I had one goal.
Win an Olympic Medal.
Winning the Ladies Figure Skating Olympic Gold Medal should be my only focus, but my life has other plans for me. My father, the U. S. Senator, and my Stepmonster like to remind me that my role in our family comes with great expectations — and even greater responsibility.
Translation: Marry a man that will make them even more prestigious and powerful.
But that’s not my plan.
I have one last chance to prove myself.
And now, on top of everything else, I have to aid the sexy as sin Detective Kane F**king Green in finding the person who killed my friend.
My name is Sophia Eleonore Dubois, and holy mother of Dorothy Hamill, my life just got complicated. . .
“Sit your fine asses down right now!” Verna barks.
And they do.
“We have called you all here for an important announcement!” she yells. “Not for you two assclowns to tear up this restaurant—that we happen to like—because you’re a bunch of whining babies.”
“Yes, ma’am,” they both say, duly chagrined.
“What announcement would that be?” I say.
“I’m glad you asked,” Marla says as she drops a huge duffel bag onto the table. It’s way too big for her to be hauling around, but she lifts it with ease.
“We’ve decided to take on a new venture,” Verna adds.
“Granny—” Shelby warns.
“Nana,” Trent adds, “I thought we agreed no more crime-fighting.”
“And no more danger,” Shelby finishes his thoughts.
“We did,” Marla says.
“And we still do,” Verna clarifies. “But we felt . . .”
“Bored,” Marla says matter-of-factly. “We were bored.”
“And now we’re business owners!” Verna cheers. “Aren’t you all excited?”
“Yeah, sure,” Trent says, not thinking much of it.
“Well, aren’t you going to ask us what we’re selling?” Marla asks, dejected.
“I was just getting around to that,” Shelby says as the narrowed slits of her eyes are aimed directly at Trent.
Okay, what’s going on here?
“We’re your newest home Pleasure Party consultants!” they cheer.
Shelby chokes on her water.
“Don’t worry. We’re sending everyone home with samples,” Marla says with a smile.
“I still don’t understand,” I say. Kane just laughs from behind me like a loon.
“Yeah, me either,” Trent says.
“It means we are here to help you with all of your . . . um . . . personal—”
“Don’t finish that thought,” Shelby growls.
“Needs,” Verna says with a laugh and sticks her tongue out at Shelby.
“That’s right. We’ve got your vibrators, your dildos, your anal plugs and beads, and a really cool swing. I bet that swing could really liven things up with Harold,” Marla shares.
“I don’t think I need that stuff,” I mumble.
“I don’t know, babe. I’ve got some great ideas,” Kane whispers in my ear.
“But wait, there’s more!” Verna cheers excitedly.
“Jesus Fucking Christ, I don’t think I can handle more,” Trent groans with his face buried in Shelby’s hair.
Kane just laughs at his friend’s misery.
“Check out Big Thunder!” they cry out as they set the mother of all rubber cocks on the table for God and all to see.
“Holy shit!” Kane laughs.
“What is that monster?” I croak.
“Clearly, Kane hasn’t given her the business,” Daisy comments. “Maybe you should take Big Thunder for a test-drive.”
I’m shaking my head, but I don’t need to because Kane is starting to shout as Trent laughs like a hyena. This whole luncheon has really derailed.
