Synopsis
Everyone has a nemesis.
He became mine.
Sure, he’s charming to the naked eye.
The perfect suit-wearing gentleman, scorching hot, as if he walked straight off a magazine cover.
But anyone with a brain knows better.

I know better.
He’s arrogant, full of himself.
A dream crusher.

So, why can’t I focus when I’m in his presence?
Why does the control I worked so hard for vanish at the sound of his voice?
Living in a storm I’m looking for my rainbow, and he, he is the sun who makes it possible.

Excerpt
I’ve just returned from my morning walk as I enter the community gardens, feeling really good, when I see my nemesis coming from the other side of the green space. He arrives sweaty, wearing sportswear.

For the first time in my life I’ll admit I sincerely thank Roselynn for giving me what I’m wearing right now. Black calf length leggings. My sports bra is electric blue, short and quite low cut, which means I have some great cleavage on show which boosts my confidence.

What? I have a great rack, and I’m not shy to showcase it.

I admit that dressing well gives a certain sexy halo and I plan to take advantage of it.

I see his green eyes looking me up and down, just the way I wanted him to, although he tries to hide it behind that frown and that shield of arrogance that surrounds him.

Without the slightest hint of shame, I return the look. I eat him with my eyes, ogling him with no shame. He wears a white muscle shirt and basketball shorts, completely different than the previous times I’ve seen him.

He looks more accessible, more human. The muscles of his arms are perfectly delineated under his tanned skin, he could trace them with a pencil and the result would be more perfect than Michelangelo’s famous white marble sculpture of David.

What’s worse is this version of him is real, flesh and blood.

His mouth is puckered and I’m not sure if he’s going to talk, make a face or if he wants me to approach him and take him by storm.

Somebody call the doctor and take me to the asylum!

Please.

The temptation is too great, I must restrain myself. In no way do my plans include getting tangled up with Lancelot Hills.

“What are you doing here, Miss Wilkinson?” he says. “Did you find out where I live and decided to follow me?”

Warm up engines! My heart pumps faster, the blood becomes a lava river that rises and rises in temperature.

Control, Ariel. It’s the angry one that loses.

“If you recall, I told you I lived here,” I answer, doing my best to sound casual. “Another thing you decided not to believe.”

“So, it’s just a happy coincidence, is it?”

His sarcasm just makes this easier for me. If he wants to start a verbal war, I’m not going to be intimidated by the first salvo.

“This is no coincidence. When you decided to buy that house, you knew that my home was here. If anyone is doing the harassing, it’s you.”

Lancelot stretches his arm as if to grab mine, but I’m faster. I turn with a swish of my ponytail, making my way to my apartment, leaving him standing there, digesting the information he just received.

I won the first round.

How fucking good it feels to have the last word!

Synopsis
Piper

Most people don’t think about the day they’ll die. They coast through life, blissfully unaware of how their time is ticking away. I wasn’t like most people. I welcomed death, wanted her to take me away from the prison I called life, but she refused. I tried twice only to survive. And then, when I thought I had nothing left it came.

A reason to live.

Rex was a small, unexpected ray of light my world of darkness that blossomed into a beam of sunshine. I thought, maybe this was why Death didn’t take me. Maybe she knew that if I held on a little longer things would turn around. But the third time Death came to my door wasn’t by choice. Someone else brought her, and I fear this time she might take me.

Rex

Being the son of a country star sucks. My parents are never around, I move every year or so, and I have no real friends. Everyone around me has an agenda. Everyone except Piper Lovelace. I can’t get that girl to notice me. Trust me I’ve tried.
Thankfully, fate stepped in and gave me the break I needed. I’ve got her attention, now I need her to give me a chance.

Theo Kershaw is the luckiest guy alive.

Roaring back from a life-threatening injury, he has the world at his skates as defenseman for his new team, the Chicago Rebels. Everyone adores his big personality, his on-ice talent, and his killer smile. Everyone but his prickly neighbor – or so he thinks. One chilly Christmas Eve, Theo will learn that maybe the girl next door isn’t such a hater after all …

Elle Butler is the most embarrassing person on the planet.

How else can the ex-military-now-bartender explain her crush on the hot jock who lives across the hall? True, he has gorgeous green eyes and perfect cheekbones, but the filter between his brain and too-sexy mouth is permanently malfunctioning. Yet she can’t stop checking out his Instagram antics or sneaking looks at him when he’s in her bar. So. Mortifying. Running from a past filled with damning secrets, Elle’s determined that this guilty pleasure remains buried in her deepest fantasies.

Because she couldn’t possibly indulge with the Theo Kershaw or make a mistake that draws attention to her under-the-radar life. And she especially couldn’t be a mom to a pro-athlete’s baby … could she?

Excerpt #2
There he stood in a Santa hat and snug boxer briefs with … were those dinosaurs?

She blinked, covered her mouth, and giggled. “Nice underwear.”

“Gift from my gran. Now, you.”

That wasn’t how this was going to work. She pushed off from the counter, where she’d had to lean to catch her breath and save herself from melted-knee  syndrome, and moved in close. Her hand strayed to his chest, brushed across one copper-pennied nipple.

“I’m not an exhibitionist like you.”

He shrugged. “I’m not ashamed. You got it, you flaunt it.”

Easy for him to say. She was no prude, but she wasn’t able to compete with the level she saw before her. Nothing sculpted or honed about her body. She’d kept fit in the military but hadn’t been maintaining her regimen as diligently since leaving. Stripping in the unflattering light of Levi Hunt’s kitchen was not on the menu.

He seemed to sense her confusion. He placed a hand on her hip, the other at the nape of her neck.

“You okay?”

“I’m not sure.”

“We don’t have to do this.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to. It would be wonderful, she was sure of it. A clearing of the pipes. A beautiful male body used as the gods intended. But that was it: she would be using him—and she’d been making a concerted effort not to do that to people. She came from a long line of takers, and while she had no doubt this would be a mutual exchange of pleasure and bodily fluids, she still felt weird about it.

“You’d be okay with me changing my mind?”

“This is your show, Ellie.” But even as he said it, his cock twitched. She felt its sad poke against her stomach. Not a happy penis.

She looked down at it. Covered by the head of a cartoon T-rex, it was still impressive.

“Sorry,” she whispered.

Theo laughed, the sound slightly pained. “Yeah, you should definitely apologize to my dick. The big guy’s never gonna forgive us for getting him all worked up.” He kissed her softly, which was much more than she deserved for being such a tease. “Not a big deal. You want me out of your hair?” He tangled a finger in one of her errant curls.

“Don’t you have to head home?”

“Not for a while yet. But if you want to be alone, I can make that happen.” He waggled both eyebrows. “Or I could make Christmas lunch.”

“We just had breakfast.”

He waved it off. “Merely the appetizer.”

“You mean you’d actually cook for me after I led you to the brink—”

“Hardly the brink.”

“And made your dick cranky.”

With his hands still cradling her hips, he held her back a few inches and peered down at his groin. “You cranky, bud?”

“Oh, God.” That was Elle, not Theo’s penis, speaking.

He continued conversing with his chatty dick. “A little? Don’t worry, we’ll have some alone time later. A few happy, holiday tugs and you won’t even remember the mean lady who looked a hung-like-a-gift horse in the mouth.” All smiles, he met her astonished gaze once more. “We’re good.”

Were they?  Was she crazy to turn down an offer like this? Her ovaries certainly thought so.

She stepped back, struck by the notion that leaving his arms was a mistake. That she might like to stay wrapped in them for a while longer and that she’d missed out on not just great sex, but self-care with a wonderful guy.

He’s not for you, Eloise.

Synopsis
Not even Nashville’s summer heat can match the sizzle of first love.

Nick Field’s motto is “live free.” The huge promotion at work is great, but producing a pop star’s debut album isn’t going to change his life or anything. There’s always room for unwinding and having fun.

Mel Thomas works 24/7 as the media manager to America’s newest heartthrob. Building his image and writing her career make-or-break article are the stories of the summer. There’s no room to go off script.

Ten years ago, Nick and Mel were high school sweethearts. Reunited by chance, what should’ve been ancient history reignites into a passionate present. Too bad there’s no future in it.

Excerpt #2
Melody

“Go into the studio; mics are on.”

I stashed the phone. “What makes you think I want to sing?”

“Just a guess.”

Nick’s sly smile ended my resistance quick. I heaved a dramatic sigh, stomped across the room to lean over him and type, and then yanked open the studio door. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

He laughed. “Yeah, you can. Go for it.”

Magical energy struck me again as soon as I walked in. The walls practically hummed with the music they’d soaked in over the years. Memories and unlimited potential crackled in the air like ions. With few inhales, the magic was in my bloodstream.

I was no musical prodigy, though, just a girl whose mother taught choir when she was a kid. Instead of tapping talent and creativity, Studio A turned my brain waves from an organized map into doodles and swirls.

I released a shaky breath and walked to the front microphone. Music filled the room. The opening line of “Son of a Preacher Man” trembled out of my mouth, but my voice grew stronger the more I sang. Hands on my head, I swished my hips to the beat and almost kissed the microphone as I belted the lyrics to the very last note.

The song faded away. In the silence, I opened my eyes and dared to look through the window. Nick was reclining in his chair, but he leaned forward and spoke into the com. “That was perfect. What next, Melody?”

I stood behind the mic and watched him watch me. I thought about how my stomach jumped every day when he appeared in the lounge, and how I pretended not to care.

I thought of his kiss.

To be fair, I’d thought about it nonstop since it happened, but when Nick tilted his head at my silent reverie, I really thought about it. Then, I stopped thinking.

“Um, I want…” I whispered with a thick swallow. My hand floated to my skirt, dragging the hem up my thigh with a tickling touch.

Am I really doing this?

About the Author
Skye spent a lot of her adolescence dreaming about living in a hip, urban town full of adventures that occurred outside of the local mall. (Hers was Rivergate, in case you know Nashville well!) Now that she’s been living away from Nashville for years, the once sleepy Southern city has become just that place, and she returns to visit whenever she can. Her seven-novel-and-growing Anti-Belle series is centered in her hometown, partly as a homage and partly because these days Nashville is too hip to ignore.

In the real world, Skye is an English teacher in Brooklyn, New York, and has lived there long enough to consider herself a true New Yorker—even though she proudly cheers for the Tennessee Vols (her alma mater) and loves being a GRITS (Girl Raised in the South).

Skye’s philosophy is to live with your heart and mind open. She believes in the beauty of this world and seeks adventure and joy as a daily practice. If “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans,” as John Lennon said, then she’d rather leave the schedule open and let life happen. .

Synopsis
Derrik Tyler has it all. He’s a world-famous rock star with a legion of adoring fans and has obtained teen idol status. He even has a Hollywood starlet who wants nothing more than to be the only girl in his life. It’s a publicity stunt only his band knows about, but that’s not detracting her from trying to turn their fake relationship into a real one. Yep, he has it all. Except the girl who stole his heart before his life turned into a rock n’ roll rollercoaster.

Zoey Jacobs has been friends with Derrik and the Kings of Karmichael, since before they became the hottest band in the world. She even dated Derrik before he was known as the King of Hearts—the biggest teen heartthrob in the last decade. But that’s all in the past. She’s just a few short months away from graduating high school and moving on to college.

When spring break rolls around, Derrik invites Zoey along for the last leg of the band’s tour. What should be an amazing road trip turns into Derrik’s personal mission to win back his first love. But can two people from different worlds reignite a past relationship, or is a teen icon and a future college freshman too big of a gap to cross?

King of Hearts is the first book in the Kings of Karmichael series. The series is interconnected, but each book can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt
~~ ZOEY ~~

The crowd is insane. I knew it would be.

Johnny’s house band plays out the rest of the show, and the lights start to dim as the cameras turn off. Becca and I get up from our seats, with Landon standing up next to us.

“Can you believe this reaction?” Becca asks, laughing.

“Of course I can,” I reply with a giggle of my own. “Becca, you saw them last year just before the tour kicked off. They had that signing at MaxMart where the line circled around the store and down the street.”

“Right.” She nods. “I can’t believe they stayed there four hours past the time they were scheduled.”

“That’s why the King’s Court loves them.” I shrug, laughing again.

“I don’t get it,” Landon remarks. “It’s just Derrik and EJ. I went to school with them since sixth grade.”

I pat his shoulder, staring at him like he’s a lost puppy. “Oh, Landon. It’s okay. You don’t have to be intimidated by the mass of hysterical girls screaming.”

He rolls his eyes with a smirk and is just about to reply when, on cue, the girls start shrieking again. I look and find Maddox and EJ making their way over to sign autographs. Jade and Derrik wait near the curtain that blocks off the backstage area, and Derrik motions over to me.

“Come on.” I tap Becca’s arm, and we head down the stairs. Landon stays at the edge of the aisle before turning around to head up the stairs. “You’re not coming?”

“Naw.” He shakes his head. “I’ll meet you guys in the gift shop. I told my mom I’d get her something.”

“Okay.” I offer him a smile and then head down to the barrier between the stage area and the audience.

“Sorry, you can’t go this way,” a large security guard says, stopping us. He’s at least a foot taller than us, stout, and his brow nearly forms a unibrow, which seems to be stuck in place in a scowl.

“Oh, I know him.” I point to Derrik, who’s now looking at something behind the curtain.

The guard glances back and then stares at me like I’m crazy. “Yeah, sure you do.”

“Derrik,” I call out.

Turning around, he sees the scene and smirks. As he starts jogging over to us, more of the girls off to the side begin shrieking louder than before, and bum-rush Becca and me.

“Hey, it’s cool,” he tells the security guard. “They’re with me.” The guard does a double take, then nods and lets us in. “Head backstage, behind the curtain,” Derrik tells us. “I’ll be right there.” We both nod and head off in the direction he points. I glance back and see all of the fans jumping up and down, and Derrik begins laying on his charm. “Hey, girls. Enjoy the show?”

I can’t comprehend one answer they give as they all scream on top of the other, and Becca starts laughing. Walking back behind the curtain, we find Jade talking on her phone. When she sees us, she waves with a smile.

“No, I seriously don’t want to talk about that again,” she says sternly into her phone. “Yes, I know, but the Kings are where my priority is. Yeah. Thanks.” She hangs up her phone, letting out a sigh and shaking her head. “Sorry.”

I lean over to her and give her a hug. She’s dressed in some of her usual skinny jeans that are ripped, and a purple tank top. “You look amazing, Jade. Everything okay?”

“Thanks,” she replies, giving Becca a hug next. “Yeah, it’s good. It’s just Bret.” She rolls her eyes when she says her boyfriend’s name. “He’s always asking about meeting with new management and stuff.”

Becca rolls her eyes. “Is he still trying to get you to hook his band up with a deal? Tell him to suck on one.”

The insult breaks the tension that Jade seems to be carrying, and we all start laughing. “Maybe I will,” she answers. “How are you guys? I can’t believe I haven’t seen you since before Christmas last year. Now it’s spring break.” She shakes her head in disbelief. “Pretty soon, no more high school.”

“Yeah.” I smile. “You don’t miss it?”

“A little.” She shrugs. “But I wouldn’t give this up for anything. It’s amazing.”

“Hey, sorry,” Derrik says, rushing over and giving me a hug. “Gotta work the crowd, you know?”

“I’m sure Maddox is working it enough for all of us,” Jade jokes. “Peter wants us in the limo in twenty, so I’m gonna head over there.”

“Okay, cool.” Derrik nods. Becca and I give her a hug again, and she heads toward the exit. “So, how’d you guys like the show?”

“It was okay.” I shrug with a smile. “You were a little pitchy.”

Becca laughs. “Yeah. Landon isn’t a fan either.”

“Landon!” Derrik exclaims, raising a finger. “I wasn’t sure who that was, and now that you say the name, I remember. I think I had algebra with him freshman year. You gave him the extra ticket?” he asks me, and I nod. “I would’ve thought your mom would’ve brought you guys.”

“We were talking at lunch, and when I told him, he offered,” I explain. “He got a brand-new Mercedes from his parents as an early graduation-slash-birthday gift.”

“Oh.” A line from overs his brow. “Where is he?”

“Like I said, not a fan.” Becca giggles, and I do my best to hold back one of my own, watching the slight jealous scowl flash over Derrik’s face.

We’ve known each other since middle school. Sophomore year we started dating. Then, when he and the others began home studies before they all decided to take a GED and just focus on the band, we were still going out junior year. When they had to leave last year to start on this world tour they’ve embarked on, I knew it couldn’t keep going. Long-distance relationships never work, especially when someone is a world-famous rock star. Still, we’ve stayed in contact through online and texting. And I do still care about him.

Becca’s face drops. Following her line of vision, as she stares over Derrik’s shoulder, I see Danica Parker walking toward us.

Johnny wasn’t lying during the show that she’s the hottest star on the planet right now. She transformed a silly YouTube sketch comedy show she started in middle school into a nationally televised and streaming series. The first season of her show just ended, and the season finale scored the highest ratings of any primetime show in the last five years. People love her. And it doesn’t hurt that even at seventeen, she comes across as a mature and savvy Hollywood powerhouse. She knows the game and plays it to a T, able to get almost anything she wants. Which includes Derrik.

“Wow, I didn’t know she was keeping you on a leash,” I tease him, whispering over to him.

“Very funny,” he retorts.

“Derrik.” She wraps her arm around his, not even acknowledging Becca and me. “Come on, finish signing autographs, and let’s go. My publicist wants us to make an appearance across town at a super-hot restaurant.”

“Danica, these aren’t fans,” Derrik reprimands her, pulling his arm free from hers.

I glance over at Becca, who scowls at Danica. She looks insulted and jealous, both of which she’s told me—on multiple occasions—I should be feeling with all the rumors and pictures floating around about them.

It’s not like I’ve never been jealous over Danica. Not of her fame, but of this relationship that she wants with Derrik, and she seems so driven to acquire.

I try to push any and all thoughts of jealousy away, though. Derrik and I went out, but he’s not mine anymore. I called it off for a good reason. And now, the Kings are the hottest rock band on the planet. I’m a high school senior, and I’ll be starting college in the fall. We live in completely different worlds. But it’s nice to see him from time to time and see that he hasn’t changed.

“Oh.” Danica gives us both a blank stare. “Awesome, I’d literally kill for a Diet Coke right now.”

“Really?” Becca retorts, smirking. “Literally? You’d literally kill for a Diet Coke?”

“What?” Danica stares at Becca with an unknowing gaze, and I’m doing my best to hold back a laugh. Glancing at Derrik, I discover he’s doing the same.

“They don’t work here either,” Derrik says. “They’re my friends. I invited them.”

Taking us in again, she stares back at Derrik with a look that tells me she isn’t sure if he’s joking or not. Not in a ha-ha kind of way, but with an expression that says that both of them are above the small people now.

“Whatever. Let’s go already.”

“I’m supposed to head back to the hotel.”

“No, I had Debbie talk to Peter. Your band will go back, but we’re going to the restaurant. Hurry up, pumpkin.”

She smiles widely, tapping her finger to Derrik’s nose. Without another glance at Becca or me, she flicks her platinum blonde hair over her shoulder. Spinning on her pink and silver Prada heels—which I hate to admit, are really cute—she walks back down the hallway.

“Sorry about that.”

“Seriously, Derrik?” Becca glares at him. “That girl is a total bitch. Why are you putting on this show?”

I’ve told Becca all about the setup Derrik has with Little Miss Thing. It’s supposed to not only be great for her show but gain even more exposure for the Kings. Like they need any more; they’ve been on multiple magazine covers, daytime talk shows, nighttime talk shows, and YouTube channels with millions of subscribers. The Kings are everywhere. So, I jab a finger in his ribs, giggling.

“Because she’s hot and you’re hot, and two insanely hot teen idols are unstoppable. Right?”

“Stop.” He pushes my hand away, laughing. “I’m not a teen idol.”

“Oh, sorry. Teen icon. That is the name of your album, isn’t it?”

Becca starts laughing, and Derrik continues to blush. “That was all Peter’s idea, you know that. I was happy with calling it Album Number Two. So next week is spring break, right?”

“Yasss!” Becca waves her hands high. “We are going to my aunt’s in Huntington Beach. It’s going to be ah-may-zing!”

Derrik laughs. “I bet. I had a proposition for you, though, Z.”

“Not even twenty-one, and you’re propositioning girls already? Tsk-tsk.” Becca starts giggling, earning one from myself.

“Huntington Beach is amazing, but how about coming out on tour with us for these last few shows?” he asks.

His words stop both of us in our tracks. “Are you serious?”

He nods. “I talked with the rest of the band, and they’re totally cool with it. We all know you, and Jade is hoping you’ll say yes so she’s not the only girl around most of the time.”

He laughs, but I’m still stunned. “I mean … that would be fantastic, but I don’t know if my mom would—”

“I already asked. She said yes.”

“What? Seriously?”

“Yeah. Come on, you know your mom loves me.” He casually throws his arm around my shoulders.

I fight off the feelings I always have to battle with when I’m next to him. Glancing back at Becca, my wide eyes find hers, as she jumps up and down in excitement. “Would you hate me if I ditched the beach next week?”

“Girl!” She pushes my shoulder. “I’d hate you if you don’t go on tour with them. You better send me tons of pics.”

“So?” He leans a little closer.

I see those ocean blue eyes that make every girl in the crowd melt. They’ve always had the same effect on me. And no doubt being around the band would be amazing. Traveling to their last tour stops, hanging out with Jade, and getting to be around Derrik. But I called us off for a reason. Being around him might bring up all those old feelings I still remember. Plus, there are other things in play that he doesn’t know about. Things I probably should’ve told him a long time ago.

“Are you going to make me beg, Z?” He removes his arm from my shoulders, only to stand in front of me. Lowering a few inches, he comes down to my height, so we’re at even eye level. “I haven’t had to beg you since we went to homecoming sophomore year.”

He grins, and it makes me giggle, breaking up my debating thoughts. Finally, finding some semblance of coherency, I return his grin. “On one condition.”

“Anything.”

“You only get me Diet Cokes. Pumpkin.”

“Very funny.”

Excerpt
Margo watched Matt’s chest rise and fall as he lay sleeping on the living room floor of their just-rented home, the glow of her phone screen lighting up the dark room. Her eyes traveled from Matt up to the vaulted ceiling and its white beams. This house was their first move together as a couple. Her phone blinked 3:30 a.m. and her mind wandered back over their evening.

“You two look mighty sharp. Big night out?”

Margo turned to find the eyes of their Uber driver looking at her in the rearview mirror.

“We had a party to go to,” she answered kindly.

“Musta been fancy.” The driver turned, nodding toward her outfit.

She smiled, as she smoothed the front of her vintage Halston jumpsuit. She looked back out the window of the car, watching Matt through the glass of the pizza shop, his head down looking at his phone screen. Her inbox dinged. They put ham on our pizzas. What are we, serial killers? Margo smiled, then typed, Do only serial killers get ham on their pizza? Cuz I kinda don’t hate it. Three dots appeared on her screen. Then, What kind of monster are you?!  She laughed out loud.

“Your boyfriend seems like a wise guy.”

Margo’s gaze returned to the rearview mirror and the crinkled corners of the driver’s eyes. “He’s okay,” she offered, warmly.

“You two just got a place, huh?” he peeled off a Mento and offered her one as he popped his in his mouth.

She shook her head no in polite decline, turning to see Matt exit the shop, pizzas in hand.

“Well, I’d tell you good luck,” the driver said, “but you don’t need it. I can always tell the ones who are gonna make it.”

“Are you watching me sleep?” Matt whispered in the dark, startling her back to their empty living room.

“No,” she denied, blushing at the recall of the driver’s words. “But, even if I were, isn’t it considered sweet for a girlfriend to watch her boyfriend sleeping?”

Matt rolled toward her. He lay on the chevron wood floors, four feet away. She was atop a blow-up mattress, the only piece of furniture in the empty room. “I guess it could be considered sweet, but seeing as we’re actually strangers, I think it reads a bit like the start of my Lester Holt, ‘And Then He Vanished,’ Dateline episode.”

Margo laughed out loud as she kicked at the scarf she was using as a makeshift blanket.

“Seeing as I’ve only known you a day and a half, Lester’s not exactly on speed dial just yet.”

“Well, that’s good,” Matt yawned. “I’m actually more a Katie Couric man, anyway.”

Synopsis
She has everything money can buy, but her bodyguard is all she wants—and together they’re exactly what each other needs in this heart-racing romance by Melissa Foster, the New York Times bestselling author of Call Her Mine.

Actress Remi Divine is sick of bodyguards, sick of stalkers, and sick of feeling like she is always under a microscope. But this movie star isn’t helpless by any means. She’s got a rebellious streak, and she knows how to use it. First order of business: getting rid of the overbearing bodyguards who are sticking to her like glue.

Mason Swift has made protecting others his life, and when Remi ditches his two best men, he takes over and gives it everything he has. Having grown up in the foster-care system, and as a former special operative, he knows all the tricks. Nothing gets by him, especially not gorgeous, sneaky Remi.

He thinks she’s a diva. She thinks he’s arrogant. But when sparks turn to flames and their walls come down, their true hearts are revealed, and their connection is unstoppable. And when tragedy strikes, Remi realizes that being protected isn’t the worst thing in the world—but losing Mason just might be.

“You have to eat, Remi. You can’t exist on an apple when you work as hard as you do.”

She looked at his large hands gripping the steering wheel, deep-set eyes focused on the road, biceps twitching, and her insides got hot. Now, those were sparks.

He glanced over, and his lips quirked into an almost smile. She really liked his almost smile. It was mysterious, like him, and it was real, unlike most of the smiles she saw on people’s faces.

“What’ll it be?” he asked. “Burger? Eggs? We can hit the grocery store.”

“Didn’t anyone ever teach you that when a woman says no, it means no?”

That earned a rough laugh that skated beneath her skin. “Princess, the word no hasn’t come out of your mouth, and you have to eat something. You expended thousands of calories today, and you can’t weigh more than a buck ten soaking wet. You’ll wear yourself out at this rate.”

She stared out the window and said, “Spoken like a man who has probably never been told what to do.”

“I spent years in the military. If you think I haven’t been told what to do, you’re sorely mistaken. How about a protein shake? You don’t even have to chew.”

“No, thank you.”

He stopped at a red light on the corner and pointed to Chapter One, Aurelia’s bookstore. “Doesn’t your friend own that place? She sells baked goods from your other friend’s bakery. How about a cupcake?”

Shocked, she said, “How do you know about Aurelia and Willow?”

He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and said, “It’s my job to know who you’re in contact with. I’d rather have you put some meat in that smart mouth of yours instead of sugar, but at this point I’d be thrilled to get anything inside you.”

Her mind went straight to the gutter, and the way his eyes locked on the road and he white-knuckled the steering wheel, she had a feeling he was thinking the same thing.

“I’m fine,” she said quickly. “Let’s just get home, please.” Before the images your comment conjured get me even hotter.

When they got home, Mason checked the house while Remi waited by the door, which seemed ridiculous to her, but whatever . . .

She needed to get him out of her head, and the farther away he was, the better. The man sucked the oxygen right out of her lungs when they were alone.

“All clear,” he said as he came down the stairs. “Why don’t I whip up one of those boxed meals you’ve got in the fridge?”

The image of Mason wearing nothing but a pair of leather briefs and carrying a whip slammed into her. Holy crap. She was definitely losing her mind.

She pushed past him, heading up the stairs, and said, “I don’t need you to whip anything, thank you. I’m going to change and relax in the hot tub. You can eat my box if you want.” It wasn’t until she reached the landing that she realized what she’d said. Mortified, she spun around and said, “The meal! I meant the boxed meal!”

He chuckled.

Damn him for having that effect on her!

Synopsis
Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
Because Daddy set out traps to catch those f^@kers
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that grenades would soon be in there
The children were nestled, all snug in their beds
While visions of weapons danced in their heads
And Mama in her nightie and I in my boxers
Had just settled down for a fun night together
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to grab my Sig Sauer
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Covered my junk and threw Mama her pants…

About the Author
I’m a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, “No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book.” I didn’t think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn’t already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven’t been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Between reading, writing, and taking care of three small kids, my days are quite full.

Available in print for the first time, and with exclusive bonus content only found in the print version! Fall in love with Sally and Becks all over again.

Adorkable (ah-dor-kuh-bul): Descriptive term meaning to be equal parts dorky and adorable. For reference, see Sally Spitz.

Seventeen-year-old Sally Spitz is done with dating. Or at least, she’s done with the horrible blind dates/hookups/sneak attacks her matchmaking bestie, Hooker, sets her up on. There’s only so much one geek girl and Gryffindor supporter can take.

Her solution: She needs a fake boyfriend. And fast.

Enter Becks, soccer phenom, all-around hottie, and Sally’s best friend practically since birth. When Sally asks Becks to be her F.B.F. (fake boyfriend), Becks is only too happy to be used. The problem: Sally’s been in love with Becks all her life―and he’s completely clueless.

This book features two best friends, one special-edition Yoda Snuggie, countless beneath-the-ear kisses, and begs the question:

Who wants a real boyfriend when faking it is so much more fun?

Excerpt #3
Gently, Becks placed his hand on top of mine.

I didn’t jump this time, but my body was like a live wire, lit up from the inside.

“Jeez,” Becks said quietly, running the tips of his fingers up and down my arm.  “You’re shaking, Sal.”

Mortified, I looked down to see that he was right.  Every time his fingers passed a certain place on my skin, gooseflesh appeared first followed by a tiny quiver.

“Sorry,” I said, completely at a loss.

As much as I tried, I couldn’t command myself to not react. Why was my body betraying me like this?  Didn’t it realize that if Becks saw how much I loved his touch, how much it moved me, he would know?

Just as I feared it might already be too late, he said, “This isn’t working.”  Removing his hand, he sat back, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I freak you out so much, but we need to try something different.”

I was a lot of things, but “freaked out” was definitely not one of them.

“Here,” he said, moving a bit closer.  “You do me.”

“You’re not seriously going to listen to them,” I said flatly.

“What else can I do?”

“Becks, beware the dark side.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It’s a Yoda-ism,” I said, “and you know exactly what it means.  Becks, have you no shame?”

“Nope,” he said, lifting the jersey over his head in one swift pull, causing a mixture of applause, screaming and appreciative sighs.

I shook my head, struggling to keep my eyes north of his jaw line.

“What can I say, Sal?” he said, backing away.  “It’s like that line from that show Oklahoma.  I’m just a guy who can’t say no.”  Flicking his jersey at one of the cheerleaders, he hot footed it out to center field, grinning all the while.  He gave a frowning Coach Crenshaw a swat to the backside, and then the team got down to business.

I wrote down Becks’s quote, making a side note to include it in my next article, while the girl who’d caught Becks’s jersey gripped the shirt to her heart and pretended to faint.

At least, I hoped it was pretend.

Synopsis
Fate threw him a wicked twist. Or maybe it was the magic of Christmas. Maybe it was just going home.

T’was the night before Christmas—three actually—and there was nothing quiet about the club Declan found himself at. The superhero-themed masquerade party was the one thing he’d been looking forward to when he’d been summoned home for Christmas. He usually kept a safe distance between him and his family. It was easier to hide his secret that way. Being gay wasn’t the only thing he was hiding. The truth was far worse—he’d fallen for his stepbrother, Ollie.

The night of the masquerade party saw his world was flipped upside down by an enticing stranger. He’d never be the same again. The two men came together when they both needed it most. What followed was one seriously sexy pre-Christmas set of fireworks exploding between them. But he was soon alone again, sitting in an apartment full of beautiful, rich people who only wanted to know him because of his stepfather’s bank account. Declan’s love of the holidays was wavering, and he was regretting his trip home.

Then Ollie walked in, and everything became a whole lot more complicated. Declan was torn—unable to get the sexy, nameless stranger out of his head and Ollie out of his heart.

Going home for Christmas would either break him or… well, Declan didn’t have that quite figured out.

Home For Christmas is a stand-alone, Christmas gay romance by Ann Grech featuring a steamy one night stand, a closeted hero, wrestling stepbrothers, numerous references to Woody and Buzz, singing in the shower and a feel good second chance romance.

I glanced at the text from Dad. Come home for Christmas. A second one lit up my screen. Please. I shook my head and dropped my cell on the bed next to me. I’d deal with it later. The final draft of my honors dissertation lay spread around me in a disorganized mess, and I was frazzled. I was on the cusp of handing it in; this read-through was supposed to be a final one to check for flow before it went to the editor to pick up any spelling and grammar errors. Then, all things going well, I’d be submitting it to my professor after I returned from my sojourn to Turks and Caicos for my Christmas and New Year break. I was so close I could taste it. Except that this draft was a mess. I had to read every sentence, every paragraph, every chapter again to make sure I’d captured all the revisions. I was exhausted, but I needed it done.

I wanted warm sun, sparkling clear blue ocean, hammocks, and cocktails. Music and a good book. Lazy days and nights filled with parties. Not cold wind, rain on a good day or sleet on a cold one, and big wig corporates. I dealt with them every time I returned home to pack in a few weeks of work experience during breaks, so I’d prefer to stay away from them on the one holiday I took a year.

I was just about to pick up my cell and rain on Dad’s parade when he called. The screen lighting up and the buzzing of my muted phone made me jump like a startled jackrabbit, and I scrambled to pick it up. Laughing at my frazzled self, I swiped to answer and greeted my dad.

“Son, how are you?” he asked warmly.

“Good. Tired. Needing a break. Take your pick.” I yawned. It was late, and I’d been at it for hours.

“I thought you were almost finished.”

“I was, but I’ve screwed up something in the document and lost hours of work.” I sighed and scrubbed my hand over my face. I needed another coffee, but if I had more now, I wouldn’t sleep for a week.

“Will you get it done before you fly out?”

I huffed out a laugh. “To where? A beautiful tropical island where I can defrost and relax, or home to weather that’s as cold as New York?”

“We’d love you to come home,” he replied.

“So, this has nothing to do with you trying to make up for last Christmas?” My skepticism was obvious.

Dad hesitated. I had him pegged all right. “Can you blame me?” he asked. I couldn’t. He’d been called into work and had been stuck there most of Christmas Eve and late into the day on Christmas Day. He’d managed to save the few hundred jobs riding on his own, but it had come at the expense of Christmas Day with his wife. At lease Dad was going to make sure it didn’t happen again this year. Even if it did mean that he needed me there rather than where I really wanted to be.

“No, I can’t blame you.” I sighed again. “But I need this break, Dad.”

“Your brother’s coming.” I groaned. If he was going, I couldn’t say no…

Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. It took a second to register that it might be a bad idea.

She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book–whether it’s reading or writing one. “Kirby, when do you move in?” Maureen Melon shrieked as Margo walked into the kitchen. “Did you hear that M&M? Kirby bought a house!”

“Wow,” Margo said flatly, greeting the news with the same enthusiasm as dental work.

“I close next week. And then after that,” Kirby trailed off, lost in a haze of euphoria before exclaiming, “I’m gonna be a homeowner at 24! Can you believe it?”

They both looked at Margo with stars in their eyes.

“I can’t,” Margo echoed dryly…

Margo had moved home as a stopover after a failed stint at Popler, the holy grail of fashion magazines, but that was four years ago now. She’d nabbed the position her senior year and crammed her entire world into two checkable duffel bags and flung herself across the country to a rundown studio in Harlem. In real life it was 246 square feet of worn walls and sloping floors.

Perfection, Margo had thought the moment the door swung open. Her first day, she arrived ready to run the place. But, after eight weeks of only filing, running errands, and fetching coffee, she surmised she wasn’t being used to her fullest.  So, with an abundance of entitlement that she mistook for confidence, Margo marched into her boss’s office. Lennox Stanton sat before her picking apart a vegan burrito like a vulture clad in Balmain as Margo launched in: “People say you have to start at the bottom, but I don’t think that applies to everyone. Some of us are meant to start several rungs up. I’m happy to get your coffee every once and a while, Lennox, but I’d like to be given more challenging duties if I’m expected to remain in my position.”

Five minutes later, Margo was on the corner of 45th and Times Square holding the contents of her desk, three packages of Little Debbie snacks, and a fake cactus. Lennox Stanton had fired her.

Her parents had encouraged her to bootstrap a way to stay in New York. “I’m not just taking any job, Dad,” she’d protested. “I wanna write, not wait tables.” The next day, she bought a ticket home. “It’s fine. I’ll take this time to write,” she informed her parents as she hefted her suitcase off the baggage carousel. Their worried glances said they weren’t so sure.

Kirby, on the other hand, skyrocketed. While waiting in line for coffee in between her classes Kirby had met a coding student, David, from the technical school across the street. Together, the pair formed a resale fashion start-up, Blush & Bashful, selling Kirby’s vintage finds. Surprising even to them, it took off and took them with it. Kirby went from a girl with no professional drive to driving a Mercedes in two short years. As far as Margo was concerned, that ride, metaphorically and literally, was supposed to have been hers.

“Earth to Margo!”

Margo shook free from the memory to find her mom passing Champagne flutes through the window that connected their dining room and kitchen and robotically grabbed them. She lapped the table placing one flute at each seat.

“What do you mean a channel?” she asked as Kirby joined her relay team, falling in rank behind her, placing napkins at each stop.

“I mean a channel, AN ACTUAL CHANNEL. I’ve already started shooting videos for the site, and we’re changing my title to editor in chief and style director. Can you believe…”

Margo halted. Kirby smashed into her back. “What?” Margo asked indignantly. “You’re an editor in chief just because some coding school dropout gives you the title?”

Kirby’s face crumpled.

“MARGO!” her mother reprimanded. Silence stood like soup in the room.

She knew she should stop but didn’t. Couldn’t. “I’m the writer. Not you. What have you ever done? I mean, really, Kirby? Seriously?” she asked, each word punctuated with accusation.

“You made eyes with a guy in a coffee shop who wanted in your pants and somehow you parlay that into a self-professed editor in chief title. You’re such a fake. And….”

“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Hank Melon boomed from the doorway. “Margo Valentine Melon, you will not speak to your sister that way. What has happened to you? You’re the one who quit. Not me.

Not your mother. Certainly not Kirby. You. You gave up. You threw in the towel. And yet here you are trying to hang all of us with it. I don’t think so, young lady.”

His words stung, mostly because they were true. Margo wanted to yell at them, like a child who drops their ice cream and then shouts at everyone standing around for what was their own mistake. She bit her lip to keep it from trembling, placed the remaining flutes on the table, and rushed out.

“Margo?” Kirby started behind her.

“Give her a minute.” Maureen grabbed Kirby’s arm.

Carved into the side of the hill halfway down Beverly Crest sat Coyote Café, a small sliver of an establishment that was easily missed thanks to its hidden façade, so much so that Margo had missed it. She had to go down the hill and turn around, driving back up to locate it. She waited for one of the only spots in the lot that her beat-up Bronco would fit into. When she walked into the café, she stepped in a puddle of water. Damn it! Chelsea’s McQueens!

“What can I get you?” he asked.

Margo felt herself relax, the anger shaking free from what had just happened up the hill. “Ain’t that the truth,” she said, smiling at his positivity.

Margo rattled off her order and paid at the register.

“Take a seat.” He pointed to the booth. “I’ll get that right out to you. Want any pastries?” he asked, as he began to grind coffee beans, gesturing with his head toward the counter brimming with cake stands. “We make ’em homemade daily. I get up at 4 a.m. just to do it.”

Margo looked at the counter and spied the pile of at least ten croissants under an elegant glass cloche. She thought of Mix’s request for the flaky and buttery baked goods. “Nope, all set,” she said as she took a seat.

As Margo sat in the oversized walnut booth, a flood of anger and uncertainty washed over her. Universe, God, Beyoncé, Oprah, give me a sign of what I’m supposed to do. I thought I was on the right path, but I don’t know. I just need a sign of what to do next, of where I belong….

About the Author
I’m a feisty redheaded Canadian/American who fell in love with romance novels when my friend Phil bought me a Kindle that hasn’t left my side since. My favorite books to read are anything taboo and super sick and twisted. I’m not sure I will ever write anything dark, but I would love to give it a shot one day.

I live in South Florida with my high school sweetheart and three kids. I grew up in Burlington, ON, Canada but made the move to South Florida in 2013 and definitely don’t miss the snow.

I’m not sure where this writing journey will take me but either way, I know it will be a fun new adventure, and I’m super excited about it.

Guest Post
How I survived writing emotionally dark subject matter

Writing about emotionally dark subject matter is difficult. I cry a lot. I am truly a joyful person, which makes it difficult for people to understand why I write what I do, but that’s why I write. It’s my safe place. I can express emotions and feelings that I don’t typically express elsewhere. I take a lot of breaks and mentally have to wellness check myself every now and then. My husband helps me and when he sees me really pained, he reminds me that I may need to step away for a bit. Many people don’t realize that authors connect as much as they do to their characters because authors usually write what they know, be it emotions, hurt, pain, humor, love, etc.

For me, being happy doesn’t mean I don’t understand deep pain. I am an emotionally charged, hyperactive person; understanding the pitfalls on dwelling on dark emotions is critical for me. So is writing. Writing is my outlet; my process. I never thought to publish until my daughter found one of my manuscripts and pushed me to do so. All I knew was I loved to write. It is so much my passion I have helped others publish their own works through the years.

A few reviews mention that I talk about too many types of dark issues within one book and they think I should focus on one at a time; however only having one issue at a time, well to be honest, that isn’t real life to me. I am writing to express that. None of us have just one problem or have others in our lives without problems of their own. Truth of it is we have to navigate our own as well as those around us in order to have compassion and live together. Rejection, abuse, neglect, and sorrow are things we all share. So are acceptance, love, consideration, and joy. I think sharing our own pain and stories of overcoming crisis is the main key that helps others start the healing process.

While my novels are fiction, they are all based on real emotion and experiences, which hurt to write about, but also is cleansing. Cathartic.

So, for me, I don’t think I would survive without writing about emotionally dark matter.

THE PRINCESS PROBLEM (Unexpectedly Royal #1) by Christi Barth

4 out of 5 stars

Synopsis
What girl doesn’t want to wear a tiara? Me. The one who lives in yoga pants and knows she’s not special enough to be a princess.

One minute I’m starting my dream life in NYC, and the next, a man too hot for his own good is banging on my door, telling me that I’m a long lost princess of a country on the other side of the Atlantic.

Not exactly your typical Friday night in the Big Apple.

Suddenly, all of my plans for the future are yanked away. I’m trapped in a life filled with social obligations—and stilettos!—and an uptight royal family I didn’t know existed. They, and the whole rest of the freaking country, have lofty expectations I’m not sure I can meet.

At least the aforementioned sexalicious man, Elias, is my constant shadow, protecting me with his life. The whole situation is overwhelming. So I’ve secretly put him in charge of my happiness, too…and he’s taking my orders very, very seriously.

So seriously, I’m falling for him even harder than the new country I’m coming to…maybe…love.

And that’s a major problem, because he’s crazy about me, too. I may not know all the zillion rules about being royal, but I know one for sure: No way can a princess date her bodyguard…

Each book in the Unexpectedly Royal series is STANDALONE:
* The Princess Problem
* Ruling the Princess

My Review
Kelsey and her big sister Mallory have just moved to the Big Apple, NYC, Manhattan, and are ready to live the dream they’ve been planning and saving up for for nearly a decade. After finally moving into their tiny apartment, they begin to unpack and dive into life in the big city at full steam when a knock on the door changes everything. Kelsey’s world is upended when she’s told she’s the long-lost daughter of the king of a small country nestled near the Italian coastline. A country she’s never heard of. They tell her she was kidnapped as an infant, something that makes no sense to Kelsey, who grew up in a very decidedly middle class family that was perfectly average in every way. She never had even a hint that she was a) adopted or b) kidnapped. None of it makes any sense to her or Mallory. And the fact that she can’t reach her parents, only makes matters worse when government officials from Moncriano want her to return to her home country. Elias, her self-described body guard is as hot as he is foreign, only muddying the waters further.

Kelsey not only needs to navigate royal life, bond with a family she’s never known, come to terms with her past, but also decide in two weeks if she’s ready to embrace her true identity and give up the only way of life she’s ever known. Yeah, no pressure there.

Plot
Kelsey must embrace her true roots or not. That’s the heart of the story. But the romance with Elias is a strong subplot. Her journey throws a lot of obstacles in her way, not the least of which is getting to know her royal family. With her birth mother having already died, her father, the king, is struggling with embracing the daughter he believed gone forever. She has a brother for the first time ever, but also an older sister who seems to hate her. The fact that Elias is her subject as well as her employee makes any relationship completely off limits. Which of course only makes the sparks fly hotter.

My biggest problem with this book is that Kelsey seems to take it all in stride. The fact that she’s willing to just go with the hot stranger without verifying anything for herself, that she’s not more distraught over her past and secrets withheld from her, ate away at me at a low level as she meets her “real” family. She mentions a few times in passing that her parents weren’t kidnappers, but this should have been driving some serious low-level angst in everything she does. Instead, less than 20% in, she’s snogging her security detail in the garden instead of having an identity crisis of epic proportions. But if you can overlook this for the sake of convenience, it’s a lighthearted take on what it’s like to be unexpectedly thrust into royal life, like a grown-up THE PRINCESS DIARIES. It’s definitely a fun, fast read.

Characters
The characters aren’t terribly deep, but they are fun, and not stereotypical. Kelsey is delightful as the reluctant royal and her sister, Mallory, is hysterical as her partner in crime. I love Kelsey’s loyalty to Mallory as well as her sense of duty to both her families. Elias is honor-bound and full of principle. Princess Genevieve is so relatable as the older sister whose entire life has been shaped by Kelsey’s kidnapping and is struggling with yet the latest upheaval in her relatively short life. Prince Christian is adorable as the loving older brother who has no idea how to interact with his youngest sister. I was totally pulling for a Christian/Mallory side romance. The rest of the characters are there to provide humor and conflict and do their jobs well. There really isn’t a whole lot for any of them to overcome on a deep level, leaving this more plot-based than character-based and that’s perfect for a romantic comedy.

What I Enjoyed About THE PRINCESS PROBLEM
1. Royalty.
Sure, Americans don’t have our own royalty, in fact if anything we’re anti-royal since our whole country was founded on bucking the monarchy, but it’s still fun to get a behind-the-scenes reminder of why being a princess would suck on almost every level.

2. Elias. Not only is he yummy to look at, but his sense of duty and honor makes him nearly irresistible.

3. Christian. He walks a fine line between the duties of heir to the throne and that of an adoring older brother with class, humor, and intense hotness.

4. Mallory. Kelsey is her sister. She always has been and she always will be, regardless of Kelsey’s royal status. I love how nothing changes for her when it comes to her little sister.

5. Politics. I’ll admit, I didn’t really expect that in this story, but it plays into everything, although with a light touch by the author. It adds intrigue that would otherwise be missing.

Bottom Line
A super fun, lighthearted royal romance.

Excerpt
“Well, Mav.” I’m trying to annoy him, but secretly I like the idea that it’s something only I call him. Maverick. It suits him. “I made us a schedule, actually.” My voice has more uncertainty in it than I was hoping. I hand him the carefully thought-out schedule I crafted over the past few months.

“Of course you made a schedule,” he quips with a smirk. His smile only grows as he reads. “You made us a sex syllabus, a sex-abus.”

I groan. He continues undaunted.

“Four weeks, four topics. Looks like we round a base a week. This week’s kissing. Next week is touching, groping, fondling. Then, oral. Giving and receiving. Last week we hit a few home runs,” he offers.

Sex with Austin.

I get lost in my thoughts of what these next four weeks are going to be like. My body flushes and I cross my legs, fighting the building warmth between my thighs. It’s not like I haven’t pictured all this before, but now I’m starting to realize it’s actually going to happen.

You are going to lose your virginity to Austin Jacobs!

“You seriously think we need a whole week dedicated to kissing?” he challenges.

“It’s important to build foundational knowledge in a new subject before advancing to more challenging material.”

Oh my God, you’re such a nerd.

“Come here.” He saunters around the kitchen island and I stand up to meet him. He steps right into my body. I start to lean back, but he grabs my hands and puts them around his neck. The gesture highlights our height difference. I can barely reach without him having to bend down.

His fingers slide over the delicate skin of my forearms and down my sides, causing an effervescent tingle across my whole body. He wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me into him firmly. I’m so small in his embrace. It makes me feel dainty and weirdly feminine.

“Kiss me,” he demands.

“Now?” I swallow roughly.

“Now would be good.”

I don’t do anything.

I just stand there.

Kiss him!

Just do it!

He’s right here and he is asking you to do it!

My heart races, my stomach flutters. My throat gets tight. My mouth goes dry. I spiral into panic. Those beautiful blue eyes are bearing down on me expectantly, burning into me. I close my eyes, count to three in my head, and do it. I push forward on my tiptoes and quickly peck him on the lips. Peck is a generous term for the limp-lipped travesty that is my first attempt at a kiss.

“There,” I declare in placid triumph.

“Damn, I must be a horrible teacher. Is that what I showed you last night?” he says in mock disappointment.

I look down at his chest and shake my head, feeling like a kid who got caught sneaking candy before dinner.

“How did I kiss you last night?” It isn’t a rhetorical question. He wants me to answer.

“Deep,” I say without thinking. “A-And long,” I add with a shaky breath and a blush. That’s the only way to describe his kiss. Other than being simply amazing.

“Hey.” He lifts my chin up so our eyes meet again. “I know you’re nervous, but you shouldn’t be. This isn’t a big deal. I know you can do this.” Great, now Austin’s giving me a pep talk. Hello, Self-esteem. I’d like you to meet All Time Low. This is a whole new level of embarrassing.

Closing my eyes, I try to think back to his kiss last night. I take a deep breath and this time I pull him down to me. He leans down easily. I run through the checklist I made last night. I brush my lips gently across his as I tilt my head to the side. I place my lips on his, teasing his bottom lip with my tongue lightly.

“Open your lips,” I whisper against him.

“Yes, boss,” he quips. I stifle an annoyed sigh and slide my tongue into his mouth. He lets out a soft moan as his hands slide down to my butt.

Holy shit! You just made Austin Jacobs moan!

About the Author
Amelia Kingston is many things, the most interesting of which are probably California girl, writer, traveler, and dog mom. She survives on chocolate, coffee, wine, and sarcasm. Not necessarily in that order.

She’s been blessed with a patient husband who’s embraced her nomad ways and traveled with her to over 30 countries across 5 continents (I’m coming for you next, Antarctica!). She’s also been cursed with an impatient (although admittedly adorable) terrier who pouts when her dinner is 5 minutes late.

She writes about strong, stubborn, flawed women and the men who can’t help but love them. Her irreverent books aim to be silly and fun with the occasional storm cloud to remind us to appreciate the sunny days. As a hopeless romantic, her favorite stories are the ones that remind us all that while love is rarely perfect, it’s always worth chasing.
