Synopsis Alek Khederian thinks about his life B.E. and A.E.: Before Ethan and After Ethan. Before Ethan, Alek was just an average Armenian-American kid with a mess of curly dark hair, grades not nearly good enough for his parents, and no idea of who he was or what he wanted. After he got together with Ethan, Alek was a new man. Stylish. Confident. (And even if he wasn’t quite marching in LGBTQ parades), Gay and Out and Proud.
With their six-month anniversary coming up, Alek and Ethan want to do something special to celebrate. Like, really special. Like, the most special thing two people in love can do with one another. But Alek’s not sure he’s ready for that. And then he learns something about Ethan that may not just change their relationship, but end it.
Alek can’t bear the thought of finding out who he’d be P.E.: Post-Ethan. But he also can’t forgive or forget what Ethan did. Luckily, his best friend Becky and madcap Armenain family are there to help him figure out whether it’s time to just let Ethan go, or reach out and hold his hand.
HoldMyHand is a funny, smart, relatable take on the joy and challenges of teenage love, the boundaries of forgiveness, and what it really means to be honest.
Excerpt #1 Kissing Ethan rocked.
Kissing Ethan was like taking a rocket to outer space, floating in zero gravity, and marveling at the incomprehensible beauty of the creations of the universe. Kissing Ethan was sweet like the last piece of baklava, drenched in honey, snatched from the bottom of the box. Kissing Ethan was the answer to an unasked prayer.
And then there was being kissed by Ethan.
Being kissed by Ethan was not the same as kissing him.
Being kissed by Ethan was rapture, surrender. Being kissed was surfing a wave of joy, unpredictable and uncontrollable, that could break any moment and send you tumbling, an end- less series of surprises.
Being kissed by Ethan was endorphins kicking in two hours into a tennis match, transforming pain into euphoria. It was being a ship in a violent storm, hoping you wouldn’t be torn apart as the ocean churned beneath you. It was feeling like your skin, your very body, would explode because it couldn’t possibly contain all the joy pulsing through it.
Alek brought Ethan’s face back up to his own. He kissed Ethan back.
Kissing Ethan was safer than being kissed by him. “Whoa.” Alek pulled away, gasping for air, as if he’d just edged out a victory in the tiebreaker of a five-set tennis match, full of baseline strokes, cross-court slams, and net game saves. “Come on,” Ethan purred. “We’re just getting started.”
Hundreds of half-naked men stared at Alek from the images Ethan had plastered around his room, cut from magazine ads—a kaleidoscopic homage to homoeroticism. The effect was dizzying as wall and ceiling and floor merged, seemingly seamlessly, with sculpted torsos and abs and chests and calves.
“I promised my mom I’d help get ready for Thanksgiving.” Alek retrieved his bright purple shirt with plaid-gray details from the chair by Ethan’s desk, the only pieces of furniture in the room other than the bed, where Ethan remained.
“I hate to point out the obvious, but Thanksgiving isn’t for another week.” Ethan rolled over. “Or is this some weird Armenian thing, like Christmas, that you celebrate at a different time than everyone else in the whole freakin’ world?”
“We Armenians celebrate Thanksgiving just like everyone else in this country, thank you very much. Although, did you know that Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October?”
“No, I did not know that.” Ethan sat up, surrendering to Alek’s departure. “You’re going to your grandma’s for Thanks- giving, right?”
“That was the plan.” Alek finished the last buttons on his shirt and grabbed his leather book bag, groaning under its nearing-midterms weight. “But then Nana twisted her ankle, so she decided she wasn’t up to hosting Thanksgiving. I will try to spare you the political saga that ensued as my dad and his two siblings negotiated who would assume the mantle, but suffice to say it involved three instances of blackmail, two of coercion, the reemergence of a fight from twenty years ago when my dad and his older sister were in college that had something to do with a cat, tears, apologies, more tears, and a complicated negotiation involving a credenza that both my dad and his younger brother would like once Nana finally passes to the next world. We’re talking backroom deals that would almost put 45’s presidential administration to shame.”
“And this is sparing me the saga?”
Alek nodded. “The long and short of it is that we will be hosting Thanksgiving this year, so yes—seven days is barely enough time to prepare. My mom took the week off from the UN. THE ENTIRE WEEK. Because she knows that hosting her in-laws is a prime opportunity for Nana to judge my mom’s cooking, housekeeping, and child-rearing. In fact, one of the Sunday-morning news shows theorized that Nana intention- ally twisted her ankle just to have the opportunity to criticize whoever was fool enough to step up.”
Ethan rolled over on his back, defeated. “Are all Armenian families this complicated?”
“From what I hear at church, we’re on the simpler side. My mom has six siblings who all live in the same town in Southern Cali. I’m amazed they haven’t had a Romeo and Juliet–style feud spring up there.” Alek finished tying his shoes. “I’ll see you soon, okay?”

Synopsis Our relationship is over. We’ve loved and lost. Or that’s what we thought. It was one drunken night at his sister’s wedding and we fooled around…a one-night hook up. And then we became XWB (exes with benefits) nothing serious–just for fun. There’s no way I’d ever get pregnant right?
Excerpt #2 I’ve managed to accomplish nearly nothing all afternoon. Wonder why? I’ve looked up baby names, baby bottles, baby clothes, baby books, and articles on baby brain development for the last three hours, but other than that? Nothing. My cell buzzes and I grab it from my purse. Recognizing the phone number of Katy the director of HR at the tech company in Palo Alto, I jump up from my desk and push shut my office door.
“Hey, this is Carmen,” I say
“Carmen!” Katy’s voice is more chipper than a cruise director on speed. “Wanted to check in with you to see if you got our offer and benefits package!”
“I did, thank you, just uh…looking over that now,” I say. I sit at my desk and pull the offer up on my computer. Waaaay better than what I make now, plus the opportunity to work with a tech firm in Northern California is just exactly what I’ve always wanted.
“We were hoping to get a commitment from you…soon.”
“Right,” I sigh. “Could you, uh…give me a few more days?”
“Sure thing! You’ll want to discuss it with the husband.” I hear her smile over the phone. I don’t mention that there is no husband to discuss the offer with. She continues, “I get it. Big move and all. Get back to me as soon as you can, cause you’re the person we want for this job!”
“Thanks,” I say and press off on my phone.
Pregnant. New job. Divorce. And a move.
Hmm…not much else I can handle today. Think I’ll head home to pajamas and Netflix and possibly a dinner with Dave, since he did offer to Netflix and chill tonight.
I’m nearly home when my phone rings again. This time, it’s Becca. She’s been checking in on me every other day since she got back from her honeymoon. I answer and after she fills me in on the latest way that Jake is proving to her how perfect she is—ah newlyweds—the topic turns to getting together.
“Wait, so are we still on for yoga?” Becca asks. “Torrey can’t come because she’s packing.”
“She’s seriously moving to Australia?” I ask.
“Yep, three months there, then six months here. She and Brett are giving it a try. Personally, I think it’s totally gonna work. I mean, why not?”
“Why not indeed,” I say. “Yes to yoga.” I pull open my front door to what was Dave and my house, and what will soon be my house only, and then possibly some other couple’s house entirely.
“Okay great, gotta go. Mr. Jia and Dad just arrived.” Becca clicks off.
The house smells like red sauce and garlic and basil and pasta and…oh my God is that chicken parm?
“Hey! I’m in the kitchen,” Dave calls out.
I hang my jacket in the closet. He never made dinner when we were married. I take a deep breath and plaster a smile onto my face. I still don’t know what I’m going to tell Dave…or when. With all the loss we experienced as a couple, part of me feels as though I need to sit with this information. I turn the corner and the sexiest man I know stands over a pan of marinara, stirring with a wooden spoon. Making sauce. He turns to me and grabs a bottle of Chianti and pours a glass.
“And some wine for you. Who was on the phone?”
Great… “Thank you,” I say and set the glass down on the kitchen island, because I’m completely not drinking wine for like eight months. “It was your sister,” I say and walk around to the stove. “So, when you said exes with benefits, I had no idea that it included homemade chicken parm.”
“You’ve been working hard and I thought that maybe you’d enjoy a home cooked meal.” Dave lifts the wooden spoon filled with sauce and places it in front of my lips.
“So listen, there’s something we should talk about,” I say.
“First the sauce,” he whispers, his voice low and sexy.
The scent of fresh garlic and basil wafts to my nose and for the first time since this morning, when I downed an entire jar of green olives at seven, food smells good. I close my eyes. I take a bite. The sauce is amazing.
Dave wiggles his eyebrows and glances from my eyes to my mouth and back up to my eyes. And there it is—that heat between us. Automatic. The heat that started the very first time we met at a charity event sponsored by the PR firm where I worked and his dad’s company, Ryan & Sons, had purchased an entire table. Even that night…we hooked up.
“You’ve got a little sauce…here,” he says, leaning toward me so his lips are near mine. My entire body is hyperaware of this man, with his hands and his muscles and his lips that are thick and soft. My nipples tighten beneath my shirt. He presses his lips to the corner of my mouth.
The scent of garlic and marinara and Dave and his lips are on mine. He slides his hand to the small of my back. He knows just how to make me melt into a puddle of goo. His lips drift down from my mouth to the curve of my neck. His hot breath on my flesh. He presses his other hand to my chest and his thumb rubs over the tight bud of my nipple.
“Anybody tell you how fucking hot you look today?” he whispers in my ear. His breath caresses my skin. He pulls my hair back and his lips are on my neck beneath my ear and his other hand is untucking my shirt.
“You’ll ruin the sauce,” I whisper.
“Fuck the sauce,” he says.
“I’d rather you fuck me.”
I grab his pants and pull at the buckle of his belt. All I want is his hard thick cock between my legs and I want it now. I’m so fucking turned on. Is this the hormones? Who knows, but my entire body is on fire. He has my shirt up and my bra unhooked and both his hands stroke my breasts. I unbutton his jeans.
I stroke my hand down his cock. “Fuck yes,” he says. Long. Hard. And fully engorged.
I want to be fucked hard and fast. I don’t want to think. I don’t want to worry. I just want this pleasure of him taking me. He can see my desire in my eyes, he knows I want him. He wraps his hand in my hair and yanks my head back until my neck tilts. I’m wet. So fucking wet. He spins me around and he presses his lips near my ear. His stubble is rough on the skin of my neck. He reaches his hands under my skirt and lifts it up and over my ass.
“I’m fucking you right here,” he says.
He reaches beneath my thong and slides it down my legs. My palms are flat on the cold marble of the kitchen island. My breast are bare and my tits press against the stone. He bends me forward. I want it from behind. He reaches around my hip and slides his fingers through my curls. His fingers spread the lips of my pussy and stroke my clit.
His mouth is near my ear. “I’ve been thinking about your hot little pussy all day, you know that, baby?”
I’m so turned on I can’t speak. All I want is his cock. The head presses against the slit of my ass. Hard and huge. Dave’s finger still circling my sensitive nub.
“You like it from behind, don’t you baby, you like it rough,” he whispers against my ear.
“I do,” I pant out. “I do.”
“How bad do you want my cock in you?” he asks. He pulls back on my hair and I’m even wetter between my legs.
“So bad,” I say. The tension of his hand in my hair and the pleasure of his hand stroking my pussy—I can barely stand it. “I’m going to come. Oh my God, Dave, I’m going to come.” My voice cracks with pleasure, his fingertip circling and stroking and taking me over the edge.
“That’s it, baby, come for me, come for me now then I’ll make you come for me with my cock.”
“Oh Dave, oh my God,” I yell. I press my hands to the cool marble stone and I fall over the edge of pleasure. He circles my clit once, twice, three times more and I twitch with pleasure from each touch.
“That’s right, baby, feels good doesn’t it?”
“So good,” I moan out.
Dave pulls his fingertip from my clit and slides two fingers deep into my pussy.
“Oh you’re tight, baby, and wet—so fucking wet for me. You want me in you?” he whispers.
My hips move forward and back, ready for the second orgasm he’ll give me with his cock.
“Yes, please, please,” I moan.
He pulls on my hair and slides his fingers in and out of my sex as my hips roll forward and back. He slips his fingers from inside me and rubs the tip of his cock near the opening of my sex. I thrust my ass back and against him, wanting more of him, wanting him to slide hard and deep into my pussy and fill me up. So slowly, he pushes the tip of his cock past my tight opening. I moan with pleasure. My pussy tightens around his thick shaft.
“Oh God,” I moan, wanting him to sink deeper into me. I press my ass back against him wanting to take more of him inside of me.
“You’re fucking wet, baby, you ready for all my cock?” he asks.
“So ready,” I say. “Take me, take me now.”
I don’t have to ask twice—he thrusts balls-deep into me.
“Oh fuck yes, your pussy is perfect,” he moans.
He pulls out and back and thrusts up and into me again. I can barely take it, my body is on fire for him. He clasps my hip and his breathing is ragged and intense. He thrusts and my ass thrusts back to meet him. Our skin slaps and we’re both on the edge, fast and hard losing all control.
“Fuck me,” I say, “fuck me harder.” He pulls my hair and fucks me. He bends over me and his lips are by my ear.
“Say it, Carm,” he whispers.
He thrusts. I breathe. He thrusts again.
I bite my bottom lip and he thrusts deep, so deep in my pussy. “I’m yours,” I whisper out. I’m so close, so fucking close.
“Louder,” he says.
I want to say it, I want it to be true. “I’m yours,” I say louder.
“Fuck yes,” Dave says, his thrust hard and deep. “That sweet pussy is mine.”
My body tenses as his hot cum jets into me and I call out his name. My pussy tightens around him and he releases deep inside me.
He presses his head to my neck and we stay that way until he slips his cock out of me. He presses his finger tip to my clit once more and my pussy tightens around nothingness and it makes me want him even more. He kisses the back of my neck, his beard rough against my flesh.
“Those are the benefits, babe,” he whispers in my ear.
I turn around. My lips are on his lips. He pulls my skirt down over my legs. I look into his eyes and he looks into mine.
My mind spins. I catch my breath. I press my cheek to his chest, hiding my gaze from his. Sometimes in life things just come too late. Like us. This. The baby came too late for us to be a couple. We may enjoy each other and we may have fucking-fantastic sex, but when we’re together for too long all we do is fight. Fight. Fight. Fight.
Six years of marriage proved that.
“I’m gonna go get cleaned up,” I say.
“I’ll finish dinner,” Dave says. He zips his pants and turns to the sink to scrub his hands.
I pass the dining room on the way toward the stairs. Roses. More wine. The table is set for two. Why not before now? Why not before I asked him to move out? What if he would’ve fixed me dinner even one night while we were married, or what if I’d wanted to have wild sex in the kitchen instead of constantly having him inject me with artificial hormones?
I sigh and close my eyes. Just stop. The past is the past. We’re nearly divorced and both of us are at peace with where our lives are going.
Of course that was before today. The pregnancy. The job. I head up the stairs wanting to put on sweatpants and a sweatshirt, to put the reality of what’s happening, so that Dave and I can pretend that we are only Ex’s With Benefits and Netflix and chill.

Welcome to the blog tour for BEACH WEDDING WEEKEND, a stand-alone adult contemporary romance, by Rachel Magee. See below for information on the book, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and details on her giveaway.
Synopsis You’re invited to a sunny beach town for a witty, heartwarming romance.
When Brody broke up with Paige and went to Europe, he suggested that someday, they’d pick up right where they left off. A hopeless romantic, she believed him.
But when they meet again, Brody’s dating a gorgeous actress.
They’re all going to attend the same wedding, and Paige plans to win Brody back. She even enlists her best friend’s brother, Aiden, to pretend to date her and make her ex jealous. A breezy, charming restaurant owner, Aiden actually avoids serious relationships, but as a fake boyfriend, he’s perfect.
As old friends and exes take part in wedding preparations and enjoy the beauty of the Florida coast, they begin to see themselves—and each other—in a new light.
This summer romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for BBQ Brisket Tacos with Sunshine Slaw.
Excerpt #3 “They’re protecting something.” Paige’s expression turned more serious and she looked out to study the rest of the dolphin pod. “Do you have a baby with you?”
Aiden scanned the group as well. What he’d thought was a pod of six had now grown, and he counted at least ten. And that’s when he saw it. It was so precious it could have softened the hardest heart. “Yep. A tiny one, right there next to its mom.”
The tiny dolphin stayed just below the surface. He was hard to spot because he hovered close to the front flipper of the larger dolphin Aiden assumed was his mother.
Both of Paige’s hands went to her heart and she made a muffled cooing sound. “Oh, Aiden, have you ever seen anything so adorable in your whole life?”
As if the mother had heard her, she swam a little closer, showing off the calf. The baby couldn’t have been more than three feet long and had a sort of clumsy newness about him. Aiden wouldn’t have been surprised if he was only a few days old.
“What a treat,” Paige whispered. The mistiness in her eyes glistened and joy glowed around her. Aiden agreed. This moment was a treat. And what was even more surprising was the realization that there wasn’t anyone else he would’ve wanted to share it with.
They sat there like that for at least ten minutes with the waves gently rocking them, encompassed in a bubble of wonder, escorted by a pair of large dolphins while they watched the rest of the pod play in the water next to them.
Finally, Paige turned her attention to their escorts. “What a precious little baby. Thank you for sharing him with us.”
The one in front popped up, smiling right at them as if to acknowledge the compliment, and then both escorts joined the others and the whole pod disappeared into the darker waters.
She reached back and covered his hand with hers. The warmth of her touch flowed through him, which caught him off guard. He stared at her hand in amazement for a moment before looking up at her. The peaceful expression on her face washed over him, too.
“Dolphins are my favorite animal, and I’ve never been this close to them in the wild. Weren’t they spectacular?”
Aiden shrugged and tried to look humble. “I arranged for them to be here as a thank you for helping me.”
She playfully pushed his hand away and turned her full attention back to where the dolphins had been, breathing out a contented sigh. “It doesn’t get much better than this, does it?”
No. No it didn’t.

Synopsis When her daughter suggests Darcy Madison attend her ex-husband’s wedding, Darcy enlists the help of her colleague, divorce attorney Victor Costello, to pose as her dashing young date. But when Victor proposes to Darcy at the reception, Darcy forgets they are pretending and says, “Yes!” Between her false engagement to Victor and her daughter’s suggestion to have a double wedding, Darcy falls even further in the fantasy of being a blushing midlife bride. The longer the masquerade continues, the more Darcy starts to wonder what is love and can it last forever in a world where divorce is the only language she knows?
Excerpt #2 Grabbing her briefcase, Darcy stepped into the blazing sunshine and locked the car doors. She thought about her own wedding as a twenty-two-year-old college graduate with a one-year-old daughter toddling around the garden, picking grass and putting it in her mouth.
Now, years later, Darcy struggled to contain her fears so she wouldn’t spoil her daughter’s same romantic illusions. How could she fight against her nature? After all, she thrived in helping people rally legal aid, housing, child support, and career options. She loved planning freedom parties to celebrate the finalization of divorce. She could not imagine drumming up the same level of enthusiasm to help her daughter pick out fine china she would never use and select a five-thousand dollar dress she would only wear once.
Joyce’s tender, yet pleading, voice rankled Darcy’s resistance. “Okay, okay, okay. I’ll help you plan your wedding.”

History tells his story. This is hers.
Excerpt Hephaestion brushed past the guard and followed the familiar route to the back of the spacious tent.
He arrived at an area decorated only with a small wooden desk and some stools. Hunched over and furiously pounding a stylus into a wax tablet was Alexander of Macedon.
“You must be here to report about the goings on atop the rock.”
Alexander looked up, and the intensity of his deep-set gray eyes struck him. Perhaps his square jaw and bulging forehead added to their piercing quality; Hephaestion wasn’t sure, but he’d seen Alexander use his gaze to intimidate many in the past. He wasn’t very tall and had a stocky build with broad shoulders and a thick chest. His ruddy skin, prone to burning in the sun, flushed whenever he was angry, a warning to those who knew him well to stay away. His disheveled, reddish-brown, wavy mane seemed perpetually in need of a good brushing, and his tunics never stayed clean for long. But it was his scars which intrigued the general most. He had one along his left cheek, another on the right side of his forehead, and another across his lower neck. Hephaestion couldn’t remember Alexander without scars. It was as if he had been born that way, a gift from the gods.
“How did it go?”
Hephaestion walked around the desk to Alexander’s side. “You’re chipper, considering you’ve been up for almost two days.”
“You know I hate to sleep. There’s always too much work to do.” Alexander returned his attention to one of the numerous scrolls scattered about his desk. “What news have you brought me?”
Hephaestion read one of the scrolls over Alexander’s shoulder. “Scouts are already on the second rock. Now that we know how to climb the damned things, we should have them under control by nightfall.”
Alexander dropped the stylus to the desk. “And what did you discover on top of the first rock?”
“The family of Baron Oxyartes. They’re now in your custody—his mother and three daughters.” Hephaestion raised his hand, anticipating Alexander’s next question. “Orders have been given that none of the women atop the rock are to be touched on pain of death. The men are well aware of your feelings about rape. At least now you’ll have something to bargain with to get Oxyartes to surrender. Holding the women hostage should speed things along.”
Alexander closed the wax tablet. “Any problems?”
Hephaestion shook his head. “No. They were too afraid to organize an attack. The men and women went screaming when they saw the soldiers arrive at the top. After that, it was pretty much routine.”
“The family of Oxyartes? You saw to their comfort?”
“Of course.” Hephaestion folded his long arms, itching to tell him about the girl. “You won’t believe this, but one of his daughters speaks Greek.”
Alexander’s eyes danced with interest. “Did this daughter, who speaks Greek, say anything to you?”
“It’s not so much what she said but how she said it. Not like a barbarian at all. She had a kind of bearing, a certain dignity I’ve not seen before in these people. She was very …” He hesitated, knowing it would spur his friend’s curiosity.
“What?” Alexander insisted.
Hephaestion grinned. “Spirited.”
He could almost see the wheels turning in Alexander’s mind. He never stopped thinking or planning. Alexander was always one step ahead of everyone else. He had to be. It was the only way to remain king and stay alive.
“Was she pretty or did she have the face of a pig?”
“The girl?” Hephaestion smiled, knowing his answer would please his king. “She was the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
Alexander raised his eyebrows. “What was the name of this beautiful girl who spoke Greek?”
Feeling that nudge of satisfaction at seeing Alexander beguiled, Hephaestion angled closer and whispered, “Roxana.”

Synopsis Tall, handsome, and eternally optimistic Noah has dated a string of gorgeous women. His best friend Elle has outlasted them all. Of course, he has no idea she’s been in love with him for years. Why would he? It’s not like she’s going to tell him. After all, she’s short and awkward, and as he’s fond of reminding her, has a sour disposition.
When Elle takes off on her annual ten-day vacation with her family, Noah comes to a startling realization. She’s the woman who is by his side day in and day out, whose office is across the hall, and whose house is around the corner. She has called him on his shit when he gets too cocky, and he has held her in her arms when her heart was broken. Absence must make the heart grow fonder because while she’s in Germany with her parents, he realizes that everything he has ever wanted was right there all along. Now he’s on a mission to make her realize that romance won’t ruin their friendship, but platonic friendship is ruining their relationship.
Excerpt I’m a guy, and as a guy, I am a great appreciator of the female form in all its glory. I’ve met women who could easily be supermodels, but who were unattractive because of their personalities, intellect, or lack thereof. I have dated women who were what some guys might consider average looking, but who blew me away with their intelligence, wit, or sense of humor, and that made them sexy as hell.
One thing I’m certain of is that finding a woman who is gorgeous, intelligent, funny, doesn’t take herself too seriously, and has a kind heart, is nearly impossible. It’s like finding a unicorn in the middle of an island full of mermaids while standing on a hill made up of all the gold from the lost city of Atlantis. Well, I happen to be the luckiest son-of-a-bitch on the planet, because I have found exactly that. My personal unicorn is named Ariel Bailey, but she answers to Elle.
I’ve liked Elle since we first met while she was in college. I was visiting my brother at school, and he was dating a friend of hers. She was only twenty-three then, and I had graduated a few years before. I liked her and I could’ve tried to make a move on her back then, but it seemed a little weird to me to date someone who was still in college when I was starting my first real job. We became friends, and stayed in touch after she graduated. When a position opened up at my company, I couldn’t call her fast enough.

Excerpt #2 Bachelorettes and Big Thunder Oh my!
Twenty minutes later . . .
“You guys can come back in now,” Kane says as he holds the doorway open for the party of hooligans also known as our closest friends to enter.
“Hey, girl,” Shelby says to me on a smile as walks in. Trent is right behind her wearing the most ridiculous smile I have ever seen in my life on his face. That can only mean bad things for Kane. Uh oh.
“What are you guys doing here?” I ask the room at large.
“Well, we were here to support you, obviously,” Shelby answers.
“But now that the German ho got whacked and everything’s on hold we decided to come hangout with our girl,” Daisy finishes.
“Plus, you went and got yourself hitched to that fine specimen of man meat over there,” Verna says as she hitches a thumb towards Kane and I roll my lip into my mouth and bite it to keep from laughing. By the looks of him, Trent is not exercising that level of restraint.
“Seriously,” Marla adds. “I hadn’t ever gotten a good look at his ass before. But if I was thirty years younger—”
“More like forty years younger,” Verna cackles. “And then you’d still be a cougar.”
“Thanks, asshole,” Marla replies to her best friend. “If I was forty years younger and still had two good hips, I’m not sure if I could live through that kind of pounding. But I’d love to try.”
“Here, here!” Verna agrees.
“Nana!” Trent admonishes but his sweet grandmother just shrugs her shoulders in a what-are-you-going-to-do-about-it kind of a way and joins in the laughter.
“Thanks, ladies,” Kane says sweetly. “I think.”
“Oh,” Marla replies. “It was definitely a compliment.”
My face burns bright red with mortification and I wonder if the Earth could please open up and swallow me whole right now. That would be great. I realize when Verna replies that I didn’t keep those thoughts in my head but instead shared them allowed.
“But if the Earth swallows you whole you can’t get boned like that again,” she adds not at all helpfully and everyone laughs.
“Granny!” Shelby yells.
“What?” Verna chimes back.
“You embarrassed Sophie!”
“Oh, pish posh,” she says. “Sophie knows how much we love her and besides it’s true.”
“You guys love me?” I ask in a small voice and everyone turns to me with soft faces.
“Of course we love you,” Shelby answers on a soft voice. “You’re one of us.”
“That’s right, darling girl, you’re a Dangerous Dame now and the only way out is toes first,” Marla says.

Welcome to the book blitz for THE CONTESSA’S BROOCH,the fourth book in the adult mystery series, Harmony Duprie Mysteries, by P.J. MacLayne. See below for information the book and series, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and details on her giveaway.
THE CONTESSA’S BROOCH (Harmony Duprie Mysteries #4) by P.J. MacLayne
Synopsis A firebug is stalking Oak Grove and internet researcher Harmony Duprie is on the case. It starts as a simple data analysis project for Police Chief Sorenson, but things get personal when the house she renovated is targeted.
The arsonist is in it for the glory, posting videos of his exploits on social media. So, Harmony calls for backup from her favorite computer hackers, Eli, Lando, and Scotty. Complications arise when Fiesker, a fire investigator with a chip on his shoulder, is brought in to unmask the culprit and put an end to the fires. Then there’s the mysterious emails being sent to the town’s firefighters. And who is leaving a trail of Celtic brooches behind?
Harmony finally gets a break when Jake, her ex, stumbles across information that might lead to the guilty party.
Can Eli, Lando and Scotty help Harmony track down the pyromaniac before someone gets hurt? Or, worse yet, killed?
Excerpt #2 The emergency vehicles traveled faster than the speed limit and soon were out of eyesight. It didn’t matter because the red glow in the sky led me to the fire’s location, a residential area on Broad Street.
I parked a block away. Close enough for my purposes. I knew the house because I thought about buying it to fix up before I started working at the library. Built in the ’50s, it wasn’t anything fancy, just a solid little house that had seen better days. No one lived there when Sarah, my real estate expert, took me on a walk-thru, and I prayed no one had moved in since then.
I couldn’t resist getting out and walking a little closer but staying well back from the police lines. I wanted a better view, not of the fire, but the people in the crowd. Was one of them the mystery videographer? With all the cell phones aimed at the incident, it would be impossible to isolate any one person as the guilty party. Unless they did something that made them stick out, like sneaking in under the police tape. I eliminated the ones in pajamas, rousted from the neighboring homes as a safety precaution. But everyone was behaving themselves.
The water brigade made their appearance, with cheerful smiles and those silly purple vests they wore. They stood as close as possible to the fire lines. It was like those water stations they use along the routes of marathons. Every now and then, a firefighter grabbed a bottle from them and emptied it before returning to work. The volunteers always cleaned up after themselves, so they were tolerated.
With a loud crash, the roof caved in. The shower of sparks fell as far as the police lines, and the people in front forced their way backward. Torrents of water from every available firehose streamed through the sky to quell the hotspot. Steam and ash from the fire drifted throughout the neighborhood. The stench of smoke and over-heated chemicals burned my nose and I sneezed several times.
About the Author Born and raised among the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, P.J. MacLayne still finds inspiration for her books in that landscape. She is a computer geek by day and a writer by night who currently lives in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. When she’s not in front of a computer screen, she might be found exploring the back roads of the nearby national forests and parks. In addition to the Harmony Duprie Mysteries, she is also the author of the Free Wolves adventures.
Welcome to the blog tour for CONVICTION, the second book in the adult science fiction fantasy series, A New World, by M.D. Neu. See below for information on the book and series, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and details on his giveaway.
Synopsis A little blue world, the third planet from the sun. It’s home to 7 billion people with all manner of faiths, beliefs and customs, divided by bigotry and misunderstanding, who will soon be told they are not alone in the universe. Anyone watching from the outside would pass by this fractured and tumultuous world, unless they had no other choice. Todd Landon is one of these people, living and working in a section of the world called the United States of America. His life is similar to those around him: home, family, work, friends and a husband.
On the cusp of the greatest announcement humankind has ever witnessed, Todd’s personal world is thrown into turmoil when his estranged brother shows up on his front porch with news of ships heading for Earth’s orbit. The ships are holding the Nentraee, a humanoid race who have come to Earth in need of help after fleeing the destruction of their homeworld. How will one man bridge the gap for both the Humans and Nentraee, amongst mistrust, terrorist attacks and personal loss? Will this be the start of a new age of man or will bigotry and miscommunication bring this small world to its knees and final end?
In this excerpt Todd is getting ready to meet the full nentraee Speaker’s House for the first time. It is a tense moment between Todd and Vi-Narm and a moment where Todd learns that not all the nentraee may think as highly of him as Mi’ko, the vice-speaker, and Mirtoff, the speaker general do. I hope you enjoy:
Todd finished reviewing the details on the ceremony before leaving his quarters.
Ceremony. Bullshit! It’s not a ceremony but an interview in front of the full Speaker’s House. Why didn’t Vi-Narm tell me? She made it out to be no big deal.
He rushed down the hall, his cloak, the Kap’erin, billowed out behind him. Several Nentraee stopped and bowed as he passed. He turned the corner and checked his datapad for directions. His palms were damp. His heart pounded, and not from rushing.
Vi-Narm waited for him outside large ornate doors decorated with carvings of gold and silver. The surrounding light bounced off the metals, creating shimmering circles of light on the floor.
“Todd.” Vi-Narm offered a stiff bow, her cloak shifting about her shoulders.
He should have been more diligent, not assuming that all the reports she gave him were the only ones.
We’ll learn to work together. If I survive this.
“Hello, Vi-Narm,” Todd said as he searched for a hint of a friendly greeting, but her face was stern and her lips a straight line.
“We will go in the council chamber where the Speaker’s House will be in session.” She eyed him coolly. “Once they address us, you will present yourself and answer their questions to the best of your ability. The interview process is simple, so you should have no trouble. But, do not be fooled. This will also decide if they will accept you.”
“Wait. Accept me?” Todd tried to process while catching his breath. “What happens if they don’t approve of me? Mi’ko didn’t say anything about that.”
What happens if I can’t understand their broken English and answer the question wrong? God, I hope it’s in English.
“Then he must believe you will be fine and not want to worry you.” The slightest suggestion of a smile reached her lips.
Sweat broke out on his forehead. Vi-Narm had sent him file after file last night for review. “There was so much information to review, and some of it made no sense until I researched it further, taking more time.” He frowned. “It didn’t help that you’ve been sending me a ton of information. I haven’t been able to sort through it all.”
“It’s not my job to help you sort through what I send.” Vi-Narm’s voice was calm. Cold. “I send the document that are required for all your different tasks. It is your responsibility to organize them and go through them and be prepared.”
Todd shook his head and stared at the floor. He inhaled deeply and met her eyes. “I would’ve appreciated you pointing out the information that was important for today’s events. I could’ve focused on it.”
“Perhaps you should organize your time better, or is that a failing of your character?”
“It was in the report I send to you this morning,” she interrupted. “You did read it? Did you not?”
“Today? This morning? As in, while I was still in bed, or while I was getting ready for this interview?”
Or when I was on the toilet?
Trying not to sound as pissed as he felt, he checked his pocket watch. Since getting it, he kept it with him as a good-luck piece. Now, more than ever, he needed the luck.
“Vi-Narm, how could you send it this morning? I didn’t have a chance—you made it sound like this was only my welcome ceremony. That was my impression from… I didn’t have a chance to…”
She hates me. That’s why she’s doing this. She hates me and is determined for me to fail.
He saw a hint of a smile, and he was sure there was a brief twinkle in her eyes.
God, she’s a total bitch. With luck, she’ll trip and fall on her way into the chamber. That might loosen the stick up her ass.
He took a breath and held back the frown that was stalking his face. “I’ll do my best.”
She watched the chamber doors open. “Let us hope Mi’ko’s faith in you is well placed.”
The soft ticking of his watch reminded him why he was here.

Synopsis Their prom night ended in a jail cell with forty of their closest friends. But that’s hardly the worst thing that happened to them…
When the principal announces prom is canceled this year, senior Riley Hart is determined to save it. Armed with little more than her own enthusiasm, she ends up working closely with Owen Locklear, who is more than completely off-limits. Because he’s the boyfriend of her ex-BFF, Catherine Reed. Still, Owen knows Riley better than almost anyone, and his charming ideas for turning the prom upside-down and backward win Riley over.
Catherine is willing to join Owen and Riley on the prom committee, but only because her legacy as prom queen is at stake. She’s already suffocating under the weight of her parents’ expectations for after senior year, and compared to that, ensuring prom happens should be easy. At least until everything starts to go wrong.
First they lose their deposit. Then they book a band full of octogenarians. And lose their venue… Twice.
Riley will have an unforgettable teenage experience, damn it, if it’s the last thing she does…
RILEY – TWO MONTHS UNTIL PROM
I turn the corner and glance over my shoulder, hoping to catch another glimpse of Owen’s familiar dark brown hair poking above the crowd. When I recognize his spiky-messy style, my breath catches in my chest. With a wave to Catherine, he breaks away and trails behind me, leaving half a hallway between us. I veer off into an empty stairwell and wait.
Eventually, he makes his appearance, towering over me in the cramped space. Although he’s not as big as the basketball players, Owen stands at least six inches taller than me, which means I’m always looking up at him when we cross paths in school. We met during recess on the first day of kindergarten, when we decided to join up with Catherine and fight the imaginary monsters hiding under the playground equipment. Years later, Catherine has found other things to do with her free time, but Owen and I still fight monsters together—virtual ones, in our favorite video game.
“Haven’t caught up with you on Q-Chat lately,” he says, breaking into his familiar wide smile, one that could take down the entire cheerleading squad. Though it’s a struggle, I manage to remain upright. But just barely.
“Sorry, but I’ve been busy.” I speak too fast and nearly drop the bag of tech club pamphlets I printed last night. Talking to Owen in real life always seems to throw me off. It’s much easier to pretend I don’t have a crush on him when we’re battling aliens online.
Faking disappointment, he shakes his head. “Priorities, Riley. Immortal Quest released an update yesterday with an all-new army of zombies. They suck your life force away, and I really need your shields for protection.” His blue eyes brighten as he steps closer. “C’mon, Evil Skater Girl.”
I raise my finger to my lips. “Shhh! We promised never to call each other by our Quest names in school!” No one needs to know about my secret virtual superhero persona. At eighteen, I’m practically a grandma in the Immortal Quest world.
“Yeah, you’re right.” He backs away, darting his eyes toward the hallway, probably checking for his girlfriend. “Just…log on once in a while, okay? Keep me company.”
“Doesn’t Catherine do enough of that?” The words rush from my mouth before I think about them. I really don’t want to know what he and Catherine do when they’re alone together, but for some reason I can’t resist bringing her up, if only to remind myself that he’s in love with the girl who tossed me aside without a second thought way back in middle school.
Owen flashes his smile again. “No one does it like you, ESG.” He hikes his backpack higher on his shoulder and turns to go. Before I call him out on the name thing again, he says, “By the way, did you hear anything about prom being canceled?”
“What? Is that even possible?”
He breaks out in a small smile. “According to Cat, it is.” His smile falters before he picks it back up. “So, you haven’t heard anything?”
“No, but if I do, I’ll let you know.”
With a wave, he ducks around the corner and out of sight. I count to ten before continuing on to my locker.
