Synopsis Born to a powerful mother and father, both highly respected in our clan for their magic and strength, I was neither powerful nor respected. I was born a null. Devoid of any of the strength or power of my clan and to make matters worse, my attempted shift into dragon form revealed I’m nothing more than a mere human.
When my mother became ill and my father abandoned us, I became the head of the household. I didn’t mind doing hard labor; actually, I enjoyed knowing I could be of use to my mother by performing the duties she could no longer do.
My life had become the same routine until I decided to step in and help an injured dragon who crossed my path. After healing them, my clan turned on me, taking me to the King to be interrogated. Now, I’m free and on the run – beginning my journey into the unknown.
I am Abigail Fiammetta. I vow to live and reclaim the shattered pieces of my life. Even if I have to kill to do so.
SHATTERED DESTINY is a new REVERSE HAREM, paranormal series. Recommended for 18+ audience, containing mature sexual content, violence and strong language.

Excerpt #3 “Come on, Abigail, this is supposed to be a learning experience not a freaking star-gazing trip!”
Seriously, it was like he could read my mind. One minute nice guy, next moment an ass.
“Fine, just tell me what is the main thing I have to do?”
He laughed, a mix of frustration and annoyance. “Just make sure an army doesn’t come through the trees and kill us all in our sleep.”
Fucking ass!
“Seriously, Abigail, pay attention,” Raphael groaned, grabbing my hand to stop me from walking into a tree.
It was all his fault. He distracted me by being a super douche.
“Okay, I’m listening,” I said, walking a few steps in front of him, making little notes about the forest in my head.

Excerpt “Kayla?”
Her eyes came up, a flash of recognition there. “Yes?”
“Are you going to sign the contract or do you have more questions?”
She picked up the pen sitting on top of the contracts that would bind the two of them together for the next six months. They would reevaluate the relationship at that point in time, but for the next six months, she was his. His bodyguard. His submissive.
Bought and properly paid for. He would take care of her and she would give him what he needed.
She signed with a flourish and sat back, a gleam of curiosity in her eyes.
He was curious, too, and there was zero reason to not satisfy their curiosity. Hard and soft limits had been gone over. They would find their communication style as they went along. But first she should understand that he was in control.
“Come sit on my lap.”
She didn’t hesitate. She stood and turned, shifting so she could maneuver her way onto his lap.
Her weight came down on him and he wrapped an arm around her waist. Damn but she made him feel big. He’d seen her take out a man twice her size, but sitting here in his lap she felt small and vulnerable, and fuck him but that did it for him.
He slid a hand along her knee, letting himself indulge in the silky smooth feel of her skin against his palm. “Did you do as I asked?”
He was well aware his voice had gone husky, deeper than normal.
“Yes, Joshua.” She squirmed the tiniest bit, as though trying to find a comfortable position. It might be difficult for her because she was sitting right on his cock, and it was harder and thicker than he could ever remember it being.
“How can I trust you?” This was all part of the game he loved so much. Here he could let go and play out the darker of his impulses—to control, to take, to possess. See. Want. Have.
“You’ll have to check,” she replied. “Though shouldn’t we go inside?”
He reached out and picked up his cell with his free hand, pushing one number and connecting to the security room. He put them on speaker. She needed to understand what she was up against in order for the game to be fair. “Landon?”
“This is Burke,” the deep voice replied. “Shane’s on patrol. What can I do for you?”
“Burke, I would like to fuck my submissive on the third-floor balcony. Is anyone watching us? Can you see any cameras pointed our way?”
A low, masculine chuckle came across the line. “No, Mr. Hunt. And given the angle relative to the beach, you should enjoy your evening without worry. The only peepers I would worry about would be your next door neighbor, and Jared is out for the night.”
“I wouldn’t care if he wasn’t. Keep up the good work.” He hung up and his hand tightened. “I would prefer when we’re playing that you don’t question me like that. I know where I want to fuck you. I know when I want to fuck you, and I’m in charge. If I want you in the middle of a crowded freeway, your only response is a yes or a no. Not to question me.”
She seemed to relax back against him, as though she was giving up the struggle and choosing to submit. “Yes, Joshua. Yes, I understand, and yes to the sex. Please.”
He liked the breathy little please and loved how she squirmed. Still, he wasn’t absolutely sure she’d obeyed him, and he was a man who required proof. He slid his hand up her thigh. “Spread your legs for me.”

But when her bold attempts to snag his attention (“Oops! But Ty is determined to salvage the date so he starts a game to pass the time. Only what Ty learns makes him realize he may have just botched a date with the perfect woman. How will he ever win her now?

Excerpt Claire bit her lower lip. “Dammit. This is why I can’t have real relationships. I can’t trust anyone.”
“You can trust me.”
She sighed. “I don’t even know you.”
“Get to know me.”
“Jake…” She looked away.
“One date, the real deal. Jake and Claire.”
She was tempted. He could tell. She didn’t give him a no right away and now she was searching his face, looking for the truth. He leaned forward, brushing his lips against hers, coaxing. He pulled back and met her eyes, fully prepared to do this all night if he had to. Coaxing, charming, easing his way in. He’d thought coaxing would be too difficult with the way he wanted her, but having her pull away was much harder.
She spoke quietly. “You don’t want that kind of spotlight on you. It’s not pretty.”
It wasn’t a no.
“I want you, and whatever comes with it, I don’t care.” He cradled her face with both hands. “I want Claire.”
She closed her eyes, and he dropped his hands to her shoulders, sliding them down the satiny smooth skin of her arms to her hands. He took her hands from behind her and pulled them forward, just holding them. She didn’t pull away. He sensed she was leaning toward letting him in.
Finally she spoke, the words filling him with elation. “We’d have to keep it quiet.”
Not that he wanted to keep it quiet. He just wanted to be with her so much he was willing to play the game her way. For now. He kissed her softly and spoke against her lips. “Is that a yes?”
“Yes.” She shoved him away. “Now stop kissing me. One date. Jake and Claire.”
“Why do I have to stop kissing you?”
“Because you want to get to know me, remember?”
“I can get to know your body first. Get reacquainted.”
She laughed. “Yeah. I’ve heard that one before.”
He figured she probably did. Everyone wanted the sexiest woman alive. He’d seen the magazine giving her that honor and her bikini body splashed everywhere. He knew that kind of attention didn’t always bring out the best in people, and he realized he had to stand out from the pack.
He stepped back and helped her off the table.
“Such a gentleman,” she teased.
“It’s all an illusion,” he replied, not bothering to hide the edge of unsatisfied lust in his voice.
“Story of my life,” she said breezily. “I’ll text Hailey to let you know when I’m free.”
“At least give me your number now that we’ve established how much you lust for me.” She laughed, and he grinned. “I’d like to stop going through other people.” He pulled his cell from his pocket, punched in the code, and handed it over.
She typed her number in while saying, “I never give this number to anyone. Only a handful of people have it on a need-to-know basis. Can you handle that kind of responsibility?”
“What do you think?” It was an honor and, hell, he’d earned it with all his restraint.
She met his eyes, fire back in hers. “I hope so. I swear I will hunt you down—”
He cut her off with a kiss. Not a gentle one. The kind that said he’d be taking what he wanted and she’d damn well like it. She sagged against him.
When he was good and ready, he broke the kiss and snagged his cell from her limp hand. “Later, Claire Jordan.”
She fought back a smile and then beamed a big one at him, stunningly beautiful in her well-kissed, hot-for-him state. “Later, Jake Campbell.”
He grinned and headed out the door. Now that was more like it.

Synopsis I don’t know what love is anymore.
Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.
You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?
Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.
Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem–but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?
That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.
It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.
Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.
But it will make for one hell of a story….

SMOOTH-TALKING COWBOY (Gold Valley #1) by Maisey Yates
Synopsis Welcome to Gold Valley, Oregon, where a rough-and-tumble rancher and the girl next door are about to learn that opposites attract.
Olivia Logan has a plan: win back her ex by making him see what he’s missing. But first she needs to find a man who’s willing to play along. With his laid-back cowboy charm and knack for getting under her skin, Luke Hollister is an unlikely hero—but he wants her help convincing her father to sell him land, which means he needs her as much as she needs him.
Luke likes his life—and his women—uncomplicated. So why does good girl Olivia heat his blood like no one else? She’s always been off-limits, but the more time they spend as Gold Valley’s hottest new “couple,” the more real it’s starting to feel. Luke was supposed to help her win back another man…not keep her in his arms. But now that he has her there, he’s not sure he’ll ever let go.
.
.
—————————————————————————-
—————————————————————————-
Excerpt #2 Luke Hollister was kissing her.
He was only the second man to kiss her. The second man to ever put his mouth against hers. But at the moment, she couldn’t even compare the two experiences. She was frozen, and Luke was still, too, but he was… Him.
He tasted like Luke. Like sunshine and hard work. Like whiskey that lingered on his lips. And like a whole lot of trouble.
It was more than just taste, more than just the strange sensation of a mouth that was an unfamiliar shape pressed against hers. It transcended those physical things.
And it went somewhere deeper.
She was on fire. Melting. Her legs were weak, her stomach trembling. It was as if she had never been kissed before at all. That’s how different it was.
His hand was so big, and it was pressed against her lower back, like he owned her. His other hand came up to cup her face—rough, callused—skimming over her cheekbone. He didn’t take the kiss deeper. Didn’t part her lips.
It was over in less than a second.
A chaste kiss. A simple kiss.
That left nothing chaste or simple remaining in her entire body.
There was a pulse pounding insistently between her legs, a slick wetness that had built up in defiance of everything she knew about herself. Her heart was pounding, her breasts heavy, her nipples tightened into painful points.
It was over. Over long before she was able to move or think or react at all. Over long before she realized they were still standing in the middle of the Gold Valley saloon, rather than in some moment that existed outside of space and time.
Luke Hollister had just kissed her in front of everyone.
Bennett was there. She remembered that too late. She remembered everything too late. Including why they were doing this. Of course. He was making a show, as he had promised he would do. And he was definitely trying to get a rise out of her, which she expected, because he was Luke.
All of that made sense. Except none of it made sense. Not inside of her anyway.
“Throw the dart,” he said, his mouth so close to hers it would take nothing for her lips to touch his again. Nothing at all.
Then he withdrew, taking a step back and leaning against the table again, all cocky arrogance and that kind of masculine swagger she hated. She did. She hated it. And right now she was pretty sure she might hate him, too.
She turned away from him, drew her arm back and threw the dart. And it missed.
She hadn’t missed a bull’s-eye without meaning to in more than ten years.
Hot, angry tears pricked her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Because that was just stupid. This was a game. That was all. It was supposed to be a game where they made Bennett jealous. Where they made him think that he was in danger of losing her.
It was supposed to make Bennett feel wild and unpleasant things; it was not supposed to make her feel wild and unpleasant things.
Too late she remembered to look over at Bennett. And when she did, she had to force herself. He was facing away from them. For all she knew, he hadn’t even seen the kiss.
“He saw.”
She blinked, feeling numb. “What?”
Luke was looking at her, his expression grave. “Bennett saw the kiss,” he said.
And just like that, she felt about two feet tall. Because not only had he read her mind just now, it confirmed to her that Bennett was all he had been thinking about during the kiss. She hadn’t thought of Bennett until after. Much, much after. But Luke had been aware the entire time. And then, when she had been standing there feeling vulnerable and reduced, desperately trying to remember the purpose behind this entire interaction, he had read her. Unerringly.
Meanwhile, she couldn’t read him or Bennett or anything. She couldn’t even read herself.
“Good,” she said, as if it was all she cared about. As if there was nothing more conflicting inside of her than whether or not they had managed to affect Bennett.
To say nothing about how she had been affected.

Synopsis A spy who specializes in seduction
Kayla Summers was an elite CIA double agent, working inside China’s deadly MSS. Now, she works for McKay-Taggart London, but the Agency isn’t quite done with her. Spy master Ezra Fain needs her help on a mission that would send her into Hollywood’s glamorous and dangerous party scene. Intrigued by the mission and the movie star hunk she will be shadowing, she eagerly agrees. When she finds herself in his bed, she realizes she’s not only risking her life, but her heart.
A leading man who doesn’t do romance
Joshua Hunt is a legend of the silver screen. As Hollywood’s highest paid actor, he’s the man everyone wants to be, or be with, but something is missing. After being betrayed more than once, the only romance Josh believes in anymore is on the pages of his scripts. He keeps his relationships transactional, and that’s how he likes it, until he meets his new bodyguard. She was supposed to keep him safe, and satisfied when necessary, but now he’s realizing he may never be able to get enough of her.
An ending neither could have expected
Protecting Joshua started off as a mission, until it suddenly felt like her calling. When the true reason the CIA wanted her for this assignment is revealed, Kayla will have to choose between serving her country or saving the love of her life.

Synopsis They call me Angel of Death, but my name is Nisha Blake. I am Shepherdstown’s living urban legend. My life, a tale of the macabre.
People avoid me like the plague. Well, everyone but my friends. They don’t see the Angel of Death when they look at me. They see poor, broken Nisha—the bully victim, suffering from vicious night terrors and vivid hallucinations.
Things take a turn for the worse when Blaze shows up. He’s a too hot, tattooed, bad-ass MMA fighter from London, hell-bent on getting to know me. Since he walked into my miserable life, my hallucinations graduated to a point where I can no longer differentiate between fiction and reality.
I am insane. Broken beyond repair. Or so I think until—
I uncover a secret form the past—a link between all the deaths, my hallucinations, and my night terrors. It’s then I understand I’m not the Angel of Death.
I am something else. Someone else.

Excerpt #3 “Love, what are you doing here?” Seth demands to know.
“I can’t stand by and watch as you bring Chaos upon the world.” I swore an oath to protect my people, and I have turned a blind eye to his cruelty for too long. No more.
“What are you saying, love?”
“It will end. Today.” I turn the ankh to the left and watch as the heavy stone gate shifts to the side.
“Are you insane?” he yells. It’s the first time I hear fear in his voice. The man who walked through the underworld to battle sixty-four demons so he can be with me is petrified.
Even his soldiers stumble backward. They fear no demon, no sword, no death, but they’d be insane not to fear my grandmother. She is, and always has been, the most merciless ruler of all. When humanity rebelled against her husband, my grandfather, she was the one who punished them. All of Egypt remembers that day, and no one in his right mind would ever dare disobey her rules. Which is what I am doing right now. Entering the Hall of Eternal Life is forbidden. A mortal would die a cruel death should he step foot inside.
“Please,” Seth begs. “Please, don’t do this. Did you forget your promise?”
I take a deep breath. “I will always love you, but sometimes love isn’t enough.”

DROPPING IN (Snow Crossed Lovers #2) by Carrie Quest
Synopsis Natalie Berensen has one short summer to ace her writing class and convince her parents she’s not a hopeless screw-up. No more changing her major once a month, taking time off to travel, or random friends-with-benefits. She doesn’t have time for distractions or hook-ups, not even if her longtime crush is in town for the summer and living in her basement. Who cares if he’s a snowboarding god with six pack abs and a hashtag devoted to his apparently magical penis? She’s not interested.
Until she is.
Ben Easton’s focus and self-discipline is legendary. He’s built a career as a professional snowboarder by training harder than anyone else on the mountain and steering clear of anything that doesn’t take him one step closer to his goal: Olympic gold. Then his best friend crashes in the half-pipe and Ben drops everything to take care of him. No more training. No more competitions. No more snowboarding. It’s over.
He’s back in Boulder to help with Adam’s rehab, not fool around with his little sister’s best friend, no matter how much he loves her laugh or the way her ass looks when she walks up the stairs. There’s no way in hell he’s going anywhere near Natalie.
Until he does.
Contains: a grumpy guard cat with a taste for blood, discussions of Ents as phallic symbols, and plenty of sexy times.
—————————————————————————–
Excerpt #4 He stops in front of our house, pulling me to the edge of the sidewalk, and stares into my eyes. His face is serious, his expression searching, and when he brings one finger up to trace the line of my cheekbone, I have to force myself not to look away. Because I feel like I’m being seen for the first time.
It’s terrifying, but then I notice the softness in his eyes and the lazy curve of his lips as he smiles. He’s not judging, not secretly wishing I had a smaller ass or a stronger work ethic or friends who don’t drive bartenders to drink with disgusting stories. He’s just standing there, appreciating me. Liking me.
Maybe even starting to love me.
“You’re gorgeous,” he whispers. “Inside and out. Everywhere.” His hand moves to cradle the back of my head, guiding my lips to meet his for a tender kiss.
He sighs when we break apart. His hands drop to my waist, pulling me tight against him, and I reach up to put my arms around his neck.
“I want you,” he says. His voice is low and raspy, and I can feel his hardness against my belly. “So much. But we don’t have to do this tonight.”
“What? Why not?” Is he kidding?
He waves his hand back toward the Hill. “I should take you out, just the two of us, not drag you away from your friends like I’m a fucking caveman who can’t keep his dick in his pants.”
“Tunic,” I say idly. I run my thumbs along the soft hair at the back of his neck and he shivers.
“What?”
“I’m pretty sure cavemen wore tunics.” I plant a kiss on his neck, right above the collar of his t-shirt. He smells like soap and cedar and clean male skin.
“Tunics, huh?” I feel the rumble of his voice on my lips. “Easy access. Convenient.”
“Or maybe fur muumuus? I don’t know.” I feel him shake with laughter and step back so I can look into his eyes. “I don’t need a special dinner or a night of romance, Ben. I’m not that girl.”
The smile he flashes is so quick that it’s gone by the time I reach up to kiss his dimple. “Maybe I’m that guy,” he says. “At least when I’m with you.”
Good. God. Damn.
I’m melting like the frickin’ Wicked Witch of the West after Dorothy gave her a forced ice bucket challenge. If he doesn’t stop talking, like, now, I’m going to be a puddle of goo on the Boulder sidewalk.
“I love that,” I say. And I think I kind of love you. “But do you think you can be that guy tomorrow? Because tonight I’d really like you to be the caveman who drags me to his new bed and has his wicked way with me.”
He tilts his head and pretends to think for about three seconds. “Yeah, I could do that.”

Synopsis Even a hard man needs a soft side.
Marko Sendoa isn’t a beach man. He’s not an Auckland man. He’s a hard man. Born Basque, raised in the heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, and bred on hard work, discipline, and getting the job done. It’s not easy for a rugby flanker to make it to age 32 at the top of his game, but he’s done it. Next year is the Rugby World Cup, and he’ll do whatever it takes to be on the field in the black jersey when the anthems are sung.
He doesn’t need a kitten.
He doesn’t need a pregnant cousin.
He definitely doesn’t need a too-short, distractingly curvy, totally unimpressed Maori barista and part-time pet portraitist who fills his house and his life with too much color, too much chaos, and too many secrets.
He’s getting them anyway.

Excerpt Ahead of him, the girl looked tense. The running was new, probably. Felt too hard. That had to be it, considering the speed she was going. He caught up and said, “Excuse me.”
She whirled on him so fast, he started running backward out of habit.
“I have Mace!” she announced, all but baring her teeth.
Oh. She’d heard him coming up behind her. He blinked, realized he was still jogging backward, stopped, and said, “Uh . . . no, you don’t. But no worries. You don’t need it.” There wasn’t room to conceal more than a car key in that kit she was wearing. A flippy little zebra-print skirt, and a black sports bra that dipped low enough in front to show some cleavage. She was a curvy little thing and no mistake. Not that he was looking. She was advancing on him like the stroppiest terrier in the litter, and despite her aggression, he could see the fear underneath.
First the pub, and now this. He didn’t scare women. He was careful. He put up both palms and said again, “No worries.”
She seemed taken aback for an instant, but recovered fast. “I’m not worried,” she said. “But maybe you should be, eh.”
A hint of a Maori accent there. He considered explaining that he liked blondes, but she opened her hand, and bloody hell, but she did have a tiny metal canister laced between her fingers, together with her keys. An older couple was coming toward them with a Golden Retriever on a leash, and Marko had a sudden flash of his photo in another newspaper. Staggering around, tears streaming from his eyes, Maced on a bush track after attacking a jogger. That would be a good look.
Yes, ALL the books are stand-alones except JUST ONCE MORE and FRACTURED.

THE DATING DEBATE (Dating Dilemmas #1) by Chris Cannon
Synopsis Nina Barnes thinks Valentine’s Day should be optional. That way single people like her wouldn’t be subjected to kissy Cupids all over the place. That is, until her mom moves them next door to the brooding hottie of Greenbrier High, West Smith. He’s funny, looks amazing in a black leather jacket, and he’s fluent in Harry Potter, but she’s not sure he’s boyfriend material.
West isn’t sure what to make of Nina. She’s cute and loves to read as much as he does, but she seems to need to debate everything and she has a pathological insistence on telling the truth. And West doesn’t exactly know how to handle that, since his entire life is a carefully constructed secret. Dating the girl next door could be a ton of fun, but only if Nina never finds out the truth about his home life. It’s one secret that could bring them together or rip them apart.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book is not for anyone who has to get in the last word, but it is for all book nerds, especially those who live next door to so called unapproachable gorgeous guys. There’s no debating the chemistry.
—————————————————————————-
My Review Nina, a self-described hippy-chick book nerd, and her newly single mom move in next door to brooding hottie, West. They share a backyard and a driveway, but on the surface, not much else. When an upcoming Valentines Day dance forces Nina to dodge her brother’s friend and West to evade his ex-girlfriend, they tell their prospective dates they’re going with each other. This launches a tentative friendship that becomes something more. Nina and West both have troubled pasts that interfere with their ability to be completely open with each other. But instead of this turning into one of those, “I wish they would just talk to each other,” stories, their secrets and half truths are plausible and heart wrenching.
Plot The plotting is well done with just the right amount of drama and angst. Nina and West navigate what it means to be in a romantic relationship while their respective family issues play out around them. Both feel helpless about their situations, which leads them to make choices they may not otherwise make.
The Characters I absolutely adored both Nina and West. Nina’s constant need to debate everything and her brutal honesty made her lovable instead of annoying. She sees the world in a positive light, a “glass is half full” type. West’s need to move far away from home as soon as possible is utterly relatable. Both characters experienced growth through the book, but West, more so, although I would argue he had more to overcome. Their relationship felt so authentically teen, without a lot of unnecessary drama.
Top Five Things I Enjoyed About THE DATING DEBATE 1. Playful banter. Rather than the debates causing endless fights, the arguments between West and Nina were more flirtatious than not.
2. Honesty. This concept seems simple enough — always tell the truth — and yet it is fairly foreign in most contemporary romances. The heart of most conflict is the inability of the protagonists to tell the truth. But complete honesty brings its own conflicts that was a refreshing change from the usual.
3. West. So wonderfully complex and authentic in his teen boyness.
4. West. What’s not to adore about a book-loving hippie chick?
5. Gidget. Nina’s overly-shedding lab provided some fantastic moments of comedy.
Bottom Line Delightful young adult contemporary romance that reads like a lighthearted comedy, but with more serious elements that keeps it from being fluff.

Excerpt #2 She nodded. Grassroots Winery sat in between the towns of Copper Ridge and Gold Valley, and Olivia worked predominantly in the dining room at the winery itself. It wasn’t, she supposed, the most ambitious job, which usually didn’t bother her. She liked the ambience of the place, and she enjoyed the work itself. But she had always assumed that she would marry a rancher and help him work his land. Make a home for them. The way her parents had done. That seemed silly now that she was single, and there was no rancher in her future.
She had been sure that by now Bennett would have come back to her. Was sure that breaking up with him would make him realize that he had to commit or he could lose her.
Except he seemed all right with losing her. And that was terrible, because she was not all right with losing him.
With losing that vision of her future that she had held on to for so long.
“How will I get home?” she asked.
“I could help you out with that, too, but I’ll have your car in working order by then.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Why are you being nice to me?”
That wicked grin of his broadened. “I’m always nice.”
She let out an exasperated sound and clicked the lock button on her key fob before climbing into the passenger side of his truck. She struggled to get in because of her skirt and nylons, but finally shut the massive, heavy door behind her.
“Thank you,” she said, knowing she sounded ridiculously prim and not really able to do anything about it. She was prim.
She grabbed hold of the seat belt, then pulled it forward, having to wiggle it slightly to get it to click. His truck was a hazard. She straightened, held tightly to her handbag and stared straight ahead.
“You’re welcome,” he said, stretching his arm over the back of the bench seat. His other forearm rested casually over the steering wheel. His cowboy hat was pushed back on his head, shirtsleeves pushed up past his elbows, forearms streaked with dirt as if he had already been working today. Which meant that he had likely been out at Get Out of Dodge before driving down toward town. She wondered if he had seen Bennett.
“Were you out at the Dodge place today?” She tried to ask casually.
“You want to know if I saw your boyfriend,” Luke said. Not a question. A statement. Like he knew her.
And this, in a nutshell, was why she didn’t really like Luke. He had a nasty habit of saying the one thing that she wished he wouldn’t. With a kind of unerring consistency that made her suspect he did it on purpose.
“He’s not my boyfriend. Not anymore.”
“Still. You’re wondering about him.”
“Of course I wonder about him. I dated Bennett for a year. I’m not going to just…not wonder about him suddenly.”
“I expect, Olivia, that you could go down to Get Out of Dodge on your own pretty feet and find out how he’s doing for yourself if you had half a mind to.”

Excerpt #1 As a princess, the oldest of three sisters, and future queen of England, I, of course, did the mature thing when my parents told me that I was to marry the King of Tara. I ran. Allete Auvray, noble born heiress of the Britannia empire, ran. No, I did not run away. There would be no point in that. My father would have sent guards searching for me like crazed hounds to drag me back before I even made it to the borders of our land. No, I ran only as far as my familiar old oak tree. The ancient tree that had become a sanctuary to me and my cousin, Thomas, when we were children—our place of refuge. Disregarding the fact that I was clothed in one of my finer dresses, I hoisted myself up on to the lowest branch and then continued, up and up, until I was sitting high enough that I could see the whole of my father’s lands, spreading out before me like a giant green picnic blanket. It was a beautiful and bountiful kingdom, but it was a gilded cage for me. The day that I had dreaded had finally come. I had always known that one day that I would be married off to a nobleman. As the oldest, it was my duty to either marry a nobleman worthy of becoming king of England, or marry another king in order to secure an alliance beneficial to our empire. Every decision was about power for my family, how to gain it, and how to keep it. The king who held the most land and the largest army was the one everyone else feared. It didn’t matter what I personally wanted. It didn’t matter that I would be wed to someone that I did not love, or someone that did not love me. Nothing mattered except what my father, the king, wanted.

Work hard. Play hard. I’m paid to be a nice guy on the slopes, but what I do in my off time isn’t always about making good choices. That’s the fun of living in a ski town. I stay while the women come and go.

Synopsis Cowboy fantasies. Oh boy, do I have them. I blame the shiny belt buckles and those chaps. Mother of pearl buttons, those chaps.
After getting dumped by my Not Future Husband, I’ve decided to spend the summer in Aspen exploring new adventures. First on the list is rugged, sexy rodeo champion Justin Garrison, who seems happy to accept the challenge.
What if I fall in love with the real man behind the fantasy?
Being the charming cowboy is an easy role to play. Whenever I’m on the back of a horse or riding a bull, everything’s simple, uncomplicated. Running my family’s ranch and trying to keep the past buried are a lot harder.
When my path crosses with a beautiful brunette at a rodeo, I’m not looking for more complications. Feisty Zoe Saragossa’s not a typical buckle bunny and I’m definitely not her type.
Can a city girl fall for a real cowboy?
Wild for You is a standalone, slow burn cowboy romance. It’s part of the Love with Altitude series of standalone romantic comedies set in Aspen, high in the Rocky Mountains.

Excerpt #1 A young girl marches out of one of the houses up the hillside on my right, and onto a porch. Her gaze floats across the very cluster of trees I’m standing in. I take a nervous step back deeper into them to make sure she can’t see me. My feet crunch through something—a dead plant. The grass to my left has met the same fate, and is brown and lifeless. That’s strange. It looks so out of place. How is this part dead when everything else around it is so green, so alive?
A dull ache develops in my head, but I don’t focus on it. Instead, I watch the girl. She sings a little song, and a shudder runs through me. It seems silly to be afraid. She’s so small, and I’m too far to catch all the words, but it’s something about the stars. Her hair’s so blonde it appears almost white as it cascades over her shoulders and down the back of her gray jumpsuit. The moonlight reflects against a symbol over her heart, but I can’t make out what it is. And my eyes force themselves closed when I try to get a better look.
My knees start to shake as she swipes her hand in the air, and what looks like a computer screen appears in front of her. Just like what happened to the man in my dream. The girl gazes up to the sky and back to her screen while flipping through pages of star charts. Finally, she seems satisfied and uses her finger to draw connecting lines between the stars on the chart, Andromeda. Then with a wave of her hand she moves her drawing above her head toward the sky. I follow her actions and see the same constellation she’s looking at above us.
Wow. That’s incredible.
I need to find Dylan and Maddox. I need to tell them—show them this place. With them here, I wouldn’t feel so scared. They’re never going to believe it. I barely believe it, and it’s right in front of me. But it’s here, and so am I.
Before I can move, a man with the same stark white hair, wearing a black jumpsuit, walks out of the house behind the little girl. “What did you discover?” His voice is so refined, each word spoken so clearly, but it still makes my skin crawl. I take a step back. He turns in my direction. My heart jumps into my throat, and I suck in a mouthful of air. Even hidden in the trees I feel vulnerable, exposed.
“Probably an intoxicated Stultusian tripped the Entry System Sensor. They could not have gotten too far,” a man’s rough voice says to my left and there’s a sharp pain in my temples.
Two figures down to the left march up the hill. I crouch lower to the ground and duck behind a bush to stay out of their view. Up to my right, the white-haired man ushers the little girl back in the house and the light inside goes dark.
The two men stop less than ten feet from me where the dense brush I’m hiding in starts. One man is much broader than the other. Both are wearing black jumpsuits, and their heavy boots thud against the ground with each step. My heart pounds against my chest just as loud, if not louder. I clench my hands against it to drown out the sound and stumble back farther to hide behind one of the trees.
“Has this portal to Stultus always been here?” the smaller man asks. His voice is deeper, huskier.
“Yes, and only a few Eugenicans know about it. You will learn about the other portals when you complete training.” They both stop walking, and the bigger guy presses something that looks like computer buttons on his sleeve that light up under his touch.
My head aches, or more like burns. Whatever these guys are talking about makes my brain feel like it’s being run against a cheese grater.
“What protocol do we follow?” The other man pulls out a flashlight and shines it in the brush. The light dances in front of me, slowly crawling my way.
I’m paralyzed by fear. They’re less than ten feet away; even if I could move, I don’t know where I’d go. I don’t even know where I am, or how I got here.
“Order 2-31-D.” He glances up from his sleeve to the other man. “Recite.”
The man clips his light onto his holster belt, pushes his shoulders back, and clicks his heels together. “We subdue the subject and administer one to three cc’s of Serum Memoriata to the internee’s biceps. After which, we immediately extricate.”
“Excellent. Now let us get to work.”
They each pull out a flashlight and push their way through the brush, in my direction. My head throbs so hard I have to clench my jaw to keep from screaming out, or worse, throwing up.
Crunch.
Crunch.
They push closer and closer.
This is it. I’m dead.

Excerpt #2 I assumed Hillrise Construction would have an answering service who answered the phones, considering the owner’s general hostility and disinclination to speak, so I’m not surprised when a machine picks up. The outgoing message is one of those toneless, electronic voices you get when you neglect to customize it.
“Please. Leave. A message. After. The tone.” Beep.
“Hi. My name is Megan Dunn, and I was referred to you by Suzanne Martin. I bought the Buttercup Inn and need a quote for repairs.”
I leave my cell phone number and am about to hang up when the distinct click of the line being picked up stops me. Then I’m listening to silence.
“Hello?”
I could swear I hear a low exhalation, but no one speaks.
Holy shit. It must be him. No-talking Theo with the crazy eyes. “Um…is anyone there?” More silence, but someone is definitely there. I hear rustling and a faint creak in the background, as if whoever answered has sat down.
Why the hell would he pick up the phone if he doesn’t talk?
I start to get irritated, because I’ve got the patience of a four-year old who’s missed a nap. “Okay, well, look. I need to get a quote on repairs for the Buttercup Inn. Is that something you can help me with?”
I never knew silence could be so loud. It’s absolutely deafening.
I’m about to tell him to go jump off a bridge, but it occurs to me that I could have fun with this instead of let it aggravate me. “Hey, here’s an idea. I saw this on TV once, some dumb show I forget the name of where a guy had laryngitis but had to try to warn his girlfriend a killer was headed over to her house. I’ll ask a question, and you can answer by using the phone buttons. One beep for yes, two beeps for no. And three beeps for maybe, if you feel like you might need that option. Okay?”
The silence lasts so long I start to worry he already hung up and I’m listening to a dead line, but then I hear it. A single, sharp, electronic beep.
Son of a bitch.
“Good. Okay, so…is this Theo?”
A slight pause, then a beep that somehow sounds resigned.
“Hi, Theo, this is Megan Dunn. We’ve already met. Twice, actually. Once at Cal’s Diner, and once in the backyard at Sunday and Chris’s house party a few weeks back. Do you remember?”
Beeep.
The tone is longer. More emphatic. He remembers. For some strange reason, my pulse picks up and my armpits go damp.
“Right. So anyway, Suzanne says you’re the best contractor around and I’ve already been through five other guys—that sounded wrong, but you know what I mean—so I was wondering if you’d have time to come out this week and take a look at the place.”
Two sharp, successive beeps, and that’s an unequivocal No. But I have to confirm, just in case. “No? You won’t come out?”
Beep. Beep.
Jesus. How can someone sound like such a dick using only a single button on a telephone?
“Well, fine,” I say curtly, heat creeping into my cheeks. “Sorry to have wasted your time. Have a nice life.” I’m about to throw my cell phone across the room when over the line comes a rapid mess of electronic noises.
He’s pushing all the buttons at once.
When the cacophony stops, I’m livid. Through gritted teeth, I ask, “Were you trying to tell me something there, Sunshine?”
BEEEEEP!
I decide I need a drink if I’m going to continue this bizarre conversation, so I head into the kitchen and unscrew the top of the crappy bottle of wine I bought at the store the other night. I pour some into a glass, guzzle half of it down, swallow, then blow out a breath, all the while acutely aware of the throbbing silence on the other end of the line.
Then my mouth falls open, because I’m listening to a telephone rendition of “You Are My Sunshine,” played by hitting the right keys to make the correct notes of the song.
Moody Theo has a sense of humor.
“That was interesting. Are you having fun?”
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Maybe.
I burst out laughing, because this is total insanity. “Can I just take a moment to say that this is the weirdest conversation I’ve ever had in my entire life? This even beats the time my I walked in on my dad wearing my mother’s underwear. I don’t expect an answer to that, by the way, I’m just thinking out loud here.”
