Synopsis
NOAH
As a goalkeeper, I am trained to catch the ball, not a spirited bombshell called Sophie.

This year is about righting the wrong Papa did to Maman. It’s also about proving my worth to Coach and helping my team win gold at the French Water Polo Championship. With an unruly mutt for company and a part-time gig to pay rent, I’m one hundred percent focused on my objectives. That is, until I catch an intruder poking around my kitchen.

Sophie Bander turns my world upside down. My new landlord’s daughter isn’t just the hottest woman alive—she’s the stuff of dreams, the object of my deepest, wildest fantasies. But no matter. Nothing—not even Sophie—can make me abandon my goals. Except… I want her to distraction. And that’s the understatement of the century.

SOPHIE
As a realtor, my job is to let properties to tenants, not let one into my heart.

This year is about proving to Dad I can be a first-class realtor and a worthy associate. That’s why I’m in Paris, learning the ropes at a large agency. When I’m done, I’ll go back to Key West, join the family business, and then marry the man of Dad’s dreams. I don’t need to be attracted to the guy—I’m incapable of sexual attraction, anyway.

That is, until a hunk of a tenant mistakes me for a thief and presses me against the wall in his kitchen. Noah Masson turns my life into a mess. He makes me blush and laugh, and fantasize about him all the damn time. He awakens my body. And yet, not even dreamboat Noah can get me sidetracked from my goals. Or can he?.

Synopsis
As the youngest of four, Dylan has always been the baby. But don’t let that fool you; she’s not your average baby sister. Growing up with three older brothers left Dylan with a lack of femininity and in its place, a real guy’s girl personality. Sports, beer, burping, you name it; but don’t even think about going near her feet with a pair of heels.

When Dylan meets Tyler Vaughn, the famous and devastatingly attractive football superstar at work one morning, she’s thrilled by his good stats, not his good looks. But the wide receiver—and sweet romantic—throws her for a loop when he pursues her despite what she knows is missing, her feminine charm.

Now Dylan must reconcile the fact that this guy may actually like her, and even scarier, she may like him back. Dylan speaks sports and sarcasm fluently but romance, now that’s something completely foreign to her. What’s an emotionally-allergic guy’s girl supposed to do with a hopeless romantic?

Excerpt #2
I hung up without responding. Not only was I late but the conference room on this floor was conveniently located on the opposite side of the building. Hastily grabbing everything I needed for the meeting, I took off.

Turning the corner to head towards the conference room at Mach 10, I never even saw it coming. I knocked into something solid and hard, like a wall. A warm wall but a wall nonetheless.

“Oof!” the wall grunted.

“Jesus!” I yelled as I stumbled backward. The crash was akin to that of a car accident; loud, jolting. Only I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. I’d collided with the wall so hard I lost my balance and fell on my ass.

In the process of falling, I’d flailed. Everything I was holding went flying including the most precious item I’d been carrying—my Bruins mug full of fresh coffee. Despite my attempt to save the mug, it was no use. I bobbled it like an elusive bar of slippery soap in the shower, and it fell to the floor where it smashed, splintering into pieces. And while this harrowing event was occurring; I also managed to spill coffee all over myself.

You know the saying “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”? To me, Hell hath no fury like a Dylan without coffee. I was fuming, and also quite literally steaming thanks to the hot coffee I was now wearing.

I didn’t even want to think about the bad juju that would come from breaking my lucky mug. The Bruins were on a hot streak headed into the playoffs. I hadn’t used another mug since they started winning.

Fudge, only I didn’t say fudge.

I looked around at the confetti surrounding me before the pain radiating from my tailbone reached my brain.

“Ouch, that’s gonna leave a mark,” I said to myself.
“Well, you’re quoting Tommy Boy, so I don’t think you’re concussed. Are you okay?”
The deep voice had come from the offending wall, but I had yet to look at his face. I was still surveying

the damage around me. My brain was foggy, still a little cuckoo kachoo from our head-on collision.
“No, I’m late for a meeting. I need to get to the conference room like yesterday,” I said, shifting to my

hands and knees and picking up the broken pieces of my mug.
“Yeah, you were walking pretty fast. I didn’t even see you coming. Are you sure you’re all right?” The Wall asked.

“I’m all right,” I said dismissively. Finished picking up the pieces of my trashed mug, I saw a hand in my periphery offering to help me stand. It was a huge mitt, complete with long fingers that could palm a basketball. I grabbed onto it, feeling the warmth of its skin as it completely swallowed my tiny hand.

Once I was standing, I finally looked up at the face of my would-be attacker, The Wall. The nickname was permanently lodged in my mind. It was a habit. I worked in sports, we nicknamed everyone. The Great Bambino, Dr. Dunkenstein, The Fridge, Big Papi, The Great One, A-Roid, you get my point. We loved nicknames, and once it caught on, you could never shake it.

With one glance, a shock ran up my spine as my breath caught in my throat, and my heart started to race. I knew that face.
You see, I had literally just run into Tyler freaking Vaughn. I may have been calling him The Wall in my head but in real life, he was one of the top receivers in the NFL. And I had just plowed right into him. “Shit,” I blurted out. What was with me today? I seemed to have a terrible case of the shits – verbally. “I know, I’m sorry about your mug,” he answered regretfully.

“Forget about the mug,” I said frantically. “Are you okay?”

He didn’t answer, rather just looked at me in stunned silence. I prayed that I hadn’t hurt him. The last thing I needed was to send a high-profile player to the Injured Reserve because I hadn’t been paying attention to where I was going and accidentally cracked one of his ribs.

I waved my hand in front of his face. “Hello? Anybody home? You need me to go get some smelling salts?”

His eyes finally focused, and he cleared his throat. “Sorry,” he said with a smile.

Dear Lord in Heaven, that smile was blinding. Not in a fake white teeth kind of way but it… glowed. Almost as if the clouds had opened up and the sun was shining directly on him, and only him.

Vaughn was a devastating matchup for opponents, and I guess that wasn’t all. Looking at him from two feet away I was enlightened to the fact that, apparently, Vaughn was also devastatingly good looking. I’m not talking a cute smile or endearing freckles. I’m talking Mega Jackpot winner of the Genetic Lottery, one-in-a- million odds. His effervescent beauty would be evident even to a blind person.

“Yeah, I’m okay. Nothing I’m not used to. I just usually have pads on,” Vaughn added making me chuckle. Lucky for me, he’d had the mental acuity to crack a joke.

“You sure?” I double checked anyway despite his assertion. Athletes were notoriously stubborn; they’d never admit they were hurt. Their bone could be poking through their skin, and they’d just say it’s a scratch. Yeah, a scratch. And you’re an idiot.

“Positive,” he reaffirmed. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

I waved him off. “I’ll be okay. It was my fault; I wasn’t looking where I was going. I’ll just rub some dirt on it or something.”

“Amazing how well dirt works on injuries, huh?” he said with a chuckle. “I guess I’ll stop bothering you now so you can get back to work. I know you’re a day late.”

I shook my head at the sarcastic comment, but I couldn’t help but smile.

“Make sure you walk safely. Maybe next time try to use a turn signal before you cross traffic. It might help you avoid another collision,” he added.

That time, I laughed. Vaughn was a smart-ass, who knew? I couldn’t hold it against him, though; I was a smart-ass myself. I’d never been the serious one, always the goofy, oddball jokester. I got exceptionally awkward when things got, well, awkward. I could appreciate the fact that he’d cracked a joke to infuse some levity. It was exactly the kind of thing I would do.

He extended his hand for a handshake. “I’m Tyler Vaughn, by the way. It’s nice to meet you…” he trailed off indicating he was waiting for me to introduce myself.

“Dylan,” I offered. “Dylan Riley.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Dylan Riley,” he said, smiling at me again. Once again, with that smile the heavens opened up, his face aglow, and yet all I saw… was blue.

Synopsis
Sex and spice and cold as ice.

Those are the facts I uncover about football star Lennox Hardy after a long night of tequila and bad choices. Hardly the stuff of tabloid headlines. Everyone knows the NFL’s star quarterback is a womanizing bad boy whose voicemail is practically set to “no comment.”

What they might not know is that the sex? Kind of disappointing.

Of course, that didn’t stop me from getting knocked up.

But it’s when I confront Lennox and discover that I’d actually slept with his identical twin brother Logan, a rising politician, that my life goes from page twelve news to a gossip columnist’s wet dream.

Lennox is used to cleaning up his brother’s messes, and he barely blinks before he asks me to move in with him and pretend the baby is his, at least until his brother’s election is over. Giving me full access to his elusive, private life and the story that will make my career.

What’s a reporter to do?

But sharing an apartment with a brooding, private man who’s sexy as sin and my raging hormones may not have been the best idea. And when the only investigating I do happens with our clothes off, I know my plan has gone seriously awry…

Excerpt #1
Carefully, I slip out from under the covers and drop to my knees on the floor.  Maybe I can find some sort of evidence before he wakes up.  Something that will appease Giselle, but not something that could hurt Lennox in any kind of way.   I slowly turn and start to crawl away from the bed.  Lennox rustles behind me.  I freeze.  I dare a slow head turn in his general direction.

The rise and fall of his chest is steady.  Even. Rhythmic.  A peaceful, contented smile curls along the edges of his mouth.  For a half a second, I take a little bit of pride that I may be at least partially responsible for putting it there.  He has one arm crooked, hand tucked beneath a tousled mop of sheepdog blonde.  Long, golden lashes brush his high cheekbones as he sleeps undisturbed.

I exhale a heavy, but quiet, sigh of relief and continue my subtle egress.  I get halfway across the room when I freeze in my tracks.

What am I doing?  This isn’t me! What are you going to do?  Dig through his trash?  Root through his mail?

On hands and knees in the middle of the floor, I start to give myself a well-deserved mental ass chewing.

“Well, now there’s a position I could get used to.”  Lennox’s voice teases in a sleepy drawl behind me.  My head droops in embarrassment.

Lennox yawned like lion as he stretched his toned arms over his head.  “So, I’ve heard of the ‘walk of shame’, but I gotta admit.  I’ve never seen a ‘crawl of shame.’  Where are you off to?”

Alright, Sloane.  Suck it up.

Synopsis
Sophie Caldwell might not like asking for help, but help is what she needs if she’s going to save her family business from her uncle. Her grandma left one rule for Sophie if she wants to gain sole ownership before she’s thirty—get married. Yeah, fat chance of that happening since she hasn’t had a boyfriend in years, and now she can’t get her uncle off her ass.

British-born MMA fighter Xander James has never lost a fight, and he’s not about to start now. He’s on the brink of a comeback that could make him a UFC champion, but his landlord wants to take away his last chance by shutting down his gym. Hell, no. Fortunately, his landlord’s niece has a problem of her own. Time for a proposal she can’t refuse

Excerpt
Xan’s body had tensed more with every minute he listened. Then Caldwell insulted Sophie, making Xander’s blood boil and his fists curl tight. The only thing she could do to stop the sale was get married, and the snide bastard flat out told her he didn’t believe for a second it would ever happen, now or ever.

What a bunch of bullshit. Xan would bet Sophie had men panting after her on the regular, and if her relationships didn’t last, it was probably because they couldn’t hold a candle to her raging fire.

That wouldn’t be the case if they ever got together, at least not in the bedroom. He would match her flame for flame until they incinerated everything around them. He’d been on the verge of letting those torrid images get the best of him again when the cruel words of her uncle smacked him back to the present.

“…the only way to acquire the trust is through a legitimate marriage. Considering your track record with men, I think we both know what the likelihood of that is.”

Fucking hell! To hear him speak so callously to a woman—his own niece—brought back painful memories of growing up hearing his father berate and belittle Xander’s mother. It’s why he often got involved in situations that were none of his business. He couldn’t stomach witnessing a woman being bullied.

Xan was going to make the tosser choke on his own words.

He stalked out to the front door, reached up, and flicked the little bell to signal his “arrival.” Turning around, he faced a perplexed Kristin who opened her mouth, presumably to ask if he’d fallen off his rocker. He held a finger up to his lips and shot her a look he hoped would brook no argument. She simply raised a single brow with interest.

Xan spoke loud enough for his voice to travel down the hallway to Sophie and her uncle. “Hello, Kristin, you’re looking lovely as ever,” he said, walking toward the hall. “Just popping in to see my girl after my run. Tell Billy I said hello, yeah?” Then he proceeded to eat up the short distance to reach the office.

Acting as though he had every right to barge in without knocking or asking for permission, he swung the door in wide just as she was approaching, hopefully to throw the asshole out of her office. Sophie’s chocolate eyes widened in surprise, her red-stained lips opening on a gasp.

“There you are, sweetheart.”

“Xander, what—”

That’s all she got out before his large hands took hold of her face and he slanted his mouth over hers for a claiming kiss. He wasn’t the sort of man to greet his woman with a chaste peck, but rather one of possession and ownership. One that marked her as his alone, without question, without challenge.

Only he hadn’t known that about himself until the moment his lips touched Sophie’s.

Mine. So fucking mine.

Excerpt #1
The awkwardness stretched between them until Asha couldn’t stand it anymore.

“Well, goodnight then. I’ll see you around at work, I’m sure.”

“I’ll walk you out and get you a car out the back.”

“That’s not necessary. I’ll be—”

He shook his head, cutting her off. “You were seen with me out front. The paparazzi will be waiting.”

“Okay. Well, thank you.”

Dax ushered Asha to the back of the bar. As they shuffled through the crowd, the only thing she could feel was the warm press of his hand on her back as he guided her. Currents of electricity spread from that spot on her back to the rest of her body.

Holy hell, this was all kinds of inconvenient. Inconvenient is an understatement, honey. Her body was responding to him in a way that she’d never felt before, and it was more than inconvenient. More like a disaster. She’d felt the pull of attraction earlier today, and naïvely, she thought she’d be able to ignore it. Shove it under the rug. No such luck.

Dax was a professional athlete. That meant he went through women like Kleenex. And an uptight virgin was not going to get his attention for very long. Not like she’d intended to still be a virgin at twenty.

Okay, so maybe she hadn’t really done anything about that fact, either. She figured it would happen someday. But someday got replaced with studying, and doing everything in her power to gain her father’s love.

he hadn’t really had time for boys.

Oh, and her brother was Damon Wix, so most guys avoided her, for fear he’d annihilate them.

At the back door, Dax spoke to one of the security guards, who then nodded and went outside.

“They’ll get you a cab, and let you know when it’s here.”

She blinked up at him and cleared her throat. “Thank you. You didn’t have to do the knight-in-shining-armor thing, but it’s appreciated.”

“Well, you were my dat—uh, meeting, person, thing, so…uh…” He sighed. “You came with me, so I’m making sure you get home safe. Look at me being the good guy.”

And just as soon as the sincerity was there, it was quickly driven out. Not to worry; now that she knew it was there, lurking under the surface, she knew she could get it back.

Luckily, the hallway wasn’t as crowded as the VIP area or the main club, but a mix of busboys, security, and wait staff ran back and forth at a quick clip. One of them bumped her, shoving her into Dax’s big body. Thanks to his quick reflexes, he steadied her in an instant, only for her to realize that her body was pressed against his like a plaster mold.

Dax stared down at her, his eyes going darker. More focused. His lips parted, and Asha couldn’t control the wild swing of her erratic heartbeat. Low in her belly, something hot and slick pulled at her, making her want…things. Things with him. Things she had no business wanting. Her nipples pebbled to hard peaks against his chest, as she fought for breath.

Luckily, she wasn’t the only one affected. Even as his pupils dilated, his breath came out in choppy spurts. When he finally spoke, his voice was low, rough. “Asha—” It was part question, part, I’m going to do very dirty things to you. Or, maybe that was just in her head.

He leaned his head down, and for a moment, Asha dared to breathe, dared to hope—

“Hey, Coulter, got that cab for you.”

In a flash, Dax set her away from him, and Asha’s head swam as she tried to focus. He licked his lips and took a very deliberate step back. “Let’s get you safely in a cab, yeah?”

Even as he shut the cab door behind her, Asha couldn’t help but wonder, what the fuck had just happened?

Synopsis
Heisman winner. Member of the National Championship team. NFL Rookie of the Year. Quarterback Colin O’Connor knows he’s become the ultimate romance novel cliché: all the success he’s ever dreamed of but nobody to share it with. Too bad it’s not as simple as asking out the next girl who intrigues him – because the next girl to intrigue him probably won’t be a girl at all.

Unexpectedly, the solution comes in one neat package: Nick Wheeler, lead journalist for a leading sports and pop culture blog. Hired by Colin’s team, Nick comes to Miami to shine a spotlight on the NFL’s most private quarterback.

The heat in Miami rises when Nick discovers that Colin is nothing like the hollow personality he pretends to be in interviews and he’s even hotter in person than on his Sports Illustrated cover. Nick knows this is the story of his career, and after spending his teenage years as a bullied, closeted teen, it hits very close to home. What he needs is to help Colin share his story while keeping their growing relationship from boiling over in the press, but what he wants is to tell the world.

Excerpt #2
She wanted to believe him, but this had happened before. “You know you don’t have to explain yourself to me.” She tipped her chin up.

“I know I don’t, but I want to.” He stepped farther into the apartment, getting closer. “I need you to know. As much as we’re friends, you’re the one I want to be with. If you’re not ready, that’s cool, but the only girl I’m interested in is you.”

She swallowed, her pulse quickening. Oh, God. He was so close. His heat. She wanted him. Wanted his arms around her. Wanted his lips on her. She wanted him to look at her like she mattered.

“The way you ran off… Are you going to keep denying that you want more than to just be friends?” His voice was low. He was only a breath away.

Tami avoided meeting his gaze. “You don’t understand. I’ve been here before. And it hurts too much when I get left behind.”

He whispered, “I wouldn’t hurt you. You are the reason I get up every day and I feel excited instead of depressed. You do that.”

She looked up at him and saw her waning restraint reflected in his eyes as he leaned closer. So close. She wanted to feel. She was done with being numb. Tami rose on tiptoe, gently wrapping her arms around his neck. Bryce released a shuddering breath right before he slid his lips over hers.

He tasted faintly of mocha, and something sweet. He growled low in his throat, then deepened the kiss at the same time as he backed her into the apartment and kicked the door shut with his foot. Then, he pressed her up against the wall and deepened the kiss, licking into her mouth.

Tami couldn’t think. Fog clouded out rational thought. All she wanted was more of this. More of him. She might not be able to keep him, but she could have him now. She just had to steel herself against the broken heart when it came.

Because it would.

Willow Scott is sweet, innocent, and 100% untouchable. She’s the epitome of everything MMA fighter Regan “Rapscallion” Matthews has always wanted, but will never have. A woman like her deserves more than a scrapper from the wrong side of the tracks–the Scott’s charity case.

When Willow sees something she wants, she goes after it–damn the consequences–and her sights are set on him. GRAPPLING FOR POSITION Teaser 1

Excerpt
“Come here.” His brow arched mischievously as he held out his hand.

Hesitantly, she placed hers inside his, and Regan’s strong fingers immediately enveloped her hand. A jolt of heat raced up her arm, which jump-started her heart, kicking it into a wild rhythm as he led her toward her bedroom.

Wait. What was he doing? Excitement warred with anxiety. She wanted Regan, no question about it, but this . . . This was moving kind of fast, wasn’t it? She knew he moved fast. But this was like speed dating on crack. She hadn’t even been home for five minutes, and he was already half-undressed and pulling her into her bedroom.

“Umm . . . Regan, wait. Do you think maybe we could, you know, talk first?”

“Talk?” He sounded as if the idea was absurd. “About what?” Then his steps faltered, his brows narrowing. “Wait a minute. Why do you think I’m bringing you in here?”

She didn’t need to respond. The flush staining her cheeks was all the answer he needed. One plus one equaled two pretty damn fast, and he cursed, scrubbing his hand over the top of his head, making it rain white powder. What the hell was that?

“You think I’m bringing you into your bedroom so we can hook up?”

Well, he didn’t have to look so disgusted by it. Talk about your confidence booster . . .

Regan dropped her hand like it was on fire, but that would be her face. Embarrassment burned up her cheeks.

“Holy hell, don’t you know me at all? And you were still going to come with me?” he accused.

“You’re half naked,” she said in her defense. “And you said you were waiting for me. And you were pulling me into my bedroom. What was I supposed to think?”

“And I told you this afternoon that I wasn’t going to do anything about it.”

All right . . . those were fighting words. Now she was pissed. Indignation rose inside her, drowning out her embarrassment, and sparking her temper just enough to make her reckless. “And I told you I was.” Willow reached up and began unbuttoning her shirt, starting at the top and working her way down. Regan’s eyes grew wide with shock and then dropped to her breasts, the absinthe brightness darkening to emerald. Her nipples hardened under the intensity of his stare.

“What are you doing, Willow?”

Was that anxiety she heard in that tough fighter’s voice? “What does it look like?”

“It looks like you’re taking your fucking clothes off in the hall. Stop it.”

Half the buttons were undone, exposing the shell pink lace cups of her demi bra and her generous swell of cleavage. She had great boobs. They were one of her best assets, and in just a minute, Regan was going to find that out too. Not going to do anything about it, huh . . .? Well, they’d see about that.

“Willow . . .” Tension filled his voice, now husky and raw, but his eyes didn’t leave her chest—not even to blink. He looked a mix between mesmerized and panicked. Was this the mighty Regan Matthews? “Cunt Conqueror,” his friends teasingly called him. The only thing he looked capable of conquering right now was a panic attack.

This shift in power between them made her bold, and frustration made her careless—a dangerous combination when it came to Willow Scott. She released her last button and let her top fall to the floor.

“Willow, I mean it,” he warned.

She took a step toward him, and he countered with one back, slamming into the wall. Tucking her lips between her teeth to hold back her mischievous grin, she taunted, “What are you going to do about it?”

She couldn’t believe she was doing this—taking her clothes off in front of Regan. This wasn’t her. She’d barely ever kissed a guy, let alone undressed in front of one. But she’d set them on an emotional game of chicken, and she’d be damned if she backed down now and risked losing all the ground she’d gained with him this afternoon.

Giving him a daring smile that held a lot more confidence than she felt, she reached behind her back and slipped her fingers beneath her bra clasp. Regan flinched. He knew what she was about to do. Hard core lust flared in his eyes, stealing some of her bravado. There was a real possibility she’d just stepped into the deep end of the pool—without a floaty.

She’d heard the rumors whispered by the cage-bangers loitering around the gym and at the CFA-sponsored events. Regan and Aiden were fan-club favorites. So was her brother, but that was just—eww . . . Some things a girl just didn’t need to know about her brother, and how he liked it, and with whom he liked it, were two of them.

Unfortunately, in this business, she learned more than she ever cared to know about the sexual appetites of Marcus’s fighters. Cole never hit the same hole twice, Aiden preferred them two at a time, and Del Toro never touched ’em, which spawned speculation that he might be into dudes, but she didn’t think so. He was just broken—in every way. Kyle . . . not gonna go there. And Regan, well, Regan was known for his ravenous appetite. And that wild, untethered hunger in his eyes right now told her she was looking like a gazelle to this lion.

Breathless seconds kicked by, eyes locked, and muscles tensed. Was this what it was like to face him in the cage? –focused and ready to strike. Her heart slammed against her ribs as she stood there, frozen. With the slightest flick of her fingers, her bra would come loose, dropping to the floor. If she could just summon the courage to do it.

She didn’t have a chance. Regan lunged for her. Mercy, he moved fast. She let out a startled squeak, expecting his mouth to come crashing down on hers as he lived up to his reputation. He was going to possess her—consume her.

But instead, he grabbed her arm, pulling it away from her bra clasp. “Stop taunting me, Willow. You’re not going to break me,” he growled, spinning them to pin her between the wall in the hallway and his wall of hot, muscled flesh. His lips were achingly close to hers. She wasn’t sure who he was trying to convince, her or himself. The tension firing between them was electric, his need palpable as he fought his beast into submission. She could see the war waging in his eyes, and it thrilled her—watching his will battling his emotions and wondering which one would win, because there was no doubt in her mind Regan wanted her.
She knew she wasn’t playing fair, but Willow was past fair; she was playing for keeps. “Maybe not, but it’s only right if I do since you’ve broken me.”

He looked at her in question, eyes narrowing over brows drawn tight in that infamous “Rapscallion” scowl.

“You ruined me for every other guy, because the only one I’ve ever wanted is you. I’m almost twenty-one years old, and I don’t even know what it’s like to really be kissed. How pathetic is that?”

 —————————————————————————-

My Review
Liza, daughter of Sergei and stepdaughter of Em from LIFE ON THE EDGE, gets her own story. At 18, she’s preparing for the Winter Olympics, her life resembling anything but a typical teen one. Until she meets Braden, a dreamy college freshman from UMass. It took me nearly half of the book to really get into it. The first half is almost completely devoid of any serious conflict, and I couldn’t even really identify the antagonist. But once the skating portion really got going at about the 50% point, the story took off.

Liza decides she can’t risk her Olympic dreams by giving into her feelings for a boy, so she keeps him at arm’s length. That doesn’t keep her from being possessive and jealous, though, when other girls pay attention to him. Braden decides to wait for Liza as she focuses on skating, ignoring the attention from may attractive girls, including his childhood BFF, Sam. Liza attempts to paint Sam as the bad guy, but I just never could see her that way. I found her quite sympathetic. So while the romance didn’t have me swooning, the skating sure did. The story hits the mark when Liza takes the ice in Detroit. Tensions ramp up between Liza and Kathy, one of her coaches.

Plot
While I think the main plot is the romance, the skating is probably a stronger plot. Liza’s grit and determination, her discipline and professionalism are front and center as she works her way through the competitions leading up to the Olympics. There is plenty of drama, conflict, and feels when it comes to this part of the story. The romance doesn’t fall flat by any means, it just wasn’t my favorite part of the story.

Characters
While I needed time to warm up to Liza, once I did, I rooted for her fully. She still had moments where she got on my nerves, but when it came to reaching her skating goals, I was behind her one hundred percent. Braden is definitely likeable enough, but he wasn’t developed to the point that I fully got a sense of him. There were times he came across as flat. The characters that I enjoyed the most, even though I didn’t particularly like them, were Kathy and Liza’s mom. Both were controlling in different ways, but I really felt as if I had a sense of who they were and why they did the things they did.

What Didn’t Work for Me
1. Lack of Conflict.
The lack of conflict in the first half of the book made it difficult for me to stick with at times.

2. Braden. I never got a good sense of his character.

3. Liza’s Angst. While pushing Braden away with one hand, she hated on every girl who paid attention to him. It seemed childish for someone of her age and with her level of maturity.

What I Enjoyed About GOLD RUSH
1. Skating.
I love the competitive skating part of the story. The descriptions are detailed and draw me in.

2. Competitive Liza. When she’s not pining away for a boy she can’t even decide if she wants, she’s a fierce competitive with drive, who knows what she wants and goes after it full bore.

3. Kathy. This was more of a love-hate relationship, but she’s the true antagonist in the story, so I needed her. I would have liked more of her though.

4. Sam. I liked Sam a lot. No, I didn’t want her to end up with Braden, but I didn’t see her as a romantic rival, either. I saw her as a girl who was in love with a boy not in love with her. That’s a sympathetic character no matter which way you look at it.

5. The ending. No spoilers 🙂

Bottom Line
GOLD RUSH has a solid sports storyline that carries the weaker romance across the finish line.

Excerpt #3
I reached my hand out to him. “Mind giving me a hand?”

He reached down and grabbed my hand. His dry grip was strong—quite a contrast to my cold pruned fingers. He could’ve pulled my entire body out with one tug. But that wasn’t what I wanted. Instead I tugged his hand hard, throwing him off balance. He tried catching himself, but fell into the water with a huge splash.

I scrambled back, not wanting to be anywhere near him when he surfaced.

When he did, his eyes were wild, searching the pool for me. I assumed his eyes had adjusted to the darkness because he spotted me on the low end, a sly smile swiping across his face. “You thought that was funny?” He pushed his hair off his forehead.

I nodded as I stifled my laughter. “As funny as a box of tampons in my lap.”

“So that’s how it’s gonna be?” He moved toward me, wiping water from his eyes as he did. “An eye for an eye?”

“Just following your lead.” I kept him in my sight as I moved along the wall, lowering my body so only my head remained above water.

“Then why are you all the way over there?” He moved closer, treading water easily as I shuffled away from him. “You wanted me in the water. Here I am.”

My pulse began to rattle in my chest. “I didn’t think you’d actually fall in.”

He grunted incredulously. “You pulled my hand, but didn’t think I’d fall in?”

I shook my head. “I wanted to scare you.”

“Do I look scared?” His eyes tightened, predatory and sexy as hell. If I was capable of falling under his spell, I very well could have in that moment. But his charms were wasted on me. He lunged forward until he had me backed into the curved corner of the pool.

I moved right. He was there. I tried for left. He was there, too. Shit.

“Now, what to do with you,” he mused.

Thankfully we were cloaked in darkness because heat crept up my neck, spreading to my cheeks. “I’m sorry.”

He raised a brow. “Now you’re sorry?”

I nodded, unsure what he was looking for.

His features remained pensive as he tunneled his fingers through his wet hair, his biceps all shiny and ripped.

Oh, man. I needed to remember why I hated him so much. I needed to get away from him. Far away. I dropped underwater and pushed off the wall behind me, taking off swimming. I didn’t get far. Caden wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me against his chest.

I froze.

It took all of two seconds of having his wet skin and rock hard body wrapped around me for the image of him dropping his lips to my bare shoulder to materialize in my brain. A shiver surged through me. In that instant, when being in his arms felt too good, I knew I needed to get out of there.

Synopsis
Bad boy quarterback Ty Mathews has it all–money, women, fame. On the gridiron, he vanquishes defenses with his golden arm. Off the field, it’s another part of his anatomy that gets all the glory. And deservedly so, for what he doesn’t know about women hasn’t been written.

Except for MacKenna Perkins.

The rookie reporter wants nothing to do with him. After all, she was hired to cover women’s and social issues for her local Chicago newspaper, not deal with cocky football players. But when the sports reporter falls ill, she’s asked to interview a wide receiver. And since she knows next to nothing about football, she totally fails at it.

Until Ty Mathews volunteers his services.

With her job on the line, she accepts his offer. Too late, she realizes her unruly heart’s not listening to her head. In no time at all, she’s in his bed, doing all those dirty, filthy things he likes to do.

But soon secrets surface about his past. Secrets that may destroy his future. And MacKenna must decide if the price she must pay for the story is worth her broken heart.

A smokin’ hot, STANDALONE, FULL-LENGTH novel with a guaranteed HEA.

 —————————————————————————-

Excerpt

“Ty lets out a hard breath. “You’ll need to earn their respect before they open themselves up to you.”

“I know. How do I do that?”

All fluid grace and masculine power, he strolls back to me. “Well, for starters. You need to learn the game.”

I nod in agreement. “I’m reading up on football and doing research.”

“You need to do more than that. I can teach you.” His voice softens, as his hand reaches out to fiddle with my hair. “I can teach you lots of things.”

My body flares up into a fiery need. I want him. I want this man more than my next breath. But there’s something he must be made to understand.

“I’m not a groupie.”

“Oh, sweetheart, of course you’re not. You’re sunshine and rainbows and everything that’s right in this world.”

“Ty?”

“Say, yes, sweetheart. Say yes, and I’ll give you anything you want.”

I don’t breathe a word, but let my trembling body do the talking for me. Interpreting my silence as consent, he slowly strips me of my sweater, my jeans, leaving me in nothing but a pink bra and panties.

His hot gaze sweeps up and down my body. “Look at you. You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

I notch up my chin. “I bet you say that to all the girls you bring here.”

His lips flatten. “I’ve never brought a woman to my home.”

My eyes widen. “You haven’t?”

“No. You’re the first.”

He hasn’t kissed me, but that’s got to be worth something. I wet my lips. “Take off your shirt.”

One handed, he rips it off in that way guys do, oh, so very well, and my breath cuts short. Ty clothed is one thing. But bare-chested, he’s magnificent. Hard pecs, huge arms, ripped everything. And his abs? I could do a week’s worth of laundry on those ridges.

“MacKenna, baby, say yes. I can’t do it unless you agree.”

I let out a shaky sigh and, even though I know better, breathe out one, single word. “Yes.”

Excerpt
As Braden drove me home, I lost any feeling of comfort I’d gained, and my palms began to glisten with sweat. I felt more anxious than I had when we’d first started the evening. The “end of the date” moment was near, and all I could think about was a possible kiss and Courtney’s advice of melting into it. I had a terrible fear that I was going to do the exact opposite and be as stiff as a new pair of skates.

We pulled up in front of my house, and I rubbed my hands on my sweater. Braden shut off the engine, and I longed to know his next move. Was he going to say goodnight there or was he going to walk me to the door?

He stepped out of the Jeep, answering my question. I climbed out, and he took my hand as we walked up to the porch, lit only by the dim gaslight lamps on either side of the front door. My pulse was seriously racing. I hadn’t been that nervous since I’d skated at the Olympics three years ago.

Braden faced me, and I looked up into his soft brown eyes. I could barely catch my breath because my heart was beating so fast. I’m going to have a heart attack and die before I even have the chance to kiss a boy.

“I thought your dad might be out here with a breathalyzer,” he said. “My dad actually did that with one of my sisters’ boyfriends.”

“Oh, no.” I laughed, but I secretly hoped that Dad might pop through the front door and save me from this nerve-wracking moment.

“I’m really glad we got to hang out tonight,” Braden said.

“Me too. I had a great time.”

He squeezed my hand and shifted his weight, and I sensed he was anxious, too, but probably nowhere near my level of freak-out. My face and neck were growing hotter by the second, and I prayed Braden couldn’t see how red they were in the low light.

“I’d love to see you again,” he said, stepping closer.

I nodded. “Definitely.”

He smiled and inched further forward, and I felt myself tightening with nerves. It was the same sensation I got sometimes before a critical jump in my programs, and it often meant I ended up sprawled on the ice. What if Braden kissed me and I made it just as much of a disaster?

Synopsis
They believe love conquers all.

One of pro-hockey’s golden couples, Andrew and Caryn Chadwick live in the limelight reserved for elite professional athletes. On their second anniversary, Andrew receives an unexpected contract offer to join the Tampa Suns. As they look forward to a new adventure, neither foresees an event that challenges their love and threatens their marriage.

Until the day it doesn’t.

A sudden and senseless accident threatens Andrew’s life and inexplicably drives a wedge between the couple. Shattered by the incident, paralyzed by fear that it could happen again, Caryn finds herself at odds with her husband and unable to provide the support he needs—at the time he is most vulnerable.

As their perfect world crumbles, each makes choices that take Andrew and Caryn further apart. Distrust, fears, and secrets construct walls. This Piece of My Soul follows the joint and separate paths the couple navigate as each hopes to rediscover the love that can conquer all.

**Although This Piece of My Soul is the second book in the Clearing the Ice Series, it can be read as a standalone novel.**

Excerpt (Chapter 1)
Andrew Chadwick jerked awake as the phone vibrated on the bedside table. He glanced at the screen as he quickly pressed “ignore.” He slipped from the bed, hoping the noise and movement didn’t wake his wife. His eyes adjusted to the darkness and satisfied that Caryn still slept, he grabbed clothes and headed downstairs. Don Wilson calling in the middle of the night can only bring news I don’t want to hear. Andrew quickly texted a response to his agent, then dressed and splashed cold water on his face. He grabbed a Coke, and quietly opened the door to the courtyard patio. He sat in the Toronto predawn light, staring at the phone a few minutes before he returned the call.

Don apologized before Andrew could speak. “Sorry to call so early. I know you’re headed out today and had to catch you before you two fall off the grid.”

“What can’t wait ten days?” Andrew twisted the bottle cap and took a long drink.

“Tampa sent an offer sheet an hour ago.”

“Hudson signed with Chicago?”

“Late last night.”

Andrew sighed. “How much?” He closed his eyes and his agent relayed the amount and terms. Not what I want to deal with today. “The Blues’ response?”

“Just got off the phone with Jenkins. Andrew, if you sign the sheet, the Blues can’t match the offer without making some quick moves. This totally blows up their salary cap.”

“No indication they’re interested in a deal?”

Don barked a laugh. “Oh, they might sign the deal we discussed last month.”

Andrew’s fingers drummed against the table. “Your take on their lack of interest up to now?”

“The Blues can’t afford you long-term; you’ll be traded before your current contract expires.” Wilson waited a beat. “The Suns are a contender right now, Andrew. They want you to fill a huge hole in the starting line. This may be the offer you can’t refuse.”

“How long do I have?”

“Obviously, the Suns would like your answer as quickly as possible. They’re willing to fly us down so we can discuss this face-to-face, and you and Caryn can look at the area. I can hold them off a while, but probably not ten days.”

Andrew stood and walked across the patio. “No, I don’t want this hanging over our heads that long.”

“If you tell me your trip plans, I will rebook it out of Tampa.”

“Good try, Don, but no, I’ll take care of that.” He laughed a little. “Give me a few hours. I need to discuss this with Caryn and think things through.”

Slipping his iPhone into his pocket, Andrew stepped back inside. Way too early to wake Caryn. His thoughts drifted to the trip they were scheduled to begin that morning. An anniversary tradition that began with their honeymoon two years earlier. Destination his secret and Caryn packing according to his ambiguous suggestions—casual or formal, warm or cold, passport just in case. Despite her best efforts to pry information from him—even during their most intimate moments—Caryn never knew the destination until they arrived at the airport. Even then, he might insert a plane change mid-route.

Last year, she thought they were going to California’s wine country, but when the plane landed in San Francisco, he took her hand and led her to another gate. He laughed softly as he remembered her expression of delight, mixed with pure panic at the thought of getting on another plane that would take them over the Pacific Ocean to reach the final destination, Fiji. He’d pushed her to her limit…well, beyond her limit. Despite the unforgettable ten days in the lush secluded villa, he carefully planned this year’s trip to minimize her discomfort.

Andrew leaned against the counter and gazed out the kitchen window, the darkness slowly retreating. Tampa’s offer cast a shadow over their plans, not just the anniversary trip but the upcoming move back to St. Louis before training camp. Caryn’s made St. Louis a second home, her client list managing corporate and individual social media accounts expanding monthly. Not to mention that her best friend, Lauren, just landed a marketing job in St. Louis and plans to move from Vancouver in just a few weeks.

He pushed away from the counter and wandered to the living room, closing his eyes and sitting back in the chair. It’s a no-win situation. If I sign the Suns’ offer sheet, the Blues will either decline to match—or worse, trade teammates to keep me.

His ambitions had never included owning one of the highest contracts on a team. But, if he didn’t sign the offer sheet, his agent’s prediction very likely would play out. Come March, he’d find himself playing on a different team, worst-case scenario traded to one of the teams in the midst of rebuilding.

The Suns were a contender now. They’d made it to the Stanley Cup Final last season. They couldn’t re-sign the league’s leading scorer, but extended the offer sheet to the Blues last night. The offer catapulted him into an entirely new level, both in terms of money and the pressure of replacing the team’s leading scorer. Andrew knew he could fill the slot—on the ice at least—but at what cost to Caryn, their friends in St. Louis, the chemistry that existed among his linemates?

He didn’t hear Caryn approach until her hand rested on his shoulder. “You’re up early, Drew. I planned to surprise you with breakfast in bed.” She pressed her lips against the top of his head. “Happy second anniversary.”

Andrew slipped his arm around her waist and drew her onto his lap. “My favorite day of the year,” he whispered before her kiss chased all thoughts of Tampa from his mind.

“Shall we just skip the breakfast part?” Her voice purred in his ear.

He closed his arms around her, his mouth finding hers. He shifted his body until he could stand with her locked in his embrace. He stepped across the room and gently placed her on the sofa, breaking the kiss with a soft curse as his phone vibrated in his pocket. He sat on the edge of the sofa as he pulled the phone from his pocket and glanced at the display. Don. Again. Now what?

“You’ve got something?” He caught Caryn’s questioning look at the impatient tone in his voice as he stood and began to walk across the room.

“Just spoke with Jenkins again. Wanted to see if they are open to revisiting our contract negotiations before you decide anything.”

“And?” He stopped for a moment, anticipating the response.

“He said their offer is on the table.”

“Take it or leave?” Andrew felt Caryn’s hand grasp his shoulder, but he shrugged it off as he continued pacing.

“More or less. You owe it to yourself to talk with the Suns. The Blues best offer is two years only. You could be looking at a long-term deal with Tampa.”

“Yeah. Give me a little more time. I’ll call you back.” He ended the call and tossed the phone across the table before turning toward the door. His mounting frustration threatened an angry release.

“Drew?”

He held up his hand. “A couple minutes, Cary. I need to clear my mind.” Without waiting for her reply, he jerked the door open and stepped outside, closing it firmly behind him.

#

Caryn shut her eyes tightly, and then sighed as she picked his cell phone off the floor and set it on the table. Her first reaction when his phone vibrated had centered on the fear that something had happened to his parents—or his brother, Tom. From the few words he spoke, Caryn knew Andrew had received some news from his agent. Don was the only other person she could imagine calling this early…and it sounded like this was not their first conversation today. Drew obviously hadn’t expected whatever Don told him. Take it or leave? Contract issues? This early in the morning? Don knows we’re leaving today, but this early? Another trade? After his best season ever? Of course, that didn’t stop the Leafs from trading him to the Blues. I hate the uncertainty that hockey brings to our lives. But it’s part of the package I signed on for when he asked me to marry him. We’ll get through whatever it is… together.

Taking a deep breath, she headed toward the kitchen to begin preparing the “surprise” breakfast. Maybe this would help to restore the anticipation and excitement the day had promised.

She grabbed a bottle of water and set the table after placing his favorite blueberry muffins—his mom’s recipe—in the oven. Checking the time, Caryn decided to take a quick shower and dress. She had no clue what Andrew had planned for their trip. She’d packed for warm weather as he’d suggested, adding some “just-in-case” clothes for cooler evenings. Ten days somewhere just the two of them, totally off the grid—no iPads, laptops, texting, and phones turned off. Only Tom knew how to reach them in case of an emergency. Drew called those ten days a selfish gift to themselves, giving them time to just be together before training camp and the season to come, bringing with it the many days they’d spend apart… But what if this… whatever it is… gets in the middle of our trip? Forces him to cancel? I know he has another year on this contract, but what if…?

Pushing the thoughts to the back of her mind, she focused instead on the day, the excitement that had rippled through her the moment she woke up. She couldn’t wait to learn his plans for this year… even if it did involve another incredibly long flight over water.

#

The muffins sat cooling on top of the counter when Andrew returned. He quickly pulled Caryn into his arms and kissed her temple as he apologized for walking out.

“What’s going on, Drew?” Caryn moved back so she could see his eyes.

“I’m not sure what to think.” His blue eyes locked on hers. “Remember when we talked about Don working with the Blues on a contract extension?”

“I know you’re not happy with the length of the new contract… just two years?”

“Yep, then we’re back in the same place we are now, without a ‘no move’ clause.” He paused and gently brushed the hair away from her forehead. “The Tampa Suns submitted an offer sheet last night.” Caryn started to ask a question, but Andrew continued, “I’m a restricted free agent. Any team can offer a contract to a RFA, but if the player signs it, the current team has a week to match the offer.”

“Tampa wants to sign you?”

“Yeah—their leading scorer, a free agent, signed with Chicago last night.”

Caryn smiled as she softly placed her hand against his cheek. “And they hope to entice you to take his place.”

Andrew laughed quietly. “I guess. The Blues already told Don if I sign the offer sheet, the Blues wouldn’t match it.”

“I guess Don already spoke with the Blues about a contract extension?”

“Yep.” He shook his head slightly. “The last offer they put on the table is the most they are willing to commit. I doubt I’m in their long-term plans.”

“Why not?” Caryn’s voice rose in anger. “You only scored the most points last year and the year before.”

Andrew placed his finger against her lips as he told them what Tampa had offered. “Don thinks the Blues can’t afford me long-term.”

Caryn broke eye contact as she looked down, processing everything. When she met his eyes again, she shrugged. “Would you want to play for the Suns?”

“Right now, I honestly don’t know. I do know that we need to make this decision together.”

“I’m happy anywhere, as long as I’m with you.”

Andrew shook his head. “You have friends in St. Louis—your best friend is moving there next month. Your business, your clients…”

“That’s the best thing about my job—I can work anywhere there’s a Wi-Fi connection. Lauren and I do a pretty good job maintaining our friendship long-distance. I don’t expect to see her very much anyway, at least not when you-know-who’s in town.” She gave him a knowing look and a smile. “Don’t you think you should at least meet with them and see what you think?”

“You mind if we rearrange our trip a bit?” His eyes captured hers again. “Maybe a stop in Tampa before we go to…” He laughed softly as Caryn looked at him expectantly. “Before we go where we’re going.”

“Drew! That’s not fair.”

He replied with a wink and glanced at the counter. “Are those what I hope they are?”

“Maybe. If I give you one, will you give me a hint?”

“I already told you what to pack.”

Caryn lightly swatted his arm as he reached for a muffin. “So… do I need to pack anything else if we go to Tampa?”

Andrew pretended to think as he bit into the warm muffin. “No, I think we’re good.” He guided her to the table. “Sit, I’ll serve you.”

Caryn’s eyes followed him as he pulled glasses from the cupboard and poured the orange juice. She shifted on the chair in anticipation of the upcoming ten days together—just the two of us.

He set a glass at each plate, and then brought the plate of muffins. He glanced at her as he sat beside her. “What are your feelings about private jets?”

“How small?”

“I don’t know. Don said the Suns would send a plane for us—unless that’s going to stress you too much.” A grin spread slowly across his face. “I can book commercial flights if you prefer.”

Caryn took a deep breath. “You know I’ll be glued to your side if I get on a private jet.”

“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” He cupped her chin in his hand. “Seriously, we can fly commercial.” She felt him watching her face closely for a reaction.

“No, I’ll be okay. I made it through those flights to and from Fiji last year. I think I can handle anything now. We don’t fly over water to get to Tampa?” she asked quickly.

Andrew laughed softly. “Only briefly if we do. It’s on a bay and the Gulf of Mexico.”

“Just so it’s not one of those really small planes.” Caryn bit into a muffin, hoping to mask her apprehension.

“I’ll have Don check that out.” Andrew reached in his pocket for his phone, and then pushed back his chair. “That’s right, last time I had my phone I was throwing it across the table.”

Caryn bit back a laugh as she watched him stride toward the living room, and then reached for her orange juice. She shifted the thought of a move to Tampa to the back of her mind. Our true home will always be Toronto. Where we live the rest of the time really doesn’t matter. She heard Andrew questioning Don about the private jet and felt her cheeks flush as he walked back into the kitchen, meeting Caryn’s eyes as he listened to Don’s response.

“So no Cessna or propeller plane? Let me check with Caryn.” He looked at her with a grin. “He’s pretty sure it’s a Gulfstream, probably the latest model.”

“Just like my dad’s. Okay, I’ll do it, but if I see anything that seats less than five, we’re going to renegotiate.”

Andrew’s laugh was soft. “I’m with you on that one, babe.” He repeated her response, listened a moment, and nodded as he ended the call. He slid into the seat beside Caryn. “Your stipulation’s now added to the offer.”

“Drew, he’s not telling them that?”

“Sounded like it to me.” He tipped her chin as he leaned to kiss her. “If they are willing to put that kind of money of the table, the size of your private jet will not be an issue.” He kept a neutral expression as Caryn felt her face redden.

“Great first impression. They’ll think I’m a bitchy diva or something worse.” Caryn buried her face in her hands. “Please call Don back and tell him never mind.”

“Nope. You think I want to get on some prop plane?”

“Then don’t make it sound like I’m one of those demanding…”

Andrew silenced her with a kiss. “I’m just teasing you. The jet’s been at the airport since they sent the offer—a nice big private jet.”

Caryn swatted at his arm. “When do we need to leave?”

“As soon as I finish these muffins.” He glanced at her from the corner of his eye. “Did you pack your bikini?” His blue eyes were hypnotic as he captured her gaze.

“Do I need it?”

“Not necessarily.” He reached to pick up the phone. “I’ve got just a couple calls to make and, no, you can’t eavesdrop.”

Caryn leaned to kiss him before she stood. “Don’t worry, I have no desire to spoil your surprise.”

Synopsis
For twenty years, Caryn Stevens dutifully followed the educational path dictated by her parents. That path had one goal—prepare her to one day assume her father’s position as CEO of the multi-billion dollar international company he founded. That and marry a man who would enhance her career and perhaps join her in leading The Stevens Company. Not too much to expect from your daughter, right?

Caryn has other ideas. Instead of returning home to Ottawa for another summer working at The Company, she’s designed a plan to stay in Toronto, take a couple of courses, and enjoy her Summer of Fun. She knew there was more to college than rigorous classes that held little interest and study groups to ensure she excelled in all her subjects. She had two years until she finished her undergrad, and then continue on to that coveted MBA at a prestigious business school.

Just this once, Caryn will set aside The Plan and enjoy life as a regular student.  To actually get her head out of the books and maybe, just maybe find someone to make the summer—dare she say it?—exciting.

You see, there’s this hunk of a guy she’s noticed on campus the first few weeks of summer. Always running—maybe in training?—but, Caryn’s seen enough to get her heart pounding. Tall, well-built, with shaggy light-brown hair. Gym shorts that emphasize taut leg muscles. Sometimes wearing a t-shirt with cut-off sleeves. Bronzed muscular biceps—truly drool-worthy. Absolutely hot—and gorgeous in a totally guy type of way. Only problem, he had no clue she existed.

Andrew Chadwick has enjoyed life in the fast lane in the five years since he’d entered the ranks of professional hockey. Preparing for his fourth season with his hometown Leafs, Andrew intends to enjoy his summer down time—hang out with friends and family, keep in shape, and erase all memories from that disastrous two-year joke of a relationship that imploded in May.

Not that he has any plans to revisit his first few years in the pros. He’d eagerly sampled the attentions of a never-ending line of women who wanted nothing more than to spend one night with a professional athlete. Believe it or not, one-night-stands with absolutely gorgeous women whose names he never bothered to remember became tedious. And that steady relationship he tried for two years? Finding your so-called girlfriend in your own bed with some other guy certainly opened his eyes.

Maybe it’s time to cut the fun and games and concentrate on things that are important—Win the Stanley Cup, give his brother any support he needs as he starts his Internship Rotations, help his Mom and Dad around their house. Act like a grown-up at twenty-four?

He’s not particularly looking, but if he were to meet someone interesting…well, he’ll just see where things go.

Neither Caryn nor Andrew expected their two very different worlds to collide on a beautiful June day…

About the Author
From early childhood, Robyn M. Ryan knew she wanted to write. This goal grew throughout elementary and high school, first composing novels featuring favorite TV and music personalities, then venturing into sports writing. Attending UGA’s journalism school launched her career in public relations, which included an internship with the Atlanta Flames NHL hockey team. At that time romance novels did not feature pro athletes, so Robyn wrote the books she and her friends wanted to read. Many years later, this manuscript received a serious critique and edit. This Piece of My Heart, a hockey romance, is the first book in Robyn’s series Clearing the Ice.

Synopsis
No more wild rides. No more wild side.

Blake Orbison’s pro football career may have ended with a bang, but not calling the signals anymore just gives him more time to devote to his business enterprises, including the latest and greatest: the opening of the Wild Horse Resort in scenic north Idaho. And that other one, too. Blake’s on the marriage track, and he’s got a game plan. But when he runs into a trespasser leaping from his shoreline boulders into his lake, what’s a good ol’ boy to do but strip down and join her?

Dakota Savage is nobody’s temporary diversion, least of all the man responsible for her family’s semi-desperate circumstances. Some people may think she has a piercing too many, but she’s had more than enough of being called trash in this town. She’s come home to Wild Horse to run her stepfather’s painting business, and any extra time she has goes into creating her stained glass. An overpaid, entitled, infuriating NFL quarterback is no part of her life plan, no matter how sweet he talks. No matter how slow he smiles. No matter what.

Excerpt
It wasn’t Jerry. That much, she could tell as he got closer. It was somebody a whole lot slimmer. Tall, check. Short dark hair, check. Black shirt, check. But no gut, and she thought there was some darkness around the jaw that wasn’t quite a beard. Another security guy. She could be cute enough for him. Maybe. What would he care, really, what she did?

“Hi,” she said as he approached. “Next time maybe don’t yell right when I’m jumping.” Taking the initiative. Projecting confidence. She was better at that than “cute.”

“Hell of a graceful landing,” he agreed, and glasses or no, she could see the flash of white teeth through the dark stubble just fine. Also that he had a pair of shoulders to die for, and some very nice arms in that T-shirt. Not to mention long legs in dusty jeans and work boots, and about six foot three of lean muscle. Nobody she knew, because she’d have noticed him. She might not be able to see him, exactly, but she could see enough.

“If you’re security,” she said, “I was just going.”

“I’m not security. And I hope that’s a lie that you were just going, because that looked real fun.”

He had a Southern drawl she’d surely never heard in Wild Horse. Slow as molasses, and just that thick and sweet. Ah hope thass a lah that you were juss goin’. “Let me guess,” she said, feeling a sneaky little surge of excitement. “You’re out here to do wrong. Sign says ‘No Trespassing,’ and you’ve been given the big lecture, but you’re not worried, because you’re a badass like that.”

Some more grin. “Could be. Is that water deep enough to be safe? We’re both too pretty to get ourselves paralyzed.”

“Oh, yeah,” she assured him. “Best spot on the lake for it. No place else has rocks like this or a pool this deep. Which means, of course, that the Man comes and fences it off and tells you that you can’t use it anymore, even if you’re working out here. Gotta love capitalism, and this is about the worst.”

He gazed into the distance and scratched thoughtfully at his cheek. “Bad place to work, you think? Huh.”

“I wouldn’t do it for a heartbeat if I didn’t need the money. You could say that I’m not in love with Mr. Blake Orbison or his company. But you know, we all need the money.”

“That we do. Arrogant guy?”

“Let’s say that I don’t like the way he treats people. On an . . . institutional scale.” Whoa, girl, she told herself. Lose the bitter and get back to reckless. More attractive, and a whole lot more fun. Trust her to meet a truly prime specimen of manflesh for once and immediately put him off. “So I’m sure I shouldn’t jump off his rocks. But hey, what’s life without a little danger?” There, that was better.

“Now, see, darlin’,” he said, his voice getting even deeper, the accent going a shade richer, “that’s what I tell myself all the time. It’s a real shame that so few people think like us.”

Synopsis
There is speculation that he killed a girl . . .

Journalist Hannah Black has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: Get the exclusive story from the Chicago Bears’ new starting quarterback, Derek Cage. There’s only one problem—Derek refuses to talk to reporters. The son of a famed Illinois senator, this football star despises the media.

Hannah has never been one to follow orders, especially when she wants something. When her new assignment tries to give her the brush off, Hannah won’t take no for an answer, going to extremes to get the attention of this superstar athlete.

Drawn to her quirky questions and die-hard persistence, Derek begins opening up to this rookie reporter, and he can’t stay away no matter how hard he tries.

As the two get closer, Hannah finds herself falling for the enigmatic quarterback. But nothing’s ever easy. As a decade old secret comes to light, Hannah has to decide how far she’ll go and how many lines she’s willing to cross to keep Derek safe.

Is uncovering the truth worth the risk of losing it all?

Excerpt
“Is this your idea of staying out of the press?” My dad has the front page of the sports section open on my kitchen table. Hannah is looking up at me with trust in her eyes. A feeling I won’t soon forget. A feeling I then destroyed.

My father’s irate, cold expression makes me realize how exhausted I am. My life is lived through a microscope, a specimen existing in a Petri dish for the world to judge.

“Dad, this is nothing.”

“Nothing? You were almost arrested.”

“But I wasn’t.”

After dropping Hannah at her apartment, I called my attorney, and he handled everything. The photographers had been too close, a viable threat. My actions were warranted. Of course, the media chooses to leave those details out of their coverage.

“It’s that reporter. I’m sure she tipped them off. I told you to stay away from her.”

Crumpling the paper, I toss it in the trash. “No.”

He startles at my defiance. The air has shifted.

“This is not how a Cage behaves, Derek.”

“I never asked for this last name. Never wanted the life you lead. Don’t put that burden on my shoulders.”

“Most people would give anything to have your life, to be a part of the Cage dynasty. Yet you act like it’s a curse.”

I hold my father’s stare, wondering how flesh and blood can be so different.

“It is a curse.”

“They’ll destroy you.” He pounds a fist on the table, the noise vibrating off the walls. “The stories they’ll tell. You’ll be finished, your career done, your life worthless. Just like Lily’s.”

“You think I murdered her, don’t you?”
