Synopsis
Another wingmen meets his match and this time it’s scandalous.

Carter Kelso is a man with a plan. And goats.

Ashley Kingston is a woman with a reputation.

Can he earn back her love before their past catches up with them and destroys everything?

On the island, my last name is synonymous with scandal. With a notorious father and a famous brother, I’ve been on the sidelines of our small town’s gossip circle for years. Nothing to see here. Just a man and his goats, happily going through life. Not a care in the world. Too bad it’s all lies.

I’m tired of trying not to be in love with Ashley Kingston, our very own island jezebel. Some people think she’s a slut. They think they know her. They’re wrong. Screw them.

Reputations can be deceiving. I should know.

Small Town Scandal is a second chance romance standalone novel and the fifth book in the Wingmen series. You do not have to read the other novels first.

Excerpt
An old-fashioned brass bell jingles when I open the door to June’s store. The narrow space is made even tighter by the floor-to-ceiling cubbies that line the two long walls. In the back of the store, a picture window frames a view of Saratoga Passage like a painting.

Tucked in the corner near the window is a comfy-looking wingback chair, and next to it, an oversized basket filled with balls of yarn. The shop is cozy and feminine, comfortable like a sweet grandmother’s house.

A grandmother who listens to “Sex and Candy” on low volume.

Not what I was expecting.

“Hello?” I call from my spot near the door. There’s no sign of June or anyone else inside. Double-checking the door for a Be back soon note and not seeing one, I step farther into the space. “Hello?”

A soft thump followed by more thumps comes from the desk area. Metallic pings and something heavy hitting the floor precedes a feminine voice yelping “Ouch” and “Fuck!”

June doesn’t seem like the type to drop f-bombs. Maybe she’s hired a ’90s-music-loving teenager with a foul mouth.

“Everything okay?” I follow the noise to the partially open door near the register.

“Fine. Fine! Nothing to see here! I’ll be with you in a second. Thanks for your patience.” What sounds like rapid-fire beanbags hitting a cornhole board contradicts her words.

As I see it, I have two options. I can ignore whatever is going on inside the closet and wait, or I can ignore her lie and step in to help.

I go with the second choice.

Swinging the door open, I’m greeted with a scene of colorful chaos. A box balances on its side on the edge of a high shelf, most of its contents now on the floor around June’s feet. She’s keeping the box aloft with both hands, but doesn’t have the height to shove it back into position.

“Here, let me help you.” I step into the small space behind her and reach above her head to stabilize the cardboard container before she ends up concussed.

“I don’t need your help.” Reluctantly, she releases her grip.

“Okay.” Disappointed and a little hurt by her obvious annoyance at my presence, I give the corner a final shove to guarantee we’re out of danger. “You’re welcome.”

“I said I was fine.” Continuing to face the shelves, she doesn’t turn her head to speak to me. In fact, she sounds downright angry.

“Got it. Well, I’ll get out of your way.” Resigned, I decide to abandon my mission and retreat to the safety of my own business, both literally and figuratively.

What happens next is more her fault than mine. Had she used a step stool and not tipped the box over, there wouldn’t be balls of yarn strewn across the floor, creating a minefield. Easily-tripped-over round objects that cause me to lose my balance and reach for the closest available thing to stop myself from landing on my ass.

Unfortunately, I grab June by the waist, surprising her. She’s not prepared to act as my anchor. Unstable, we both stumble backward.

Lucky for June, I break her fall. Unlucky for me, she lands on top of me.

We’ve never even hugged before this moment. I think we might have shaken hands once when Dan introduced us, but the memory isn’t clear. There wasn’t an electric shock when we first touched or met eyes, no love-at-first-sight zings upon initial contact—unlike now when my body is on high alert that we’re not only touching but lying flush against each other.

“I’m so sorry!” June wiggles, her movement drawing my attention to her clothes. How did I not notice she’s wearing a full skirt made of thin material? My imagination easily erases its existence altogether.

“Don’t apologize. This was completely my fault.” My words come out a grunt as I try to catch my breath.

My hands still grip her waist, making this position more awkward by the second. Unbidden, my fingers flex against her softness. Bad idea. Feeling my dick thicken, I tell myself not to move, not to even breathe. Oxygen is overrated.

Shifting on top of me, she bends her knees and gets her feet under her enough to stand up in a single, ninja-quick movement. Instead of waiting for me to stand or extending a hand to help me, she exits through the door and closes it behind her.

I’m left sprawled out on the floor, balls of yarn and possibly a needle poking me in the back. “No good deed goes unpunished,” I mutter to myself as I scramble to my feet. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Synopsis
Solomon Sanders doesn’t have time to fall in love. Until a stunning, skittish, single mother forces him to pause and recognize just how empty and hollow his busy life has become.

From the start, it’s been ingrained in Solo’s DNA to fight.

Fight for what he believes is right.

Fight for the people he loves.

Fight for the traces of good in a place which tends to be filled with a variety of bad.

Fight for survival, so at some point, his life will quiet down and find a normal pace.

He wasn’t ready for the impact his secretive, shy, obviously out of place new neighbor was going to have on him. And never in a million years was he prepared to fall head over heels for her and her young daughter.

Now, he’s facing the most important, and the hardest fight he’s ever fought… the battle to win Orley’s damaged heart.

Orley Vincent’s heart is full of fear, leaving no space for love. Until a big, brash, brawler of a man forces his way in and makes her realize facing her fears is the only way she can ever be free.

From the start, Orley was groomed to believe she wasn’t good enough.

She wasn’t the perfect daughter. Or student. Or girlfriend.

But, she has always been the best mother she could be to her daughter, Noble.

Keeping Noble safe has always been the one thing she was determined to do, which ironically, is how she ended up on the wrong side of the tracks, living next door to an unlikely hero. Orley’s a woman on the run. She had no idea her frantic sprint was going to land her in the tattooed arms of a man ready to teach her how to fight for herself… and for love.

Excerpt
“What did I tell you about lurking around my place, Skinner? I don’t fucking like it.” The guy’s voice was a low growl. Intimidating without even trying. “I don’t fucking like you.”

Out of habit, I reached back and covered Noble’s ears with my hands. She wasn’t new to foul language, but I didn’t need her repeating this stranger’s garbage words, which she absolutely would at the most inopportune moment.

My eyes widened as he shook the lurker hard enough to snap his head back and forth comically. The smaller man whimpered and clutched at the hands locked on the front of his dirty coat.

“Let me go, Solo. I was just having some fun. She’s a prissy bitch. You’ve seen her walking around here like her shit don’t stink.” The pleading was wasted. The larger man was clearly unmoved.

The new arrival’s massive arms tensed and flexed as he practically threw the other man on the ground. I noticed he was dressed in nothing more than a dark t-shirt even though it was chilly outside. The short sleeves showed off more than his impressive build. In the faded street lights, I could hardly make out the designs that were inked over almost every visible inch of skin. That wasn’t an uncommon look in this neighborhood. Gang tattoos, prison tattoos, and general outsiders who called these streets home tended to rock some serious ink, but this guy’s looked more deliberate and artistic than a simple statement piece.

As soon as my attacker was back on the ground, the bigger guy stepped forward. I reflexively cringed as he lowered his big, booted foot down on the other man’s unprotected private parts. A wail of agony shrieked through the air, and I realized belatedly I should be hauling ass for my apartment, not standing around waiting to see how this brutal display of street justice played out.

I clutched Noble’s hand in mine and briskly jogged the last few yards to my apartment building. I lifted Noble over the sleeping homeless man and hustled up the five flights of stairs to our floor. The elevator had been broken since before we’d moved in, not that I would dare let either of us get trapped in a small place with anyone from this complex.

I was a panting, quaking mess when I finally slammed the door. I dropped to my knees and pulled my daughter into my arms, covering her tear-streaked face in kisses and whispering soothing words over and over again.

There was no way this could be our new normal.

But it was.

Noble deserved so much better than this.

I sighed, pushing her hair off her precious face. “You know what, sweets?” She blinked big, watery blue eyes at me and shook her head. “I think we both need cake.”

She nodded and cuddled close to me.

It wouldn’t occur to me until much later that I hadn’t bothered to shout a thank you or shown any appreciation at all to my savior. I had no clue if he was any better than the scumbag who had grabbed me, but he had at least kept my daughter safe, so I owed him, even if he was one of countless things in this forever dark place that scared the life out of me.

People didn’t help other people in this neighborhood… but he had stopped and helped me, whether his intentions were altruistic or not.

And I owed him… well… at the very least, more than a piece of cake.

Excerpt
Jack: Stopping by the station tomorrow?

I laughed at his transparency and typed: Are you requesting a bakery delivery?

Jack: Nope just want to see you.

I shook my head at that. Pretty sure you only want my baked goods.

Jack: That too.

My stomach flipped at his comment. As much as I wanted to pass it off as Jack being friendly, I couldn’t. He was flirting. My mind raced with the possibilities. Was he finally making a move? God knows, I’d never made one. I turned the mixer off, covered the batter, and placed it in the fridge overnight. I would fry the donuts in the morning.

I wanted Jack to see me as a strong, independent woman. One he could see himself with. I just had no idea how to be that person.

I looked down to find flour on my pajamas, so I quickly changed. I checked my phone when I finally eased under the covers.

Jack: Sweet dreams, Ms. Baker.

Synopsis
Centuries ago, the royal house of witches in Vernanthia split into two factions: House Cambridge and House Montgomery. These two houses warred with each other for an age, causing widespread bloodshed and death. Those without magic—the Nulls—suffered the most. One day, a favored daughter of the Nulls was slain. With her dying breath, she cursed the covens to know no peace until love was possible between the houses.

That curse had long since been forgotten—until now.

Julian Montgomery is the reluctant Prince of House Montgomery and Rowan Cambridge is in no rush to become the Queen of House Cambridge. Both heirs long for freedom from their birthright obligations. When fate throws these two star-crossed lovers together, it sends them on a collision course with destiny that neither could have predicted.

Shakespeare’s classic Romeo & Juliet is reimagined in this compelling drama about two young people drawn by fate into an unwinnable situation. If you think you know how this story ends—think again!

Excerpt #2

Underneath the window, a trellis crept up the wall, vines of ivy weaving in and out of the wood. I cupped my hands over my mouth and breathed out to try and put some heat into them. My heart began to beat a steady rhythm against my chest as I placed a booted foot on the end of the trellis, my cold hands less painful than the pit of magic in my stomach.

Creeping up the wall, I managed a quick incline, resting my butt on the window ledge as I considered that I might just be mad enough to knock on his window and beckon him to open it up. The wind whipped my braid against my face as I lifted my head and gave a gentle tap.

Nothing happened, so I tapped again, this time hearing a heavy footfall come toward the window. For a split second, I feared that the Montgomery heir would open the window, pushing me to my death before I could even blink, but as I perched myself on the window ledge, I rolled my shoulders and braced myself for whatever reaction I received.

Synopsis
Jordan O’Neill isn’t a fan of labels, considering he has a few. Gay, geek, a librarian, socially awkward, a nervous rambler, an introvert, an outsider. The last thing he needs is one more. But he when he realises adding the label ‘asexual’ might explain a lot, it turns his world upside down.

Hennessy Lang moved to Surry Hills after splitting with his boyfriend. His being asexual had seen the end of a lot of his romances, but he’s determined to stay true to himself. Leaving his North Shore support group behind, he starts his own in Surry Hills, where he meets first-time-attendee Jordan.

A little bewildered and scared, but completely adorable, Hennessy is struck by this guy who’s trying to find where he belongs. Maybe Hennessy can convince Jordan that his world hasn’t been turned upside down at all, but maybe it’s now—for the first time in his life—the right way up.

Excerpt #3
Jordan

I didn’t even notice that the room had cleared out. Merry had pulled up a chair at my side, but Hennessy sat with his knees between mine, holding my hand while I cried.

I fucking cried.

Through my stupid, traitorous tears, I caught the end of a silent conversation between Merry and him, my Headphones Guy.

Hennessy.

And then Merry rubbed my back before she walked out, and Hennessy squeezed my hand. “She’s just gone to get you a drink of water,” he said gently.

“I don’t know why I’m crying,” I said, wiping my face with my free hand.

“Because it can be overwhelming,” he said. His voice was calm and soft. “Because it can be life-affirming and scary as hell, all at the same time.”

I nodded. “I don’t want another label, you know? Because I have enough. I have more than enough. Too many, probably, you know for a geeky book-nerd gay man with so many levels of social awkwardness Freud would need an elevator, but the labels fit. And I hate that they fit. Everything that was said here tonight was like it was said for me, like I was saying those things. I didn’t want this to happen,” I said, shaking my head, fighting more tears. “I wanted to come here and, well, that’s not exactly true. I didn’t want to come here at all; it was Merry’s idea. She suggested that I look into what being asexual meant. After my 683rd failed attempt at a relationship, she thought maybe I should see if I ticked any boxes on the ‘How To See If You Could Be Asexual’ questionnaire on Teen Vogue, and after I realised that I could almost tick all the boxes, I decided I didn’t want or need another label. So then I had to come here tonight to shut her up. I was going to prove her wrong and then I could go on living my best life being not asexual but just a gay man who didn’t actually want to have sex. A socially awkward, geeky book-nerd gay man,” I amended through more tears, “who doesn’t actually want to have sex. I’m sorry for crying. I wasn’t expecting the emotional dump, but I wasn’t expecting to feel so… lost and found. Like I once was lost but now I’m found, kind of like the song, which is cheesy as fuck and I didn’t mean it to sound like that. I just didn’t realise how hard I’d been trying to fit in with the real world, trying to be normal, when my normal was here all along. Because I really am asexual and it hit me like a metric fuckton of bricks that there’s actually nothing wrong with me.”

And then there were more tears.

“Because that’s my truth, even if I thought there was something wrong with me, and fuck knows I’ve been told there was, many times,” I said, wiping my face. “But there’s not. I’m asexual, and that’s my motherfucking truth whether I like it or not.”

Hennessy smiled at me. With his perfect lips and perfect teeth, his pretty blue eyes, and three-day scruff. He looked so different without his headphones, like seeing someone who normally wears glasses without them. “There’s nothing wrong with you,” he said, still smiling, still holding my hand.

“I’m sorry, were you not here for the geeky book-nerd gay man with so many levels of social awkwardness Freud would need an elevator conversation?”

He laughed at that. “I believe I was, yeah.”

“Sorry about that. I tend to babble a lot when I’m nervous. And swear. Well, I say fuck a lot even when I’m not nervous. I don’t have Tourette’s or anything, I just like the word fuck. The noun and adverb, even the adjective, not the verb obviously because I’m asexual. Apparently. So there is definitely no actioning of the word.”

Hennessy chuckled. “No actioning of the word, got it.” He still had a hold of my hand, and I liked it. As in, really liked it. My Headphones Guy was holding my hand, and he was smiling at me, in what I think was not in a bad way. I mean, his smile was kind and his eyes were smiling too, if that was even possible. I mean, no it wasn’t possible—eyes could not physically smile, I got that—but damn, they sure looked happy.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked.

“A little weirded out,” I answered. “Not gonna lie. I didn’t want to admit the asexual thing to myself for a long time, and I’m thinking it will take some getting used to. Like breaking in a pair of Doc Martens, ya know? Like they’re uncomfortable and tight and basically kill your feet until they’re the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever wear. They become like a second skin, and I’m pretty sure this whole asexual thing will be like that.”

He made a thoughtful face. “I like that analogy.”

“And it’s even weirder, because you’re my Headphones Guy and I had no idea you’d be here, but here you are and now you’re holding my hand and I cried in front of you, which is not how I wanted our first meeting to go. Believe me. I had visions of it involving me not being so… well, so me. And doing all the talking, because I tend to talk a lot when I’m nervous, which I think I’ve said already—”

“I’m your Headphones Guy?”

Oh fucking fuckity motherfucker. “I said that out loud, didn’t I? To your perfect face, and what kind of perfect name is Hennessy, by the way? Because—”

A loud peal of laughter broke through the door when a couple, a guy and girl, stumbled into the backroom, their arms around each other, obviously intoxicated and handsy and half kissing, half laughing, until they realised the room wasn’t empty.

I shot to my feet and pulled my hand away from Hennessy’s.

“Oh, sorry guys,” the girl said.

“Didn’t mean to interrupt,” the guy said. He took his hand off her arse to wave it. “Keep doing what you’re doing. We don’t mind. We thought this room was empty.”

“We weren’t doing anything,” I said quickly.

“Excuse me,” Merry said, sliding in around the drunk couple. She held three bottles of water. “Sorry, it took forever to get served. They’re really busy.”

I’d never been happier to see her. “Oh, thank God.” I grabbed her arm and turned her back toward the door. “We need to leave. I called him my Headphones Guy to his perfect fucking face.”

Merry shot Hennessy a look and held out a bottle of water for him. He took it, still smiling, though somewhat confused. Then Merry looked up at me as I dragged her to the door. “To his face?”

“What was I supposed to do? You left me unsupervised!” I stopped at the couple who were still standing in the doorway, and only just then I realised what the guy had meant when he said they thought the room was empty… “Oh praise baby motherfucking Jesus, I hope you have antibacterial wipes.”

Now Merry was hauling me out through the crowded pub. I yelled back at the couple, hoping they’d hear, “At least wipe it down afterwards, we have meetings in there!”

We burst through the crowd onto the street and Merry looked up at me and sighed. “What else did you say?”

“What didn’t I say?” I answered. “I was a mess, crying all over him because of the whole asexual thing, thank you very much. Then I was nervous and we both know how well that ends. And I think I might have told him that he was my Headphones Guy, that he had a perfect face and a perfect name, because who the fuck calls their kid Hennessy, and now he thinks I’m a raving lunatic because you. Left. Me. Un. Supervised.”

Merry cracked her bottle of water, took a long drink, sighed, then hooked her arm around my elbow. “He really is very good looking,” she said as we began the walk back to my flat. “I can see why you’ve been crushing on him forever.”

I took a swig of my water. “Fucking hell, I wish this was wine. Where is Jesus when you need him?”

“But we were already hanging out,” Mallory reminded him and the look Sam gave her bordered on hysterical. “What? What’s so funny?”

“We all know I’m the third wheel here and the two of you would like nothing more than to be alone, so…I’m leaving,” he said, walking back into the kitchen to put the beer back in the refrigerator. “I’m gonna go home and tell Mom what the plan is–I’m going out to be a good cousin, while you’re here doing…I don’t know…Jake.” He winked. “You two have fun!”

Jake knew he didn’t let out a breath until the back door closed and he saw Sam walk down the deck stairs from the living room window. “Well…that was…awkward.”

“Just a little,” Mallory agreed. “Ugh…why is my brother such a dork?”

Laughing, Jake shifted them until her head was on his shoulder. “I wouldn’t call him a dork, he’s just a little…”

“He’s a dork. Trust me. We’re twins and I’m allowed to say it.” She shook her head. “He’s going to be snarky about this until he leaves.”

“About what?”

“You and me. Us. The fact that he knows what we’re doing.” She groaned. “Now, every time I mention seeing you or doing something, he’s going to make some sort of doofus comment about how I’m doing you. I’m telling you, he’s the worst.”

But Jake couldn’t help but laugh. He didn’t have any siblings so he didn’t understand the dynamics, but from where he was sitting, it was all pretty comical. The fact that they each other and had such obvious affection for each other was a pretty amazing thing. Maybe it was because they were twins or something. All he knew was that he hadn’t met many siblings with the kind of relationship Sam and Mallory had.

Plus, he liked knowing Sam looked out for her when he couldn’t.

And that one single thought had him going still.

This wasn’t going anywhere–this was about passing the time and getting her out of his system. He wasn’t supposed to be thinking about his feelings or hers. This was temporary. They both saw the end before they started up again, so why was he suddenly feeling concerned about how Mallory was going to be when he wasn’t around?

“Jake?” she asked softly, looking up at him. “You okay?”

He nodded. Right now, he didn’t want to talk. Hell, he didn’t want to think either. All he wanted was to feel–feel Mallory’s body against his. Feel her skin under his hands. Feel her breath mingling with his.

Standing, he gently tugged her to her feet before plunging his hands into her hair and giving her a searing kiss. If she was surprised by the sudden change of events, she didn’t show it. If anything, she kissed him back with equal abandon.

So good, he thought. Kissing Mallory was always so damn good…

When he had invited her to come home with him earlier–before Sam showed up–Jake envisioned them coming in and talking and maybe sharing some lazy kisses before he seduced her into staying the night. But as Mallory pressed up against him and purred, he was pretty sure nothing was going to be slow and lazy, and that he was the one being seduced.

And he loved every minute of it.

Without breaking the kiss, they maneuvered across the room and down the hall, stopping once so he could back her against the wall and grind against her. She tore her lips from his and sighed his name like a plea. Reaching down, Jake lifted her until her legs wrapped around his waist and it took every bit of self-control he possessed not to take her right then and there. Her dress was bunched up at her waist and the barely-there panties would be gone with only the slightest of tugs…

“Bed,” he growled against her throat even as he continued to rub against her. “I want you in my bed.”

“Then take me there,” she said breathlessly.

Easier said than done, he thought, forcing himself to walk the last ten feet to his room. At the side of the bed, he simply let himself fall and kept Mallory in his arms. They laughed and rolled until they were comfortable and then he sank back into the kiss.

Mallory tugged at his shirt and once she had it pulled free of his trousers, her nails scraped up his back and it gave him chills. Sitting up quickly, he ripped the shirt off–buttons flying in every direction.

“Wow,” she panted. “That was incredibly sexy.”

“Oh, yeah?” he asked, his own breath coming out roughly. “How do you feel about this?” His hand snaked under her dress and he tugged her tiny panties off–the sound of the fabric ripping seemed insanely loud in the room.

“Oh!” she cried as her hips bucked off the bed. Jake knew what she wanted and he was more than happy to give it to her.  In a flash her dress was off. He peeled her bra off with his teeth as she writhed beneath him. “Jake…”

Once he had her completely naked, his self-control completely vanished. His mouth and hands were everywhere. While he licked and suckled at her breasts, his hand was ruthlessly teasing her between her legs. Watching Mallory lose control was one of his favorite pastimes and as he urged her on, he knew it would always be this way. She cried out his name again and again and again and each time it ratcheted his own arousal up more and more.

He hated to move away from her even for a second, but he still had half of his own clothes to discard. Mallory reached for him as he moved away and he smoothed a hand across her stomach. “Soon,” he whispered. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Synopsis
You ever have an out of body experience? Like one of those moments where you’re standing on a street corner watching yourself do something monumentally stupid? Something you know you shouldn’t do but you just can’t help yourself?

Three weeks ago, Trent and I were deep into the Honeymoon stage of love, I swore I wouldn’t be the first one to rock the boat—Lord knows with our two Irish tempers it would happen soon enough—so when he made me promise to keep my nose and our grandmothers out of his investigation, I did.

It didn’t hurt that his head was buried between my legs at the time either. But then Daisy called me begging for help and what kind of bestie would I be if I shut the door in her face? That’s right, a sh*tty one. So I packed up our grandmothers and their gogo boots, g-strings and pasties to get to the bottom of things. Only problem is if Trent catches us I’ll be dead meat, folks.

My name is Shelby Whitmore, Funeral and Obituaries columnist for the San Diego Metro News and most likely to be single again if I survive this sh*t. But hey, at least I’m still a hit with the blue hairs . . .

Excerpt #4
“We’re running out of time, Shell,” Granny says as gently as she can.

“But—” I start.

“There is no time.”

“Then what do we do?” I ask, not knowing at all that that one little sentence spoken in a breakfast joint in Rancho Bernardo would change the course of my life irrevocably.

“We have to find out who is doing this, honey,” Granny says.

“But how?”

“We’re going undercover.”

“I don’t understand,” I tell them.

“We’re going to George Washington’s,” Marla says brightly.

“To the strip club?” I ask, confused.

“Everyone knows there’s always a trick working the back of the club,” Daisy says like we’re talking about what kind of jam we want on our toast. Incidentally, I am no longer vacillating between strawberry and orange marmalade.

“A trick?”

“A hooker,” she says seriously, and I feel my eyes go wide. “A working girl.”

“There’s a hooker working George’s place?” I whisper-shout.

“Of course not,” Granny says, shooting me a Don’t be stupid look. “But we need to trap a hooker killer.”

“And Christina and Stacy were both working the back room at Girls! Girls! Girls!” Daisy adds when I looked confused. “It’s the strip club off the 5, just past O’side.”

“And what can I get you ladies this morning?” the waitress asks as she steps up to our table, interrupting my world exploding because there is no way I could have heard them correctly. And if I did, Trent is going to kill me. Guess I don’t have to have that birth control talk after all.

We go around the table giving our orders before she leaves to put them in. I sit there sipping my coffee for a minute before I realize that I have to find out once and for all if my friends are really about to pimp me out.

“And I have to be this hooker?” I ask hesitantly while throwing up prayers to Jesus, Joseph, Mary, and the damn camel that I misheard them. They don’t want me to be a hooker, a job that is against the law in most of the fifty US states.

“Yes,” Daisy affirms.

“But . . . but . . . why me?” I ask.

“Well, most of the johns know me, seeing as how I used to be in the business,” she explains. “And no offense to the grannies, but no one is going to pay to do them.”

“None taken,” Granny agrees.

“Of course, dear,” Marla says like Daisy just asked for an extra chocolate chip cookie after dinner.

“So, as you can see,” Daisy begins. “You’re up.”

“I’m up?” I ask.

“You’re up,” Daisy confirms with a nod. “We’re going to make you into the best trick there ever was.”

“But I can’t be a trick,” I shout, losing my tenuous grip on my control.

“Why not?” Daisy asks.

“Because, for one, it’s illegal!”

“So what?” She shrugs.

“So what?” I repeat. “My boyfriend is a homicide detective!”

“Trent’s cool,” Daisy says.

“He’s not that cool!”

“Maybe he doesn’t have to know,” Marla says quietly, and I know I’m so incredibly screwed.

“Yeah, I—” I start to reject the notion, but I’m interrupted by the server bringing a huge tray of food to the table.

“Here we go, ladies.”

After that I dove into my eggs Benedict like it was my job and completely forgot to tell Daisy, Granny, and Marla that I was not going to be their prime hooker and I most definitely wasn’t going to keep it from Trent either.

But like I said, I was already screwed.

Excerpt #1
A shiver rushed over her. She did not want to turn around. She didn’t.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have to.

Langston Brooks—all six feet two of hard alpha male and the person she was trying to avoid—stepped up beside her. “Morning.”

Her skin burned as his gaze licked over her. And she was covered head to toe in winter gear!

When she refused to meet his stare…or even return his greeting…he turned his attention to the council. “You asked to see me?”

“Mmm hmmm.” The Chairperson’s voice turned to a coo, and she batted her eyelashes as though she were watching a Magic Mike show live in Vegas.

Oh, good grief. “We’re wasting valuable time.” She glanced at her watch only to realize she wasn’t wearing one. Involuntarily, her eyes flitted up to meet Langston’s, and her heart skipped a beat.

Laughter shimmered in his dark soulful eyes. The lights glinted off his wavy chestnut hair.

God, she loved those eyes. And that hair.

“I…” Her voice went croaky. She swallowed back the cotton in her mouth. “I—”

“Langston, dear, how would you like to be the new safety officer for the snowboarding championship?” Clydelle batted her eyes several more times. Her throat closed.

No. Just no. “I don’t think that’s a good idea—”

“I’d love to be considered,” said Langston, smiling at her like a cat who’d just eaten an entire pet shop full of canaries.

She pulled her stare from his squared jaw. From his mocha eyes. From his delicious looking mouth.

Heat curled through her, settling in places it shouldn’t.

Dammit.

Excerpt
“What’s Scotty like?”

“He’s a total handful. Seriously, my mom should rent him out to schools—one afternoon with him and it’d be enough to turn teenagers off from having sex for life. Kids are hard work.”

“Oh yeah?” He suddenly perks up, and I blush realizing I just brought up sex. It’s not something we’ve discussed at all before.

“Not that I’d know. I mean, I’ve never…I haven’t…you know…”

He starts to laugh at my complete awkwardness.

“I mean, I know people do it—obviously they do. I’m sure you’ve done it. I mean, I know you have.”

He cocks an eyebrow at me. Oh my God! I am actually talking to Chase about his sex life.

“Oh, sorry. That’s none of my business. It’s just, you know, rumors at school and stuff.”
He shakes his head, but I can see he’s amused.

“I’m sorry, I just—what I mean is, I haven’t ever—”

“Liv! Relax. I get it.”

My face is probably the same shade as Sophie’s favorite lipstick right now. I cannot believe how ridiculous I am.

“It’s a shame though.”

“What is?”

“You not wanting to have sex.”

My jaw hits the floor.

“I mean, you’re an athlete.” He stretches his arms up over his head, all casual like we’re having a perfectly normal conversation. “Your stamina would be great, and my guess is you’d be pretty good at it.”

I just sit there, my mouth opening and closing like a goldfish, at a complete loss for what to say while he nearly kills himself laughing at me. He’s so busy laughing that he doesn’t have time to duck when I launch a pillow at his head with all my strength.

A love story that survives the test of time.

Keith McKallister is the king of the stoners. You know the type. Every school has one – the hot, fun, dopey guy beloved by the student body but despised by, well, just about everyone else. He spends his early mornings in the ocean and his days trying to get to class on time. Life is as easy as it gets until one poor choice too many catches up with him and he’s forced to reevaluate his path.

Samantha Anderson sits in the front row. You know the type. Every school has one – the quiet, faceless, studious girl who fears the taunts of her peers and fades into the background. Life has never been simple for Samantha, and it’s about to get a little more complicated when Keith slides into the seat beside her with a partnership plan designed for his benefit only. But what Keith brings to the table is more than either of them could imagine.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Nothing’s wrong. It’s just – I’ve never been kissed before. If, you know, that’s what you were going to do. Maybe you weren’t, and I totally misread the whole thing, and if I did, I’m sorry, but…”

Once I caught the grin on Keith’s face, I stopped rambling.

“I was going to kiss you, but I didn’t realize you needed to make an outline first.”

“More like a rough draft,” I added playfully.

“I’m thinking getting you into bed would take a full dissertation.”

“Whoa. You need to slow down, Keith. I won’t go past a term paper with you.”

“We’ll see about that,” he answered confidently.

His playfulness drew a smile to my lips. “No, we won’t.”

He grabbed me again, and before I could think, he pressed a quick kiss to my lips. “There. Now you’ve been kissed. Stop making it weird.”

He let me go, picked up his surfboard, and started jogging toward the water.

My fingers found my lips and I grinned like a loon before picking up my own board and chasing after him.

Synopsis
Presley McDaniel lives her life from moment to moment.

Making permanent decisions means obligation, and that would force her to stop being the family disappointment. Waitress, fitness instructor, dog walker … you name the hourly job and she’s probably held the position.

But when her grandmother can no longer run her book shop in Fawn Hill, a town so small it barely has its own zip code, Presley steps up to help.

The move from bustling city to green pastures may be exactly what she needs to sort out her life. But she didn’t ask for that happy ending to include a gorgeous veterinarian with an all-American smile and a penchant for snuggling puppies. The good doctor is reliable, responsible, and just the kind of man Presley has always avoided.

Love and commitment are predictable.
So why, the moment she lays eyes on him, are they all she wants?

Keaton Nash has never questioned his steady path.

His brothers may tease him about settling into his father’s passed-down role of small town veterinarian, but Keaton has never minded his rural roots. And after tragedy struck two years ago, he has a duty as the eldest Nash man to look after his family.

What he doesn’t need is the sexy, flighty stranger who shows up in town and gets his broken heart beating again. Presley McDaniel is a distraction, a red-headed temptation that is the definition of a bad idea.

He’s barely recovered from the love who left him to chase bigger dreams, and this woman is bound to do the same.

Except for the first time ever, he wants to abandon stability.
She makes him want to be reckless.

Excerpt #2
“Well, Dr. Nash, how adventurous of you.”

I look up at the water tower in front of us, and the butterflies that have taken up residence in my gut flutter madly. When he said he had something else in mind, I didn’t imagine it would be so …

Cool.

This is exactly the kind of spontaneous that speaks to my soul, and the fact that the man who just kissed the pants off me has brought us here is exciting.

I’m tempted to stay down here just to kiss him more. Climbing will delay us, and, my lord, I’ve delayed too much with this man for too long. If I’d known Keaton Nash could kiss that way, that it would be so toe-curlingly amazing … I would have done it sooner.

My fingers itch to touch my lips or to dive back into his hair. Ever since we left his office, I’ve had to physically restrain myself from jumping him. The only thing that stopped me from asking him to come up to my bedroom when we dropped Chance off at home was my grandmother sleeping in the next room.

But he’d been the one to suggest this mystery rendezvous, instead of going to the town bar. Or a mattress. I had to appreciate that. He’s taking things slow, which was great because lord knew I was weak enough to have sex with him right there in his exam room. At least one of us was trying to control ourselves. And I also kind of preferred not to air our connection yet. Since we’d gone to dinner, random people would stop me on the street and ask how Keaton and I were doing.

The residents of Fawn Hill were nosy as shit, and I wanted to stay in the bliss bubble for a while.

“Always wanted to do this … but was too chickenshit. Being with you makes me feel like I can be a badass even if I’m home before midnight.” He chuckles.

I bring out the crazy in him … I’m not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. “Let’s go up.”

Keaton follows me up the rickety, long ladder. It didn’t look like much of a climb from the bottom, but as I reach the top and shimmy onto the platform, I gulp as my eyes search the darkness for the ground.

“Didn’t think it would be such a long fall.” The railing suddenly seems very unsafe.

“Don’t tell me you’re afraid of heights. You come from the city with the tallest buildings in the country.”

Keaton finds my hand and when his fingers lace through mine, I feel marginally better. “Those buildings also have air-conditioning and Starbucks on the middle level cafe floor. This is completely different.”

“But beautiful.” Keaton points up.

And I’m met with the biggest tapestry of stars I’ve ever seen. It’s like they all got together and knitted a quilt of bursting light in the sky.

“And if you still don’t feel steady, how about a drink?” I can make out his grin in the dark.

He unscrews the bottle and holds it to his lips, his head tipping back to invite the liquor. I think he’s going to swallow and hand me the bottle, but he bypasses that completely and goes straight for my mouth.

This kiss is more insistent, spicy with the liquor burning between our tongues. I’m intoxicated, and it has nothing to do with the alcohol sliding down my throat. Keaton goes to pull back, but I keep a tight hold to his face, the scruff of his well past five-o’clock shadow scraping against my palms. He chuckles into my mouth, a hoarse, manly sound that has me feasting on his lips.

Arousal sneaks over me slowly, like an all-consuming fog, wrapping its luscious tendrils around my arms, legs, belly, and down to my core. I have to lean against Keaton for support, my legs are threatening to liquefy. The spark that has started inside me, where that hot nub of sensation burns, is begging to be satisfied.

“I feel like a teenager, sneaking out to meet a boy.” I break off our make-out session and giggle.

I’m too wound up already … and the humid summer night air is doing nothing to help. If I don’t put the brakes on, we’re going to be doing a lot racier things than I was doing as a seventeen-year-old.

“Well, I have already seen your underwear, and bra might I add, so I think we’re a little more advanced than teenagers.”

“I don’t know what you were doing as a teenager, but nowadays, I’m pretty sure second base is akin to being prude. Get with it, old man.”

Ordinary women like me know we shouldn’t fall for beautiful men like Travis Zehler, one of the hottest cover models in romance fiction. But, sometimes, we can’t help ourselves.

Excerpt #2
We headed to my author table. On the way, we said hi to the author and her assistant who was next to us. She had baked goods at her table.

We took our seats, and Harper said, “That is a good idea.”

“What is?”

“The food. I saw some other authors who had candy and chocolate.”

I smiled devilishly at her. “Oh, I have something even better.” I pulled up the long tablecloth and pulled out a box I’d told Harper to leave alone earlier.

“Ooh … what is it?”

I opened the box and grinned.

“Holy shit.” She looked up at me. “Are those penis pops?”

“Hell yeah. They give a whole new meaning to cocksucker.”

Harper pulled one out. “I wanted these for my bachelor party, but Wendy said no.” She curled her lip.

Wendy was her sister-in-law and the person who’d been in charge of Harper’s bachelorette party after Ian begged her to let his sister do it. Harper had regretted it ever since.

I pulled out a handful and set them on the table. “It’s not the same, but now, you can have a little fun with them.” I wiggled my eyebrows and sat back in my chair.

“Hold that thought. I’m going to run to the restroom real quick,” Harper said. “I drank too much Diet Pepsi.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll be right back,” she said before sprinting out of the room.

I felt the chair behind me tap mine.

“Penis suckers, huh?” a smooth voice said.

A shiver went down my spine, and I slowly turned my head to see Travis. He smelled amazing. Like man with a hint of cologne.

His eyes were on my table, so I took the opportunity to study him. Even up close, he was gorgeous. Barely any skin imperfections. This guy must have great genes.

His gaze met mine, and he smiled, his lips full and his dimples popping out. I wanted to touch one for some crazy reason.

He raised an eyebrow, and I realized that he had just asked me a question.

“Oh,” I said as I blushed. “Yeah. You know, romance author, romance books, sex”—I held up a sucker—“cocks. It all ties together.”

He looked like he was trying not to laugh.

“What’s funny?”

His brow went up, as if he was trying to make himself look innocent, and he shook his head. “Nothing.”

I dropped my hand. “You think it’s stupid, don’t you?”

Why do I care? I just met the guy.

“No. Not at all.” He bit his bottom lip.

“What?” I smiled. “I know you want to say something.”

Travis shook his head.

“Okay, I know you’re thinking something.”

“I don’t know if I should say.”

“Just say it.”

He looked around and then met my eyes again. He lowered his voice. “I’m just picturing all these women sucking …” His gaze moved down to my mouth.

“Cocks?”

That same look crossed his face. The one where he looked like something was funny, but he didn’t want to share.

I rolled my eyes. “You just wanted me to say cock again, didn’t you?”

This time, he didn’t hold his laugh in.

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

“Nope.” His eyes widened. “Hey, your one eye …”

“I know,” I said a little embarrassed. “It’s two different colors.” For as long as I could remember, my right eye had a large spot in it to the point it was almost half-brown. My parents didn’t remember when it first appeared either.

“Wow. That’s so cool. I didn’t notice it this morning.”

“Thanks. And I had my glasses on. It was harder to see then.”

“Hey, Travis, I found my markers,” Angela called out.

I looked to see her approaching her table.

“Talk to you later.” He smiled at me and scooted his chair back up to his table. “Where were they?” he said to Angela.

I faced forward, tuning out their conversation, and saw Harper walking up to the table. She sat down and leaned toward me.

“Was Travis just talking to you?” she whispered, excitement on her face.

“Yeah. He was giving me crap about our suckers.”

“What?” She straightened, and in a loud voice, she said, “Our suckers rule.”

We both looked over our shoulders to see if Travis would respond. He shook his head, but I didn’t know if it was at us or at Angela.

I laughed. “I don’t think the kids say rule anymore.”

“What would you know about that? You’re a year older than me.”

“Research.” My last book was about two people in their early- to mid-twenties. Not quite New Adult, but I’d still wanted to make sure I had the lingo down.

“Whatever.” Harper took out her phone and shoved it in my hand. “Look at what I found.”

I looked down and sucked in my breath. “Holy crap.”

It was a photo of Travis. He was wearing only a pair of dog tags. The picture only went down to the waist, but it was low, and I was pretty he wasn’t wearing any pants. He had spectacular arms, pecs, abs, and the famous V on his hips.

I pulled the phone closer. “How did I miss this?”

“I don’t know, but it’s good, right?”

I quickly peeked behind me. “Oh my God, yes. How did I not know he existed?”

“I don’t know because I found about five books he’s on the cover on.”

“I need to come out of my writing hole a little more often.”

Harper laughed and took her phone back. She hit the screen a few times and showed me another. And another. In a couple, he had shorter hair. In some others, his face was free of facial hair.

“I think I like him better with the beard,” she said to me.

“Me, too,” I said, surprised.

“Wow. I’m surprised to hear you say that after Andrew.”

Andrew was a guy I’d dated a few years back who’d let his beard grow. And grow and grow. I’d hated it. It had almost ruined any sort of beard for me on a man, no matter how short. Even Harper didn’t like beards as much after knowing my ex.

“Me, too.”

Travis was different from other guys I’d been interested in before, minus the hot body. I wasn’t going to lie. I’d always liked muscular men.

But there was no denying that I was attracted to Travis. I’d thought I was past the age of feeling boy-crazy, but he just did something for me. And my body. I wanted the man.

I put Harper’s phone down. “I’d better stop looking, or I’ll be the one who’s going to need a restroom.”

Harper frowned for a second until she got my joke. She laughed until the first reader walked up to our table.

Excerpt #1
Jesus. Not only did the woman turn him on just by breathing, she could bake too. The cookies Hammer and Deacon were wolfing down smelled delicious. But not as good as her.

“Save me a few,” he ordered, unable to look away from a blushing Addy.

“You can let me go now, Noel. I’m not going to fall.”

Deacon snickered. Hammer cleared his throat.

Much as he didn’t want to, Noel released his hold on her narrow waist. “Sure.” He didn’t step back, though.

She did. “Ah, I should go.”

“Not yet.” Noel felt frustrated. He’d been doing his best to get along with Thing 1 and Thing 2, but the idiots weren’t helping. Neither guy would admit to being the baby’s father, though they acknowledged what a great time they’d had in Mexico. The DNA results they’d sent in to a special lab would take a few weeks. Until then, he refused to let the guys go home.

The baby was not his problem alone. The dirty diapers, the feedings, the constant crying—they were annoying but bearable. The kid’s adorable smiles and laughter, admittedly, warmed that coldness inside him without even trying.

The two assassins crowding his private space, invading the schedules and normalcy of his home, however, gave him constant headaches. He’d ached to shoot at least one of them ten times a day, and they’d only arrived forty-eight hours ago.

He wouldn’t have minded Addy dropping by before now, and that surprised him. He’d actually wanted to go next door several times over the past few days, to see her pretty eyes and watch her smile. Silly, but the baby was making him feel more human than he liked to admit.

At least with Hammer and Deacon in residence, he wouldn’t be stuck playing babysitter forever. No matter how cute the kid was, a baby wouldn’t fit Noel’s lifestyle. Nor would a sexy, innocent neighbor who was looking way too good in that sweater and jeans.

Remember, Noel, she’s too good for you. Way out of your league.

“Hey, Addy, how’d you like to grab some dinner sometime?” Deacon asked out of the blue.

Noel should have poisoned the playboy years ago. He glared, his control once again shot to hell. “She can’t.”

“I can’t?” Addy sounded confused.

“She’s got a date with me later.”

“I do?”

He nodded and guided her toward the front office, where he pulled them both inside then closed the door. Now standing with her in a smaller space, just the two of them, alone, he felt himself relax.

“Um, Noel? What’s going on?”

She didn’t appear pleased. Crap. Probably should have asked her out instead of ordering her.

“I was thinking you and I could get dinner tonight, if you’re free. I’d like to thank you for being so nice about the baby.”

She blinked. “You don’t need to take me to dinner for that.”

“I’d like to.” He’d like to do more than dinner with her, but complications arising from sex wouldn’t work in his favor. Still, even knowing that, he couldn’t stop thinking about how he’d take her.

She turned pink again. “Well, I don’t know…”

“Think of it this way. We’ve lived next to each other for two years and I know next to nothing about you.” A lie. He knew everything about her…on paper, at least. And that was part of what scared him, his fascination for a woman with a background and lifestyle so different from his own.

“Whose fault is that?” she retorted, surprising him with a bit of backbone. “I’ve tried to be friendly.”

Addy had always seemed so pleasant, even a bit meek around him. He liked her sudden bite. A lot. “My fault entirely,” he admitted. “I’m always traveling, and when I get home, I’m so tired I’m normally not at my best.”

She bit her lower lip, and he swallowed a groan. “You are pretty crabby. But it doesn’t help that I probably seem pushy. It’s just that we’re neighbors, and I was hoping we could be friends. But Noel, we don’t need to go to dinner if you don’t want to. I swear the cookies was the last time I planned to bug you. I really did just want to see the baby.”

She was giving him an out. An easy way to avoid her. Yet he kept seeing Deacon flirting with her in his mind’s eye. “No, really. I’ve wanted to ask you out for a while, but since I’m always gone, I didn’t want to seem friendly then aloof when I left again.”

“So why the change now?”

Yeah, why? “Because I might be sticking around longer.” A truth he hadn’t wanted to admit, even to himself. The job was wearing on him. He found himself wanting to extend his stays at home more often than not.

“Oh.” She gave him a tentative smile. “Okay then. When did you want to go out?”

“How about tonight? Six-thirty? I’ll come over to your place and we can take my car into town.”

“Sure.” She smiled wider. “I’d better go. See you later.” She left before he could add anything.

Always quick on the exit, that woman.

He followed her out into the living room, only to watch the front door close behind her.

“So,” Deacon said.

“So,” Hammer repeated. “She’s got great…cookies.”

“I’m such a fan of her…chips,” Deacon added, trying not to laugh.

Noel glared. “You two are about as mature as a couple of fourth graders.” Like one of Addy’s students. He knew all about his neighbor, including the fact she didn’t do subterfuge. Addy was just as she appeared, an elementary school teacher, currently single, no pets. She relied on her friendship with Solene Hansen to fill her lonely nights, when she wasn’t having dinner—and nothing else—with Brent Morgan.

That prick.

“What’s the deal with the sexy neighbor?” Deacon wanted to know. “You sure as shit didn’t want me going out with her. But from what we know, you live like a monk.”

“Sad but true.” Hammer sighed. “Dude, get a life.”

“Firstly, don’t call me dude.”

Hammer cocked his head. “Firstly?”

“Secondly, I have a life. One devoted to my job, my passion for gardening—”

“Are you thirty or seventy?” Hammer guffawed. “Gardening? Like shoveling dirt over potatoes or dead bodies?” He laughed harder at his own joke. “The bodies I understand. I—”

Gardening,” Noel reiterated, doing his best not to grab the Jericho hidden under the back of his sweater and shoot Hammer with it, “and—”

“Nights filled with research on your lovely single neighbor. Don’t ask.” Deacon held off the obvious question. “I hacked your computer. You are seriously stalking that woman, Noel.”

Synopsis
The only reason Lauren entered the Hashtag Hunt was for the $10,000 grand prize. She needed seed money for her startup, and it sounded easy enough: twelve hours to text twelve photos to someone called the Wizard. For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner. Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six.

While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

Excerpt #2
“I’m sorry. Are you saying ‘hottie?’ ‘In the wild?’” Scott didn’t hide his confusion. “That’s not a thing, is it?”

“Oh yeah,” Ivy said. “It’s a thing. My Facebook friends post pictures of hot guys out in public all the time. Subways, airports, Disney World, construction sites, tattoo parlors, in line for coffee, carpool…” she trailed off with a shrug. “Wherever.”

“Are you serious?” Scott looked at Brenner and said, “I’m not sure men could get away with a ‘Honey in the Wild’ Facebook group.”

“Please, Scott. We ladies are making up for lost time,” said Ivy. “A handful of hotties on Facebook doesn’t compare to the tons of T & A on the Internet.”

All who heard Ivy’s voice nodded, and Margot shouted, “Preach!”

“Okay. Let me see if I understand what you’re saying,” Jess said as she sat up straighter in her chair. “Women take and post pictures of hot men they see out and about in town.”

“All. Day,” confirmed Ivy.

Jess left her chair and went behind the bar. She bent down and then reappeared, plopping her oversized purse on the bar top. She fished her phone out of the bag. “Show me the way.”

“Get on Facebook.” Ivy walked over to Jess. “I got you.”

Lauren looked at Brenner. Pointing to Ivy and Jess at the bar, she said, “I did not take your picture for that Facebook group. I needed it for this contest, I swear.”

Brenner said, “I’m flattered you found me attractive enough for your photo.”

“I knew it!” Ivy shouted from the bar. She looked up from Jess’s phone. “I told her any normal guy would love knowing he was a hottie in the wild.”

“Well,” said Jess, looking at her phone, “Facebook just got a hell of a lot better.” Lauren watched her move her thumb across the screen. “And these guys have no idea these pictures are being taken?”

“Plenty of women get caught,” Ivy said with a pointed look toward Lauren. “Most play it off by pretending they’re texting someone or taking a selfie. A friend of mine once acted like she was looking for a coupon when she was busted in line at Dick’s Sporting Goods.”

Jess looked up from her phone and said, “And some women run away and hide in the ladies’ room.”

“Take it easy on her,” Brenner said to Jess. He turned his attention to Lauren and said, “It’s worth it if the picture helped you win the contest.” When Lauren didn’t respond, he asked, “Did you win?”

“The contest doesn’t end until tomorrow. I have to take twelve pictures, and yours was number five,” Lauren responded. “If your picture is accepted, I’ll get a text with instructions for number six.”

“And if it’s not accepted?” Brenner asked.

“Then I’m out of the contest. First contestant to have twelve pictures approved before the deadline wins.”

“Wins what?” the crowd asked.

“Ten thousand dollars,” said Lauren.

Synopsis
A romance author, a cover model, a book signing … a crush.

Ordinary women like me know we shouldn’t fall for beautiful men like Travis Zehler, one of the hottest cover models in romance fiction. But, sometimes, we can’t help ourselves.

When I meet him at a book signing, my attraction to him is instant. I’m infatuated, and I can’t stop thinking about him.

Even though I have doubts he’d ever be interested, I invite Travis to attend a book signing with me. And he says yes.

My fantasy comes true when he takes me to his bed, and the more time we spend together, the more I see that Travis isn’t some object to be desired.

He’s a man with a past. A man who’s been burned. A man who’s learned to keep his guard up.

I want to show him he can trust again, but when our confidence in each other is shaken, I begin to wonder if happily ever afters are only for my romance novels.

Excerpt
Travis looked away from his phone as he heard Sydney move on the bed. She rolled toward him and put her head on his shoulder. Her brown hair was messy, and her eyes were puffy from sleep.

He thought she looked adorable.

“Mmm … good morning,” she said, her voice hoarse from sleep.

“Good morning.” He kissed her forehead and slid an arm under her head.

She brushed her hand down his chest and abdomen and back up. “Mmm … it’s been a long time since I woke up to a man in my bed.”

“Are you forgetting last weekend?”

She smiled up at him, her eyes half-closed. “That was the hotel bed. I’m talking about my bed.”

“Ah … got it. And I’m glad I could break your dry spell.”

She looked to his phone, which he was holding up. “What are you doing?”

“Just scrolling through Instagram.”

She continued to rub his torso. “That’s your app of choice, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. I used to be on Facebook, but it got to be too much. My personal page, my professional page, groups …”

“I forget how young you are sometimes.”

He wrinkled his forehead. “I’m not that young.”

She kissed his chest and smiled. “Young enough that you’re in the group of twenty-something-year-olds that make me feel old for using Facebook.”

“I never said you were old.”

She laughed. “I know. You should hear my niece.”

Travis smiled. “I can imagine.” He opened up his messages and scanned through them. At the same time, he noticed that Sydney looked away. He assumed it was to respect his privacy.

The woman was a keeper.

He went through them, saving some to reply to later and replying to a few right away. “Oh my God.” The next one he hadn’t been prepared for. He should have been, but those kinds of messages still surprised him every time.

Of course, Sydney looked up at his exclamation.

His first instinct was to hide the image on his phone, but he was innocent.

“Is that … hold on.” She reached over and put her glasses on. “Holy crap.” She burst out laughing. “Those are some huge boobs.” She grabbed his cell out of his hand and zoomed in and out. “Wow. Those babies are impressive.” She handed him back his phone. “Do you know who sent the pic?”

Travis just stared at Sydney. She’d laughed. She hadn’t gotten mad or upset. She thought it was funny.

He cleared his throat. “Uh, no. It’s some random fan.”

“You, too, huh?”

“What do you mean, you, too?”

She rolled her eyes. “I’ve gotten my fair share of dick pics.”

“You have?” He was surprised.

“Yeah. I guess it’s because I write romance. Apparently, the conclusion is, I write about sex, so I must want pictures of strangers’ dicks. When are men going to learn that women don’t ever want that, and if they do, they’ll ask for it?”

Travis laughed. “Do you keep any of them?”

She looked away from him. “Do you?”

“Don’t judge, but sometimes, I show some of my friends before I delete them.”

“You perv. I can’t believe you,” she said, her voice full of sarcasm.

Travis’s eyes widened. “You do it, too.”

“Duh. Of course.”

“So, do you have any on your phone right now?”

“Uh … no.” She looked up at the ceiling.

“You liar.”

“Okay, I have one because I’ve never seen anything like it.”

He made a come-here motion. “Show me.”

“Okay. But it’s your turn not to judge me.” She grabbed her phone from her nightstand, did a couple of moves on her phone, and passed it over to him.

“Holy shit.” He reached down and cupped his dick.

“Right? It’s a Jacob’s Ladder. Ribbed … for her pleasure.” Sydney laughed at her joke.

He was horrified. “That looks so painful.”

“I suppose it is.”

She took her phone back. “I’ve always thought it would be cool to have sex with a guy with a penis piercing, but this is just too much.”

This caught his attention. “You want to have sex with a guy with a penis piercing?”

“Technically, I said it’d be cool. I want to know if it feels good or if it feels weird.”

Travis took her phone out of her hand and threw it on the bed as he rolled Sydney under him. “How about I show you what feels good right now?”

She grinned up at him and spread her thighs.

Travis pushed into her, groaning at the sensation of her wet, slick heat surrounding him.

He kissed her neck and drove into her over and over. Sydney moaned as she lifted both legs and sank her nails into his back. He thrust into her until he brought them both to completion, whereupon he collapsed on top of her.

He quickly fell to her side, so he didn’t suffocate her and pulled her against him.

“Feel good?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she said, panting on his chest.

“And I did it all without a cock piercing.”

Sydney laughed and kissed his sweaty chest. “What are you doing today?”

“I’m hoping you have a gym nearby I can go to.”

“You can go to mine. Do you go every day?”

“Yep. I might take a day off, but it’s usually only once a week. Or, if I can’t go, I do something else to get exercise in.”

She groaned.

“What? You don’t go every day?”

“Hell no. I do four days a week.” She looked up at him. “Does this mean you’re going to break it off with me?” Her eyes widened, and she shook her head. “There I go again, opening my big mouth. And, this morning, I can’t even blame the wine.” She got up on an elbow. “Feel free to ignore me.”

Travis laughed. He liked that she saw them together. The best part was, he wasn’t scared, nor did he feel the need to push her away.

He pulled her back down. “I’ll forget what you said if you go work out with me.”

She rolled away and jumped up from the bed.

He sucked in a breath at her sexy, naked body.

“I take it back,” she said as she walked toward her bathroom. “You can remember me sticking my foot in my mouth.”

Travis laughed.

Five minutes later, he joined her in the shower.

An hour later, she joined him at the gym.

Two hours later, they met up in the shower again.

About the Book
Title: FLEETING
Series: The Nash Brothers #1
Author: Carrie Aarons
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 14, 2019
Links: Goodreads
