My Review Young adult time travelling dystopian with a side of romance? Sign me up. This book is every genre I love rolled into one. The premise is fascinating — a teen girl has the ability to travel to the future where she discovers an earth she doesn’t recognize. Something in the very near future brings about devastation of apocalyptic proportions, and Alicia may be the only one who can stop it. While her ability to time travel isn’t fully explained, it has to do with experimental drugs that only affect Alicia in a way that allows her to time jump. At first, she believes she’s dreaming, except it’s far too real and she has lasting physical reminders of her journey. Of course her friends think she’s crazy at first, but soon they’re on board. However, the more time Alicia spends in the future and the people she meets there, she’s less sure disrupting the future and preventing their existence is something she wants to do.
Plot The story is well-plotted and intriguing. It’s a little slow in a couple of spots early on, but more than makes up for it later. As Alicia navigates her two worlds, more than a few twists are thrown her, and the reader’s, way, adding complexity and intrigue. My only real complaint is that although this is the first book in the series, it just sort of ends. Not on a cliffhanger, but more like in the middle of the story. I kept trying to swipe my Kindle to see if there were more pages, because surely that couldn’t be the end.
Characters Most of the characters were interesting enough, but this is really a plot-driven story, so they don’t have a lot of depth. I don’t know if that’s all that necessary in this type of book, though. Alicia is well-rounded enough as the protagonist, so I was able to overlook the lack of depth in the supporting characters.
What I Enjoyed About PRESCIENT 1. Premise. Time travel is my favorite genre of all time.
2. Alicia. She’s a strong female lead, and although she’s written by a male, she comes off completely female.
3. Zombies. While they’re not called that, it’s what they are and including them in this dystopian adventure was pure genius.
4. World Building. The author does a decent job of setting up the rules for his world. I look forward to exploring more in the next book in the series.
5. Twists. Loved all the twists and turns. Some I saw coming, but most I didn’t.
Bottom Line A fun, unique time travelling dystopian zombie adventure.

“Do you know where we are?” Kael asked.
He sat up and leaned on one elbow. The sheet slipped off his body, revealing every rippling muscle. She snapped her gaze back up to his face.
“I don’t see how that matters.”
“We are on a Byern warship. This is the only room on the ship with quarters this nice. Otherwise, you can sleep below decks with the crew. Is that what you want?”
She shook her head. “Surely, there must be somewhere else. I can’t be expected to sleep here. What will everyone think?”
He laughed a bitter, rough laugh. “Now, you are concerned about this?”
“If I am to be carted back to Byern, then I should have the luxuries of an Affiliate.”
He held his hand out. “And you are afforded those luxuries.”
Cyrene opened her mouth to argue, but he cut her off.
“This is a war vessel, not a pleasure ship. We are not on procession, like the last time you had the full attention of Byern royalty in your bed,” he said viciously. “If you do not sleep with me, in my rooms, then you sleep below decks. With the crew.”
Cyrene glowered at him. Of course, he would use every advantage that he had while he had her here. And, even though she had never slept with King Edric, it still prickled her to think that everyone, including Kael, believed that she had. But, if it irritated him to consider it, then she wouldn’t contradict him.
“So, you expect me to sleep next to you the entire time I am trapped here?”
“Yes,” he said simply. “Now, if you want to roll back over and lie on me again, I won’t object.”

Erin held my eyes for a moment but she broke away, saying, over my shoulder, “What do you want?”
I turned sharply. Erin’s mother, making a rare appearance, was standing on the threshold of the room, taking in Erin’s hand that still lay in mine. I dropped it.
“What are you doing?” Erin’s mom asked in a dull voice, her fingers trying to comb through her matted hair. She seemed lucid but her eyes were glazed and hooded.
“I’m about to take off all my clothes,” said Erin, and I hoped her mother didn’t catch my sharp intake of breath.
Her mom sighed. “Always got a clever comment, don’t you?”
“We’re just doing our homework, Mrs Parker,” I said quickly, hoping to defuse something ugly. Erin hadn’t tried to hide the fact from her parents that I was an Oxy; in fact, she liked throwing it in their faces. They didn’t prevent me from coming around but the atmosphere was always tense.
“You’re no fun,” said Erin, squinting at me. Her mother picked at her teeth. “So mom, if you don’t mind, please shut the door on the way out.”
“Actually,” Mrs Parker said, “We’re gonna leave that open.” And she shoved my schoolbag in front of the door and walked away. We could both hear the crack in the kitchen as she snapped a couple more beers out of a pack.
“With the amount that my mother drinks,” said Erin, “you’d think she’d be a lot more fun. Just because she had me when she was sixteen, she thinks I will do the same thing. As if!”
She looked up at me, frowning. “And I mean, really, it’s only you, Alex.”

“Sorry about him. I hope he didn’t say anything offensive.”
“Nothing I haven’t heard before,” she says while glancing over her shoulder at me for a fleeting moment.
“Right. Well, can I buy you a drink to make up for it?” I have no clue why I’m still standing here, but damned if I can get myself to move.
“Ohhh, I get it.” She slips her hand free from her glass and faces me. “Is this some party trick of yours? One of you approaches and acts like an ass and the other guy steps in for the rescue? It’s kind of a tired routine, don’t you think?”
Her pale eyes draw me in before my attention dips down to her lips. No lipstick or gloss. Just full, natural lips. Lips I suddenly want to pull between my teeth to see if she tastes as good as she smells.
This is new for me. This feeling of being drawn to another woman. Even after almost a year of separation, I can’t help but notice the tinge of guilt coiling inside me over being attracted to another woman. Sure, I had those random rebound hookups, but those were out of anger.
“No, it’s not a routine,” I say.
“Well, you’re not my type.” Her eyes wander to my hand, which is pressed to the counter at my side.
“And what’s your type?” I look at her. “Some guy in Armani with a money clip packed with more bills than I have in my bank account?”
Shit. Cindy’s in my head and this woman is fast becoming my target, someone I suddenly want to hate.
Although Miss Fourth of July looks nothing like my ex, she certainly reeks of money. Her clothes probably cost more than my rent at the docks. Not that I’m paying that much thanks to a friend.
But the huge Prada bag on the bar stool next to her could buy my meals for a month. And the bag is another reminder of Cindy, because the only reason why I know it’s Prada is because Cindy’s mom bought her a similar purse on our ten-year anniversary—as if that wasn’t enough to make me feel like shit. Yes, thank you, mother-in-law, for outdoing me about ten times over on my goddamn anniversary.
The woman stares at me with parted lips, not saying anything, and I get the feeling that isn’t the norm for her. There’s a slight bit of red pulling at her cheeks when she finds my eyes again.
“Well, I hate to break it to you, lady, but you’re not exactly my type either.” Okay, so I don’t even know what my type is anymore, but I’m not in the right state of mind to find out.
“Ah. You really are clever, aren’t you?” The woman’s smiling now. Her white teeth tease between her lips, but it’s the sexy way her eyes and nose smile too that has me swallowing.
“Oh yeah? How so?” I place a hand on my chest, forgetting Cindy for the moment. Hell, the way this woman is looking at me right now, I can barely remember my own name.
“You’re trying to make me want what I can’t have. You, in this case.”
I didn’t expect that. Women don’t talk like this where I grew up, but I guess New York is a whole other ball game.
“Oh really?” I’m keeping up this charade longer than I have any business to. “So you have everything you want in life, huh?”
She wets her lips briefly. “I do, in fact.” Her eyes drift away from mine, an attempt to hide a lie.
I step closer and bend my neck a little so our eyes meet again. “You sure about that?”

“Nothing I haven’t heard before,” she says while glancing over her shoulder at me for a fleeting moment.
“Right. Well, can I buy you a drink to make up for it?” I have no clue why I’m still standing here, but damned if I can get myself to move.
“Ohhh, I get it.” She slips her hand free from her glass and faces me. “Is this some party trick of yours? One of you approaches and acts like an ass and the other guy steps in for the rescue? It’s kind of a tired routine, don’t you think?”
Her pale eyes draw me in before my attention dips down to her lips. No lipstick or gloss. Just full, natural lips. Lips I suddenly want to pull between my teeth to see if she tastes as good as she smells.
This is new for me. This feeling of being drawn to another woman. Even after almost a year of separation, I can’t help but notice the tinge of guilt coiling inside me over being attracted to another woman. Sure, I had those random rebound hookups, but those were out of anger.

“Oh yeah? How so?” I place a hand on my chest, forgetting Cindy for the moment. Hell, the way this woman is looking at me right now, I can barely remember my own name.

Excerpt I push my hands from his shoulders and palm his jaw as his stubble prickles against my fingers while my hands wander up to his hair. His hat falls to the ground with a thud and I know he’s just as lost in me as I am in him, because he doesn’t even make a move to pick it up. Excerpt #1 “Help!”
Glancing up from my magazine, I turn my head toward the woods that border our property. I stop the porch swing from swaying and I listen . . . but I hear only the sound of Mom’s music floating through the open screen windows.
I glance down to the pond where my younger brother, Kevin, sits. But he’s fine, fishing pole in hand, staring idly at the calm water—just like he’s been for the past hour.
“Help!”
I lunge to my feet. That’s Travis!
“HELP! SOMEONE!”
I fly down the porch steps, and my bare feet hit the wet morning grass as I take off in a full sprint toward the woods. “Travis!”
My twin brother emerges from the line of pine trees that separate our property from our grandfather’s goat farm.
“Vickie!” Travis screams, hurling himself across our lawn.

A Whole New Look Same “stunningly addictive” story, but with a whole new look!
The new Adam & Mia covers were over a year in the making! Over the period of ten months, photographer Lindee Robinson followed the life journey of real life couple, Marcus and Elena.
When it came time for me to choose a new “face” for Adam & Mia, the beloved couple featured in five of the Gaming The System books, I knew Marcus and Elena would fit the part. I contacted Lindee for her assistance in the new look and she was thrilled, informing me that Marcus and Elena, both professional models, had so much natural chemistry together, they’d be perfect!
So we contacted them soon after their own real life fairytale wedding, but were informed that timing would not be on our side for a little while… they were thrilled to learn that they were expecting their first child. Instead of searching elsewhere for new models, however, Lindee came up with a wonderful idea. Why not document their pregnancy, the early infancy of their child and launch an epic project fit for an epic super couple?
So we did just that…over the course of ten months and three different photo shoots, we collected enough images for the new look for the Gaming The System books. Elena was eight months pregnant during their first shoot, their child, six months old at the second. For the third, Marcus and Elena recreated their own wedding, complete with Elena’s wedding dress for the cover of Adam & Mia’s wedding book. All the pieces fit into place. Lindee had taken over a thousand photos of them over the course of many hours in photo shoots. Now it was time for a new design.
I had no question that I’d go back to Sarah Hansen of Okay Creations to give the books a fabulous new look. After all, she’s the one who created their original, amazing brand four years ago when I went to her with At Any Price. And as with her previous covers, they are compelling, eye catching, classy and colorful. Covers fit for Adam & Mia.
I hope you all enjoy the new look as much as I enjoyed working on this project when I got the idea over two years ago! I’m glad they are finally ready to reveal–well….almost all of them…but I’ll be talking more about those other ones later!

Excerpt #2 Early the next morning, Lilith slipped from out the mirror in the lobby and followed Anastasia into the hotel’s opulent honeysuckle garden. It would have been the perfect place to strangle her to death too—if Lilith had resolved to do such a thing. But how to murder an old friend?
The distant bells of Coventry Cathedral commenced a triumphal tune and then proceeded to count out the hour.
Anastasia turned back, breathing in as if she detected something in the current or perhaps even tasted something on her lips.
Lilith braced herself. Had the scent of Egyptian chamomile betrayed her presence? Even if it had, she kept quiet. For a while, she observed Anastasia. More than anything, Lilith marveled at how much the young lady’s blindness had come to complement her beauty. The blank dreamlike expression in her big blue eyes made her look like an angel—something incorruptible.
Had she pledged her body to the Lord above? Might that be the source of her power?
Over to the left, someone from the hotel staff opened one of the dining-hall windows looking out over the garden. Soon the air filled with the aroma of cottage pie and fairy cakes.
Tapping her walking stick, Anastasia stepped into the sunlight which suddenly played upon her golden hair. “Lilith, would that be you there?” Like a little girl, Anastasia scratched at a few of the freckles upon her nose. “Please say something.”
Lilith resolved to remain silent. Turning to the honeysuckle, she thought back to the beginning of time—the primordial garden where that servile woman brought Adam to ruin. How did she manage all that? One day she picked that forbidden apple. Lilith looked to the hem of her gown and then deep into Anastasia’s blind eyes. Why not find someone for her? Even if she had pledged her body to the Lord above, perhaps the proper gentleman could tempt her—and ruin her.
In the end, love itself would be her undoing.
