REALITY GOLD (Shifting Reality Collection #1) by Tiffany Brooks
Synopsis High school senior Riley Ozaki is desperate to change her reality after an avalanche of Internet shaming ruined her life. With her reputation and self-esteem at rock bottom thanks to cyberbullying, Riley needs to do something drastic to repair her social standing—which is why she decided to try out for a reality TV show. Suddenly, she’s dropping onto a deserted tropical island with nineteen other teens for a Survivor-style competition that she hopes will be her redemption.
With a cast of vivid characters who will stop at nothing to win the show, a cursed island setting, and a priceless treasure waiting to be discovered, Reality Gold pitches readers right into scheming web of lies, love, and betrayal. This novel is a fast-paced journey where allies may not be who they say they are, and legends abound. Riley must embrace all of life’s realities, including loss and deceit, in order to discover who she truly is.
—————————————————————————-
My Review Wow, wow, wow! What a ride!! REALITY GOLD is a non-stop young adult adventure with fascinating characters, intrigue, secrets, lies, and plot twist after plot twist that made it impossible to put down. Riley Ozaki is a down-on-her-luck teen, whose misfortune is of her own making. When she has the opportunity to rebrand herself after internet infamy, she jumps at it. The opportunity is in the form of a reality TV show, called Reality Gold — a Survivor-style teen-centered show set on a South American island that just happens to be the rumored home to a long-ago buried treasure. Riley has roots on the island; her own godfather, Miles, was killed while searching for the treasure recently and Riley herself accompanied him on one of his expeditions just two years prior.
But being one of twenty kids on an island, surrounded by cameras, may not be what Riley needs. Forging friendships under constant surveillance is tough for a girl who currently has no friends. With everyone competing for the same prize and the chance to maybe hunt for the treasure while they’re there, trust is a valuable commodity that is as hard to come by as the elusive buried gold. When one mishap follows another, cast and crew alike begin to wonder if the rumored island curse is true.
Plot Outstandingly plotted, this story moves. I loved the attention to detail throughout the story and not just with settings; everything from their surroundings, to the clothes they wear, to micro expressions bring the reader deep into the story. But they also serve as expert foreshadowing of every devious twist and turn the author throws at us.
The Characters LOVE the characters. I was up and down on Riley throughout. She’d win my loyalty, then do something stupid and make me wonder about her. At least up until the end when she redeems herself as only Riley can. The rest of the cast is wonderful. Perfect. Seen from Riley’s perspective, the reader doesn’t know who to trust either. I had all of my ideas about what was really going on turned upside down so many times, I gave up trying to figure it all out.
Top Five Things I Loved About REALITY GOLD 1. Reality TV. While not one of my favorite things to watch, although I did watch several seasons of Survivor when it first came out, it may be one of my favorite things to read. The behind-the-scenes wrangling is so much more interesting that what shows up on screen.
2. Riley. She was both annoyingly inconsistent and lovably confused about who she was and who she wanted to be.
3. Treasure hunting. Maps, and ciphers, and markers, oh my!
4. Plot twists. So many twists I nearly got dizzy, but each one was perfectly timed, completely unpredictable, and hella fun!
5. Maren. Riley’s teammate and frenemy was one of the most complex characters and I still don’t know enough about her. I hope we get more of her in the next book in the trilogy.
Bottom Line A rollercoaster ride of action with a mystery tied up with a simple romantic bow. Highly recommend!

Excerpt Crystal
“I’m going to the restroom.” I giggle to Dawn, who nods her head at me. Making my way through the crowd of people around the bar, I bend my head to watch my feet. Walking into the dim hallway, I smash into a man who has just come out of the bathroom. His arm automatically flies to wrap around my waist and bring me against him. His smell intoxicates me further, and I giggle as I try not to fall. I put my head back, looking up at him, and my smile gets even bigger. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going.” I look up into his blue eyes, and he smiles down at me.
“It’s my fault.” His voice comes out deep. “I should have looked right and left when I walked out of the bathroom.”
I throw my head back and laugh. “I get it. Like crossing the street.”
He loosens his hold on me, and I step back, finally taking him in. His hair is cut short on the side, the top longer. His t-shirt looks like he is bulging out of it, especially his biceps. Ink decorates both arms to his wrists. His jaw looks chiseled, his nose perfect. I don’t know if it’s the booze talking or not, but this man is fucking perfect. “Are you here for the convention?” I ask him, and he nods.
“Are you?” He puts his hands in his back pockets.
“No, I’m a nurse over at the hospital,” I tell him as someone walks by me and nudges me with their shoulder, sending me flying into him again. “Sorry.”
“You’ve fallen into my lap twice now, and I still don’t know your name.” He smiles at me, holding my arms in his hands.
“I’m Jane,” I tell him, hoping he gets the joke. “Jane Doe.” This time, he is the one throwing his head back and laughing.
“Well, Jane Doe, I’m John.” He holds out his hand, and I take it in my hand, shaking it. “John Doe.”
“I think we’re related somehow.” I smile at him, and this time, his eyes go serious.
“I really fucking hope not.” He takes a deep breath.
“I have to go to the bathroom,” I say, dropping his hand. “Excuse me.” I look down and then back over my shoulder once I walk away to see him staring at me. “Enjoying the view?”
“More than you fucking know.” He smiles, and I push open the bathroom door, whispering, “Holy shit,” the whole time.
Gabe
I watch Jane Doe walk into the bathroom, thinking this night just got a whole lot better.
When we first arrived an hour ago, even with a large crowd I spotted her. My gaze found her right away, and then she moved her hips, and I just couldn’t look away. It was as if fate handed her to me when she smashed into me.
I look toward the bar and then back at the bathroom door as I list the pros and cons of staying and leaving in my head. Everything tells me this is a bad idea, but I go with my gut, which brings me back to the women’s bathroom door. I lean against the wall, facing the door, one foot on the wall, and both hands in my pockets. I haven’t done this in forever. I was never a one-night stand kind of guy, but something tells me not to walk away.
The door swings open, and there she stands. If I thought she was good looking through the crowds of people in the dim light, then nothing compares to her standing in the fully lit bathroom. Her blond hair falls down her back and her blue eyes shine with mischief. Her neck bare and white gives me the sudden urge to bite her. “You waiting for me?” she asks, walking to me.
“I wanted to know if maybe you wanted to grab a drink.” Her citrus smell hits me in the stomach. Fresh and clean. “I was thinking,” I say, tracing my finger down her cheek, “we could maybe go over our family tree.”
Her hands go straight to my waist as she leans into me. “Let’s go have that drink.” She winks at me, walking away from me as I follow her to the bar. “What are you having?” She turns to ask me.
“Scotch on the rocks,” I yell to the bartender, who then looks at her. “I’ll have the same,” she says.
“So.” She leans in, the noise of the bar drowning out her voice. The bartender returns with the two scotches and places them in front of us.
“Put it on my tab,” I tell him, and he nods his head. I pick up the glass, holding it in front of me. “To long-lost family.”
She picks up her glass. “To living in the moment.” I clink her glass in a toast, then she drinks a sip and looks at me. “Are you married?”
I shake my head. “Nope. Single. You?” I ask her. Even though I want to do this, I don’t want to cross that line.
“Always single.” She smiles, taking another sip, this time longer. “So, John”—she looks at me, stepping into my space—“there is just one more question that needs answering.”
I down the scotch, not even hissing when it burns my throat to my chest and then straight down to my stomach. I place the glass on the bar. “Do you want to go someplace where it’s quiet?” I ask her. She nods and smiles at me. It’s a smile that I’m not sure I ever want to see go away. It’s a smile that lights up her whole face. I don’t know if it’s the booze or not, but I’m not ready for it to be over just yet.
“I just have to tell my friends I’m leaving.” She points behind her and goes to tell them something while I close up the tab. A couple of women look over her shoulder, waving their hands at me, and one high-fives her. She shakes her head, laughing, while she walks back to me. “So where to?” she asks me. I grab her hand and walk outside to the building next door. “Well, that wasn’t too far.”
I guide her to the elevator and press the button standing next to her. I’m nervous; I haven’t had sex with someone new since Bethany and that feels like forever ago. I start thinking about different moves when the elevator dings, and the doors open. She steps in before me. “What floor?” she asks.
“Twenty-seven,” I say, and she presses the button. She leans on the wall while I lean on the other across from her. “I don’t usually do this.”
The little minx smiles at me. “A one-night stand or sex?”
I smile at her. “Very funny. A one-night stand.”
She stands straight and walks over to me. Her hands go straight to my chest, causing my heart to beat faster. “Well, then”—she inches closer, her hands moving to my neck, and my hands going to her waist, pulling her close to me, “let me start then.”
She goes on her tippy toes, and something in me takes over. I turn her so she is the one against the wall now. My hand runs over her bare neck, coming up to cup her chin. “I’m the one driving this car,” I tell her right before I hear her breath hitch and my mouth crashes into hers. I taste the scotch on her when her hand touches my cheek, and I angle my head to get more of her. To get all of her. The elevator dings, letting us know we are on our floor. Our lips separate from each other as our chests rise and fall rapidly. I hold out my hand, and she places hers in mine. As soon as our fingers intertwine, I pull her out of the elevator before the doors shut us in. She laughs as she follows me, and I make the mistake of looking over at her, seeing her with her hair going everywhere, the smile on her face, and the twinkle in her eyes. I make sure to remember it all.

Welcome to the blog tour for ACE OF HEARTS, the third book in the adult romantic suspense series, Blind Jacks MC, by USA Today and international bestselling author, J.C. Valentine. See below for information on the book and series, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and details on her giveaway.
ACE OF HEARTS (Blind Jacks MC #3) by J.C. Valentine
Synopsis Being granted a second chance at life and a first time at love was every man’s dream, but for Ace it came with a price.
Ace
By all rights, he should be dead. Serving ten years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit had affected him in ways he couldn’t begin to understand. He’d rolled out of the slammer and into a revenge plot that almost got him killed. By the grace of God, when he’d hit rock bottom, one person reached out a helping hand.
A beautiful redhead with a penchant for mischief took a shine to him and then disappeared, leaving behind only her number scribbled recklessly on his arm. Assuming he can make out all the numbers, he just might have a chance at something amazing.
Barbara
Finally divorcing her narcissistic husband was the best choice Barbara ever made. After living under his control for seven long years, she might have gone a little wild for a minute, what with jumping the hot biker and all. None of that mattered, though, because today was the day she got herself back on track.
After being given the opportunity to excavate a small cache of fossils in a remote area, Barbara is horrified to discover she’s inadvertently led a small team of her archeology students into danger. When they stumble on a secret dumping site of a vicious serial killer, Ace, the big, handsome biker takes charge. But she may have gotten herself and her students into more danger than even he can handle.
*NOTE*Although a part of the Blind Jacks MC series, ACE OF HEARTS can be read as a STANDALONE and features a new couple!.

Excerpt #2 Climbing into bed behind his lovely professor seemed different. At the clubhouse, neither of them felt particularly at home. It was clear that Barbara felt totally comfortable in her own home, though. The strange part was that Ace felt very much at home there, too.
“This is all kinds of weird for me.”
“My house must seem like a tiny doll house to you.”
“It feels more like a warm, safe nest that’s been made enticing by the addition of a beautiful and accommodating woman. I’m feeling a bit like the world’s last dodo bird or something.”
“In that case, we had better start making babies before you go extinct.”
“The last time you said something like that it triggered a little episode of self-loathing.” Pulling the blanket up around them, he murmured reassuringly, “Don’t worry, this time I have my head screwed on straight. I’m intentionally not using a condom and will be trying my best to make ugly little dodo babies with you.”
“You’re so funny.”
Ace frowned. “Why do you want to get pregnant?”
“Fertility stays relatively stable until around age thirty in women. After that, it begins to drop off slightly. Since I gave my marriage a dirt nap, I suppose I’ve been worried about missing my window.” Eyeing him with heated admiration, she continued, “You’re a big, strapping biker. You look like you could get the job done with some swimmers to spare.”
Moving closer, he grinned. “This is like a whole new side of your personality that I’ve never seen.”
Running her hand over his chest, she laughed. “It’s the neurotic and slightly panicking side.”
Jerking his chin for her to give him a kiss, he murmured, “It looks good on you.”
Rather than following his nonverbal communication, she asked softly, “So do you have baby-related secrets to share?”
Reaching out, he wrapped one arm around her and dragged her close. “Sure, but I don’t think you wanna hear them.”
“I do, so cough it up.”
Spanning her stomach with his hand, he said, “I’ve thought about how nice it would be to see my child growing inside you. You’d look really sexy with a baby bump. I’d be one of those obsessed dads who listened to your stomach and told our little princess stories so she’d get used to my voice. Since I don’t know any stories fit to tell a baby, we’d have to go to one of those fancy bookstores and buy some. Maybe we’d get one of those fancy coffees you like so much.”
Her eyes damn near sparkled. “That’s about the sweetest baby secret I ever heard.”
Looking down at his hand on her stomach, he whispered, “I’d have to be really careful, ‘cause I wouldn’t want her to be scared when she saw me for the first time.”

Synopsis Cecily has always had a huge crush on singer Andrew Holiday and she wants to be an actress, so she tags along when her friend auditions for his new video.
However, the director isn’t looking for an actress, but rather the girl next door—and so is Andrew. Cecily gets a part in the video and all of Andrew’s attention on the set.
Her friend begins to see red and Cecily’s boyfriend is seeing green—as in major jealousy. A misunderstanding leaves Cecily and her boyfriend on the outs and Andrew hopes to pick up the pieces as he’s looking for someone more stable in his life than the models he’s dated.
Soon Cecily begins to realize Andrew understands her more than her small-town boyfriend—but can her perfect love match really be her favorite rock star?
.
—————————————————————————-
Excerpt #4 Okay, if I wanted to do a good job in this music video then I had to become this character and show how she and Andrew were soulmates who would recognize each other just by walking by.
Andrew got into position and the director yelled, “Action.”
Andrew and I began to walk toward one another. He glanced away from me and then right as we got closer, he gave me an intense, longing stare which almost took my breath away. I lost all focus and forgot what I was supposed to do. It was like time was standing still and we were the only two people in the world.
“Cut!” Dimitri said. “Perfection. You absolutely nailed the look, Cecily. Let’s try it again, but this time the focus will be on Andrew’s angle.”
My face felt warm as I walked back on my mark to go again. How did I get my look so perfect when I hadn’t done anything intentional? Andrew’s gaze had been so overwhelming I had forgotten everything I was meant to do. Then it hit me—my look hadn’t been an act. Whatever I did in the scene was how I actually felt in the moment and if Dimitri said it was the perfect look then it meant I must have been showing my true feelings for Andrew. How embarrassing! Did people think I was acting or was my stupid kiddie crush apparent to everyone now? Andrew would probably take the security guys aside and tell them there was a stalker present and to quietly escort me off the premises without making a scene. The whole crew would laugh over how the dumb star struck kid got caught up in her obsession with the pop star. I never should have done this. At least before I had the fantasy, now Andrew was aware of my existence and instead of remembering the connection we had earlier, he’d see me as just another fan.

Synopsis Heartbeats had a pesky way of complicating things. They almost always came with the nasty side effect of humanity and finally… death. Since Thorne came into my life, I’d been plagued with both. Heartbeats and humanity.
Both of these things were going to be the death of me. One way or another. And the death of everyone I knew and loved, a list growing longer with every beat of my newly repaired—and irritating—heart. That pesky humanity was almost as toxic as the most debilitating illness on this hunk of rock, killing more humans than any vampire could.
Love.
And there I was, attached to a slayer who I couldn’t be undead without. Friends who I was becoming increasingly attached to. All things—people—he would take away from me. Then he’d take me too. But if it came to that, I’d yank out my beating heart and crush it in my hands before he could touch me.
It was lost anyway. If he won, my eternity would come to an end. As it happened, so would the world.

Welcome to the blog tour for UNLOCKING LIES, the third book in the adult mystery/romantic suspense series, Keys to Love, by USA Today bestselling author, Kennedy Layne. See below for information on the book, buy links, and an exclusive excerpt.
Synopsis Their homecoming wasn’t so welcoming. Four brothers and one sister each gave twelve years of their lives to serve their country and fulfill their family’s legacy of service. As each of them return to their home of record, they weren’t prepared for what awaited them—an unforgiveable sin that has been hidden for twelve long years. Secrets and lies are concealed in the dark shadows of the very town they were raised in, and the Kendall family will have no choice but to rely on one another to unravel the sinister evil that they all hold the keys to unlock.
About Unlocking Lies Secrets and lies have a way of weaving a deadly web. Returning home from his last deployment shouldn’t have been complicated, but Jace Kendall was immediately drawn into a murder investigation that hits a little too close to home. The last thing he should be doing was reigniting old passions that should have been kept buried, but he’s never been a guy who plays by the rules.
Shae has suffered for twelve years without knowing why her sister disappeared. The long-awaited answers are now within reach, and she’ll have no choice but to trust the one man who knows more than he’s telling.
It isn’t long before Jace and Shae are lost in the mystery of solving a case that’s long gone cold. When they find the answers they’ve been looking for, a darkness is unveiled that will leave one of them in the crosshairs of a psychopath.
—————————————————————————-
—————————————————————————-
Excerpt Shae set her purse on the far seat and slid it across the faux red leather. Her back protested the position, though her taut muscles from the long drive most definitely appreciated the small walk from her car to the diner. She was really glad the meeting she scheduled with Detective Kendrick wasn’t until tomorrow afternoon. She would need to catch up on her sleep, if possible.
“One slice of warm apple pie along with one scoop of vanilla ice cream,” Molly announced, having asked earlier what she could get Shae to eat. The white porcelain dish was set gently on the table in front of her. “Can I get you a nice tall glass of milk to go with that? Maybe a coffee?”
“I’d love a hot cup of tea, please.” Shae had found that drinking English style tea reduced her stress level by half. She’d read quite a lot of different reports on how certain beverages could alter the way a person dealt with stress in their life. Seeing as she had an abundance of it, she’d given the theory a try by switching from coffee to tea. It had successfully worked in her daily life. “Thank you, Molly.”
The waitress had been about to say something to Shae when the bell above the door jingled, alerting everyone to another newcomer. In this case, a father and son.
Shae was glad she hadn’t taken a bite of her apple pie. She wasn’t so sure she would have been able to swallow it around the knot that had formed in her throat.
As she lived and breathed, it was none other than Jace Kendall. He’d changed since the last time she saw him, somehow managing to become even more strikingly attractive. She couldn’t help but rake her eyes down him to prove to herself that he was real. His shoulders had gained considerable width, inches had been added to his over six-foot height, and he still had that charming, crooked grin that could melt a girl’s heart like ice on a hot summer’s day.
Yet all she experienced upon setting her gaze on his gorgeous features was guilt.
She’d heard that two of his brothers— Noah and Lance— had returned home from their time in the service. Their combined chosen path had been the Marine Corps, if she wasn’t mistaken. Her mother had mentioned that Jace wasn’t due back to Blyth Lake until the end of the year, which was probably why seeing him was such a blow to the serenity she’d been trying to marshal.
Her original plan had called for her to be out of Blyth Lake before he returned.
It wasn’t personal. She was here for a purpose.
Shae was grateful that the diners had averted Jace’s attention with their overzealous reception. He hadn’t glanced her way, so he didn’t even know that she was there. The distraction gave her time to slip out of the booth and head to the restroom, though her path took her right past the small group of greeters. No one noticed, and it wasn’t long before she was behind a locked door and leaning over the sink to give her time to regain her composure.
“Why me?” Shae whispered to herself, hanging her head a little lower as she fought off the dancing lights. “I just needed a few weeks, Emma. Was that too much to ask? He will prove to be nothing but a distraction.”
Shae didn’t believe for a second that her baby sister was alive. She never had, regardless that her parents had proposed that scenario a time or two over the years. It had been easy for her to slip into a one-sided conversation, believing that Emma’s spirit was somewhere out there watching over all of them.
Then there were times when Shae’s unanswered requests made her question her own sanity. Talking with ghosts was crazy, wasn’t it?
One of the saving graces about returning to her childhood home was knowing Jace Kendall wouldn’t be in town. Shae understood that it wasn’t fair to him, but he was a trigger of guilt that she couldn’t deal with right now. She calculated her chances of just paying her tab and leaving without being noticed. After all, he’d been the reason she’d taken the car the night Emma disappeared. Given her profession, she understood that the what-if game wasn’t healthy to her mental state. She just couldn’t prevent the perpetual question from rising to the surface once again— would Emma still be alive if Shae hadn’t been with Jace Kendall that fateful night?
No one would ever know. Not unless Shae got the opportunity to personally ask Emma’s killer.

Synopsis I’m the last single woman among my friends. Don’t feel sorry for me. I’m fine with flying solo, especially with ski season right around the corner. You won’t hear me complaining. Until my mother decides I need a date for my cousin’s wedding … and chooses the worst man in the world for me.
Landon Roberts is the human equivalent of a parka with every ski pass he’s ever purchased hanging off of his zipper. Apparently my mother is the last person in Colorado to know about Landon’s reputation.
To make things worse, his super hot brother Aiden’s back in town. Still gorgeous and still not remotely interested in me.
I can survive this wedding disaster as long as I pretend my date is someone else.
***
As one of the stars of Aspen’s rugby club, I don’t need help meeting women. Tell that to my mother. She’s picked out my date for the biggest wedding of the year.
Mae London is the local girl who broke every heart in the valley before she left for California. Now she’s back and hotter than ever. Too bad she hates me.
Enlisting the help of my brother, I’m going to become the ideal man, and charm Mae right out of her bad opinion of me.
This wedding date will be perfect as long as I pretend to be someone else.
—————————————————————————-
Excerpt “Yes, Mother Dear?” I fold my hands and put on my wide-eyed innocent face.
“Save it for your revolving door of women.” She places her empty glass on the island counter. “Do you have a date for the wedding?”
“What wedding?” I ask because I’m sure there is more than one upcoming wedding on her radar.
“The London-Tierney wedding, of course. Unless you’ve had one concussion too many and can’t remember our conversation from five minutes ago.” She’s not even a little amused by me right now.
“Why would I have a date for a wedding I’m not going to?” Crossing my arms, I lean against the counter. Mom’s had too many glasses of rosé.
“You’ll be invited. Invitations will be sent out this week.”
“I think I’ll be out of town. Playing rugby.” There’s no way I’m missing one of the last tournaments of the season for some society wedding.
“I thought the season ended mid-September with Rugby Fest?” Aiden’s grin tells me he knows he just threw me under the bus.
“It does. Didn’t Mom say September was the wedding? I’m sure I’m busy every weekend.” I feel the solid ground of my excuse begin to slip out from under my feet.
“It’s Columbus Day. That’s mid October,” she adds like I’m an idiot, which apparently I am because I just blew my out. “And you have to go because I’ve already told Mrs. London you’ll be Mae’s date.”
“What?” I ask, my voice cracking.
“Why?” Aiden sets down his beer with too much force. The glass makes a loud cracking noise against the marble, but doesn’t break.
“Yeah, why?” I echo him. “If I have to attend, I can bring my own choice of dates. I’m not some sad sack who needs his mother to set him up. Not like Aiden. Make Aiden shave off the recluse disguise and take her. If either of us needs help with the opposite sex, it’s him, not me. I’m sure he doesn’t have any other options.”
I can’t believe she thinks this crazy idea is going to fly with me. Anger heats my neck as I try to process why she thinks I’ll go along with her plan.
“Fuck off, Landon,” Aiden mumbles, wiping the bottom of his bottle with his open palm, checking for leaks.
Mom’s lips curve with the start of a small frown. “Can you two be in the same place for more than five minutes without sounding like the dialogue from an R-Rated mob movie?”
“No,” I say, sarcastically.
“It was a rhetorical question, Dumbass.” Aiden stares at the ceiling before mumbling, “I really need to get my own place as soon as possible.”
“You could always move back in here. We have a guest suite on the lower level with its own bathroom.” Mom touches his forearm, hope shining bright in her eyes.
“Thanks, but I can’t move home with my parents. I’m thirty, and while I’m not even in the running for wedding date material, I do have some pride left.” Aiden rests his hand over hers.
“Oh, sweetheart. I assumed you’d be gone before October. Plus, Landon and Mae are friends.” Mom reassures him, her voice all lovey and doting.
“We are?” I ask. “Since when?”
“Aren’t you? You grew up together and I know you run in similar circles in Aspen. When I ran into her at the bridal shower she was with Sage Blum, who dates your team’s captain. You can go to the wedding as foursome.”
Yeah, she’s definitely been pounding the pink wine if she believes any of that bullshit. I don’t even know where to begin unraveling her words.

“I know how to watch my back. I’m the only one that ever has.”
India Maxwell hasn’t just moved across the country—she’s plummeted to the bottom rung of the social ladder. It’s taken years to cover the mess of her home life with a veneer of popularity. Now she’s living in one of Boston’s wealthiest neighborhoods with her mom’s fiancé and his daughter, Eloise. Thanks to her soon-to-be stepsister’s clique of friends, including Eloise’s gorgeous, arrogant boyfriend Finn, India feels like the one thing she hoped never to be seen as again: trash.
But India’s not alone in struggling to control the secrets of her past. Eloise and Finn, the school’s golden couple, aren’t all they seem to be. In fact, everyone’s life is infinitely more complex than it first appears. And as India grows closer to Finn and befriends Eloise, threatening the facades that hold them together, what’s left are truths that are brutal, beautiful, and big enough to change them forever…
—————————————————————————-
Excerpt “India, I’m not using her. I mean, I am, but it’s not like that. Eloise is getting what she wants out of this relationship, as well.”
“Like what?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“You are using her.”
“I’m not.” His chair screeched as he pulled it closer so our knees touched. His dark eyes moved over my face and I sucked in my breath at the open appreciation I saw there. “I’m not using her…but we are in a relationship together. I guess it just never occurred to me that I might actually meet someone in high school. Someone I…”
That feeling in my chest, that thick, hot feeling, threatened to overwhelm me at all the things he wasn’t saying. “Finn, Eloise is going to be my family.”
He looked so forlorn it took everything within me not to reach for him.
“What is it you’re hiding?”
“I can’t tell you. Please, just trust me.”
Hurt and frustration swept through me in equal measure but I tamped it down. It wasn’t my place to demand his secrets.
My frustration was suddenly mirrored in his eyes as he looked up at me. “I wish things were different.”
But they weren’t different. And yet they were the same, history repeating itself. I cared about someone and they didn’t care enough about me back to be honest about what was really going on.
I didn’t know if I was angry at Finn or just angry that nothing ever seemed to be easy for me. Everything was always a fight.
It felt like I lived in a constant clusterfuck.
I gave a huff of laughter. “Story of my life.” I shook my head, grabbed up my bag and, unable to look at him, said, “Thank you for your help tonight.”
“You’re not leaving without me.”
His protectiveness confused and pissed me off even more. “I’m not? Funny, it looks like that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
His familiar scowl was back in place at my sarcasm. “You’re also not going home alone after what happened here. I’ll give you a ride.”
“Finn.” I slumped, suddenly feeling exhausted. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Sadness flittered through his eyes before he managed a carefully blank expression. “I think I can handle driving you home.”
Still a trembling mess after everything that had happened, I gave in and followed Finn out to his car.
The tension that we’d shared before was nothing compared to how it was now. Now that Finn had in a roundabout way admitted he liked me and I’d realized that what I was feeling for him was attraction, the tension could not be mistaken for anything else but sexual.
I’d never felt anything like it before—it was the most frustrating, scary and exhilarating feeling in the world.
When we eventually pulled up outside the house, the guilt washed over me. I shouldn’t be feeling this way about Eloise’s boyfriend and he certainly shouldn’t be feeling this way about me.
I felt like we were to blame for the whole thing but I didn’t know why.
I hadn’t asked the universe to make Finn like me.
And I had definitely not intended to like him in return.
“India,” he said just as I moved to get out of his car. “I’ve never really cared what anybody thought of me before…but I really don’t want you to think I’m a bad person.”
I stared into his beautiful eyes. “I can’t imagine ever thinking you’re a bad person. I meant it earlier…thank you for coming for me tonight. I’ll never forget it.”
“This feels weirdly like a goodbye,” he said with a bitter twist to his gorgeous lips.
“Maybe it is. I guess we’re both just a complication the other doesn’t need.”
Slowly, so slowly my heart had time to increase in hard, steady thumps, Finn slid his hand over the center console between us and stroked his thumb along the side of my hand. I felt that simple touch in every nerve, my body reacting to it in a way it never had to the touches and deep kisses that had come before it.
I stared at our hands for a moment, wondering how different my life could be if Finn wasn’t Eloise’s boyfriend, if we’d just met as strangers at school, felt the inexplicable bond between us and were free to do something about it.
Suddenly very aware of how long I’d been sitting outside the house in his car, I fumbled for the door handle. “See you around, Finn.”

Excerpt What. The. Fuck.
I had sat down at my desk and opened a manila envelope that was left on top of my stack of mail. It had seemed harmless enough.
But it wasn’t.
I blink my eyes over and over trying to make my brain process what it’s seeing—but I can’t. I can’t unsee the images in the stack of pictures in my hand. Giant glossy eight by tens from different angles so there is absolutely no doubt that my heart is breaking.
And it is broken. It’s not just broken, it’s shattered.
“It’s not what it looks like,” I hear from behind me as he looks over my shoulder and I have to grit my teeth to keep from screaming.
I shuffle the pictures sliding the top one to the back of the stack so that I can see the next one. This one is zoomed in. His head is tipped back and his face is distorted with both lust and passion as she straddles his lap. Her hands hold his to her breasts and I can see the play of tendons flexing through them as he grips them tight. It was only two nights ago that his hands were on my own breasts in much the same way as I rode his cock on the sofa.
“Claire, did you hear me?” he asks but I shuffle the stack again.
In this picture, he has his arms wrapped around her back and he’s pulling her close, her breasts mashed up against his strong chest. Her hands with long, red painted talons press in on either side of his face and as they kiss hungrily, their mouths open as their tongues tangle.
“Goddamnit, Claire! Did you hear me?” My spine turns to steel.
“I did. I’m just choosing to ignore you,” I respond coolly.
“Don’t do this, baby,” he pleads.
“I’m not the one who did anything,” I snap.
“I can explain.” But I’m not interested in listening to him plead a case when he is more than guilty.
“I’m going to need you to leave, Wes.”
“No.”
“This changes everything,” I say so softly even I struggle to hear the words that are coming out of my mouth.
“This changes nothing! Fuck that, Claire,” he yells. “You want to run away. You have always wanted to run away. And here is your fucking reason to served up on a goddamn silver platter.” Everyone around us in the bullpen is doing everything they can to make it appear that they are not listening, not studying the tragic demise of Claire and Wes with rapt attention. But we all know that they are.
“No,” I shout back as I throw the stack of glossy betrayal down on top of my desk. I push my rolly chair back and stand. It slams into the desk behind mine. “You do not get to come in here, where I work, and tell me that I am to blame for your bullshit.”
“Okay,” he says quickly as he holds his hands up in surrender. “You’re right. I’m sorry. I can see you need time.”
“I need a lot of things. One of them is definitely distance.”
“I don’t know if I can give you that. I can’t lose you, baby.” His words burn hot behind my eyes and the last thing I want is for the guys in the bullpen to see me cry.
“You should have thought about that before you fooled around with that stripper.”
“Claire—” he starts but I don’t let him finish.
“You need to go now,” I say softly.
I stand with my feet apart, my hands on my hips, and my head bowed as if I’m waiting for a blow. But I see him clearly even if only in my peripheral. He looks at me and opens his mouth as if he’s going to try to explain again. Something in my stance must have told him it was a losing battle because he snaps his mouth closed before moving towards the exit.
Wes pauses just before opening the door to turn and look back at me, I see him in my peripheral, but I’m looking at his lies and deceit spread across my desk for all to see. He pulls open the door and slams it on his way out. I’m Detective Claire Goodnite and this is how my heart breaks.

Excerpt “That’s why packs have Alphas,” says Knox. “You need to set her loose, and then, let her attack me.”
Every inch of my body goes on alert. “Attack you? Why?”
“Your wolf has been through a lot. Ritual fighting is how wolves work out their place in the pack. Your wolf needs a firm hand.”
I stare at my palm. “Firm hand?”
“I’m not talking about physical power here. I’m talking magic. My power is Alpha energy, but you’ve got your own magic. Once I subdue your wolf, I think you’ll get the idea.”
My head feels woozy. “Ritual combat? Really?”
“Yes. Release your wolf and attack me. Now.”
I hug my elbows. “I’m not sure. If I’m patient, my inner wolf might just calm down on her own.”
“That’s not how wolves work, even when they aren’t of the magical variety. And a werewolf? Our animals are far more intense. I’m your Alpha, and if I let this go on for one more minute, I’m putting you at risk.”
Something in his tone sets my nerves on edge. “Meaning?”
“Your wolf will go feral. When it happens, it’s fast and intense. Your wolf will take over and you’ll disappear.”
I suck in a shaky breath. “She wouldn’t.”
My wolf’s voice sounds in my head. “We will run! I demand we shift NOW!”
That manic tone to her voice is now higher than ever before. Every inch of my body trembles with the urge to shift. I reply to my wolf in my mind.
“Didn’t you hear what Knox said?” Normally, my wolf can’t help but listen in on most of my conversations. “Our mate thinks you’re going feral.”
“Mate?” The manic tone to her voice hikes up an octave. “We have no mate. All we have is the need to run.”
A chill runs up my spine. “You don’t remember our mate?”
“No mate! Run, now!”
My blood chills. No matter what happens, my wolf always knows her mate. In fact, my usual complaint is that she won’t shut up about him.
This is really happening. My wolf is going feral.
All of a sudden, it’s like I can’t pull in enough air. “You’re right. My inner wolf is losing her mind.”
“Hey, I won’t let that happen.” Knox rests his hands on my shoulders. “Breathe, Bry.”
It takes serious concentration, but I slow my racing pulse a little. “Okay.”
“Now, you need to set your wolf loose and trust me. Can you do that, yeah?”
“I can try.”
“Good.” Knox pulls off his dress shirt over his head and tosses it aside. “Set her loose.”
Normally, the urge to shift is a constant tug of war between me and my wolf. Most times, all it takes is for me to stop fighting the urge to shift. After that, I turn furry. So that’s what I do now—I drop my guard and let my wolf take over.

Excerpt #5 Davis’s driver picked Hope up, and waiting inside the car was the man himself. “Hello, gorgeous.” He smiled as if he had never been happier. Hope had to admit she could get used to this kind of treatment.
The driver took her things, and while he was out of the car, Davis slipped his hand up her leg and kissed her passionately. “God, I couldn’t wait to see you. I just packed up everything and wanted to get to you as soon as I could. I know we need to work, but maybe a little fun first,” he said as he kissed her neck and caressed her.
“Of course. But then right to work. I need this, Davis.”
“Davis, huh? Is that some new thing, like the way you call the other bloke Adler? Is that a good or bad thing?” he asked.
The driver got in and put up the partition to give them privacy, smiling as he looked in the rearview mirror.
“Of course it’s a good thing,” Hope said. “Jeffrey sounds so formal and very British. Davis is less intimidating, now that I know you’re so wealthy and so very British that you can’t marry anyone else.” She winked at him.
“Very well then. Davis it is. I kind of like it—makes me feel more butch.” He kissed her all the way back to the townhouse.
