Synopsis
I never meant to stay. The plan was to fix up the farmhouse, sell it, and leave. Then I met Drew.
I’m a stranger in this place. When a car accident nearly killed me, Mom took me away from my father and this small Texas town. Now, I’m back, and while everyone seems to remember the little girl I used to be, no one knows the woman I’ve become. That’s okay. I’m not here to reconnect or fix what’s broken between my father and me. I’m just here to fix the house I inherited, sell it, and go.
Then I meet Bodhi, the three-legged cat who keeps peeing on my porch. And along comes Bodhi’s dad, Drew, the protective firefighter with rough hands, a smooth smile, and such a dirty mouth.
Drew has a reputation for rescuing strays. Is that what I am, another stray for him to rescue? Or this time, maybe I’ll be the rescuer.
Hearts on Fire is a dual POV, small town, scorching hot, firefighter romance with an HEA. Contains mature language and themes.

Excerpt #2 Drew
“You’ve been busy.” I sound impressed because I am. “Did you get all that wood out of here by yourself?”
She nods, beaming, then adds, “I can handle a little wood on my own.”
Did she just…? Why, yes, I believe she did just open the innuendo door. And here I come to bust through it like the fucking Kool-Aid Man. Oh yeah! “But how are you at handling big wood?”
Her eyes go wide, and she practically spits out a laugh. “You got some big wood around here that needs handling, Drew?”
Oh, Chloe, Chloe, Chloe, it’s game on now. You have no idea the beast you’ve unleashed.
To throw her off balance, I point to the pile of fresh lumber. “Well, there’s this big pile of wood right here.”
She raises a brow, trying to read something into my words. But there’s nothing there. That would be too obvious, and that’s not how I play this game. With my most earnest expression, I suggest, “Let’s get to work. I’ll help you get this wood into place.”
I use the ladder to climb into the attic, crouching where the first beam will go. From here I have an excellent vantage point for watching Chloe bend over to retrieve a piece of big wood. Her ass is a masterpiece, sculpted by the gods and probably lots of squats. I want my hands on it. I want my hands on every part of her, followed by my mouth.
She stands and turns with the board on her shoulder, looking like a total badass. I blink to wipe the nefarious thoughts from my head and focus on the job at hand.
Clearing my throat, I ask, “Do you need to cut these down to size, or are we going to let them run wild?”
“Big wood should run wild, don’t you think?” she says with a wink as she hands one end of the wood up to me. Nice. Chloe wants to play.
I hold my end in place while she moves the ladder and takes her end to the far side of the room, fitting it up over the load-bearing wall. When she grabs her hammer and a nail, I lend her some encouragement in my bedroom voice. “That’s it, Chloe. Right there. Nail that wood.”
“Oh my God!” She laughs so hard she nearly smashes her thumb—whoops.
I wait for her to collect herself and position the nail against the joist again. “Fuck, yes, that‘s the spot.”
Laughing, she shakes her head and focuses on hammering.
“Harder!” I demand. “Faster!”
I can’t help noticing she hits that nail a little harder, moving a little faster. I like how well she takes direction.
“Don’t stop, Chloe. All the way in. Yes. Just like that, nice and tight.”
When the joist is attached, she gives me a grimace and a raised eyebrow. With a wink, I nail my end to the joist that spans the other half of the house. I swing down out of the attic and hang from the joist we just nailed to execute one, two, three chin-ups before I let go. My boots hit the floor with a boom.
“You thirsty?” I ask, my voice low, my question dripping with double meaning.
She climbs down the ladder. “Do you really think that’s all it’ll take to make me thirsty?”
Stepping into her space again, I wait for her to look up at me before I say, “Well, I’m thirsty for something sweet. You got anything to wet my mouth and whet my craving?”
She stares at my mouth and licks her lips. Oh yeah, she’s thirsty all right.
My gloves come off so I can brush a strand of hair behind her ear. “How about some juice?”
Her eyelashes flutter a bit before she furrows her brow. “Huh?” She blinks, clears her throat. “Uh…”
“Orange, apple, grape… I’m not picky. I’ll help myself if you don’t mind.” I walk into her kitchen, light on my feet, acting like I don’t know I’ve just melted her panties.

Synopsis Two high school BFFs reunite and endeavor to fix each other’s lives in this geeky romance from the author of Love, Comment, Subscribe.
Tam Doan dumped her boyfriend after he threw away her gourmet cheese. Sure, it’s a little more complicated than that, but the point is, he had it coming. Newly single and unemployed, Tam calls up her best friend from high school and utters the emergency code word—goldfish. Next thing she knows, she’s on a plane back home.
Josh O’Malley was a troubled, unconfident teenager. Now he’s the successful owner of a multimillion-dollar ghost kitchen. Tam, his high school BFF and fellow member of the Nerd Herd friend group, was instrumental in building his self-esteem. When she calls him out of the blue, he jumps at the chance to return the favor.
Josh and Tam immediately get to work fixing her life—but again, it’s complicated. Their close friendship was always a lifeline between them; a blooming romance might confuse things. Still, at least one thing is for certain: their chemistry is un-brie-lievable.

Excerpt “Hey, Tam?”
“Mmm?” She glanced over to find him staring at her.
“You know I love you, right?” He looked so earnest. So sincere. “You’re the most important person in my life. And I don’t take that lightly.”
She sighed. Then she crawled out of bed, went over to his bed, and gave him a huge, almost bruising hug, breathing in the scent of his neck. She felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes.

Excerpt He probably should just ignore it, let it go to voice mail. But . . .
Damn it. He knew people in New York, and maybe it was an emergency.
You only know two people in New York, at least well enough for them to call this late, and it’s been years.
He grimaced, then accepted the call. “Hello?”
There was a pause, a long one. And he was ready to hang up when he heard a short impatient huff, then a woman’s low voice. “Goldfish.”
Every muscle in his body tensed.
He knew that voice. And he knew what it meant when she said that word.
“Do I need to kill someone, baby girl,” he said automatically, “or just help you hide ‘em?”

THE ONLY MAN (From Connemara With Love Series) by A.S. Kelly
Synopsis I was a different man, once. I was a man with only one woman on my mind – the only woman I wanted to hold in my arms. I was her man.
But things change. Life changes you. Choices, mistakes, resentment: they all change you. So do unkept promises. We hurt each other. We loved each other, then hated each other, then missed each other, then grew apart.
And then… One day, we found each other again. At the wrong time, in the wrong place. Because the two of us are wrong together – we’re too far apart, too incompatible. We’re the main characters of a story that doesn’t belong to us.
But I still keep loving her, even though she hates me. And she keeps hating herself, because she can’t help but love me. And we keep searching for each other, even though we’re destined to lose each other.
I wish I could be a different man, just once. I wish I could be the kind of man who’s ready to give everything for the woman he loves. Someone who was ready to let her go.
Because I want her to be happy more than I want her to be mine.

Excerpt #2 “The first time we came here, you got me drunk.” Luckily, she changes the subject.
“It was just one beer. I didn’t think you’d start throwing up all over the grass.”
“I snuck out to see you.”
“I’d told Andy where to stick it. Classic.”
Darcy laughs.
“You held my hair back while I was throwing up.”
“It was long. I didn’t want it to get dirty.”
“Then you kissed me, even though I’d just been sick.”
“You were embarrassed, and I didn’t want you to feel like that around me.”
Her expression grows serious.
“Was that love?”
“It was. But so is this.”
She doesn’t add anything, but rolls back over to look at the stars. I lie there, watching her.
I never really cared about the stars. I brought her here because I loved the fact that they would gossip about us at home and at work, but here, we could run away together. I loved her hair, and the way it fluttered out of the window. I loved her legs, which were always crossed in the passenger seat. I loved the way she looked at me when she thought I was watching the road.
And I loved the way she loved me.
“You’re not looking at the stars,” she points out.

My first friend, first love, and first heartbreak. Now he’s just my ex-husband.
It’s been three years. It’s time to let go of the past. I’d recognize it anywhere. It was the last gift Nate ever received from his father.
The man holding the guitar is different than the one I left behind in Nashville, but one thing remains the same, Nate Pearson will always be the love of my life.
The reasons why I asked for a divorce haven’t changed. Only problem is, Nate Pearson says he still loves me, and this time he’s playing for keeps.

Excerpt #3 “Permission to come aboard?” she calls as I hear the familiar sound of her feet jumping onto the boat. When she peeks into the cabin, my heart literally skips a beat at the sight of her. Her blonde hair is pulled back into two braids like she had it at the Linden Place event, and she has a light gloss on her lips. With her signature ripped shorts and a white T-shirt, Amelia is wearing my favorite outfit, and she knows it. She gives me a quiet smile—it’s my favorite kind. The one that tells me that she’s just happy to be with me. Not because I said something funny or teased her about something—she has different smiles for those—but this one, this one is the Nate Pearson smile, and I fucking love it.
“What’s mine is yours, sweetheart. You never have to ask permission.”
She rolls her eyes, but her smile remains. “I brought Chinese,” she replies, ignoring my flirting.
“Dad’s favorite.”
Amelia nods. “But if you lay a finger on my Crab Rangoon, I’ll cut you.” She glares at me, and I laugh. I always pretend to find the entire idea of a pastry stuffed with cream cheese and imitation crab meat as disgusting and then I eat her last one. The truth is I do hate them, but I like riling Amelia up more, so I always swallow the taste just to get a rise out of her.
“As if I would touch them,” I say, playing along with our old game.
She rolls her eyes and shakes her head again. It’s her go-to response with me these days. “Oh, Amelia Pearson,” I sigh out, “have I ever told you, you’re my favorite person?”
Amelia’s hand stops midair as she puts the food down, and she stares at me entranced. As if she’s really hearing me for once. She closes her eyes and just sits in the moment. I take the opportunity to step closer and remove the bag from her hand, placing it on the table.
“You make even the worst days, my best ones. I would live this day a hundred times over if I could end it right here with you.”
Amelia’s head tilts toward me, as if my words are an actual caress against her cheek. I lift my hand to her face and rub my thumb against her velvety soft skin. “I love you more than you know, and like you even more than that.”
She whimpers in protest and opens her eyes, piercing me with her brokenness. “Nate, please, I want to be here for you tonight, but I can’t do this…” She pauses and motions between us. “Let me be your friend.”
The raw pain in her gaze, the hurt I see in her expression, slices me. I pull her against my chest and whisper into her hair, “I can be your friend.” As I go to pull away, she pulls me back and hugs me tightly.
“You’ve always been my favorite person,” she whispers against my chest.
Tears that have threatened to spill all day break free, and a sob escapes as I realize that I’m finally home.

Welcome to the book blitz for DEAR ISOBEL, a standalone adult contemporary women’s fiction by Jinny Alexander. See below for information on the book, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and details on her giveaway.
Synopsis Two marriages, a bucket full of dreams and a pile of broken hearts.
She’s not sharing her name. She’s been judged enough.
Once, she had it all: a supportive husband, lovely children, and a prestigious career revitalising failing businesses in the wake of Ireland’s recession.
When her friend Isobel suggested she take on a new job in their tiny rural community, she didn’t expect to fall in love.
Now she has become the other woman, the marriage wrecker, the cheat, and the betrayer.
When the illicit relationship ends, she’s stuck between the ruined affair and a crumbling marriage. Jobless and bereft, she must try to salvage what remains.
Will talking to Isobel help pick up the pieces or shatter their lives forever?
————————————————————————————–
Excerpt #2 My tears anger her, she does not understand them. Nonetheless, it still catches me unawares, almost an entire week later, when I am the recipient of the emotional outburst bleeping into my inbox to inform me that my own emotional outbursts are unwelcome.
Dear Isobel, Thank you for your emotional outburst to ask me not to have any emotional outbursts. It is good of you, as always, to tell me not to reply, just in case we begin an everlasting text conversation reminding each other not to have emotional outbursts.
Among the many things I cannot comprehend, I cannot comprehend her lack of understanding that this is an emotional time for me, as well as for her. How can she not understand I have lost the family I’ve known for the last four years and that her family have lost me? How can she not understand that for me to leave everything I ever wanted behind me, with the tears I shed on her doorstep, will undoubtedly make me cry and cry and cry? I know I am the cheater and not the cheated, but, at times like this, it still feels as if we have lost the same things, Isobel and me. I can still put myself in her shoes, so why can she no longer fit into mine? Her text is emotional, with misspellings and anger, and I can tell she has been drinking.
Dear Isobel, You should hide your phone before you open wine.
There is an element of hypocrisy I must admit to, as I send this text with the uncomfortable knowledge that I, too, should hide my own wine, along with my phone.
Dear Isobel, It is good of you to keep up this regular contact, approximately once weekly, I believe so far, to remind me not to have any contact with you. I appreciate it.
She clearly doesn’t realise I will think of her weekly even without her reminding me not to think of her. Daily, even. Hourly, in fact. I wonder will there ever come a time when she and Charles do not fill my thoughts in all my waking hours?
Dear Isobel, Why don’t you realise that each time you contact me, it triggers a thousand memories, and I then spend far longer thinking of your husband than I was before your message came through?
Although I was pleased to have seen him, and to have spoken to him, while the girls had their lesson on that dark night, and to have remained calm and civil, I then go to bed thinking of him, and wishing it was not like this. I lie against my own husband—I drape my arms and legs around and across and over him—but it is not him I am thinking of as I fall asleep.
Dear Isobel, Which of us is Charles thinking of as he lies next to you and falls asleep?

Synopsis The bane of Mordred, the son of Mordizan, and a millennia-old prophecy—together they may provide what Brinnie needs to defeat the world of magic’s greatest threat.
More than a year has passed since Brinnie left Wraithwood, never expecting to see it again. But when Mordred captures her sister, she is thrust back into the world of magic. She flees to Wraithwood, where she learns of a prophecy located in the dark wizard capital of Mordizan that reveals the identity of “Mordred’s bane,” something that could destroy Mordred for good.
Brinnie agrees to a rendezvous with Mordred to exchange herself for her sister, going undercover at Mordizan as a spy to find the prophecy and Mordred’s bane. There, she weaves a complicated web of secrets, lies, and tenuous friendships. She makes an unexpected ally in Marcus Vorath, son of the Master of Mordizan, who fears the implications of Mordred’s growing power. But in Mordizan, friends and foes may be one and the same.
In the midst of court intrigue, battle, ominous new depths to her power, and searching for Mordred’s bane, Brinnie struggles to draw the lines. How far is she willing to go to destroy Mordred? And how much of herself is she willing to give up along the way?
—————————————————————————–
Excerpt #2 Crunching dirt gave way to rough stone as Brinnie stepped onto the bridge. The stream burbled beneath her, leaves twirling in the eddies, the woods serene.
The calm before the storm.
Brinnie fixed her eyes ahead. As she reached the middle of the bridge, she felt something like a ripple.
Where trees had once lined a dirt path on the other side of the bridge, a grassy plain stretched before her. In the distance, a stocky castle of the same stone as the bridge rose on the top of a hill, pennants flying from the battlements. Brinnie could just make out forms stationed on the wall. Ringing the castle from a safe distance were the tents of an enemy.
And in front of her, a guard station squatted at the other end of the bridge, manned by two sentinels in black and red livery.
Welcome to the dimension of magic. It appeared not much had changed in the past millennium. She was completely out of her depth. What did she know about any of this? Her heart beat faster.
“Halt.” The two sentinels lowered their spears.
She put her hands in the air, not moving from the center of the bridge. “I’m here to see Mordred.”
“Are you the shadowmaster?” the one on her left called.
“Yes.”
“Prove it,” the other growled.
Hands shaking, she drew shadows to her and let them swirl into her hand, an eddy of darkness.
The first nodded and gestured toward their end of the bridge. “This way.”
Brinnie remained firmly in place. “Please tell Mordred that I’ll meet him here. And tell him to bring his prisoners for the trade.”
The first man laughed. “You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you?”
Leaves rustled behind her. She whirled to see six armed men emerge from the trees, two dropping from branches above.
Her heart pounded. A trap. They’d watched her approach. For how long? Did they know Uncle Merlin was here?
She forced her voice not to waver. “I was told this would be a peaceful exchange.”
The sentinel stepped forward. “You were told wrong.”
Brinnie backed away, arms out. She felt the shadows dappling the bridge around her beginning to stir. Good. She felt the ripple again—she’d backed out of the Alternate, but now, she could still see the landscape of that dimension. Evidently, once crossed, the Alternate became clear. Also good. The plan could still work. “You don’t want to do this,” she warned.
Her words went ignored. The men behind her strode forward, and the sentinels in front of her approached.
A hair-raising howl floated through the trees from outside the circle of men. The soldiers exclaimed as a dozen shadow wolves broke from the forest and wove between them to surround Brinnie in a circle, facing outward and growling.
She patted one with relief. Thanks, guys.
“Still have your little pets, I see.” The familiar voice sent chills up her spine.
Brinnie turned back toward the guardhouse. The sentinels stepped aside to let a tall figure pass. His black robes rippled, like some gaunt, dark priest. “Brynna Ludovic. A pleasure.”
The wolves snarled.
“Mordred.” She gestured to the men encircling her. “What is this?”
“A misunderstanding, I believe.” He glared at the sentinel on his right. “Under whose orders have you accosted my guest?”
The man shrank away. “Master Vorath’s, sir.”
“Does he so fear a young girl that he would send half an army against her?”
The two sentinels exchanged nervous glances. “No, sir, but a shadowmaster—”
“So he fears one wizard?” Mordred’s gaze bored into him. “I didn’t take Vorath for a coward.” He waved a hand at the men advancing on Brinnie. “Dismissed.”
The soldiers stepped back, fading into the forest once more.
As they dispersed, Mordred smiled at her, revealing too-white teeth. “What would Arthur have thought if he knew that his line would give rise to a mistress of shadows?”

Excerpt #1 “Putting you out of your misery and replying to the man… anddd done!” she shoved my phone back into my hand.
I stared down at the screen and sure enough she had replied.
Layla: I’d really like that. When are you coming into town?
My breath caught in my throat. Before I could recover my equilibrium, my phone buzzed.
Vic: In about 2 weeks. I’ve got a business meeting. I’ll send you my travel plans, and we can set up a time to meet.
My heart fluttered in my chest. It was happening. I was seeing him again.
“Did he respond?” Alex asked.
“…He said he’ll send me his travel plans and we’ll decide when to meet up.”
“See! Easy peasy.”
I shrugged, “I guess.”
“Oh my god! That’s why you made such a big deal about this! You like him!” Alex pointed a spatula at me.
“No, I don’t!” I shouted, the heat in my cheeks betrayed me.
“Yes, you do! Your voice does this weird ass high pitch wail when you lie. It just did it. You like him! You like him!” she sang.
“Okay, okay… You’re right I like him. I mean but it’s wrong. I shouldn’t like him. I’m a fangirl nothing more.”
“You’re saying fangirl like it’s a damn swear word. What’s wrong with being a fangirl?”
“It’s a geek thing.”
“So normal people like me wouldn’t understand is what you’re saying?” Alex huffed.
“No! That’s not what I meant!”
She rolled her eyes, “What do you mean?”
“I mean like it makes me a total creep. Like what happened with one of my online friends she liked this TV writer she met at a con. They fooled around a few times then word got out and everyone was calling her a star fucker.”
“I hardly call a TV writer a star,” Alex raised an eyebrow.
I shrugged, “A star in the world of conventions.”
“For such outcasts you nerds always be shittin’ on each other.”
“Yep, everyone is terrible always and forever.”

Excerpt She thought back to the spectacularly shitty day she’d had, and the fact that approximately ten feet away, her boyfriend was currently naked and wrapped around a strange woman like kudzu.
Nope. Don’t care at all.
She frowned, her motions getting a little noisier and more frantic. Finally, she pulled the drawer out, dumping the contents on the counter.
The cheese was gone.
“What the hell?” she hissed, tearing through the rest of the fridge. “Where is it? Where is it?”

Cathy Yardley is an award-winning author of romance, chick lit, and urban fantasy, who has sold over 1.2 million copies of books for publishers like St. Martin’s, Avon, and Harlequin. She writes fun, geeky, and diverse characters who believe that underdogs can make good and sometimes being a little wrong is just right. She likes writing about quirky, crazy adventures, because she’s had plenty of her own: she had her own army in the Society of Creative Anachronism; she’s spent a New Year’s on a 3-day solitary vision quest in the Mojave Desert; she had VIP access to the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Now, she spends her time writing in the wilds of East Seattle, trying to prevent her son from learning the truth of any of said adventures, and riding herd on her two dogs (and one husband.)

Excerpt #1 He cried out, and jerked away from her outstretched hand, falling to the floor, cracking his head on the corner of the island. He went still.
“Well, damn,” she muttered, closing the door.
A puddle had formed where he’d been standing. Much to her relief, a glance down confirmed water, not blood, covered the floor. Barefoot, she stepped gingerly on the well-polished tiles.
Shannon squatted next to him, picking up his wrist and checking for a pulse. His eyes were closed, but his lips were moving. Unable to hear what he was saying, she leaned in, her nose crinkling with distaste as she got closer. Such a heavy costume in the hot weather required far more deodorant. Holding her breath, she put her ear near his mouth.
“I am cursed…”
Straightening, she pursed her lips. The whole situation was bizarre enough to be intriguing. She was curious about this strange man. What was his story? An actual interest in another was a bit foreign to her. A sign, no doubt, she was already becoming a better person.
Okay, but what did she do now? If she called the police, first, they would send someone to her house. It might be the same hot officer who had come a couple of months ago, and after assuring her no bobcat lurked in her backyard, had left a few hours later with more than a grateful “thank you.”
He’d come back once or twice, to play Criminal & Lady Cop, but she’d soon tired of him. Officer CuffMe was the last person she wanted to see when she had an unknown young man passed out in her kitchen. Awkward and uncomfortable at best, of questionable legality at worst.
Second, it would be straight to the psych ward if the police got involved. Probably the right call, but if he were whisked away, she’d never learn his story. Making up her mind, she strode decisively to the liquor cabinet. Bryce had kept an extensive, and expensive bar.
“Brandy, brandy, brandy,” she chanted as she skimmed the labels. She smiled as she wrapped her fingers around the neck of a bottle. She’d read enough romances with bare-chested sea captains on the cover to know when the heroine fainted dead away, the thing to revive her was a bit of eau-de-vie. Singing a Spanish song about brandy she opened her crystal cupboard.
How much?
The lines never said anything like, “He poured four ounces of cognac into an eight ounce snifter and lifted it to her trembling lips.” It couldn’t be much. The unfortunate lass was usually “spluttering and gagging at the first taste of the amber fluid.”
Settling next to the stranger on the floor, she assumed the Lotus position. He had stopped mumbling, but was still quite pale. She set the glass down, then shifted to her best approximation of “cradling his head in her lap,” and wondered how the mechanics of this worked.
She decided to check his pockets before reviving him. If she found his license, the mystery would be solved. His apparel was odd, she wasn’t sure where to look. A pat down revealed a muscular body but no phone or wallet in the expected places. There was a slight bulge over his chest. In the small pouch she pulled out, she found some old coins, and some paper which might be foreign currency, though she didn’t recognize it. There was also a large, intricate antique key. None of this was helpful. She slid the purse back into the concealed pocket.
Putting a hand on the back of his head, Shannon, surprised by the weight, carefully lifted it and angled him, as best she could, into a drinking posture. Then, she brought the glass to his mouth—
a very sensuous mouth—
and poured the tiniest bit of alcohol over his lips. She laughed when he actually spluttered.
His head jerked, and his eyes flew open. Shannon drew back her hand, brandy splashing over the rim. She dropped his head, which unfortunately did not land back in her lap, but thumped heavily to the floor. A grimace of pain crossed his face, and she felt a tinge of guilt.
He fixed her with a baleful stare.
“What do you want of me?” he asked.

Author Rowena Tisdale
About the Author Rowena Tisdale was born and raised in Michigan, sort of all over the state. As an adult, she moved south to Texas, and after living there for a bit, headed east, eventually returning home to her beloved “Mitten State.” She now resides nearby her favorite city, Detroit, with her son and a pair of feline companions.
A reader of romance from an early age, she remains an avid fan of the genre. Over the years, she began to wonder why the feisty heroines she’s always loved haven’t aged with her. Her stories are about older women, because she knows romance is not solely the purview of youth. Whether a single mother in her 30s, a crone who makes goddesses smile, or a spoiled socialite in her 40s, Rowena writes female characters who have the beauty and confidence of experience. She writes across genres, romance, chick-lit, and women’s fiction, but all her novels are love stories.

Excerpt #3 Through the trees and a tangle of vines, I saw Todd with a long tree limb, holding it like a weapon, his hands two feet apart along the branch. His backpack lay on the ground next to him, his T-shirt slick with fresh blood. Behind him lay Thriss, her T-shirt ripped at the shoulder, revealing a wound of three long scratches caked in blood.
Across from them, a jaguar sat crouched, his back legs loaded like springs. It leapt forward, its claws a flash of white. Todd twirled his branch ninja-like, knocking the jaguar backward as it met Todd’s rotating weapon. With another swipe of the branch, Todd tossed the beast backward where it yelped and yowled, twisting its body until it was back on its feet facing me.
“Where’s my knife?” I shouted.
Focused on me, the cat slinked forward, its magnificent spotted coat rippling as its muscles moved beneath it.
“I don’t know,” Todd said. “I dropped it.”
Todd raised his weapon, and I stretched my arms in front of me, my wrists bent and palms facing outward. Staring into the cat’s eyes, squinting to peer deeply, I lifted the edges of my mouth in a soft smile. “It’s okay,” I said. “No one is here to hurt you. Return to the jungle, my friend.”
“It will not listen to you,” Thriss said. “Leave us, Laura. You need to live, so you can save Brell.” She tried to sit up but couldn’t, and slumped back down, placing her hands on her forehead in defeat.
The jaguar exposed its sharp teeth, and I tried to harness my emotions, pulling them into one to make myself unseen again but failed. My hands shook, and my pulse pounded.
The jaguar pounced forward. I fell backward, anticipating its strike, as Todd pushed in front of me, whipping the cat backward with a blow from his branch. With its front paws, the jaguar batted Todd’s weapon from its face and changed directions, turning to Thriss.
“Oh, no you don’t,” Todd shouted as he jumped between them and readied his weapon.
With a downward strike, Todd hit the top of the jaguar’s head. The cat dropped to its front paws, recoiling. Todd swept the branch against the jaguar’s legs, and the cat bounded backward. When Todd lifted the branch to give it another blow, Todd lost his balance, and fell, stumbling toward the beast.
Clamping its teeth onto Todd’s shoulder, the jaguar shook its head, tossing Todd like a stuffed toy.

————————————————————————————–
————————————————————————————–
Excerpt “Bella, Bella,” The gorgeous stranger whispered.
I let out a quiet sigh because I loved the way he called my name. His voice was gentle, like rustling leaves on a breezy night. With a smile, I tipped my head toward him. The moon hid behind a thin cloud, but its light was enough for me to see his chiseled jaw, long nose, and full, sexy lips.
“I love your baby blue eyes, Bella Bell,” he whispered again, lowering his face to mine. “Do you love me?”
“Yes,” I whispered back, my heart thundering in my chest as his hazel eyes looked straight at me. Oh my, he is going to kiss me? Yes … yes … Wait, maybe I have to be bolder. Swallowing, I placed my hands on his muscular hips.
“Bella,” he said, caressing my red hair before his hand stopped on the back of my neck and pulled me closer.
I closed my eyes, waiting for his warm kiss to touch mine, but nothing came. Clenching my jaw, I cupped his face with my hands and coaxed it toward me. Oddly, instead of kissing me, he called out, “Bella! Bella! Bella!” At the same moment, I heard loud sounds, like someone banging on the door. What the …
As much as I wanted to ignore the annoying interruption, I opened my eyes to find that the handsome, chiseled-jaw guy had disappeared, and my hands clenched my pillow a few inches in front of my face. It wasn’t real … but who dared to disturb my dream? I couldn’t moan for too long because the banging became louder, followed by my mom’s irritated voice. “Bella, how many times do I have to wake you up?”
Ugh, couldn’t Mom have woken me up a bit later, at least after I got my kiss? I groaned.
Jumping out of my bed, I opened the door to see my mom glaring at me. She was wearing a blue blazer and pencil skirt, ready for work at a local library as the senior librarian. In her late fifties, she looked great. She had fair skin and no wrinkles, and was a bit heavy at almost five feet tall. Her new hairstyle, short with blonde highlights made her look younger. I could see a flicker of jealousy in my dad’s eyes whenever a man glanced at her in awe. How I wished I had inherited her fair skin and would look like her when I was older. However, my older sister got our mom’s looks and I looked more like our dad. But thanks to the height from my dad, I was three inches taller than my mom.
A whiff of jasmine from her perfume hit my nose like the fresh air of spring. But my mom’s eyes and expression were far from gentle: They were more like a brewing storm.
“Bellalina Elizabeth Bell.” Her voice was loud and high when she called my full name—which she did whenever she was super upset. “You aren’t a kid anymore. You are almost twenty-two, for God’s sake. Why can’t you wake up on your own? I can’t believe that I have to wake you up like this in the morning,” she scoffed, and turned her body toward the kitchen. “Wipe your drool and brush your hair before going out.”
The corner of my mouth was damp as I wiped it with the back of my hand. As I followed my mom down to the kitchen, I tied my shoulder-length hair back with the hairband that was always around my wrist.
“That’s your fault,” I grumbled, and sat on the tall chair at the kitchen island where she’d already put a half gallon of orange juice, a box of cereal, breakfast sausages, six boiled eggs, and a pile of toast, jam, and butter. “I found an effective way to wake up without your help, but you complain about that.”
My mom almost rolled her bright blue eyes at me, but she restrained herself. “You set five different alarm clocks to wake you up every day. Five alarms, Bella. You refused to use your phone alarms and bought five metal twin-bell alarm clocks instead. And those are loud enough to wake up the whole neighborhood.”
“But that’s effective,” I protested, helping myself to a glass of orange juice. “You know I’m not a morning person. Then when I found a way that works, you don’t like it.”
“Those damn alarm clocks can wake up the whole neighborhood,” she said slowly as if I didn’t comprehend her words the first time. I widened my eyes, and my mom sighed.
She opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by Mel’s entrance. Mel was willowy, five-ten with tan skin and freckles on her nose.

Welcome to the blog tour for ACCIDENTALLY PERFECT, the first book in the adult contemporary romantic comedy series, Hideaway Harbor, by Marissa Clarke. See below for the information on the book, buy links, an exclusive excerpt, and a link to add it to your Goodreads TBR.
ACCIDENTALLY PERFECT (Hideaway Harbor Series #1) by Marissa Clarke
Synopsis Workaholic Lillian Mahoney has given everything to her job. The hugely popular lifestyle show she helped create monopolizes her time, energy, creativity, and anything remotely resembling a life. But all it takes is the show’s womanizing, egomaniac star throwing a massive hissy on live TV to utterly implode Lillian’s career in a New York minute.
Now Lillian’s hiding out in the gorgeous and completely unknown seaside village of Blink, Maine. Out of gas. A stolen wallet. A broken heel. And worse, she’s somehow managed to completely piss off the town’s resident hunk, Caleb Wright. She’ll show that hot, grumpy single father exactly what she’s made of.
But Blink isn’t quite what Lillian expects—and neither is Caleb…or his feisty teen daughter she can’t help but love. And while her entire life and career are in shreds, Lillian might just discover what happens when she gives her bad first impression a second chance…
————————————————————————————–
————————————————————————————–
Excerpt Lillian hadn’t woken up with a man in her bed in…ever. In fact, she’d never woken up with a man in her bed. Sleeping over was way too intimate, and she’d never allowed it. Until last night.
Tossing her car keys on the counter, she opened the cupboard and pulled out the coffee beans. Her behavior was completely out of character. She put the beans in the grinder. Everything she’d done had been out of character since she’d gotten here. She flipped the switch, and the grinder rumbled. That kiss they’d shared a few minutes ago when she’d dropped him off at his houseboat was way out of character.
Maybe out of character was really her true character and she didn’t know it until now.
“Oh, for Pete’s sake,” she muttered, pouring the ground coffee into the basket. She liked who she was here. Not the freaked-out bits like when she’d bolted from Amanda’s deck last night, but she liked who she was the rest of the time. More relaxed. More… She thought about last night with Caleb and cleared her throat. Yeah, more that. She liked who she was with him.
She started the coffeemaker and shuffled to the bathroom to get ready to go to Roger’s. The woman in the mirror was a total stranger with wild hair and red cheeks caused by abrasion from his whiskers. And her bathrobe was inside out. Perfect. She’d driven him home like that. She almost laughed. Perfectly put together Lillian Mahoney was a complete inside-out mess, and she didn’t care.
