MAVERICK (Sin City Saints Hockey Series #1) by Brenda Rothert
Synopsis
The Vegas heat just kicked up a notch with the arrival of ice hockey’s newest expansion team – the Sin City Saints.
Maverick Hagen’s fall from grace was more like a crash landing. His record-breaking career ended after a fight with an opponent over a woman left him with a broken leg, or so the pundits thought. Returning to the sport he loves as the captain of the league’s new expansion team, the Sin City Saints, his lucrative contract comes with just one rule—no romantic distractions.
Gia Ford also makes her living playing a game—poker. The rounder has hit her stride in Vegas, quietly building her bank account one casino at a time. She’s got a score to settle, and nothing will get in her way—not even the sexy hockey player who’s willing to lose money just to see her in action. Maverick attracts attention, upsetting Gia’s under-the-radar game.
Maverick and Gia can’t afford to give in to their magnetic attraction, with his career rebounding and her winnings growing. But the hotter their chemistry burns, the harder it is to deny. So will they or won’t they? In Vegas, there’s only one way to settle it—a bet, of course.

Excerpt #3 After our last night in the studio, we loaded everything out and everyone had left but I still had to pack up the last few pieces of my drum kit. When I brought the bass drum to the band’s new green Ford passenger van, Alex was leaning against the side of the brick building where it was parked.
“Dude, are you mad at me?” Alex inquired, sucking on an orange lollipop. Today wearing a white tank with cutoff shorts and those boots.
“Nope.” I pushed my hands into my jeans and slouched next to her against the side of the building, avoiding her gaze.
“Oh-kay.” She leveled her gaze at me.
“I’m just focused on my band right now.” I shrugged. “We have a lot riding on this.”
She didn’t break eye contact. “Yeah, I’m aware.”
“We leave in just over a week.”
She bit off the orange candy and crunched it. “Yeah, I know.”
“Carter has really set things up for us. We have a real chance to make this work, so I have to really focus.”
“What did he say to Zoey?” Alex squinted at me. “She was crying earlier.”
“Maybe he was comforting her because she’s upset about us leaving.” I really had no idea what she was talking about.
“I don’t think so.” She was unimpressed. “She was upset by something he said to her.”
“I don’t know, Alex. I mean, don’t you think Zoey and Ty are a little too serious for having just met a couple of months ago?” I usually kept my feelings to myself, but it was something that Connor, Zane, and I had talked about with Carter.
Unlike Connor, who had been with my sister for years, Zane who would fuck anyone for the sheer pleasure of it, and me who was slightly more discerning but not in the market for a serious relationship, Ty was a sensitive soul. He was our lead singer. We needed him to give 100% to the band right now. We all loved Zoey, but the odds of them working out were next to zero. Less than zero, pardon the pun.
“Yeah, I think they are too serious.” Alex surprised me. “She’s going to get her heart broken and I can’t stop it.”
“What do you mean?” I was similarly worried about Ty’s heart.
“You guys are going on the road. You’ll have your pick of beautiful women in every city you visit. Zoey thinks Ty is the one for her. I know that Ty will not be able to resist temptation.” She raised her eyebrow.
Despite my feelings on the matter, her comment made me angry. “Wow. You don’t give him much credit.”
“He’s a dude.” She shrugged, as if it was a foregone conclusion.
“You know nothing about him, do you?” My voice raised even further. “He’s not wired that way. If anything, Zoey will meet someone at college and forget all about her fling with a rock star.”
“Hmm.” Alex walked over to the trash and threw away her lollipop stick.
“Hmm what?” I followed her, wanting to complete this conversation and stick up for my man Ty.
“You just seem very defensive.” She smirked defiantly. “But, I’m glad to hear you say that about Ty, it makes me feel better.”
“Why?”
“Because tomorrow she’s going to lose her virginity to him and he better goddamn know what a gift it is.” Alex crossed her arms across her perky tits, drawing my eyes to them. Christ.
“Jesus.” I was shocked. “The way they carry on, I could have sworn they have been going at it all summer.”
“Nope.” Alex smiled. “They’re making it special. Seems unnecessarily dramatic.”
“Well, it’s none of my business.” I walked back over to the van we’d dubbed “The Green Dragon,” unlocked it and loaded in my bass drum.
“Can I tell you something?” Alex walked up behind me, her hands clasped behind her, causing her breasts to jut out slightly.
“Um, sure.” I couldn’t help but lick my lips.
“I was hoping that you’d do that for me.”

Excerpt #2 I didn’t see him move so much as I sensed him approaching, drawn to him like the pull of a magnet that had always been there between us, binding us together. That hadn’t changed, and alarms started blaring in my brain.
“That was very kind of you, Dr. Ramirez,” he said.
Crossing my arms, I finally turned to him as he walked over to me, his steps a loud echo in the empty auditorium. I liked this position of power, sitting on top of the stage like a queen waiting for her peasants to come up to her from below. I smiled and clung to that image to give me the strength I would need to deal with the person I hated the most in this universe.
“Dr. Medina,” I said. “How . . . nice to see you.”
“Please call me Hector, Carolina,” he said, his voice trying to soothe me like a child. The nerve.
“That’s ‘Dr. Ramirez’ to you, Dr. Medina. Let’s keep this professional.”
He finally stood in front of me, and I reveled in this view from the higher vantage point. He looked up to meet my face from several feet below. Letting out a breath, he handed me the book. I arched an eyebrow.
“I wasn’t kidding,” he said. “I would very much like a dedication.”
“You are kidding.” I scoffed.
“No, Carolina. I’m serious. I’m very proud of you.”
Proud? That gave me pause. Why would the man who nearly ruined my career be proud of me?
Disbelieving, I snatched the book from his hand. I opened the cover to the third page, which had the most blank space for a dedication. I smiled devilishly. I couldn’t resist:
To the Devil himself—
You couldn’t pull me down to hell with you.
Hate always,
Dr. Ramirez
Jumping off the edge of the stage, I landed squarely in front of him and handed him the book. Standing on his level, I hated the height difference. I was tall, but he still had a good three inches on me. He encroached on my space too much with his height. I damned him for looking more handsome than ever. In the seven years since I’d seen him, his impossibly good looks had actually improved. His dark-brown, tanned skin glowed even more. What had once been salt and pepper hair was now nearly white at the temples, and his face was a bit rounder. He’d gained weight. The good kind. He was broader at the shoulders than he’d been back then, and I hated myself for noticing he’d clearly been working out. The man was like freaking wine.
He opened the book to read the inscription and laughed.
“That’s funny, huh?” I said.
What in the world was happening? I didn’t understand any of this. Why was he here? Why was he happy, smiling of all things, and proud of me? Nothing made sense, but I would be damned before I’d ask him.
“I will treasure this forever,” he said, clutching the book to his chest. “I see you remain judgmental and critical of me.”
“I see you remain tactless and careless,” I shot back.
He laughed, and I noticed the sparkle in his eye. A sparkle I knew well, but it was so much brighter now.
I slung my purse over my shoulder, ready to get going and forget this crazy day ever happened, but Hector grabbed my wrist as I turned to leave.
“No, Carolina, wait.” I looked at his hand on my wrist at the same time he did, and we both froze. We only connected for two, maybe three seconds, before he withdrew his hand, but those seconds electrified us. Nine years since the first time I’d touched him. Seven since the last time I’d spoken with him. I couldn’t believe my body still reacted to him the same way after all this time.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“It’s okay,” I said, palming my wrist with my other hand to calm the fire on my skin.
“Can I please take you out for a drink, or coffee perhaps?”
I was speechless, so I could only shake my head.
“Please, Carolina. I have so much I have to say to you.”
He said my name in nearly every sentence like he was pleading. I took too long to answer, and he pulled off his glasses to clean them. I knew that tell well. He was thinking. He wanted to find an argument that would persuade me to have drinks with him.
“Even if I wanted to,” I said, “which I don’t, I can’t. I have a flight to catch.”
“How about in Kansas City?” he asked, hopeful.
My entire body stilled. “In Kansas City?”
“Yes. Tomorrow. That little café on Westport Road you liked so much. Wait, is that still open?”
“It-it is, but you’re going to be in Kansas City?”
“Yes. Does five sound okay to you? Tomorrow?” He smiled, and in that moment, he looked like a little kid.
“Why?” I asked, closing my eyes, seeking patience from within. “Why are you going to be in Kansas City? Please don’t tell me you’re coming back.”

Author T.A. Kunz
About the Author T.A. Kunz is the pen name for Adam Kunz, who lives in Orlando, Florida. And unfortunately a lot of the rumors you’ve heard about his state are true. When he’s not writing, Adam spends his time reading, playing video games, watching anime and Korean dramas, and spending time with his partner while cuddling with their two dogs, Nicky and Rusty. Since childhood, he’s had a great fondness for reading and writing. His fiction genres of choice are eclectic, but mainly are in the YA, MG, and NA categories. So, it was no surprise when he decided to write his own books that he’d be a grab bag kind of author in terms of story ideas. And he just loves mashing up genres. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Adam advocates strongly for diverse representation in all media. He may or may not have a coffee addiction, the jury’s still out on that one. And his hands-down favorite holiday is Halloween, which holds a very special place in Adam’s heart.

Excerpt #1 Miles rubbed his chin and felt the growth of a day’s beard. He could barely remember the night before except that he had lost a goodly sum on whist, and he vaguely recalled a blonde half-naked in his arms.
He opened his eyes gingerly and saw that there was no blonde in sight, and he was indeed lying in a bed in one of his favorite brothels. The curtains covering the windows were crimson red, and the bed was a plush mattress in an ornate wooden frame with baby cupids detailed in the artwork. He groaned as his head ached; he had lost count of the number of whiskeys he had consumed the night before.
He contemplated looking for his trousers and getting dressed, but he knew that would cause his head to pound more. He preferred to lie in bed a while more until he felt a little better.
A sharp knock fell upon the door, and he looked up, wincing. He looked around but knew he was very much alone. Had the blonde returned? He wasn’t up for any more love play.
“Come in,” he called out.
He grinned with relief when his companion and long-time friend from university, Percival Browne, entered the room.
“You look like half-baked shit,” Percival told his friend as he picked up Miles’s trousers from the floor. Miles groaned as he caught the pants Percival flung at him.
“I don’t remember much of last night, Percy. Except that I lost a fair amount, and there was a blonde.” He tossed the bed sheets back and pulled on his trousers.
“Do you see my shir—” he began just as the clothing article hit him in the face.
“Cheers, mate,” Percival said as he took a chair opposite the bed. Miles narrowed his eyes at his friend as he pulled his shirt on.
“And did you say, ‘lost a fair amount?’” Percy eased the chair back. “If I recall the exact amount you lost as the correct amount, your best bet is to go to America and start afresh, so your father doesn’t skin you alive.”

Synopsis
A new teacher at a New England prep school ignites a gender war–with deadly consequences.
What do you love? What do you hate? What do you want?
It starts with this simple writing prompt from Alex Witt, Stonebridge Academy’s new creative writing teacher. When the students’ answers raise disturbing questions of their own, Ms. Witt knows there’s more going on the school than the faculty wants to see. She soon learns about The Ten–the students at the top of the school’s social hierarchy–as well as their connection to something called The Darkroom.
Ms. Witt can’t remain a passive observer. She finds the few girls who’ve started to question the school’s “boys will be boys” attitude and incites a resistance that quickly becomes a movement. But just as it gains momentum, she also attracts the attention of an unknown enemy who knows a little too much about her–including what brought her to Stonebridge in the first place.
Meanwhile, Gemma, a defiant senior, has been plotting her attack for years, waiting for the right moment. Shy loner Norman hates his role in the Darkroom, but can’t find the courage to fight back until he makes an unlikely alliance. And then there’s Finn Ford, an English teacher with a shady reputation who keeps one eye on his literary ambitions and one on Ms. Witt.
As the school’s secrets begin to trickle out, a boys-versus-girls skirmish turns into an all-out war, with deeply personal–and potentially fatal–consequences for everyone involved.

My Review Told from various third-person points of view, THE SWALLOWS is a deep-dive into the world of privileged boys meets aggrieved girls hellbent on revenge. When new teacher, Alex Witt, assigns a routine paper for students to anonymously tell her something about themselves, she discovers an ugly secret society of misogynistic boys who rate girls on their unique abilities. What she discovers will ignite a fire under the girls to fight back and get even, with tragic consequences. The mystery of what the Darkroom is and means to students at Stonebridge Academy unfolds slowly, leaving the reader turning the pages to find out what happens next. It all builds to an ugly climax that leaves everyone forever changed.
Plot This is my first novel by Lutz and I’m hooked. She weaves a captivating tale, building suspense, gluing me to the pages, or in the case, my Kindle screen. More than a few hours of sacrificed sleep were involved. Her characters are so complex, damaged, real, and very well distinguished from one another, that I always knew whose point of view I was reading. Though she sets up the tragedy throughout the story, it doesn’t ruin the ending. All we know is something bad is going to happen, but so much builds throughout the preceding chapters, there’s no way to know exactly what it’ll be.
Characters The cast is full of diverse, well-developed, well-differentiated characters. Because it’s told in so many first-person points of view, this was key, and the author knocked it out of the park. Lutz does an amazing job of crafting compelling characters to tell her story. Even the ones I didn’t like, I still felt like i really understood.
What I Loved About THE SWALLOWS 1. Pacing. The story is expertly paced to keep me turning the virtual pages.
2. Alex Witt. The primary protagonist and the most damaged of the bunch. She was the perfect blend of jaded teacher and inspirational mentor.
3. Getting Even. The girls fighting back with what they had available was one of my favorite parts of the story.
4. Characters. A thrilling cast brought this story to life in a way that other characters wouldn’t have been able to carry.
5. Ending. Without giving anything away, I love the way the author concludes her tale and the ramifications it has on her characters’ lives.
Bottom Line A thrilling tale of lust, power trips, and revenge.
Disclaimer I was provided with a copy of the book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Excerpt #3 “I know you’re awake so you may as well open your eyes. The lights are dim so they shouldn’t hurt your head. Our healer would like to get a good look at you before she does any healing.”
The faintly sardonic voice prodded her, and the rest of the events coalesced. Kane MacKinnon. Kayleigh. The accident. Her eyes flew open, and she winced at the light that sliced into her brain.
“Turn it down.” Her voice was raspy, hoarse as if she’d been screaming.
The lights went lower until they just illuminated the figure sitting by her bed. Kane leaned forward until his face was a few inches from hers. “Sorry. I thought it would be low enough. You’re pretty light sensitive for a human.”
Yeah, she wasn’t about to tell him about her wolf half or that she had some heightened senses. She’d keep that to herself, especially now that she was in the belly of the beast. Kayleigh had figured it out and swore to keep her secret, though she told her that the MacKinnons would support her and not be like the ones who’d killed her father. For now, Sheridan would reserve judgement.
She tried to lift her head, but the pain sliced right through her as if an axe had tried to cleave her.
Kane stood and pressed a firm hand to her shoulder. “Stay still. Our healer will be right with you. She was working on Vanessa, since she was awake. She wanted you awake before she started, especially since she doesn’t know you.”
“What… What about Kayleigh? Is she okay? What happened?”
“We had hoped you could tell us.”

Knox is left questioning what secrets she’s hiding, and how hard he’ll have to work to scale the fortress she’s built around her heart.
Zadie Redmond isn’t like most women. A life spent looking over her shoulder has destroyed the promising future she’d once envisioned. Her days are spent leading hunting and fishing adventures or teaching tiny ballerinas the proper way to plié. She fills her evenings with do-it-yourself projects while worrying about the day her past catches up with her. In an unexpected moment, the local deputy swoops into her world like a storybook hero and she knows nothing will ever be the same. Zadie will do anything to keep Knox safe from the danger lurking in the shadows, even if it destroys her chance at love.
Will Knox convince Zadie she can trust him with her secrets and her heart?
A sweet romance full of quirky small-town fun, Distracting the Deputy is a story of hope, help, and hanging on to what matters most.

Excerpt #4 He could tell the moment Zadie realized she wasn’t alone. Unlike most people who would have been embarrassed and made excuses for trespassing, she opened one eye to see who had dared interrupt her moment of solitude in the fading August sun.
“I know I shouldn’t be out here, Deputy Strickland, but the wheat field called to me, and I had to answer,” she said with a sassy grin.
“Called to you?” He spoke in a hushed tone. Something about this evening warranted whispers, maybe even a few secrets.
Rather than answer, Zadie closed her eyes and returned to brushing her fingers over the beards of wheat in a light caress. For a fleeting moment, Knox wondered what it would be like to feel her touch against his skin.
“What’s going to happen next?” he asked in mock seriousness. “Is the hayfield over there going to serenade you?”
Zadie laughed softly. “No. Don’t be absurd. The scrub jays have done a superb job of that.”
He stood perfectly still, listening with his heart as much as his ears. Birds sang to each other. Water chink-chinked out of a pivot. The breeze wound through the wheat, making it almost sound like a pair of brush sticks scratching across a drum.
Absorbed in the moment, he finally turned his focus back to Zadie. “For the record, I’m off duty, so I suppose that means we’re both trespassing.” He gave her another long glance. “What are you really doing out here?”
Zadie opened her eyes and turned to face him. “I’ve never walked through a field of ripe wheat. It seemed like a great evening to cross that experience off my list of things I want to someday do. It’s magnificent, like the breeze and the birds and the land make their own music.”
Uncertain what to say in response to a statement both poetic and peculiar, Knox merely nodded.

Author Eden Butler is revealing the cover to DARIO, the second book in the adult romantic suspense series, The Carelli Family Saga, releasing July 20, 2021. See below for the cover, information on the book and series, preorder links, and a link to add it to your Goodreads TBR.
DARIO (The Carelli Family Saga Series #2) by Eden Butler
Synopsis Dario Carelli has one job—get the new bakery owner to fall in line.
Cuoricino, New York, their sleepy, small town, has rules. Rules his ironically kind-hearted mob boss brother set in place to keep everyone safe. But Ava Anderson has no intention of following a single one.
The woman is a hassle Dario doesn’t need. She ignores his ultimatums and mocks his intimidating guards, sending them back to him with a basket of baked goods and amped up on too much espresso.
If Dario thought the charm he once had before landing in prison for a crime that wasn’t his would work, he’d teach Miss Ava a lesson in pleasure she wouldn’t soon forget.
But behind her sarcastic tone and forced smiles, Dario recognizes the same flight-or-fight look in Ava’s eyes that had grown sharper in his own reflection during his time locked inside one of New York’s roughest prisons: the desperation of someone with nothing left to lose.
When Ava takes off, only to return months later pretending she’s not looking over her shoulder every time she walks down the street, Dario realizes there’s something more dangerous in Cuoricino than the enemies his brother’s rules try to safeguard: a woman he’d die to possess and kill to protect.

Synopsis “What would you do if Death gave you a second chance?”
Most people who escaped death were relieved, happy to be granted that second chance at life. In my case, it was more of a curse than a blessing.
Everyday I woke, I was tortured with another soul. They all wanted something from me, but I couldn’t give it to them. Instead, I ignored them. I neglected the pain they had laced beneath their hollow eyes. I dismissed the screams that shattered my eardrums every time my head hit the pillow.
The souls took pleasure in patronizing me. They were a constant reminder of why I shouldn’t have been granted a second chance.
I had managed to escape Death twice, but the third time was my undoing. He came back with a heavy vengeance. Suddenly, I was thrown into a battle between two brothers. Heaven and Hell. Light versus Dark.
They both needed me on their side, but after facing Death for the third time, I wasn’t sure I would survive the cruel fate he had planned.

Excerpt #2 A minute later, the doorbell rang. I glanced at Emery and noticed she was still in her peaceful slumber, when I made my way to the door and opened it. Deagan’s crooked smile greeted me on the other side of the door as I let him in. “Took you long enough.”
I closed it shut behind him and rubbed my hands over my face. “What now?”
His footsteps sounded against the hardwood floors as he made his way over to her. He bent at the knee and examined her face. ”Damn, I forgot how beautiful she was.”
I cleared my throat and got a harsh look in return. “I wonder what would happen if we rewrote history this time…” he trailed off and my shackles rose.
My face scrunched. There was no way in hell that was happening. “What are you talking about?”
His fingers caressed her cheek, and my body stiffened. “I mean, what if instead of her falling for you, she fell for me?”
I took a few steps forward. “That’s not how it works—”
“Don’t you think I know that, Ace? Fuck, why do you get the happy ending and I don’t?” he asked, his voice pleading.
“I didn’t get my happy ending.” I said through clenched teeth. He damn well knew what happened last time and that’s why I was doing everything in my power to prevent it.
He stood up and his hands balled into fists at his sides. “Didn’t you though? You got the girl. I stood back and ruled from the pits of Hell while you galivanted off like some fucking hero.”

THE PERFECT MURDER (Maximum Security Series #4) by Kat Martin
Synopsis New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin is back with her most thrilling novel yet in the Maximum Security series—The Perfect Murder. Fans of Sandra Brown, Linda Howard and Julie Garwood will fall in love with The Max.
The eldest of the three wealthy Garrett brothers, Reese Garrett is in the middle of a major purchase for his multimillion-dollar oil and gas company, Garrett Resources. The Poseidon offshore drilling platform venture will greatly enhance the company’s value.
But when Reese is on a trip out to see the rig, his helicopter crashes, leaving him hospitalized and two men dead. It’s discovered the chopper was sabotaged, and Reese is determined to find out who’s behind the crash—and whether he was the intended target. Then, when his lover, Kenzie, is accused of her ex-husband’s murder—a man with a vested interest in the Poseidon deal—clues start pointing to a connection that puts Reese, Kenzie and her young son in the sights of a killer.
From the Texas heat to the Louisiana bayous, Reese and his brothers must track down the truth before the body count gets any higher.
—————————————————————————————
—————————————————————————————
Excerpt #2 “I’ve got a few things I need to add to my schedule,” he said. “Derek Stiles called yesterday. Looks like we’re having more problems with the rig.”
“You’ll get them sorted.” She flashed him a smile. “You always do.”
But there was one thing he was having more and more trouble handling and it was standing right in front of him.
Reese clenched his jaw and went to work.
He was sitting at his desk two hours later when his intercom buzzed.
“It’s Frank Milburn,” Kenzie said. “He has news about the crash.”
Milburn was in charge of the NTSB investigation. “Put him through.” Reese pressed the speaker button and settled back in his chair.
“I know you’ve been anxious to hear from us,” Frank said, a small man with close-cropped brown hair. “I wish we could have completed the investigation sooner, but these things take time.”
“I’m aware. So what have you found out?”
“The last of the reports came in. We’d been waiting for some metal structural tests. Combined with the rest of the information we’ve assembled, the reports revealed what we had recently begun to suspect but until today weren’t able to confirm.”
“Go on.”
“Sometime before the flight took off the morning of the crash, someone tampered with the engine. A piece of metal in one of the gears was filed just enough to cause it to grind itself to pieces. The flight control mechanism disconnected, rendering the helo uncontrollable. To put it in layman’s terms, the helicopter was sabotaged.”
Tension tightened Reese’s shoulders. He didn’t ask Milburn if he was sure. The NTSB team had been investigating the crash for weeks. Two men were dead. The authorities had to be extremely thorough. The question now was who had done it? And why?
“Have you found out who’s responsible?” Reese asked.
“Unfortunately, not yet. As we’ve known from the start and you were informed, pilot error contributed heavily to the event. There should have been room for the chopper to safely auto-rotate down, but the pilot misjudged his position. He came in too close to the building, one of blades clipped the corner, and the helicopter was torn apart.”
“So what, exactly, do you know?”
“As of today, we know a criminal act was committed that ended up causing the deaths of two men. As of this morning, the FBI will be taking over the investigation. They’ll be actively pursuing whoever is responsible for the crime, now a double murder.”
Murder. The news sent a chill down Reese’s spine. He leaned over his desk, shut off the speaker, and picked up the phone. “Whatever you find out, I’ll expect you to keep me in the loop.”
“I’ll do my best,” Milburn said. “It’ll be more difficult once the gears of the FBI begin to turn.”
He understood how a federal agency worked. Lots of interlocking pieces and parts that inevitably slowed things down. The call ended, but Reese had no intention of leaving the matter in the hands of some governmental bureaucracy, not even the FBI. The feds would have to start over, look at the crash from an entirely different angle. It could take weeks, even months.
Two men were dead and he could have been the third. He thought of the accidents that had been plaguing the Poseidon. The helo crash hadn’t been accidental. The chopper was meant to go down.

Synopsis Turning the big four-five isn’t a problem for Everly Popa—it’s everything else in her life that’s gone to hell in a handbasket.
It’s bad enough that Everly’s drug-selling husband is in jail and her adult daughter blames her for the situation. But now the FBI wants her to turn witness, while her husband’s criminal friends want to keep her permanently silent. With no other safe haven, Everly returns to her hometown. A place she hasn’t visited in twenty-seven years. And didn’t leave under the best of circumstances.
It’s not that Everly has a problem with her hometown, exactly, but since it sits next to Hell’s Gate, there’s bound to be a few issues. Like the archaic rules set by the angels who run the town. Or the fact that the townsfolk feel Everly abandoned her duties as one of the members of the town’s founding families. But between celestial politics or getting gunned down by a drug cartel, Everly decides to chance finding sanctuary back home.
After a little good-versus-evil stunt at the town’s border, Everly is let back in and for the first five minutes, things are great. Everly’s mom hasn’t started nagging and she has a whole bottle of wine to herself. But after minute six, all hell breaks loose. Everly gets bitten by a hellhound, faints in front of her hot-and-single old high school boyfriend, and accidentally becomes the town’s Gatekeeper to Hell. A job she never wanted, isn’t trained for, and can’t shake off like gum stuck to her shoe. And as much as she’s flipping out, the celestial ruling body aren’t too pleased about it either.
Before Everly can take a deep breath and figure a way out of this mess, an angel gets killed, humans go missing and the town shuts its magical borders. Now Everly is trapped inside with dying angels, rampaging demons, and a witch with a murderous agenda. Plus, an archangel and his army surround the city and are itching to contain the town’s problems with a heaven-sent big boom. The only way out is for Everly to learn how to use her newly acquired Gatekeeper powers. But with no handbook provided, there’s a snowball’s chance in hell she’ll figure it out in time.

Excerpt ONE When all the good choices have disappeared faster than kids at chore time
If eighteen was the age of exciting self-discovery, then forty-five was the weary age of having zero shits left to give.
What did it matter if my husband of twenty years was rotting in federal jail? And that our chiropractic clinic had gone belly up, leaving me jobless? Or that my friends had turned from “we’ll help hide a body” to “we’ve got your back until the reporters hit our lawn?” I also didn’t care that the DEA had frozen our joint bank accounts and seized our assets. I never liked that ho use anyway.
Homeless. Jobless. Friendless.
Add in a pickup truck, beer, and an old dog and it would be the most pathetic country song played on the tiniest fiddle ever. I gritted my teeth as the wipers shrieked across the windshield. Nothing like driving through a late-October downpour to add to your misery, and the constantly patched roads in this part of Central Texas didn’t handle rain well.
My phone rang with its cheerful tone that I kept forgetting to change. Sadie’s name lit up on the display, and I almost knocked it off the dashboard holder while hitting the speaker button. “Sadie? Is everything okay? How’s Laney?” I really hoped the trembling in my voice wasn’t audible. My daughter hadn’t spoken to me in two months, refusing to answer my calls or respond to my texts. Her girlfriend had even gone so far as to block me on her social media.
“Mom? Where are you? God, this connection sucks.” Her voice had a recognizable anxious edge to it. I wanted to ask if she was taking her meds, but at twenty-one Sadie hated coddling. “Someone needs to talk to you.”
“What?” I eased onto the shoulder of the road, then placed the truck into park. “Who?”
“Mrs. Collins? Uh, Everly Collins? This is Sam Duncan, your husband’s attorney? We really must discuss your husband’s case.”
I glanced at the clock on my dash: 10:33 p.m. Duncan was raking in some serious OT. “What the hell are you doing with my daughter?”
“Mrs. Collins?” He lowered his voice. “I know you’ve been advised not to speak with me. But you really need to before certain other people do. We can meet anywhere you want.”

ROOSTER (Devil’s Boneyard MC Series #8) by Harley Wylde
Synopsis
Alora I’ve prided myself on being a strong, independent woman and not needing anyone. I didn’t become a bestselling author by the age of twenty out of pure dumb luck. I worked my tail off to get as far as I have. But there are few perks to having a man in my life. Laughter, romance, and companionship. Battery operated boyfriends can only do so much. Too bad the guy who sets me on fire is a bossy biker who wants to claim me. No way I’m letting him label me as property. Nope. Not happening. Doesn’t matter if he does make my knees weak and my heart race. I’m not giving in!
Rooster Of all the women to capture my interest, it had to be the most stubborn, sexy, adorable woman on the planet. I love her mind, her sense of humor, and the way she fills out a pair of shorts. I don’t even mind that she’s an exhibitionist, as long as no one touches. Doesn’t matter to me her uncles were both rotten to the core. The Devil’s Fury may think she belongs to them, but I have other plans. Alora will be mine — no matter the cost.
WARNING: Rooster is part of the Devil’s Boneyard MC series. There are adult situations and bad language. No cliffhanger. Happily-ever-after and laughter guaranteed!

Excerpt #1: The front door nearly rattled off the hinges when someone started pounding on it. If I hadn’t known King Kong was a fictional character, I’d think he was on my porch. What the hell?
I narrowed my eyes in the direction of the front entry and went to answer it. It wasn’t like I knew anyone in town. I’d only been here a month, which made it doubtful I’d pissed anyone off — yet. I yanked it open, ready to tear into whoever was on the other side, but stopped and stared.
The man arched his eyebrows and tipped his sunglasses down enough to peer over the top of them. God, why did I find that so sexy? He’d braced an arm against the doorframe and his muscles bulged. I licked my lips and tried to remember how to speak. As my gaze skimmed over him, it snagged on the black leather over his shoulders. Fuck. It was one of the bikers.
Rooster – Devil’s Boneyard MC.
“You going to let me in, a ghrá?”
His voice sent chills down my spine and my nipples hardened against my thin tank. He smirked, clearly knowing the effect he had on me. Asshole.
“I don’t let strangers into my home,” I said. I peered over his shoulder and saw another man on a motorcycle at the curb. It seemed only one of them wanted to come into the house. Thank goodness for small favors.
He leaned in, the scent of cinnamon and cloves making me want to breathe in deep. “But we’re not strangers. You’re Twister’s niece, which makes you Devil’s Fury property. Since we consider them family, that makes you mine.”
