Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing fellow author and friend, Randi Cooley Wilson, about her new book, Restraint and her writing process. Be sure to read all the way to the bottom to find out more about her book and her giveaway.

Q: How would you describe your style? And has it evolved with your writing?
RCW: I’m a big fan of both the descriptive and narrative writing styles. I love to be able to build worlds and take the reader on a journey that they could only dream about. In the paranormal romance genre that really means allowing the author to explore worlds and character development through description and narration. I tend to apply both to my writing style. As I continue to create these novels, I’m starting to pull back a bit on heavy descriptive world building in order to allow the reader to put their own spin on it.

Q: You write New Adult fiction, what are some of your favorite books you read when you were a new adult?
RCW: Eep, this is a hard question and it totally ages me – lol. New adult was not a category that existed when I was a new adult. In high school, I loved The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Euginides, The Babysitters Club Series by Ann M Martin was pretty popular, and I loved Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. I have to admit, most of what I read during what is considered new adult now, had to do with college texts. I was obsessed with John Milton’s Paradise Lost, my love of all things Shakespeare also rolled over to my new adult early years as did my ongoing love affair with anything Jane Austen.

Q: If you could have any author, living or dead, mentor you for a week, who would you choose?
RCW: William Shakespeare. Without doubt. I would love to be able to sit and discuss his elaborate use of metaphors, rhetoric and the beautiful and natural way he wrote great dramatics. In my opinion, Shakespeare changed the view of dramatic writing, characterisation, plot development through use of language and people’s overall view of romance as a worthy topic of literature.

Q: What, if anything, do you have in common with Eve?
RCW: Eve and I are extremely different. However, there are a few things we share. We’re both stubborn, to a fault. She and I both don’t take what people say at face value, we push for answers. I think we’re both strong, independent women who are fiercely loyal to friends, family and those we love.

Q: If your editor told you that you had to cut one of your characters, which one would you choose?
RCW: CUT A CHARACTER?!? What?!? I couldn’t. They’re like my children. Each character is a small piece of me, good or bad. Instead, I would probably fight to keep the character. To which Kris, my lovely editor would tell me to shut it and then she would decide and pull the trigger (or in this case, hit the delete button) because she is fantastic that way and just gets me.
