RIDGE (Frat House Confessions #1) by Bethany Lopez
Synopsis She has a broken heart and revenge on her mind…
Last year Karrie was riding high. She had a boyfriend she loved, a softball scholarship, and the best roommate a girl could have. When it turned out her man was a lying, cheating ballsack, she may have gone off the rails a bit. Now, it’s a new year and Karrie’s ready to build herself back up and move on to bigger and better things. Still, a little revenge would go a long way in helping the healing process.
He’s got a plan for revenge that will suit them both…
Ridge is used to being the BMOC. Sergeant of Arms of his frat and the ability to land any chick within snapping distance has made life pretty easy for him. His home life is another story. He and his brothers are in the middle of a battle between his socialite mother and asshole father. Ridge is looking for a stand-in to placate his mother and her matchmaking ways, and he has a feeling he’s just met the girl he can perfectly mold.
This makeover has nothing to do with love and everything to do with Karrie and Ridge using each other to get what they want. What starts as a ruse soon becomes an attraction they cannot deny. When it’s all said and done, they’ll both have more to confess than a need for revenge.

Today is release day for IT’S A GHOST’S LIFE, the fifth book in the adult cozy mystery series, Murder by Design, by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Erin McCarthy. See below for information on the book, buy links, and an exclusive excerpt.
IT’S A GHOST’S LIFE (Murder by Design #5) by Erin McCarthy
Synopsis When the bitterly cold days of January descend on Cleveland, Bailey Burke finds her “Put It Where?” home staging business is as frozen as her toes. The only bright spot is the return of her friend Ryan after his, ahem, eviction from heaven. Especially since no other dead people seem to be harassing her in recent weeks.
Yet when her grandmother’s bingo buddy turns up frozen solid in a stranger’s back yard, Bailey is the only one who finds the death suspicious. Bailey knows fashion and she knows Vera, a one-time film star, would not be caught dead, literally, in a stained nightgown and cheetah-print boots. Determined it prove it is homicide and not dementia, she enlists Ryan’s help to investigate, despite his ghostly limitations.
This time Bailey is ready to play it smart, solve the crime, have the bad guy do the time… only all is fair game when it comes to eccentric backstabbing biddies at bingo.
A full-length novel in the hilarious Murder By Design series…
Excerpt Vera used her phone way more than Grandma Burke. She had social media accounts where she followed fashion and Old Hollywood accounts. She had TMZ. Rent the Runway. Images of sexy men reading books. She had a reading app with hundreds of books on it, from classics to romance novels to modern literature like The Kite Runner.
Her texts were from her friends and her niece, Eva. A man I assumed was her nephew. A couple of guys who were clearly flirting with her. I scrolled through the thread with the man named “Colin” and let out a startled yelp. Right there in their conversation going back and forth, was a dick pic. “Dang, Vera.” I quickly scrolled past it, then out of pure curiosity went back because it didn’t look like a selfie from a ninety-year-old man.
They say that men don’t age there the way they do elsewhere but even so… the thighs appeared to be a man in his prime. I suddenly felt like a naughty schoolgirl. Vera might be a cougar, and that was all well and good, but I had a boyfriend.
“Moving on, Bailey.” I closed that thread a heartbeat after I should have, and felt guilty as all get-out for that.
Then I found a thread with a man named Stanley.
It appeared he had come into town and had made plans to see her Friday night.
So lovely to see you again, she’d written at midnight on Friday.
Interesting. I wonder if he had any clue she had passed away?
I needed to call him and ask some questions but I needed to work up the courage to do that.
Dashing back downstairs I snagged a crystal flute from her dining room hutch, and using a towel from the kitchen, opened the champagne. I took the bottle and the glass upstairs and poured in Vera’s bedroom.
“To you, Vera,” I said, glancing around her inner sanctuary. “You were a cool chick who lived life to the fullest. May you rest in peace, dahlin’.”
I half-expected her to answer me. Maybe I was hoping she would. But the room remained silent. Vera had a record player on an etagere in the corner and I opened it to see what record was on it. Glenn Miller. I turned it on, not wanting to snoop in silence.
Sipping champagne, I went through Vera’s closet, drooling over the vintage pieces nestled up against the modern designers. Nothing was cheap. There were classic, timeless pieces, then funky and fun accessories. She had mastered the art of dressing in well-made basics, then adding shoes, jewelry, a turban, or a funky shawl to change up her look.
Her shoes were to die for.
I gave a laugh of horror in the closet at that thought. To die for. Yikes.
There were drawers lined with felt that had a drool-worthy collection of brooches, bracelets, rings, and necklaces. She even had hairpins that I suspected were from the 1930s. I did notice what looked like some odd empty spots in a few drawers and I wondered how closely Pam had inspected the collection. Or if Pam had swiped a few items on her way out.
There were four stacks of hat boxes, which was glorious.
Beside them were photo boxes. Inside I found newspaper clippings from seventy-five years earlier.
Miss Vera Rosenbaum, 21, model with the House of Chanel, is engaged to legendary film star, Frank Torro, 37. Nuptials to be held at the private home of Humphrey Bogart in a simple ceremony, in accordance with wartime sacrifice.
There was an engagement photo where Vera looked way older than she actually was at the time. Dressed in a suit with shoulder pads, she looked glamourous as hell. Her lips were dark, eyebrows dramatic, hair perfectly curled. Her fiancé was what I would call dapper but not particularly handsome. He was glancing affectionately down at her. On the other hand, she was staring boldly into the camera, sensual and full of life.
“Age is a funny thing, Vera, isn’t it?” I said out loud in the closet, draining my glass.
The box was full of old photos. Wedding photos of Vera at different ages. Photo shoots. A three-legged race on the lawn of a mansion, palm trees in the background. Runners laughing as they held on to each other.
Man, I was having a melancholy day.
There were love letters in the box too. Passionate notes from Vera’s third husband, things like “Even on the darkest day, you are the sun that warms my soul.”
Now it’s all text messages.
I would fall over if Marner wrote me a note.
There was also a nasty note from a woman that Vera had kept, which I found fascinating.
It was a woman named June calling Vera a homewrecking whore.
“Why would you save this?” I murmured.
And was June still alive? Had she gotten her final revenge on Vera? That seemed unlikely. She was probably ninety herself.
The record playing cut off suddenly.
I jumped, dropping the letter from angry June.
My heart started racing.
It didn’t sound like the record had ended on its own. It had cut off mid-song.
Could Vera do that?
Then I realized I heard footsteps.
Crawling on my belly, I reached the closet door and tried to ease it closed so as not to alert the intruder.
It was too late. I was on my stomach, staring at Italian loafers.

Today is release day for FIGHTING FOR YOU, the fifth book in the adult contemporary romance series, Connor Family, by USA Today bestselling author, Layla Hagen. See below for information on the book and series, buy links, and an exclusive excerpt.
FIGHTING FOR YOU (Connor Family #5) by Layla Hagen
Synopsis Jace Connor has received many titles in his career, and enjoyed them all. Although, he’s working on changing the last one. There’s more to Jace than the media portrays—a man who loves his tight-knit family, being his nieces’ and nephews’ favorite uncle.
The reformed party-boy is now steering clear of anything that could blemish his reputation. But when the coach’s gorgeous daughter is hired on as the team’s new sponsorship manager, keeping on the straight and narrow becomes impossible. Her warm and bubbly personality coupled with her sexy-as-sin body makes her irresistible.
Brooke Derringer wants to prove to everyone that she wasn’t hired due to her personal connections. She’s determined to keep things strictly business and focus only on work. She learned the hard way that the office isn’t the place to make friends.
But a certain smoking hot–and bossy–soccer player is determined to change her mind. Surprising her with clandestine dinners and late-night gym sessions, Jace is inescapable.
For the first time in his life, Jace wants more. He wants the whole package…with the one woman he can’t have. But Jace doesn’t let that deter him. He’s determined to fight for her. And he will.
Excerpt Stand-up comedians could be hit or miss. Half an hour into the show, this turned out to
be such a miss that I wondered if we’d accidentally walked into a rehearsal. I glanced at Brooke from time to time, searching for signals that she was just as bored, but her gaze was glued to the stage. I’d almost resigned myself to two hours of hellish boredom when Brooke leaned over the small table. I immediately leaned in too.
“Jace… I hope I’m not offending you, but this is terrible.”
“Thank fuck. I thought I was the only one so bored I wanted to burst my eardrums so I couldn’t hear him. How about we get out of here?”
The room was semidark as we made our way out. A few viewers huffed with annoyance because we obstructed their view. I slung my arm around Brooke’s waist, leading her through the room. She started laughing the second we were out on the street.
“Oh, that was so bad,” she said. “So. So bad.”
“Awful. And I thought you liked it. Was mentally preparing myself to sit through two hours of torture.”
Brooke tilted her head. “You really would have done that if I’d liked it? Awww… you really are a good friend.”
No, I wasn’t. I was the worst. I moved my arm from her waist to her shoulders, squeezing them lightly. She shivered despite the warm mid-August evening. I pulled her even closer, speaking against her temple.
“Let’s do something else, Brooke. I don’t want this evening to end so fast.”
“Me neither. Hmm… I think we need to watch something good to wash this crap out of our brain.”
“We could go to a movie, but I don’t know what’s playing.”
“I do. Looked over the new releases yesterday. Nothing stood out to me. Hey, I have an idea. Let’s go to my place. We can watch something on Netflix, or one of my DVDs, and I can make us popcorn.”
I wanted to spend time with Brooke more than anything else, but if we were alone… I wasn’t strong enough not to make a move on her.
She was too alluring. Even now, I was fighting with all I had against the urge to cup her cheek and tilt her head just right so I had access to her mouth. I’d pulled her too close, but I’d be damned if I wanted to let go. She watched me with wide, happy eyes. I just couldn’t say no.

WILD CRAZY HEARTS (The Bradens and Montgomerys #4) by Melissa Foster
Synopsis Discover the magic of New York Times bestseller Melissa Foster’s writing, and see why millions of readers have fallen in love with the Bradens.
In WILD, CRAZY HEARTS…
Brindle Montgomery and Trace Jericho have been close friends forever and on-again off-again lovers for years. As rebellious as they are stubborn, they’re both perfectly happy with their no-strings-attached hookups. But when Brindle returns from a trip to Paris with a baby bump, it sends Trace’s wild, crazy heart into a frenzy–and Brindle is left wondering if she’s made the biggest mistake of her life.
The Bradens & Montgomerys are part of New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Melissa Foster’s Love in Bloom big-family romance collection. Love in Bloom novels feature alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to readers who enjoy contemporary romance and women’s fiction. These novels are written to stand alone or may be enjoyed as part of the larger series, so dive right into this fun, sexy romance.
Excerpt #1 There were certain benefits to being the youngest girl in a family with seven children, such as the fact that by the time Brindle Montgomery could walk, her older siblings had already done so much crazy, stupid shit, nothing surprised their parents. When Brindle hit her teens, Sable—the third oldest, and until Brindle had come along, the most rebellious—had left no troublesome stone unturned. Brindle had always done as she pleased, and she believed in living life to the fullest. That was why, when she scheduled a six-week trip to Paris, no one had given it a second thought. Finding out she was pregnant a week after arriving had complicated things, and she’d extended her stay to try to figure out her life. Though she hadn’t told her family why she was staying, they weren’t surprised by her change of plans. Now here she was, three and a half months later, counting on those skewed expectations. She didn’t think her pregnancy would come as too big of a shock to anyone. Well, anyone other than her on-again off-again boyfriend of a dozen years, Trace Jericho.
As she stepped from her car after the longest travel day ever, she began questioning her decision to come straight from the airport to the barn bash the Jerichos threw every year for Halloween. But it was rare to get all of her siblings in the same place at the same time. They were all there for the event, as was Trace, which meant she could deliver her news in one fell swoop. She’d convinced herself they’d rally around her, supporting her decision and taking it all in stride.
Now she called bullshit on all of that.
But her situation wasn’t going to change, and she needed to face her future head-on. She straightened her spine, shoved her keys in her coat pocket, and headed across the field toward the barn.
Children darted around adults, who were busy mingling. Just beyond, strings of black and orange lights illuminated the massive barn, which was decorated with scarecrows, ghosts, ghouls, and gauzy fake spiderwebs. It was a typical Oak Falls affair, one that Brindle usually looked forward to. But as she weaved through the crowd, her thoughts turned to Trace and the reason she’d gone away in the first place. She’d loved him for so long, she couldn’t think clearly when she was around him, and she was at a point where her feelings had grown so big, she needed to know if they were real. But their relationship was complicated, with as much turmoil as pleasure. And oh, what pleasure Trace Jericho could bring! But relationship wasn’t the best definition of what they had, since neither one had ever wanted a long-term commitment.

Excerpt “I warned you I could not protect you.” The boy winced as she bent forward to his ear. “So, stay close and you may just survive.”
Caim paused. He’d been mistaken. This wasn’t weakness. This wasn’t naivety. She was simply certain, absolutely certain, that she was in no danger here.
That she’d made it five minutes without any weapon had surprised him. Now, it didn’t.
Tired and spent as she was, her every move was fluid and precise. A Gaian darkling came from the side with a blade; she tilted her pelvis forward, and the blade hit air. She reached for the attacker’s hand and pushed it back to his skull, all the while avoiding another hit on her left shoulder.
She moved like water.
If she’d had a sword in her hand, Caim knew she could have made short work of all the prisoners, and most of the lords, no doubt. But she seemed content to let them murder each other, simply defending herself—and the boy holding on to her like the lifeline she was.
His lips parted and a delighted laugh escaped him. He laughed like a child, with enchantment, astounding himself and anyone who was paying attention to him.
She didn’t spare the boy another glance, but she let him stick to her. Grace and indifference. She was cruel. Cruel, untouchable, and beautiful.
They were supposed to watch slaves butcher each other. Instead, they were graced with a dance worthy of a fairy queen.

Synopsis Twenty-eight-year-old Lilly Rains would settle for – no, embrace – the idea of Purgatory as atonement for her sins. The newly assigned parish priest has conjured less than righteous thoughts, forcing Lilly to question her sanity for being attracted to a man of the cloth and more importantly, whether she can perform her job as the principal of St. Robert’s Catholic School.
But the handsome and mysterious priest is not what he seems. He has been sent to retrieve Lilly’s wavering soul, preying on a faith that has been rattled by her past. But where there is darkness, there must also be light and God has decided it is time to intervene. A Guardian has been assigned to protect Lilly from the evil surrounding her. However, when the priest and the Guardian begin to pursue her for their own purposes, Lilly is left with an impossible decision.
Will she choose the forbidden man she loves or the Guardian who will be eternally devoted to her?
Lilly knew that she would see him eventually, but she had hoped it would have been in public, where she could disappear into the fold and not have to address what had happened between them. But in the privacy of her office, with not another soul in earshot, she found herself in a state of panic.
“William, I can’t do this now.” She haphazardly gathered the papers on her desk and made a piss-poor pile. “I was just about to leave.” She wasn’t lying. She did need to stop off at the store on her way home and purchase a piece of luggage for her trip to Ireland.
“Where are you going?”
He moved closer.
Lilly stood and flicked off the lamp on her desk, giving him the clear message that she was leaving. The last of the daylight illuminated the room just enough to safely make it out of her office without bumping into her desk, or worse… him. “To the store. I leave for Ireland tomorrow. I have to pick up a few things for the trip.”
“Ireland?” He genuinely sounded surprised.
“Yes. I emailed the faculty this morning that Thomas Conley and I would be gone for a few days to attend Father Keegan’s burial. I know I included you on that email.”
He took another step closer. “You’re traveling to Ireland together?”
Lilly didn’t miss the inflection in his voice. His tone was one of disgust. Lilly rounded her desk. She positioned herself directly in front of him and crossed her arms over her breasts. “Yes. Is that a problem?”
His jaw clenched. “I don’t like the way he looks at you.”
“Why do you care, William? It’s not like you want me for yourself.”
His sudden movement was barely detectable and she was up against the wall, his arousal pressed against her core. “You don’t think I want you? I can still taste you on my tongue.” His breathing was labored and uneven as he crushed his lips against hers.
She knew that she should pull away, but his scent lured her in and she deepened the kiss. The guttural groan that escaped him triggered an animalistic response within her and she grabbed him by the hair, matching his intense desire. She felt his hand slip beneath her skirt and her thighs shamelessly parted. His fingers found her drenched panties, where her clit throbbed, and she pressed against him to gain friction. Her body was wound so tight. She would come easily, with just a few strokes of his fingertips. “You’re what I want… what I can’t stop thinking about,” he said. His head fell forward until it rested against hers. His voice sounded…apologetic.
Any second he would repel himself away from her when he came to his senses and remembered his vow. And she couldn’t go through that again and witness the moment he regretted ever touching her.
Lilly escaped his grasp… barely and breathlessly… and retreated to the door. “Like I said, I can’t do this. Start looking for a new principal, William.”
“You think leaving this school will make me stop wanting you?” he asked.
Lilly’s hand was on the doorknob. “You don’t understand. Your vow… the threat of some higher power striking me down on the spot… both reasons should deter me.” Despite her better judgment, she turned and faced him. The lust in his eyes crippled her. “But they don’t. And next time… I won’t be strong enough to stop you from giving me what I want.” He peered at her beneath his long lashes. His fists were clenched at his sides. And the evidence of his arousal persisted. Lilly bit her lip.
His breathing hitched and she knew she needed to leave. She would never be able to share him. She wouldn’t be competing with another woman, but she would never have all of him. Though he may physically succumb to her, his devotion would always be to the Church. He would soon learn to resent her as the guilt mounted each and every time he touched her. And she wasn’t willing to stick around and watch his conscience take hold of him.
“You’ll have my resignation in your inbox by the time I get back.”
“I don’t want you to leave. This is where you belong.”
“No, not anymore. But for the students’ sakes I’ll stay long enough for you to find an appropriate replacement.” She opened the door and was seconds from escaping when she felt him at her heels.
“I don’t want you to leave,” he repeated. He was dangerously close. The warmth of his breath brushed against the back of her neck, causing her to shiver.
“I don’t care what you want.” Her eyes filled with tears and she fought like hell not to let the floodgates open. “I wish I never kissed you… touched you,” she said. “Because now I know what I’ll be missing.” The first tear crept down her cheek. She hastily brushed it away and fled her office.

Of honor for British football.

THE MARK OF THE FALLEN FLAME (Weapon of Fire and Ash #1) by Brittany Matsen
Synopsis Two days before the start of senior year, Emma Duvall is attacked by creatures that hunt from the shadows. A hidden world that exists within her own, explodes around her as she is faced with menacing creatures of the deep, ugly venomous creatures with voices so beautiful they bring humans to their knees, and a wicked beast with eyes the color of blood.
When she touches them, their dark powers flow into her, awakening a hunger in her that had laid dormant for seventeen years. The darkness is seductive when it deals in rage. And rage is exactly what she needs to survive.
Not only must she keep her powers a secret, she must also contend with the new boy in school. He is both dangerous and unnaturally handsome, drawing her in like a magnet. What she can’t explain is why being close to him causes her physical pain.
And those that hunt the monsters of the night—the Giborim—sworn to protect the humans, find that Emma may be just as monstrous. Except the striking, centuries-old, Blaze, who seeks revenge for the mother and sister he lost. Emma will do anything to impress him and earn his trust. Including using herself as bait to ensnare the final piece of Blaze’s vengeance.
War between the two races is looming on the horizon as the wicked creatures of nightmares seek to enslave humankind. When Emma is thrown in the middle as the ultimate weapon, she must allow herself to be wielded…just long enough to save the world.
For when the raging fires of her wrath are unleashed, the world with be painted in the ashes of her enemies.
Excerpt: When Emma and Rowek were alone again, her gaze snapped back to his. He watched her, his lips tugging to the side. His eyes were brighter, the golden hue shining through. Like a flame doused with gasoline.
“What’s one thing you’d like to know about me?”
Emma thought for a moment. “What would happen if I touched you again.”
His expression burned hotter as a wicked grin spread his lips. The invisible cord that drew her to him pulled tight, and she surrendered to it. A tendril of heat licked through her. Any fear or hesitation on her part was gone. She slid her hand across the table, lightly brushing her finger over the top of his hand. A spark crackled above their skin. She started, but she didn’t withdraw her hand. Rowek didn’t seem at all surprised, he just watched her.
Her fingertips trailed up the back of his hand, and his eyes flared in response. Gently, as if trying not to startle her, his hand grabbed hers. A jolt went through her, but it wasn’t power. It was a heady sensation to be touched by him.
She let him pull her to her feet. Like she was in a trance, she let him guide her. His hands cupped her hips, and her heart galloped wildly. With little effort, he tugged her down onto him, her dress curling up her thighs as she straddled his lap. A fire stirred inside, every inch of her aware. Her hands ran up his chest, under the dark suit jacket. She could feel the toned muscle hidden beneath as her fingers brushed up to his tie and pulled it loose.
“What is your tattoo of?” Her voice was like silk.
“I’d show you all of it, but I’d have to take my shirt off.” His hot breath tickled her neck.
She worked the first button open as his lips brushed against her skin, setting her on fire. Her fingers stilled, eyes fluttered closed, letting his touch consume her. Kisses trailed up her neck, and she shivered. His lips touched her jaw bone with feather-light delicacy.
“Is it a symbol?” she rasped, fighting to remain in control.
He made a noise in the back of his throat that sounded almost feral. Like he didn’t want to stop kissing her.
“Yes,” he replied, voice gruff.
Then he kissed her.

LAYBACK (Murder on Ice Mysteries #2) by Jennifer Rebecca
Synopsis Not too long ago, I had one goal: Win an Olympic Gold Medal but an injury took me out of the running for the Ladies Figure Skating competition at the last Olympic Games. Nancy Kerrigan was grandfathered in. I was not.
Translation: I was disqualified. DQ’d. I was out in the cold on my keister.
But when an offer to fill a spot on a pairs team lands in my lap, I take it. It seems like an answered prayer—that is until a competitor is found brutally murdered in her room at the competitor’s village and my partner is the number one suspect.
I’m going to have to take matters into my own hands. Again. Sweet Kristi Yamaguchi, save me from overly cocky men.
My name is Sophia Eleonore Dubois and holy mother of Dorothy Hamill my life is still complicated . . .
Excerpt My phone bounces around on the nightstand as it softly plays Britney Spears. It’s time to work, bitch. And this morning I have a practice skate with Luc. We have been working so hard these past few weeks and things are finally coming together. I am so thankful for this opportunity that I don’t want to let Luc and our coaches down so I try and get to the rink extra early so that I am warmed up and ready to go. I don’t want any of them waiting on me.
I look back over my shoulder to where Kane is sleeping. His eyes are still closed, and his breaths come evenly. Good, he’s still asleep and after last night’s revelations, I don’t want to wake him up. We are finally in a good place again and I’m not going to throw Luc in his face the very next day. I’m not going to be the one to rock the boat this time.
I gently lift the covers and cautiously slide out from underneath them. If I was focused on anything other than not waking Kane up, I would have noticed that he, and other parts of his anatomy, were very much awake long before his arm tightens around my waist and hauls me back into the bed.
“Eeek!” I squeal as he surprises me.
“Where are you going, Tink?” Kane rasps, his voice still husky with sleep and other things. “I don’t know if I’m ready to let you leave this bed yet.”
“Well, you don’t have a choice because I have an early practice this morning,” I inform him with a little softness in my voice so that he knows that I am not choosing the rink over him. “But I’ll be back later.”
Kane lets go of me and I slide out of bed and start pulling clothing that I had left here before we stopped speaking from drawers. I notice that Kane is flinging the covers back and pushing up from the bed to stand nude in all his morning glory—and I do mean glory—which I see prominently when he turns to the side before facing away again. His firm backside is turned towards me and I watch the muscles in his body play as he stretches out.
“Wh-what are you doing?” I ask before I give my brain a chance to catch up with my mouth. I should probably get some coffee in me before I sign my life away.
“Getting up,” he says with a smirk playing about his mouth.
“I . . . uhh . . . I see that,” I mumble as I stare at his erection. I can’t help it. It’s like there’s a sexual tractor beam that draws my eyes directly to his long, hard cock.
“My eyes are up here, baby,” he says with a chuckle and my eyes snap up to his. “I meant that I was getting out of bed to go with you.”
“Oh . . .” Well, that’s not at all embarrassing. Kane has the ability to wipe all thought from my brain with a set of glutes that I know for a fact that I can bounce a quarter off of them because I have already tried.
I lose my train of thought as I watch Kane pull a pair of lighter wash jeans out of a drawer and slide them up his legs without underpants. They way that the smooth material molds to his muscular legs and . . . other assets shows how well-worn they are. Not to mention spending the day knowing that there is nothing standing in between my hand and what I so desperately want but a few buttons and some well worn material is going to play havoc in my mind all morning. He pulls a white t-shirt over his head then grabs a gray hoodie and tosses it on the bed before grabbing a pair of socks and running shoes.
“Sophie?” he calls my name making me snap to attention.
“What?” I ask still distracted by the thought of him going commando. I wonder if I would be able to tell if he was even a little bit hard because the material is so soft and pliable. If I was paying more attention to what I was trying not to pay attention to I would definitely have my answer.
“You were staring . . .” he trails off in explanation.
“Huh?” I slow blink once . . . twice . . . three times to clear the fog from my brain but all I can see is Kane’s huge . . . uhh . . .
“You’re staring.” He smirks. “And if you keep on staring at me like that Tink we’re going to be about an hour late.” That snaps me back into consciousness.
“No!” I shout as he prowls closer. “We don’t have time.”
“I’ll be quick,” he hums as he pushes me back onto the bed and somehow scooping up the shirt of his that I slept in last night and pulling it over my head to throw down to the floor like the practiced sex magician that he is—leaving me naked.
“How quick?” I ask before I can stop my mouth from asking what my brain knows that it shouldn’t. I don’t have time to play with Kane. I can’t be late for practice.
“Fast,” Kane says as he flicks open the buttons on those jeans that he wears all too well and lets his hard length spring free. He leans down over me. And I was going to be early anyways, now I’ll just be on time. That’s good enough. I can afford to be fast with Kane.
“Not too fast,” I complain.
“No, baby. Not too fast,” he says just before he crashes his mouth down on mine and slides deep inside me. Kane hits that spot that makes my eyes roll back in my head and all rational thought goes right out the window.

Excerpt Alexandra slides the balcony door open. The cool night air drifts in and blows the curtains in a ripple. She steps out, grabs the rails, and turns her head skyward. Her green dress and the hair down her back float like the curtains. I follow Alexandra’s footprints in my rug out into the night…and her.
I slide my hands over her shoulders and slowly down her arms. “Would you tell me what you’re thinking? Are you regretting coming up here?”
Her head lowers. “No. Not even a little.”
I know she has more to say, so I let the noise of the city fill the silence between us until she continues. “I had a dream once I never told you about. I had a conversation with Lainey. It was in a place just like this.”
That admission hits my heart in an unexpected way. “You did?”
“Julian, when we were in Savannah, it was not the time to talk about her or ask questions unless you did. I know some of the loss you feel. I watched my dad. I felt things myself. The things that were most important to me then, and still are now, are that you are ready and that you know I would never, and will never, try to take her place. I want you to feel like you can share her with me. Knowing her will only allow me to know you better.
“I’ve thought that for a long time. So, much like I talked to my mother at the Falls, I talked to her in my alone time in Savannah. Being here, now, closes that chapter for me. I knew I would know if it wasn’t right the minute I stepped in here. My anxiety is gone.” She turns her head, so her chin touches her right shoulder. “I can breathe.”

Synopsis Dexter We became close friends in college. When Sinclair returns home to Dallas after two years in New York, I introduce her to my best friend Cole. The good-looking playboy ballplayer is the perfect kind of guy for the woman I’m sure would never be interested in me…even if seeing them together breaks my heart.
Sinclair. He was the nerdy PhD candidate. I was the cheerleader. We made unlikely friends. Moving back home after two years away, he looks hotter than ever. When I start dating his ballplayer best friend, things get complicated. He doesn’t see me as girlfriend material…but I can’t get him, or my feelings for him, out of my head.
Excerpt “She’s so fucking pretty,” Cole says, lolling his head back and forth against the headrest of my Tesla.
The phrase irritates the crap out of me. I feel like I want to punch him. Not that I’ve ever punched anyone, but that’s what this feels like—like I want to commit violence against my friend for using such a pedestrian description for a creature as indescribably spectacular as Clair.
“I don’t know though, man. She said she’d go out with me, but I’m not really sure she likes me.” Cole shakes his head. “It makes me kinda nervous. Usually, girls love me.” He turns to me and wriggles his eyebrows. “I mean, they really love me. It’s just…I don’t know. She’s different.”
“She is different. She’s intelligent, kind, inquisitive, funny…She’s definitely not like anyone else I know.” My response is a knee-jerk reaction in defense of the woman that holds so much of my heart. I immediately regret it saying these things, though. Idiot. Why are you selling him on how great she is? He already got something I’ll never have—a date with her.
“What sorta stuff should I talk to her about?” He asks.
“What do you usually talk to your dates about?”
“I usually say. ‘Hi. I’m a famous athlete. Also, I’m rich and have a huge cock. Let’s go to your place.’ Then they say okay, and we go to their place and fuck. If they’re good at it, I keep going back, and then we’re basically dating.” He shrugs.
I pull into the driveway and the gate closes behind us. I drop my head to the steering wheel and let out a long, deep breath.
“Cole, let me be clear,” I say carefully. “Clair is my friend. She’s my best friend.”
“I thought I was your best friend.”
“You’re my best male friend. She’s my best friend.”
“So I’m not your best friend? Ouch, bro.”
“You’re in the top two.”
Only two, really, but that’s not really the point.
“That’s not so bad, I guess. Hey, imagine if me and Sinclair got married someday. When you come to visit us, you’d get to see your two best friends at once!” He grins.
I’m dying. Oxygen is no longer getting into my bloodstream and my organs are shutting down. It’s the only explanation I can think of for the hell in which I find myself trapped.
“Again, Cole, let me be crystal clear. Do not treat Clair like some piece of ass. Don’t just sleep with her if you’re not serious about her.” My words are a caution.
He looks at me and his expression is earnest. “I wouldn’t do that, Dexter. I’m not an asshole.”
“I know you’re not an asshole. I just mean…” I blow out a breath and turn to him. “I know sometimes you date women and it’s just for fun. Clair is…she’s really important to me. Please don’t use her if you don’t see her as more than someone to go out with a couple of times, then move on from.” I hold his gaze, and he seems to get that I’m serious.
“Dude…do you like her? Should I not have asked her out—were you going to make a move?” He asks.
The weight of that question hangs in the air for a moment. My heartbeat is so loud, I’m sure any passerby could hear it. The blood courses through my veins with such fervor, I feel as if my arteries will burst.
Should I have made a move?
I don’t think she’d have been remotely interested in changing the dynamic of our relationship, but I was never brave enough to find out. After tonight, I feel, somehow, like I’ll never get the opportunity to know for sure.
“We’re just friends. We’ve always been just friends,” I reply.
It doesn’t answer his question, but the subtle ambiguity of my response is lost on my friend.
“Okay, I was just making sure. Cause, dude,” he shakes his head. “She’s hot as hell. As long as I’m not stepping on your toes…I’m totally going for it.”

Synopsis “Dax Thatcher?” I ask. “But isn’t he sorta. . .old?”
Ugh. Celebrities. I mean, I know I took a job as a reporter for the Celebrity and Pop Culture department of our magazine, but it was just supposed to be a stepping stone to the more real stuff.
Despite the fact that Dax Thatcher was the subject of many of my teen fantasies–and I may or may not have an entire playlist dedicated to his music–he’s still just another star.
Until I meet him. Until his golden eyes pierce through me that day on his Malibu deck. Until I find myself having dinner with him, going backstage with him, lying on the beach with him.
And then I remember my assignment: a four-issue feature on Dax Thatcher. . .and his upcoming wedding.
I have to focus. I’m a serious journalist, and he is in a serious relationship. But that doesn’t stop me from wondering what those tattooed arms might feel like wrapped around me, or how soft the sheets on his California king bed are.
Yikes. This celebrity stuff might be a little more real than I thought.
Excerpt It’s quiet for a few minutes. I’m not sure what’s running through his head, but I’m sitting here trying to figure out what this is. Is he this nice to everyone that interviews him? Does he make this much time for all reporters?
“Your, uh, ink is showing,” he says, and I catch myself staring ahead blankly.
He points to my shoulder, which my sweater has abandoned and is sliding down off of. I move quickly to pull it back up.
“I wouldn’t have pegged you for the tattoo type,” he says, sitting back in his chair.
“Then you’ll be interested to know that I actually have four,” I say, sitting back in mine, trying to exude the same confidence that he is. I feel his eyes scanning my body again, searching all my exposed skin. I point down at my wrist at the half-heart.
“My sister has the other half,” I say.
I pull my sweater back again, showing him my shoulder. “These are the coordinates of the apartment I grew up in in Brooklyn.”
He nods again, squinting his eyes to see it.
I lift my hair and turn away from him slightly.
“This is just some dumb design I got when I turned eighteen,” I say, letting him scope out the idiotic starburst that trails down the back of my neck. I had drawn it up on a napkin the morning I became legal. It was my first attempt at rebelling, but my parents brushed it off, taking away all the fun.
I drop my hair and turn back toward him.
“And the fourth one?” he asks. I feel my cheeks flush, and I shrug.
“Not for public viewing,” I say, taking a slow sip of my wine.
His eyes flicker with something—a combination of intrigue and impatience, maybe. Then he leans forward, clasping his hands on the table.
“So you’re saying I should take you somewhere private?” he whispers, and my wine breath catches in my throat. I’m all flustered, but I need to keep my shit together. I need to figure out where his head is. I snap myself back to reality, trying desperately to hold on to that fake confidence I had earlier. I lean forward.
“Do you take all of the reporters that interview you somewhere private?” I ask. He leans back slightly, raising an eyebrow at me, that panty-dropping half-smile creeping over his lips.
“Only the ones who’ve seen me naked,” he says, dabbing at his perfect mouth with a napkin.
“And how many is that? Twenty? Thirty?” I ask. He shakes his head.
