either Garrett or himself, Will thought. But it was late March, calving season, so both of his brothers would be returning to the ranch down in the valley today. They’d only stopped up to bring him the supplies Buckshot hadn’t been able to finish delivering himself after he’d broken his leg.

“You’re saving my life,” Will said into the phone.

“What are old friends for?” Poppy replied and disconnected.

He stood for a moment holding the phone, repeating her words in his head and trying to decide if her tone was cause for concern. They had definitely not been old friends—at least, not at the end.

“What’s wrong?” Garrett asked as he finished his water and deposited the plastic bottle in the recycling bin.

Will shook his head. “Poppy. It’s just that I don’t remember leaving things on the best of terms with her before she moved away.”

His brother laughed. “That was twenty years ago! I’m sure she doesn’t remember. She was just a kid.”

He nodded. “A kid with a crush on me. I’m betting I could have handled it better.”

“Seriously?” Garrett said as he placed a hand on his shoulder. “You were fifteen and what was she, twelve?” He shook his head. “It will be fine.” Then he laughed. “Of course, if I’m wrong you just hired a cook who might poison you.” He seemed to think that was a lot more humorous than it was as he left laughing.

Will turned to see Dorothea shaking her head.

“Everything is going to be fine,” he tried to assure her and himself. He’d waited years for his father to step aside and let him run the guest ranch. After his father’s fatal heart attack, he wanted to make him proud. They might have butted heads, but he loved his father and knew that the man only wanted the best for him and his brothers—and the guest ranch. Now, it was up to Will to take over the legacy he’d been left and not screw it up. “I have everything under control.”

Excerpt
… It’s what I’ve been working for. Even though I still want to finish school and get my associates degree, I know I want to get my foot in the door with personal training.

Thankfully, Becky walks through the door, nothing but skintight yoga pants, a white sports bra, and grinning widely at me. I don’t date, but if there’s a girl that I’d call a constant in my world, it’s Becky. No fuss, no muss. We keep it clean, with no strings attached.

“Hey, Taylor,” she says with a smile.

“What’s up, Becks?”

Leaning against the counter, her breasts are on full display; she doesn’t have to try very hard to flaunt them. They’re fake, but hell if I care. “How about that raincheck tonight?”

I groan. “Can’t do it tonight, heading out of town.”

Her exaggerated pout makes my eyes find her lips. “You’re no fun.”

“How about tomorrow night? Cal and Ethan are celebrating.”

“Oh.” She perks up with excitement. “Celebrating what?”

“They’re branching out. Cal’s finally opening up his own place.”

Eyeing me carefully, she looks around, dropping her voice. “Oh, are you gonna be joining them?”

“Not sure yet. Cal says it’s an open invitation, so we’ll see I guess.”

Leaning closer, she licks her lips. “You should. I’d love some more one-on-one time with you.”

“Oh, I don’t see that being a problem, no matter where I’m at,” I answer, lifting a brow. “You still have my number?”

“Of course.”

“Hit me up tomorrow, and I’ll tell you where we’ll be at tomorrow night.”

Her eyes linger on me as she walks into the gym, behind frosted glass doors. Micah chuckles behind me.

“Seriously, if there is anyone that you might as well just date, it should be Becky. I actually think she’s starting to like you.”

“You’re crazy.”

“Seriously.”

“Come on, Micah. She knows the score.”

He shakes his head, shrugging. “Okay, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Would you ever think about trying something with her?”

I quirk an eyebrow at him. I know exactly what he’s talking about, but I don’t feel like having an honest conversation right now. “As a matter of fact, Micah,” I pause, making him give me a suspicious look, “there’s a whole lot of things I’d still like to try with her.”

He starts laughing. “And on that note, I’m gonna clean the locker rooms. Freak.”

Excerpt #4
From Chapter 22
Queen Shavash and Princess Briseis

BRISEIS FUSSED WITH her gown. “I don’t like the color, Mother.” She scratched at the golden belt.

“It brings out the pale of your eyes. It’s a fine blue dye. Very costly. Your father searched high and low for such a treasure.” Shavash cupped her daughter’s cheek. ”I’ve dreamt of this day since I carried you beneath my heart.”

“I don’t care about Chryseis’ prophecy. I don’t want to marry a warrior.”

“A prince, Briseis. Hektor is the Prince of Troy. There is no more worthy man than he.”

“He’s old.”

“Wise.”

Briseis wrinkled her nose. “Old. Wise. What if he’s hairy? Stinks of horse?”

Shavash laughed. “Daughter, you needn’t worry about such matters. He’s said to be most handsome. He was a lovely boy, as I recall.”

“If you say so.” Briseis gave a final tug at her gown. “Can we get this over with?”

“Smile.”

“I don’t want to smile.”

Shavash sighed heavily. Moving to her daughter’s side, she grabbed Briseis firmly by the chin. “Marriage isn’t about what we want as women. It’s about what we provide to our husbands and our cities. The men plant their seeds in our bodies and we bear the fruit of their legacy.” She squeezed tighter. “It’s the way of our world. If you’re blessed with a kind and handsome husband, bear him many children, consider yourself blessed by the gods. Fight this, and you will surely be cursed and not just by the gods, but by your father … and your mother.”

The young Princess of Pedasus stared into her mother’s hard eyes. Her chin quivered in her mother’s tight grasp. Her lips moved awkwardly as she said, “I obey.”

Shavash released her grip, returning once again to the doting mother. “Good. See, you’re more ready to be a wife than you realized.”

TENDER OLIVE BRANCHES and flowers decorated the courtyard, filling the air with the pungent aromas of a fresh spring. Colorful ribbons and banners fluttered gently in the warm breeze. Musicians plucked a melodic tune with lyres and flutes. All eyes turned toward Briseis clinging to her mother’s hand, as she followed behind her father, King Briseus, into the midst of the joyful gathering anticipating a betrothal of the Prince of Troy to the Princess of Pedasus. They stopped before the king and queen seated across the way.

King Briseus bowed his head, Queen Shavash elbowed Briseis to follow suit. The princess kept her eyes downcast, afraid to look up and find the man her parents intended her to marry staring at her.

Queen Hecuba spoke with a soft command. “Raise your face to me, child. Let me see for myself this great beauty, not yet in full bloom.”

Briseis lifted her head, leveling her eyes to the queen’s. She squirmed under Hecuba’s intense scrutiny.

“It’s true, you do have an enchanting face.” Signaling across the courtyard, Hecuba caught Hektor’s attention. “You should meet my son, Prince Hektor.”

As the queen finished speaking, a tall, dark-skinned man came to stand beside her. His shoulders were so wide that he blocked the afternoon light. Briseis blinked and her heart pounded.

Shavash smiled widely at the man. “Hektor? You’ve grown so much I can scarce see the boy you used to be.”

“Queen Shavash, I am honored you remember me at all.”

“How could I forget the boy who could think of nothing else but his warhorse? Do you still have him?”

Hektor smiled, showing all of his teeth. “He’s a fine animal. The prize of the royal stables.”

“As it should be,” Shavash replied.

Briseis picked at her palm with a fingernail. He’s so old and hairy. Sweat trickled down the center of her back. I don’t want to marry him. I don’t want to marry anybody.

Queen Shavash put her hand gently behind her daughter’s back, pushing her slightly forward. “Prince Hektor, this is my daughter, the Princess Briseis.”

Briseis glanced up to see Hektor’s expectant face. In the corner of her eye, she could see her father standing there beaming with pride and hope, and a young woman staring at her with eyes of ice. She bowed her head. “I-I am …”

Hektor laughed. “Am I so ugly, then?”

Giggling nervously, Briseis squeaked, “No.” Just hairy. Crimson heat crept to her cheeks.

“That’s good to hear. It would be awkward if my future wife found me undesirable.”

A voice said, “She will never marry you, brother.”

All heads turned toward the woman with the icy glare. Briseis shivered.

King Priam’s face flattened with impatience, as he snapped, “Keep your ill words to yourself, Cassandra. It’s her destiny to marry the greatest warrior. She will marry Hektor, if he will have her.”

The Trojan princess’ face turned as white as ash from a dead fire. “There will be smoke and fire when he arrives. And he will take her as his prize.”

Horrified faces turned toward Briseis. Tears spilled over her bottom lashes. What does she mean? What smoke and fire?

Prince Hektor ignored his sister’s words. “Would you care to see the stables, Princess Briseis?”

Still shaken, Briseis whispered, “Yes, if my mother will allow it.”

Queen Hecuba waved a hand and a royal guard gently escorted the strange woman away. “Of course, she will. She’ll recall the way to the Hektor’s heart is through the stable.”

As Hektor extended a warm hand, Briseis smiled for the first time in days. Maybe he isn’t too hairy after all.

Excerpt #1
Everything comes to a crashing halt as I smash into the concrete barriers edging the track.

Ringing in my ears.

Shuddering and grinding of metal.

Stars pop and explode in my eyes.

Shock of the abrupt stop.

Blackness.

As my senses slowly return, the first thing I hear is my ragged breathing and the whoosh of blood in my ears made louder by my helmet. I’m alive. The windshield is cracked and the roof has split away from the body on the passenger side. The pinging and hiss of coolant and liquids escaping their reservoirs to flow over the hot engine comes next. Shit. My engine is off. Without thinking, I reach forward to get the ignition to fire, but my arm won’t respond to my brain’s signal. I try again, stopping instantly when pain explodes into my awareness.

Well, fuck, that’s an injury. Okay, mental body check. I wiggle my toes, and manage to move my feet. I pick up my knees a little. I rotate my head and find I’m already fucking sore, but I can move my neck just fine. It’s only my right arm that’s fucked, I think.

Lights flash past my window and stop. Motherfucker. I’m gonna get carted off the track in an ambulance unless I pull myself out of this. I unstrap and do my best to get out of the constricting harness. I push open the door and slowly climb out of the car one-handed. A roar erupts from the crowd as I look up. Everyone in the stands is cheering and pushing toward the railing nearest where I hit. I tuck my right arm into my side and wave with my left.

Yeah, I’m fucking alive.

I use my good hand to pull my helmet off and take a deep breath that drags through my lungs and stirs the anxiety pooling in my belly. This is fucking bad.

“Sir, can you hear me? We need you to come with us.” I look toward the voice and find a uniformed paramedic holding out his blue-gloved hands to guide me to the back of the waiting ambulance.

“Gimme a minute.” The ringing in my ears makes it hard to tell just how loud I’m speaking. I walk past the EMS guy toward the back of the 350Z, taking in another deep breath.

The Beast is trashed. The entire right side is smashed in from colliding with the wall and the back end of the car is literally gone. It’s in pieces strewn for ten feet along the wall behind where I came to a stop. I must have hit back-end first and then rotated to the side and skid along the wall. The roof is lifted off the body over the passenger door, and as I come closer around the back, I see the right back quarter panel is torn and the back wheel bent and falling off.

Jesus Christ. The damage is unreal. How am I walking away from this? Thank fuck for proper safety equipment that does its job.

My eyes are drawn back to the wreckage. Near the front of the car a single black feather floats to rest on a torn off chunk of bumper. I was just thinking about her and now this? Mother fucker. Dawning awareness of my injuries and pain that is unreal makes me nearly crumple.

“Sir, we need to check you out now.” Paramedic dude is back, this time placing a hand firmly on my back, leading me away from my broken car.

Leading me away from the future I just pissed away. Again.
